EIGHT SPICES ROASTED WHOLE TURKEY

A must-have at any Christmas table is a Roasted Whole Turkey. Edge’s turkey has been marinated and seasoned with eight different spices. Each layer of flavour from the spices will meld together in perfect harmony as you sink your teeth into each piece of succulent meat.

The tender turkey meat pairs well with oven-roasted vegetables – a blend of smoky spices and a mild sweetness melded with a charred flavour.

PINEAPPLE & CLOVE GLAZED BONE-IN GAMMON HAM

Another Christmas must-have would definitely be glazed ham. It’s great for sharing and it’s ultra-delicious and has the ability to whet anybody’s appetites. There’s just something about this sweet-and-savoury pairing that makes people happy.

Edge’s Pineapple & Clove Glazed Bone-In Gammon Ham ticks all of the above boxes. The pineapple and clove glaze lends the smoky ham a complex flavour – a blend of sweetness, spice and with a slight tang. This holiday roast will have you craving seconds (and thirds)!

OVEN-ROASTED GARLIC MUSTARD & ROSEMARY ANGUS PRIME BEEF

If you’re a meat-lover and can’t resist a mouth-wateringly good roast beef, look out for Edge’s Oven-Roasted Garlic Mustard & Rosemary Angus Prime Beef. Served with a thick gravy, these perfectly-cooked beef slices will be your new favourite festive dish.

The Angus Prime Beef was served slightly rare with a well-marbled middle. We loved how the beef was so tender and juicy – each bite bursting with flavours from the rosemary and garlic mustard. Pair it with some roasted veggies and you’ll be rubbing your bellies in satisfaction.

CHARCOAL CRUST ROAST GAMMON HAM PIZZA

Pizza fans rejoice! You will be getting the best of both worlds with Edge’s Charcoal Crust Roast Gammon Ham Pizza — they have spun their own festive twist to the usual pizza by adding in Gammon Ham, one of their festive Christmas treats.

We loved how the cheese and gammon ham go so well with each other while the arugula topping gives that peppery hint!

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

The waffle had a buttery aroma, and was crispy on the outside and airy in the middle. Ice cream wise, we chose the Belgium Chocolate and it boasted a creamy and rich texture. It had just the right amount of sweetness, with a luscious, chocolatey taste.

The Durian gelato was super fragrant and rich. It had a velvety texture, although we thought it resembled a thick durian paste instead of ice cream! It was not overly cloying either, but decadent in flavour.

You’re definitely in for a treat when you visit Everton Creamery! This is a great spot to chill with your friends or co-workers after a long day, so do drop by and give them a try.

Since 2019 is about to come to a closure, it seems fitting for us to grieve over our losses of acclaimed eateries that have sadly departed our local shores — including those that are about to roll down their shutters for good.

Given Singapore’s competitive F&B industry with high rental fees and ever-changing consumer tastes, it is no wonder many chains have gradually lost their appeal. Though we have witnessed the rise, then fall, of well-loved establishments, rest assured there will be new, upcoming ones that are sure to take Singapore’s market by storm again!

So, brace yourself for a rollercoaster of emotions, as we announce 11 iconic eateries that we bid sayonara to this year.

#1 PABLO CHEESE TART

When Pablo Cheese Tart first opened at Wisma Atria back in 2017, we remember seeing snaking queues along its storefront; everyone wanted a piece of that coveted cheese tart. Despite major fanfare, they ceased operations in March 2019 after 19 months.

Pablo fans can still look forward to their gooey, fluffy tarts at their overseas outlets: Japan, Indonesia, Taiwan, Vietnam, Canada and Philippines.

#2 GUDETAMA CAFE

Despite opening to much hype three years ago, Gudetama Café has ended their contract with Sanrio Co., and will be shutting doors on 17 November 2019.

However, fans have one last chance before they wave goodbye to this languid egg. From 10 October to 17 November, Gudetama Café will be having a special discount on their egg-citing menu and merchandise.

#3 MY MELODY CAFE

Opened in 2018, My Melody Café is conveniently located right beside Gudetama Café in Suntec City. Just like the egg-themed establishment, My Melody Café is set to close on 17 November 2019, and will be offering discounted prices on their food and merchandise from 10 October onwards.

Sanrio-themed cafés have really taken a blow in Singapore; perhaps kawaii culture is not a hit with the locals here. We will be sad to see the hooded bunny go!

#4 BAKE CHEESE TART

Hailing from Hokkaido, BAKE Cheese Tart took the nation by storm with its cheesy goodness. Their other outlets have shut down, with remaining flagship store at Ion Orchard set to close at the end of October this year.

We will definitely miss this Japanese tart for many months to come, though this is not the end of their journey. BAKE Cheese Tart is opening sister store Croquant Chou ZakuZaku, which will occupy BAKE’s former space!

Hello Kitty Orchid Garden was the first 24/7 Hello Kitty café to set up shop in Singapore! Well received by Hello Kitty and Dear Daniel fans, everyone was eager to try out their themed, Instagrammable goodies.

Yet, another one bites the dust, as we soon said our goodbyes to this well-loved feline paradise back on 8 February 2019.

#6 JPOT

Famed for their Singapore-style hotpot, Jpot is one hotpot chain we will never forget. Their signature soup broths, such as their Fish Head Soup and Jpot Superior Broth Soup, were so iconic, they remain undefeated as one of Singapore’s best hotpots!

They too, have closed down all their outlets. Their last outlet at Tampines 1 ceased operations on 16 June 2019.

We are all familiar with Non Entrée Desserts, a café specialising in innovative, local savoury-looking desserts. During the four years they have been here, they have greatly inspired our café scene.

Sadly, they have decided to shut down the business, and their last day is on 20 October 2019. Do drop by the café and try out their desserts one last time — we promise you won’t forget it.

This iconic, elevated restaurant and bar has been an al fresco dining venue for many couples, best known for its scenic views and atas food. Despite being a successful eatery, Gardens by the Bay did not renew IndoChine’s lease.

IndoChine Supertree has closed its doors end of April this year and converted to an observatory deck. Thankfully, diners can still visit their CHIJMES outlet!

Esteemed among locals for serving homely Australian cuisine and coffee for over 20 years, many Dome Café regulars were sad to see them leave. They were even one of the first few cafes serving specialty coffee!

While Dim Sum may be a traditional staple that you would find all around Hong Kong, it is not a form of cuisine that we are short of in Singapore.

Nestled in quiet Simpang Bedok is Enak Enak Hong Kong Tea House, a halal dim sum tea restaurant in Singapore which offers a variety of affordable halal dim sum.

On our visit, we started off with their popular Steamed Golden Sand Bun (S$3.10 for 2pcs), Har Kow (S$4.20 for 3pcs) and Siew Mai (S$3.80 for 3pcs).

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

Though it did look larger than usual, the Siew Mai had a generous amount of meat filling which was nicely wrapped in the wonton skin that was reminiscent of its original counterpart. While it tasted good on its own, the dipping sauce definitely made it tastier.

The Har Kow, unfortunately, didn’t impress us as much as we thought it would. Although the filling inside was good, the skin was much too thick, adding an overall starchiness to the dumpling.

We were quite disappointed with the Steamed Golden Sand Bun as well. While the salted egg yolk custard lava did present an enticing sight, the taste wasn’t as satisfying. Instead of the savoury gooey filling, we tasted a sweeter and slightly grainy custard which made the buns an overall letdown.

In addition, we also tried the BBQ Chicken Pau (S$2.60 for 2pcs), Steamed Rice Roll with Shrimps (S$4.20), and Pan Fried Carrot Cake (S$2.60 for 2pcs).

Perhaps our least favourite dish of the lot, the Steamed Rice Roll with Shrimps fell flat in terms of taste. Not only did the rice roll taste bland and break apart easily, the dish didn’t seem to have much shrimp.

We tried to add a little bit of flavour to alleviate the blandness with the chilli, but it only offered a slight improvement.

Despite the hits and misses, we felt that the saving grace of the entire meal was the Pan Fried Carrot Cake. Unlike the traditional ones that you might have seen, their carrot cake had a crispy golden outer layer which complemented the soft and chewy texture within.

While the dim sum here didn’t exactly appeal to us, Enak Enak Hong Kong Tea House kept its dim sum prices affordably and they are open until late.

Other than Simpung Bedok, Enak Enak Hong Kong Tea House also has another outlet at East Coast Parkway.

A new addition to the trove of cafés and restaurants nearby the Botanic Gardens is Elixir Boutique Roasters. This bean-to-bar café doesn’t reveal its exact location in Serene Centre and encourages you to hunt them down instead. But lucky for you, we’ve hunted it down for you!

Located at the street level of Serene Centre, the café is so nondescript—dimly lit and no signboard—you’ll probably miss it if you’re weren’t looking for it. Elixir Boutique Roasters takes over the premise of Sugarhaus and shares the same space as Fat Belly which operates at night. Still in their opening phase, coffees here are currently pay as you wish.

The Single Origin Guatemalan White (3oz) was an enjoyable cuppa to start off our day. Well-bodied a gentle acidity, it had a pleasant mouthfeel with some fruity notes.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

We ordered both their signature dishes—their Signature Ebi Tsukemen (S$17.90) and their Shio Chicken Ramen (S$15.90).

Their Signature Ebi Tsukemen was served with a mix of fresh salad leaves, tomatoes, sweet potatoes cubes, a slice of baguette and a thick slice of Chashao.

They use over 15 ingredients—all of which are on display on their wall mural—in just their shrimp based dipping sauce and broth alone. The result is reminiscent of both mee rebus and lobster bisque.

To be completely honest, in spite of the hype of the sauce itself being intensely flavoured with shrimp and other seafood items, our taste buds felt differently. Granted that the sauce was rich (as it’s meant to be), the flavours of prawn did not really come through as prominently as we would have liked.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

BREAD THAT’S ALL-NATURAL

Enjoué Bakery works with numerous high-end restaurants and F&B brands across the country with notable names including the likes of Black Hole Group—the ones behind Working Title, The Mad Sailors, The Great Mischief & Santap—Bayswater Kitchen by Privé, Redtail by Zouk, Burgernomics and more.

The secret behind their bakes lies in organic flour and their starter dough, which for the uninitiated, is what many bakers rely on to make incredible naturally leavened bread. It is a fermented substance that consists of flour, water, salt and a lot of patience and is what’s responsible for kickstarting the fermentation process necessary for preparing tasty bread.

No preservatives, unnatural ingredients, or artificial enhancers and food colourings are used in any of their bakery offerings. Granted that the average shelf life of their products is shortened without preservatives, what you can expect is a much healthier (and tastier) option to regular store-bought bread.

You can look forward to classic breads including rye, pain aux céréales, Flaxseed Rye as well as gluten-free breads which are diabetic friendly and low in GI.

Enjoué Bakery prides themselves with using their own house-cultivated starter dough that has been with them for several years now.

Bread made from natural sourdough starter has a distinctive aroma and subtle sour tinge at the end of the palate. The result of using a start dough instead of conventional yeast? A much chewier, crustier and more flavourful loaf—perfect as a meal-time accompaniment or even as a snack on its own.

Besides artisanal sourdough and rye bread, they also specialise in a wide array of sweet buns. We particularly like their Apple Cinnamon Brioche that boasts a sugary glazed apple atop a sweet, buttery brioche.

ARTISANAL TARTS & CAKES

A great accompaniment to an afternoon tea or coffee and an irresistible treat for those with a sweet tooth, Enjoué’s range of sweet bakes are sure to delight the palate as well.

From luscious tarts to decadent cakes, their premium flavours are highly profiled and guaranteed to hit the right spot. Who needs a fancy patisserie when you can get just as indulgent a treat from this humble bakery?

HOME-MADE GOURMET SANDWICHES

A sandwich is only as good as the bread that holds everything together, which makes us all the more thankful that Enjoué Bakery also makes their own sandwiches. Perfect as a quick and hassle-free meal on-the-go, their gourmet sandwiches come packed with quality meat fillings and an abundance of fresh greens.

These gourmet sandwiches are available in Cold Storage at One-North (1 Fusionpolis Way #B2-03 Cold Storage @ One-North). Other than the gourmet sandwiches, the One-North outlet also has a selection of breads and viennoiseries.

VIENNOISERIES TO-DIE-FOR

For the love of all things flaky, buttery and golden, there are few things in the spectrum of artisanal bakes that can beat a good viennoiserie pastry. From the puff pastry itself that requires the careful manipulation of technique and time by a master baker to the filling that can neither be too profoundly flavoured nor excessively added, the work that goes into making just one is painstaking.

Their viennoiserie pastries are all hand rolled daily, using only French sheet butter which has a higher butter content, resulting in a unique flakiness, and just like all their bakery offerings, no preservatives, unnatural ingredients, or artificial food colourings are used.

Enjoué undoubtedly takes the cake (or in this case, bake) when it comes to croissants. Buttery and crunchy with a lovely hint of sweetness, these bad boys are a surefire way to put you in the right mood in the morning.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

Earlybird Café is just a stone’s throw away from Bugis MRT station and it is difficult to miss the brightly-lit ‘earlybird’ signage.

The café is currently still in its soft-launch phase so their food menu is quite limited, although they have a wide range of beverages to offer including coffee by Allpress Espresso, cold-pressed juices, smoothies and milkshakes.

Forget about chicken and waffles, Chicken and Pancakes (S$19) is the way to go when you are at Earlybird Café. It was extremely well-executed and it is a must to order.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

The tender and juicy fried chicken was well-coated with a light and crispy batter and we loved how the fried chicken was not overly greasy. What truly impressed us was the stack of house-made buttermilk pancakes that sat beneath the fried chicken; they came with a pleasant melt-on-your-tongue texture. The magic happens when you have the chicken and the pancakes together with the chilli maple sauce.

Featuring 3 huge pieces of fried chicken atop 2 fluffy pancakes, it can be pretty filling if you are a small eater. One thing is for sure—this is one ineffable serving of Chicken and Pancakes we would come back for.

One of the two options that Earlybird Café currently offers for pasta is the Tom Yum Prawn Pasta (S$20), which is essentially linguine tossed in Thai-style tom yum gravy topped with prawns.

We felt that the tomato sauce overpowered the tom yum flavour of the dish.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

Earlybird Café also has a range of desserts to love. We opted for the Flower Pot Tiramisu (S$8.50) and it is definitely one dessert that will charm you not just with the looks of it. The smooth cream went well with the sponge fingers and the hint of alcohol gave it a luxurious touch.

Other options for desserts would be Earlybird Café’s rendition of hotcakes, including Hotcake Bling (S$18), Coco Espresso (S$18) and Going Bananas (S$17).

Izakaya bars are all the rage now, especially among the office crowd and En Dining (previously known as En Sakaba) under the Izakaya Japanese Dining Group (which manages En Japanese Dining at Mohd Sultan, En Japanese Dining Bar at Bukit Timah and Z’en Japanese Cuisine) is not a name unheard of.

Now with a total of 4 new outlets—each boasting different concepts—this izakaya slash Japanese restaurant group is a true haven for those in search of tantalising Japanese fare, a chic yet cosy spot to relax at and a solid tipple.

Introducing its new flagship restaurant and the group’s fourth outlet, En Dining at Capital Tower is set to enthrall with their stellar shabu shabu offering, visually stunning à la carte items as well as a selection of curated Japanese whiskies and sake for your after-work tippling pleasure.

For a limited period and exclusive only at Capital Tower, En Dining is having a hot pot buffet dinner that comes with a selection of appetisers, 3 kinds sashimi platter, wagyu sushi, prawn and vegetables tempura, Häagen-Dazs ice cream as well as a monumental shabu shabu that sees unlimited servings of Japan’s No. 1 of Miyazaki wagyu beef, premium zuwai kani queen crab, ibérico kurobuta pork, assorted vegetables, udon and Japanese porridge—all at only S$78++ per pax (U.P. S$108++ per pax).

We kid you not, from the sweet flesh of the queen crab to the perfectly marbled, melt-in-your-mouth Miyazaki Wagyu, this is a shabu shabu feast that you must try and you’d be a fool if you missed it.

If your idea of a Japanese izakaya is a shabby, small and dimly lit hut then En Dining’s flagship will change that perception. The interior is decked out in beautiful furnishings that screams chic and cosy.

We especially adore the bar counter that allows diners to peek into the open kitchen, as well as the wide selection of premium Japanese spirits and sakes on display.

APPETISER, SASHIMI, TEMPURA

The buffet commences with an assortment of 3 different appetisers, each with different textures and flavours, yet sharing an element of freshness that no doubt will help to ease diners into the heavier courses.

Their sashimi platter comes with 3 varieties of seasonal fish and seafood, cut thick and gorgeously presented while the tempura platter consists of ebi (prawn) and a variety of vegetables—all deep-fried to crispy and golden perfection.

Considering that the buffet commences with these 3 stellar items, what follows may prove a tad too hard to resist. Period.

JAPAN’S NO.1 MIYAZAKI WAGYU SUSHI

To fully experience the natural taste of Wagyu, the buffet comes with a serving of Wagyu Sushi. Served raw atop sushi rice and garnished with freshly diced scallions, each mouthful promises a delicious flavour punch of pure beefy goodness that runs off your tongue almost like butter.

JAPAN’S NO.1 MIYAZAKI WAGYU (UNLIMITED SERVINGS)

Nobody leaves En Dining without having some A5 Miyazaki Wagyu Beef and this was love at first sight for us. From top-notch farms in Japan to the waiting mouths of hungry patrons, En Dining’s elite offering—premium Miyazaki Wagyu beef—is one that promises sheer, melt-in-your-mouth decadence in every bite.

An order of their prized Miyazaki Wagyu sees a platter of elegantly laid out slices of perfectly marbled beef, pleasing not only to the tongue but also to the mind and eye. Whether you deem yourself a wagyu connoisseur or not, a sight like this is the pinnacle of gourmet.

Our suggestion is to not overcook it. Simply simmer your beef for a few seconds and bring it to a pinkish-brown shade, remove it, and dip it generously in ponzu to bring out the best of the fatty beef.

A good point to note about the restaurant’s prized Miyazaki Wagyu is that it has won various prestigious industry awards, including the most honoured ‘Prime Minister Award’ by the Wagyu Registry Association in Japan for its outstanding meat quality.

Given to the best cattle once every five years, this award has been won by Miyazaki Wagyu for 3 consecutive contests, meaning it has held the reigns for 15 years and has been labelled ‘Japan’s Number One Beef’ ever since!

In terms of marbling, firmness, texture and sheer lustre of the fat within the wagyu, this is easily one of the best things you can ever put into your mouth.

IBÉRICO KUROBUTA PORK (UNLIMITED SERVINGS)

The Miyazaki Wagyu may be a showstopper in its own right but following close behind is the Ibérico Kurobuta Pork. Also available in unlimited portions, this gorgeous pork variety boasts a delicate, nutty flavour with melt-in-your-mouth marbling.

ZUWAI QUEEN CRAB (UNLIMITED SERVINGS)

Yet another highlight of this shabu shabu buffet is the unlimited servings of premium Zuwai Kani Queen Crab.

Sweeter in comparison to its male counterpart, the Zuwai Queen Crab is deemed by the chefs here a better choice for Japanese shabu shabu as it adds a heightened sweetness to the overall soup broth. The delicate flesh of the crab is insanely sweet and produces a lovely aroma when allowed to cook gently in the Bonito broth.

MIYAZAKI WAGYU SPECIALITIES

Besides shabu shabu, En Dining also prepares their highly prized Miyazaki wagyu in a number of ways (and in various cuts too) to allow diners to fully appreciate the premium quality beef at its best—namely in the form of sushi, sashimi, carpaccio and more!

A dish that beautifully enhances the wagyu and brings out the most of its beefy potential is the Wagyu With Quail Egg. Sliced into thin strips and topped with a quail egg yolk, what you get is a simple cold dish that fully allows you to savour every morsel of flavour.

Serving sizes may be a tad small but believe us when we say, you probably wouldn’t be able to stomach more than one serving of this given how rich the components are.

These Wagyu Specialties are available at all 4 restaurants—Capital Tower, JEM, Orchard Central and Clarke Quay.

SASHIMI PLATTER

As if all that unlimited servings of decadence are not enough, you will be spoilt with a deluxe platter of sashimi as part of the buffet.

PRAWN AND VEGETABLES TEMPURA

Also included in the buffet is this plate of tempura that comes with prawns and an assortment of vegetables such as eggplant, sweet potato and pumpkin. Each one is coated with a light batter mix and deep-fried to a golden colour and served with a bowl of Tentsuyu dipping sauce.

DESSERT

After all that feasting, you might think of turning down dessert but we all know deep down, there is always room for dessert. End your meal on a sweet note with a creamy and robust matcha ice cream from Häagen-Dazs, topped with whipped cream and a dollop of azuki paste.

With such an exciting line-up, En Dining’s Japan No. 1 Miyazaki Wagyu and Premium Queen Crab Hotpot Buffet is one you cannot miss out on. For a limited period only, indulge in 90 minutes of unlimited servings of premium meats and seasonal delicacies at only S$78++ (usual price S$108) per pax.

A LA CARTE DISHES

Aside from their premium buffet, En Dining’s menu also boasts a range of delectable a la carte dishes such as Wagyu Sushi, Wagyu Tobanyaki, Wagyu Sukiyaki and Wagyu Yukke.

One of our favourites is the Japanese porridge where diners get to enjoy Japanese pearl rice that is stirred into the flavourful dashi broth and allowed to simmer until soft. It is then finished off with the addition of raw eggs which acts as a thickener as well as provides the porridge with a secondary layer of richness and depth.

FESTIVE ROAST DELIGHTS

Be enticed by Edge’s mouth-watering array of roasted and baked delights that are as tantalising as they are stunning to look at.

It isn’t Christmas without some turkey. The Cajun Spiced Roasted Turkey is a well-marinated one with a slightly peppery finish. Cooked to the exact doneness, the skin boasted a crispy, golden hue and the meat was succulent and delicious. For an extra flavour lift, ladle over some gravy or cranberry sauce.

No Christmas dinner would be complete without a luxurious roast lamb, and boy did their Roasted Lamb Leg impress. The ones we had were toasted to utmost perfection, with an exterior of flavourful crust while the interior was still nicely pink and succulent.

The Arabic Marinated Whole Salmon features—like its name suggests—a whole fish that is basted over with herbs and spices. Baked and served whole, the flesh was flaky, tender and oh-so-aromatic.

The Duck Confit with Roast Potatoes is something you have to try, too!

Where do we begin? With such a wide selection ranging from Peranakan, Malay, Chinese, Japanese, Indian, Singaporean and the Pacific region, it is impossible to not find something to love.

In addition to the vast selection of cuisines, the restaurant features seven open concept kitchens, creating a lively atmosphere where you can watch and observe the chefs at work.

Be sure not to skip the Indian food station. We LOVE the massive range of vegetable and meat curries, tandoori meats, bread and even traditional Indian confectioneries—it is our all-time favourite station at Edge.

Oh, there will be a festive pasta station where you can have fresh pasta prepared à la minute too!

From prawns to mussels, lobsters and crabs, you can look forward to the freshest seafood at Edge’s seafood counter.

What we also liked was their selection of condiments which allowed us to experiment with different flavour combinations.

For those of you who crave a more Asian-centric meal, be enticed by their wide variety of hearty delights that span the cuisines of multi-cultural Singapore as well as around the region.

Amongst all the many food stations that have impressed us over the years, the Indian station has got to be our ultimate go-to. Comprising a plethora of curries, chutneys, and tandoori offerings, the spread beautifully encompasses the very best of North-Indian cuisine.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins><ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: block; text-align: center;" data-ad-layout="in-article" data-ad-format="fluid" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="3885138539"></ins><ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: block; text-align: center;" data-ad-layout="in-article" data-ad-format="fluid" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="3885138539"></ins>

The brioche bun provided a nice sweetness which bolded well with the savoury qualities of the meaty beef ragu. The sausage by itself was flavourful, but the beef ragu coupled with the cheese gave the dish a heightened dose of richness and texture.

The Chicken Burger (S$16) is something of a treat that even the most discerning of palates can agree with. Sandwiched between a toasted charcoal bun is a crispy chicken thigh that is given a healthy dose of their homemade buffalo wing sauce and cheddar cheese sauce as well as a refreshing cucumber slaw.

The chicken thigh had a lovely crunch and the marriage between both the spicy buffalo wing sauce and the cheddar cheese sauce was magical, to say the least. The cucumber slaw was a nice touch as well as it gave this heavy dish a refreshing lift. Crispy, spicy and savoury, this hearty burger easily trumps all other chicken burgers out there.

Seeing as to how much diners fell head over heels for these wonderful creations over this past few months, Edge at Pan Pacific Singapore has decided to extend this lunch promotion to 10 November 2017.

From now until 10 November 2017, our readers can continue to quote ‘ladyironchef’ upon making reservations to enjoy this glorious new lunch promotion for two at S$90 nett (actual price: S$122.41) from Mondays to Fridays.

If you enjoyed yourself the first time then here is your chance to return for more of the good stuff. If you haven’t tried, what are you waiting for?

ALASKAN CHILLI CRAB PIZZA

Everton Park is often overlooked as it is surrounded by a couple of other bigger neighbourhoods such as Tanjong Pagar and Duxton Road. The whole vicinity in general, is well-known for a great cafe culture and some of the best bars in Singapore. It comes as no surprise that Everton Park will also be loaded with many great F&B establishments.

Dubbed as a ‘hipster’ neighbourhood, Everton Park houses some lesser known cafes and restaurants that really deserves more recognition. From great coffee to decadent desserts, if you have not ventured to Everton Park before, you might want to make a note to visit after reading about all the great food and drinks you can find here.

Surrounded by both new and old HDB flats and buildings, Everton Park has both a rustic charm and a modern edge to it. Here is our Ultimate Guide to Everton Park’s Restaurants & Cafes for your next cafe hopping adventure or meals!

#3 COZY CORNER COFFEE

As you guessed it, their speciality is coffee and we highly recommend the latte (from S$4.50) for two reasons, it is an excellent blend and secondly, you will be treated to adorable latte art that you can admire (or snap a few photos of).

You can also expect full mains here that range from general cafe fare to heavier options such as pasta. However, our advice is to stick to the coffee and desserts to ensure no misses.

#4 EVERTON CREAMERY

Ice cream party! As you have probably guessed, Everton Creamery’s speciality is ice cream, specifically gelato and sorbets. The wide range of gelato choices here is impressive and guess what? They are all freshly made daily. Think pistachio, matcha, dark chocolate and more flavours at S$4 for a scoop.

For freshly made gelato, the price point is reasonable and you only need to pay S$3 for a second scoop. You can expect fruitier options in sorbet form if you prefer your ice cream less rich and more refreshing.

Cake jars that look almost too good to be eaten. The cake jars at Grin Affair are perfect as gifts as they are all packaged beautifully with a general price range of just S$5.50 per jar.

You can take away the jar, but Grin Affair offers incentives to customers who brings the jars back. The flavours will rotate from time to time but some classic flavours are Banoffee, Kiwi Cheesecake and Honey Lavender.

Kimchi Fried Rice (S$10), Red Chilli Tteokbokki (S$8) and freshly made Gimbap (from S$7) are just some of the tasty things you can expect here. Nothing makes us quite as satisfied as fuss-free and unpretentious fare that sticks to its roots.

It is a cosy spot where guests can spend some time browsing through magazines and enjoy a cup of coffee.

All drinks (both coffee and non-coffee) on Ekkamai Macchiato’s menu are sold at an affordable price of THB100/ S$4.12.

There is nothing too fancy about the cafe and the lukewarm tones from the wooden floor tiles and furniture made us feel more like we were walking into someone’s house rather than a cafe when we first stepped foot into Ekkamai Macchiato.

At the front of the cafe is where you will find their dessert counter and coffee bar, which is decorated with white square tiles. Do not be shy to approach their friendly baristas for any food or drink recommendations.

After taking a look at their THB100 drinks menu, we went for a Hot Matcha Latte (THB100/ S$4.12) which was extremely rich. The strong matcha flavours were balanced out with creamy milk and it came with an inviting layer of foam—what a treat!

Alternatively, you can get an Iced or Blended Matcha Latte if you are craving for a cold drink instead.

Those who simply cannot give up on caffeine can opt for the Hot Cappuccino (THB100/ S$4.12). As with any good cup of Cappuccino, it had the perfect espresso to milk ratio and the drink was topped off with light and airy foam.

Other espresso-based drinks you can get there include Espresso, Americano, Caffe Latte, Caramel Macchiato and more. Most of them are available in Hot and Iced versions.

Workplace stress coupled with a severe lack of rest often results in a degradation our overall health and in turn causes us to fall sick.

It is time to spare a thought for our poor bodies and consider taking measures to boost our immune system and overall wellness. But we are not just talking about any old supplement; we are talking about the unsuspecting superfood—vinegar soaked black beans by Sir Haba.

The vinegar black beans that Sir Haba produces contain several health benefits, and odd as this unlikely pairing may seem, it is actually a very versatile ingredient that you can apply in a variety of dishes.

Here are two easy recipes we came up with that you can incorporate vinegar black beans. The recipes ain’t anything near rocket science so anyone can attempt, we guarantee!

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

Black beans contain a wide variety of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties such as folate, magnesium, manganese, and zinc which are all nutrients associated with the preservation of cardiovascular diseases. Vinegar, on the other hand, acts as a detoxifier and it contains properties that enhance digestion and stimulate appetite.

Combining both of these superfoods optimizes the overall health benefits and nutritional values to the fullest extent, thus gaining two advantages with one single move.

The vinegar also softens the black beans, making them easier to consume, but instead of eating them plain from the jar which is often recommended, you can incorporate them into your everyday meals like what we did.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

5) Remove your steamed sea bass and garnish with a mixture of fresh chopped cilantro, sliced chilis, ginger and spring onions and your healthy fish dish is ready to be enjoyed!

#2 MISO-GLAZED GRILLED PRAWNS WITH VINEGAR BLACK BEAN CRUMB

What You’ll Need:

4 – 6 large prawns
1 tsp of garlic powder

Miso Glaze

3 tbsp Miso paste
3 tbsp melted butter
2 tbsp mirin
1 tsp sugar
1 cup of water

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

Vinegar Black Bean Crumb

4 tbsp vinegar black beans
1 tbsp Miso paste
1 tsp sugar
2 tbsp peanut oil

Garnish

1 spring onion

What To Do:

1) To make the miso glaze, heat up a cup of water in a pan along with your miso paste, mirin, and sugar. Allow the mixture to thicken and once it reaches a saucy consistency, add in a knob of butter. After the butter emulsifies and melts completely, set your glaze aside and allow it to cool.

2) To prepare your prawns like we did (this is optional), simply make an incision through the top of the prawns right down to the tail and push gently to allow the prawns to sit flat. Do not forget to remove the intestines!

3) Lightly rub some oil onto each prawn and season generously with garlic powder. Place your prawns shell-side down onto a smoking hot grill pan and allow it to cook. Do not be tempted to turn the prawns over just yet because what you want is to achieve those perfect grill marks.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>//

We must admit that we had our doubts about vinegar black beans, but after realising just how many benefits a teaspoon of it can give and just how versatile it is as a condiment or main cooking ingredient, we have become converts and now eat it regularly!

If you would like to get your hands on a jar of Sir Haba’s vinegar black beans, you can order yours via Joyous Organic’s main website or ask your local food retailers for more details. It is approximately S$35 per jar and while it may sound like a lot, know that it is a substantial amount and it brings about so many benefits!

You are going to have so much fun experimenting with the recipes. Do share some of your own creations with us, too!
