Guide to Restaurants in Orchard Singapore

Wild Honey Mandarin Gallery

Dining in Orchard road has always been a headache. Being a food blogger, all my friends always ask me for suggestions on where to eat in Orchard. It really gets boring to eat in the same few restaurants all the time since the Singapore food scene is dominated by a few big holding companies who have presence in almost all the Singapore Orchard Shopping Malls.

Needless to say, there’s no love between me and the restaurants in Orchard. But the problem is, all of us go to orchard all the time, and the central location is an ideal place for friends to meet up.

I know the title of this post: Guide to Restaurants in Orchard road Singapore is kind of misleading since it isn’t a complete guide to all the Singapore Orchard Restaurants. But I will like to share a list of some of the places that I go to when dining in Orchard road.

Aston Specialties

Everybody knows Aston Specialties for their value western food and steak, just be prepared to queue during the peak hours.

Burger Bench & Bar

Craving for burgers but do not want McDonald or Burger King? Try Burger Bench & Bar by Chef Willin Low of Wild Rocket and Relish Restaurant fame.

Canele Patisserie

Canele Patisserie

Canele Patisserie which is one of my favorite dessert places in Singapore, serves affordable main courses like sandwiches and pasta in addition to their pretty dessert creations. There’s two cafe in Orchard road, one at Shaw Centre and the other at Paragon Shopping Mall.

1 Scotts road
#01-01A Shaw Centre
Tel: +65 6738 9020

Everything with Fries

Even though I am not a big fan of Everything with Fries, they are affordable and serve pretty decent Western food. Now that there’s a new Everything with Fries at Orchard Central, I’m sure this will be a popular spot for a quick dinner.

181 Orchard Road #01-24/25
Orchard Central Singapore
Tel: +65 6634 8358

All Day Brunch

KPO Cafe & Bar

Having been to KPO Cafe & Bar at Killiney road (opposite Orchard Central) twice, I feel that they are more like a cool watering hole for drinks after work, rather than a full-fledged cafe. Have your dinner elsewhere, and go there for drinks and finger food. If you are craving for eggs benedict and pancake during dinner, you will be pleased to know that they have an all day brunch menu.

1 Killiney road
Killney Post Office
Tel: +65 6733 3648

Marmalade Pantry

When Marmalade Pantry was previously located at the chi-chi palais renaissance, they have built up a reputation as a cafe where tai-tais (rich ladies) spend their leisure afternoon over some pastries and a pot of tea. Having moved to Ion Orchard, Marmalade Pantry still remains as one of the popular places to enjoy your afternoon high tea.

2 Orchard Turn #03-22
ION Orchard Singapore
Tel: +65 6734 2700

Oomphatico

All of us should eat whatever we want to, because life is already very tough. If we don’t even have the power to satisfy our cravings, I think we will be sad forever. All of us should have fun, and the ambiance at Oomphatico Cafe Tanglin Mall is all about having fun. The whimsical decorations and furniture always make me feel that I’m Alice, in wonderland.

163 Tanglin Road
#01-35 Tanglin Mall
Tel: +65 6733 9088

Ootoya Japanese Restaurant

One of these days, I’m gonna get myself to Ootoya at Orchard Central. Watch this space.

Oriole Cafe Singapore

Oriole Cafe

Whenever someone ask me for recommendations on what to eat in Orchard road, Oriole Cafe always come to mind. Good coffee, nice chill out ambiance, reasonable prices, and good cafe food. They are definitely one of the restaurants in Orchard that I always hang out at.

If you are craving for German food, there’s Brotzeit German restaurant at 313 @ Somserset which is located just directly opposite Oriole Cafe.

96 Somerset road
#01-01 Pan Pacific Serviced Suites
Tel: +65 6238 8348

Raindrops Cafe

Raindrops Cafe

This is a new cafe at Scape Singapore that serves comfort food at pretty affordable prices. Looking for a nice and cozy cafe in Orchard? Raindrops Cafe is the place for you.

2 Orchard Link #02-38
*Scape Singapore

Taste Paradise

Among the dim sum restaurants in Singapore, Taste Paradise is one of the restaurants in Ion Orchard that I always frequent. Try their custard buns and char siew sou, and you will understand why.

2 Orchard Turn
#04-07 ION Orchard
Tel: +65 6509 9660

Tetsu Japanese Restaurant

I’m quite sure a number of you have not been to Tanglin Mall for a long time because it’s out-of-the-way. But I like the off-the-track location because it’s just a few minutes away from the center of Orchard road. If you are thinking of going there for dinner, there’s actually quite a few good Tanglin Mall Restaurants to choose from. With the opening of Nandos and Chili’s restaurant, Tanglin Mall is certainly getting the attention from diners.

Okay, I digress. Tetsu at Tanglin Mall has always been one of my favorite Japanese restaurant in Singapore. The set lunches are quite affordable and I like the tonkatsu there.

163 Tanglin road
#03-18 Tanglin Mall
Tel: +65 6836 3112

Watami Sushi

Watami Japanese Restaurant

For exactly the same reason, Watami is another popular Japanese restaurant in Ion Orchard that I go to frequently. Otherwise, I will probably head to Tampopo Japanese restaurant at Takashimaya for some kick-ass tonkatsu ramen.

2 Orchard Turn
#B3-23 ION Orchard
Tel: +65 6509 9366

Wild Honey

Here’s the update: I finally went to Wild Honey recently! There was a hype when the breakfast restaurant first opened, and I wanted to wait a while for it to sort out the teething problems before I check out their all day breakfast menu. Is Wild Honey at Mandarin Gallery one of the better brunch places in Singapore? Come back tomorrow for my post on their brunch.

333A Orchard Road #03-02

Yan Ting Restaurant

The-best-dim-sum-in-Singapore. Don’t question, just go.

I hope this list of restaurants in Orchard road Singapore will be useful when you are dining in town. But hey you know, there are actually quite a few nice food places outside the Orchard vicinity. Even if you are not driving, it’s probably just 10 minutes to catch a bus to the Dempsey road restaurants, or 15 minutes to get to Holland Village and Chips Bee Garden.

I wanted to be selfish not to share this place but I thought they deserve better publicity – how abt trying Heaven’s Loft at Orchard Central for their weekend brunch. Simple, non-pretentious and afforable. It is tucked in a corner of this mall and a gd way to spend a lazy afternoon:)

having recently spent 4 weeks living in orchard road, i can also highly recommend wild honey (i queue there every weekend!) – other favourites include bedrock for excellent steak (though pricey), the pizzas at modestos are not bad.

i am dying to try nuoc, the vietnamese at mandarin gallery – has anyone been?

Re: Everything with Fries – if you’re going to put the word “fries” in your name, you sure better serve some good ones. In their case, the gimmicky name backfires, big time.

OH, I didn’t know it was a fast food outlet until I went to their website and only saw 2 outlets! I called them up, then they told me @Orchard Central only have food that doesn’t require fork/knife to eat which = burgers. Haha.

Hi! I randomly found yr website while i was searching for cafes online and wonder if i cld ask for yr advice! Have a birthday gathering to organise n wld like a nice cosy place with a natural feel where I can host about 30 plus comfortably and present a powerpoint, share some jokes with an emcee over a western dinner. Can’t seem to find a place. Wld require a private room or at least booking the whole place? Wld appreciate it lots! Thank you!

You missed out Imperial Treasure on level 5, Takashimaya! They serve fantastic dim sum and milk tea that’s the closest match to Hong Kong’s… My favorite dessert will be their sesame red bean paste pastry <3
