Palm Beach Seafood Crab Giveaway
February 27, 2010 | 90 Comments

* The Palm Beach Seafood Giveaway is now closed. The winners are Daniel (29), Chloe (18), HahazZ (57), Vivian (37). Thank you for participating, better luck next time! *
“My all time favorite is chili crab with deep-fried mantou, what’s yours?” I asked on twitter.
Everyone replied enthusiastically, the popular choices are pepper crab, chili crab, crab bee hoon, salted egg yoke crab and butter crab. Even though I just had chili crab and double baked cheese crab at Palm Beach Seafood recently, I find myself craving for the thick, sweet-and-spicy gravy of the chili crab, with deep fried mantou of course.
While we are at the topic of crab, I realize people like to debate on which restaurant has the best crab in Singapore. Like what I always say: whichever place you like – has the best crab!
HOW TO ENTER THE PALM BEACH SEAFOOD CRAB GIVEAWAY
I totally understand how it feels to be on your end, looking at all the photos and yet cannot get to taste the food; so I’m happy to announce that Palm Beach Seafood has kindly agreed to giveaway $50 vouchers (no minimum spending required) to 4 lucky readers. If you want a chance to win, here is what to do:
1. Leave a comment on this post
Tell us what’s your favorite crab and why. I’m asking for your favorite style of cooking for the crab, it does not have to be from a particular restaurant. Just tell me what style do you like, and if you happen to like an exotic way of cooking crabs which can be anything for example, Double Baked Cheese Crab, let us know! (***updated***)
And ONE entry per person, you are encouraged to get your friends to join the contest but please play fair and do not post multiple comments under different names.
2. Use a valid & contactable email
Please use a valid & contactable email when you post the comment. I will email the winners shortly after the contest ended, remember to check your email on Monday.
3. And the Four lucky Winners . . .
The four lucky winners will be decided by a highly sophisticated method, and I reserve the right to re-pick if there’s any discrepancy or foul-play involved. I know there are folks from the States, Malaysia, Australia, and other countries reading my blog, but unfortunately this contest is only open to those currently residing in Singapore. But all of you are welcome to share your thoughts too!
The closing date for this giveaway is Sunday 28th of Feb 2359 hrs, and so you have exactly forty eight hours before it ends.
I hope you enjoy the little gift I have for everyone!

I love Chilli Crabs!
Chili Crabs are great for a person like me because I am a lover of spicy food and Chilli Crabs are perfect since it’s spicy but not too spicy at the same time. I love the sauce and I love how when you dip the mantous into it, it makes you feel so blissful.
February 27th, 2010 @ 12:49 am
I love Black Pepper Crabs @ Eng Seng, still road. Not too wet or too dry, and they are spicy!!!!
February 27th, 2010 @ 1:01 am
crab beehhon at ming kee. i dream about it……………
February 27th, 2010 @ 1:05 am
I love creamy crab! I’m not really a fan of spicy stuff so this one really works for me. Creamy, slightly sweet, peppery, yummy!
February 27th, 2010 @ 1:14 am
Woooo! I love chilli crab. Especially the mouth watering sauce.
I had my first chilli crab during my grandfather’s birthday. But now he’s gone, so everytime I have chilli crab it reminds me of him.
Also, the fried man tous is a must!
Pick me pick me!
February 27th, 2010 @ 1:50 am
chilli crab and mantou! because its a deadly combination!
February 27th, 2010 @ 2:01 am
I know I can’t win but still!
My favourite crab is a dead crab. Preferably freshly dead. And in a chilli spa. Yay!
February 27th, 2010 @ 2:04 am
chilli crabs were at the center of a dispute between 2 countries. That just goes to show the extent of its popularity…
and the gravy is so versatile; you can pour extras on rice or anything else tt you can think of!
February 27th, 2010 @ 2:04 am
I love the white pepper crab @ No Signboard!!! The taste of white pepper and spring onions with the crab makes it a gorgeous combination.
February 27th, 2010 @ 4:16 am
I don’t really like chilli crab but i love black pepper crab!! the gravy is awesome and it goes well with noodles and rice!! sometimes i would use the leftover sauce and heat it up to accompany rice or noodles!!
February 27th, 2010 @ 5:54 am
Happy Crab @ Geylang!
Each crab is served individually, slightly BBQ with a brush of black pepper sauce. Sweetness of the crab flesh is best consumed & tasted together with the served belachan, mayonnaise & wasabi sauce.
February 27th, 2010 @ 8:14 am
Does crab bee hoon count? I like it the soup is so sweet and nourishing!
February 27th, 2010 @ 9:24 am
It’s been a long time since me and my family dine at Long Beach. They used to serve kick ass Black Pepper Crab. Love the peppery taste. I wonder if it is still the same.
February 27th, 2010 @ 9:30 am
I simply love the Chilli Crab from Jumbo Seafood, but haven’t had a chance to try Palm Beach before… Looking at the photo, it seems to be a close fight!
Let me be one of the winners and I’ll tell you which one I prefer… LOL
February 27th, 2010 @ 9:41 am
butter crabs are my favourite, though i’ve only had them at mellben. the thick creamy gravy marries well with the crab meat, and we can never decide whether to order more man tou or how to get the best man tou to gravy ratio.
despite the feeling of our arteries clogging up with all that sinful cholesterol, there’s no stopping us. literally, to die for.
February 27th, 2010 @ 9:46 am
Crab. I love Chili Crabs at No Signboard. They are usually not so salty and is very tasty.

Tell me more: Close proximity to my home. I usually tabao chilli crab + mantou and enjoy them in the comfort of my home.
Planned dinner of crabs: Sin Huat
Tell me more: You need sufficient moolah (Danny will decide what you eat) as well as be early enough so that you don’t have to wait too long for Danny to cook up a storm in the kitchen.
Crabs for late high tea: Eng Seng
Tell me more: Usually go between 4-5pm so that you get to eat crabs and yet not have to wait too long and be at the mercy of the grouchy food nazi.
I like to indulge in yummy crabs but I dislike waiting excruciating long for them to end up in my tummy. So I select auspicious hours to visit the respective makan places.
So you see, there’s a crab for every occasion!

Hello Guys, thanks for all the comments, please keep them coming. Just in case some of you misunderstood my question: I’m asking for what’s your favorite style of cooking for crabs, and not where – it does not have to be from a particular restaurant. Just tell me what style do you like, and if you happen to like an unique way of cooking crabs which can be anything for example, Double Baked Cheese Crab, let us know!
For those who have posted, don’t worry your comments are valid. This is only a reminder for those who have not enter their entries.

I lurve chilli crabs with lotsa gravy, chock full of crab roe and eggs! Those that i can drown my mantou into.. Oh gawd… its simply divine! Miss the ones my granny used to cook….
February 27th, 2010 @ 10:24 am
Steamed! just plain steamed, if the crab is fresh, no bells and whistles are required, just the original sweetness of the crab meat.
February 27th, 2010 @ 10:25 am
I love eating crabs because it is sweet revenge for the many times I have been pinched by them.
I especially love the Chilli types!
Yes yes, I am in Australia but just wanted to share my thoughts!
Good work Brad
February 27th, 2010 @ 10:37 am
I love butter crab, with rich creamy gravy… it’s aromatic and the consistency is good for those who do not like the savory chilli crab.
and the gravy is good as dips for fried mantous too!
this is so exciting!!!
February 27th, 2010 @ 10:45 am
Chili crab, definitely! The very first crab I’ve ever eaten was done in this style, and it remains my favourite.
Fried mantous are a plus!
February 27th, 2010 @ 10:47 am
I’d have to go for the crab at Defu Lane – except I can’t decide between Chilli and Butter… darn. I’d skip the mantou since I don’t mind drinking the chilli sauce direct, heh heh
February 27th, 2010 @ 11:03 am
I absolutely love black pepper crabs!
February 27th, 2010 @ 11:03 am
i like salted egg crabs coz they are yummy!
February 27th, 2010 @ 11:13 am
i like salted egg crabs too!! hahabear, will you marry me? oh right you already did
February 27th, 2010 @ 11:24 am
I love the chilli crab from wu zhao pai!! So yummy ;D
February 27th, 2010 @ 11:52 am
i love basically any types of crab, and is constantly looking out for to try! i’ve tried steamed, chilli, black pepper, butter, salted egg, cereal, and cold crab.
but my favourite will be chilli crab (of course, it’s like the favourite of almost all singaporeans) as well as salted egg crab!
i love the salted egg crab at the serangoon ave 2 coffeeshop, it’s quite different in the sense that they fry the salted egg into strands, and then coat it onto the crab! not like the normal salted egg crabs which tend to have some sort of gravy, where you can see lumps of egg yolk!
of course chilli crab rocks too, because i especially like to eat it with the fried mantou! but sometimes it’s way too spicy for me!
so it’s salted egg crab ftw!
February 27th, 2010 @ 11:54 am
?? crabs from Mellben Seafood, comes in a uber creamy sauce and sprinkled w cereal
taste heavenly w deep fried mantous
yay
February 27th, 2010 @ 11:55 am
as abv, Jin Sha (golden sand) Crabs.
February 27th, 2010 @ 12:05 pm
Salted egg crabs are definitely my favourite. No doubt, it’s one cholesterol-laden indulgence, but savoury yolk crumbs really make a great pair with sweet and juicy crab flesh. The umami sauce is really addictive, I’m always left greedily licking it up!
February 27th, 2010 @ 12:23 pm
I like crab cooked with tanghoon because you get to eat the crab AND the crab-flavour-infused-tanghoon
so you get to get twice the crab flavour quantity-wise
February 27th, 2010 @ 12:37 pm
oh yum. wish i was in singapore to try
February 27th, 2010 @ 12:39 pm
actually all crabs are lovely…anything crabby is LOVEEE!!!
but lets go for something different…COLD CRABS!!! whooooo~ cold fresh tasting sweet meat for the kill! xD
*the coldness brings out the sweetness of the crab meat which is seriously HEAVENLY (provided of course the crabs used are f-r-e-s-h!) =D
February 27th, 2010 @ 12:45 pm
My favourite crab is a blend of pepper and chilly, salty and sweet. This gives me a wide variety of instantaneous taste. Yummmmmm

February 27th, 2010 @ 1:08 pm
I like chilli crabs, because of the fried mantou hahah. And of course the crabs have to be handled well so that the meat doesn’t stick to the shell. On another day when I feel like eating ‘lighter’, I like beehoon crab!
February 27th, 2010 @ 1:12 pm
Like you, my favorite is the chilli crab cos of the gooey sweet sauce. So good i pour it over my rice and eat it like that
February 27th, 2010 @ 1:20 pm
I like the creamy butter crab from Palm Beach.
Well doused in thick creamy cheese sauce with fried bits of butter and a very soft-creamy taste/smell.
Cheese lover will love this unique mouthwatering dish.
February 27th, 2010 @ 1:51 pm
I love butter crabs!! tantalising taste esp when fried mantous are dipped into its creamy gravy. Loves!
February 27th, 2010 @ 1:51 pm
I love butter crabs.
It rich, creamy and yummy! although Singaporeans usually like Chili crab, but i don’t cos i can’t take spicy.
February 27th, 2010 @ 2:02 pm
definitely has to be the salted egg crabs. hign cholesterol and all, it’s definitely worth it!
February 27th, 2010 @ 3:59 pm
Salted Egg Crab
February 27th, 2010 @ 4:01 pm
i totally agree, ppl put so much debate into which is the best this or that, which is the most tasty meal.. etc.. but at the end of the day, as long as all the key factors are there (fresh ingredients, great cooking style, value for money) the best place is usually what we like best and keep going back for. less debate. more eating.
February 27th, 2010 @ 5:47 pm
i love chilli crab with extra gravy and mantous!! because it is so flavourful it explodes in my mouth. boomz.
February 27th, 2010 @ 6:07 pm
chilli crab, with you tiao. tastes like a heart attack waiting to happen, which probably explains why i like it so much.
February 27th, 2010 @ 7:03 pm
Salted Egg Crab~ Double enjoyment- Saltiness of the century egg and tender sweetness of crabs. *drool*
February 27th, 2010 @ 7:25 pm
Creamy crab c/w sauce with a hint of curry leaves and chilli which will not overpowered the taste of the natural flavour of the crawling seafood. Wipe off the savoury crab and wipe off the lusious sauce with the mantou. Complete meal.
February 27th, 2010 @ 7:51 pm
My all-time favourite is the good ole Chilli Crab — it’s spicy, and I grew up eating it so it’s got lots of sentimental memories attached to the dish. Hope I get to eat some at Palm Beach!
February 27th, 2010 @ 8:14 pm
Steamed crab – because that’s when you taste the true freshness and sweetness of the crab!
February 27th, 2010 @ 8:41 pm
Pepper crab
Because with chili crab theres so much gravy that you cant tell if the crab is rotten or not.
February 27th, 2010 @ 9:37 pm

February 27th, 2010 @ 10:05 pm
Wow, I’ve been craving crabs for a week, so this comes at an opportune time! I’m a fan for just about all kinds of crab, but I think butter crab is just heavenly. It’s as sinful as it is good.
February 27th, 2010 @ 10:43 pm
Crab bee hon for me.. i love the creamy buttery soup base together with the sweet flesh of the crab.. its just perfect
February 27th, 2010 @ 10:54 pm
black pepper crab!!!
how the black pepper and crab “combined” gives a spicy + shiok feeling! and the licking of the crabs with the black pepper on top of it is just YUMMMS.
but i like the mantou served with chilli crabs too… so i kinda have a dilemnia all the time.
February 27th, 2010 @ 11:34 pm
Steamed Crabs
The only way to taste the original flavour of the crabs.
February 27th, 2010 @ 11:52 pm
i love kam heong style crabs. that amazing way the ingredients : hae bee, garlic, shallots, curry powder and leaves with chilli padi come together to create a finger licking good sauce.
February 27th, 2010 @ 11:53 pm
chilli crabs. for the sauce to dip those tiny one bite mantous into.
February 27th, 2010 @ 11:54 pm

February 28th, 2010 @ 12:20 am
i like no signboard at geylang.. opps u are asking for the style of cooking right?? hehhee
Of cos to get the sweet taste of crab meat, and will not be cheated of its freshness…
STEAM!!!! some even steam with shaoxing wine & egg white… oooooo…. yummy….. need some crabs now and no craps!
February 28th, 2010 @ 12:47 am
Nothing fresher and sweeter than the original steamed crab
~~~ (salivate!)
February 28th, 2010 @ 12:54 am
I love Crab cooked with fried vermicelli. Love it because the vermicelli soaks up the broth in which the crab was cooked in. Then both the vermicelli and the crab are heated up in a claypot till the vermicelli dries up till it’s nicely dry yet soft. Yummy… The crab has the taste of the broth and the vermicelli was deliciously tasty and chewy!
It will be Deep Fried Crabs in Chili Oyster Sauce
This is how my mom normally cooks our crab back home in Manila. Btw, I am a Filipino Chinese, hence the dish is still Chinese inspired in taste.
First, she deep fried the crabs in flour with some seasonings on it. After which, she uses oyster sauce to use as a sauce base covering the crabs. Putting some chili (sili labuyo) to the sauce does wonder. A tinge of spiciness should come through the dish.
A dish which is sweet, salty and spicy is a great combination to a wonderful meal. The sauce will stick to the flour coating of the crab making it more tasty. Add some sesame oil.
February 28th, 2010 @ 4:24 am
Chilli crab is da BOMB! Mantou is also the must have with it!
I always pack the leftover gravy home too =)
February 28th, 2010 @ 5:55 am
I absolutely love black pepper crab! it has been a personal favorite for years. But if I had to have a second pick, it would definitely have to be the infamous chilli crab. Nothing beats a meal with great seafood. super shoik
February 28th, 2010 @ 8:56 am
definitely chilli crab. you can eat it on its own or with the fried mantou. either way, it’s yums!!!
February 28th, 2010 @ 10:48 am
crab bee hoon! esp when the soup is super infused with the crab. and the beehoon soaks it all up
February 28th, 2010 @ 10:56 am
I LOVE Chilli Crab! especially for the one that has crab eggs!!
everything simply blends nicely and gives you the best taste you could ever get
the mantou gives additional touch to it.
February 28th, 2010 @ 10:57 am
salted egg yolk!
this ‘gold plated’ dish has the sweetness of crab infused with the zesty taste of the golden egg yolks, especially if the crabs have roe. the taste of salted egg yolk with crab roe dancing in your mouth is absolutely heavenly. definitely ‘gold rated’!
February 28th, 2010 @ 11:23 am
Crab vermicelli, dry, thai style
February 28th, 2010 @ 12:36 pm
I adore a perfectly fresh steamed crab. The taste of the pure sweetness of the crab meat, which I sometimes lightly dip in a vinegar-soy sauce dip, is exquisite.
Sometimes, it’s the simple things in life that truly matter.
February 28th, 2010 @ 12:58 pm
Chilli Crab!! thickness of the sauce, smoothness of the eggs, freshness of the crab in total harmony. Mouth-watering pungent yet gentle dish~ Best to eat it with your hands! Slurp!
February 28th, 2010 @ 1:02 pm
I used to only love eating Chilli crabs especially all the gravy + roe, of course with mantous too!
But, I’ve got a new-found love – Black Pepper Crabs! For the very first time I tried yesterday & voila! It was love at first taste! I like it as there isn’t much gravy to it, love the tinge of spicyness.
February 28th, 2010 @ 3:08 pm
Gotta be Chilli Crabs with fried mantous…
February 28th, 2010 @ 4:25 pm
I love the crab bee hoon soup at Melben AMK! I love the milky soup (yum!)as well as the dig out delicious crab meat in the dish.
February 28th, 2010 @ 5:16 pm
I love salted egg yolk crabs…the saltiness and the crumbly egg yolk the gives a sandy sea flavour to the crabs that just seems to enhance the crab flavour…yummy yum yum. Just the thought of it makes me salivate…
February 28th, 2010 @ 5:42 pm
Nv tried crab before in my life cause I’m a utensils person but if there’s crab dish which will get my hands dirty and drooling at the sight of it, it would be an imaginative never yet created nor seen before Black Pepper Crab Claws, Chilli Crab Meat(main composition of the crab’s body) and other variations of the cooking but different parts of the crab all served in one dish with freshly steamed pandan & plain mantous for accompaniments. I like mine a variety!!
February 28th, 2010 @ 7:38 pm
Chilli crabs will be my favourite! I am pretty old skool and there is nothing wrong with that. And I love the fried buns! Very filling but it does mop up all the sauce.
February 28th, 2010 @ 7:53 pm
