Coffee cube latte is a unique twist on your usual iced coffee, and can be made as a morning or early afternoon pick-me-up. We actually prefer this to regular iced coffee, because the coffee does not get watered down as we continue drinking. When the coffee cubes melt, the taste only becomes richer.

If you’re like us and you find it hard to survive without a cuppa in the morning, this recipe’s for you. Especially when we live in such a humid environment, a cold cup of coffee is just what we need to start the day well.

This fuss-free coffee cube latte recipe just needs 10 minutes of your time and 3 ingredients that you can easily find at home.

The day all of us bubble tea lovers have been waiting for has come after an arduous 2-month wait.

Bubble tea stores are FINALLY allowed to reopen on 19 June 2020 during Phase 2 along with other F&B establishments.

Bubble tea shops, to our dismay, were closed on 22 April 2020 to further reduce the number of essential workers during the Circuit Breaker. While a number of retail shops were allowed to reopen in May, bubble tea stores were not part of that list.

We are glad to finally be reunited with our favourite drink soon!

The day we’ve all been restlessly waiting for has come, and Singapore has finally exited the Circuit Breaker.

However, before we dash out of our homes in euphoria and attempt to carry out every single activity we’ve been waiting to do, we need to understand that our lives from now onwards will be a long stretch from what it previously used to be like.

As we rev our engines and restart our work towards normalcy, we have to remember that our society isn’t the same place that we left behind before we entered the Circuit Breaker.

Our economy is in shambles and Singapore will be entering a recession this year. A dark, ominous cloud looms above our heads, fuelled by a significant amount of uncertainty, especially over the duration and intensity of the period. Singapore’s GDP growth forecast for 2020 has been revised downwards to -7% to -4%, the lowest in Singapore’s history.

How long will we be stuck in this rut? How bad will it be? What can we do moving forward to prevent things from getting worse?

While you may think of yourself as a small speck in Singapore’s 5.6 million population, every effort counts and we all need to work together to save our little red dot. Don’t know where to start? Here are 6 ways in which you can contribute to getting Singapore back on her feet.

AVOID DELIVERY SERVICES AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE AND ORDER DIRECTLY FROM THE F&B BUSINESS ITSELF

While delivery apps like GrabFood and Foodpanda are undoubtedly a convenient option, placing an order via them may be harming your favourite eateries more than helping them.

These platforms charge a whopping 20% to 40% commission for regular deliveries and 10% to 20% commission for self pick-up orders. To make up for the loss, some eateries tend to jack up their prices, but this usually ends up deterring diners from ordering from them. You can read about all this in detail here.

It is pretty hard to eliminate our usage of such apps completely as there are instances where it is the merchant’s only delivery option or it is inconvenient for you to takeaway from the eatery itself. However, as much as possible, we should try to minimise our usage of these platforms whenever we can to support our local establishments. Check out Facebook groups such as Singapore Restaurant Rescue and Hawkers United — Dabao 2020 to find out which restaurants and hawkers you can order directly from.

SEND YOUR FRIENDS AND LOVED ONES SOME FOOD

We know it’s a bummer that we still can’t really hang out with all our friends and we sorely miss them. One way to let them know that you’re thinking of them is to send them food. Aside from making your friend happy, you will also be supporting local businesses as well. That’s killing two birds with one stone!

You can order meals from your favourite restaurants that offer islandwide deliveries in Singapore, send them a pint of ice cream or two, or your favourite Basque Burnt Cheesecakes.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

Mala instant noodles and Suan La Fen are all the rage in Singapore right now. Order a carton of the popular Mala Oden to send to your friends and family.

Feeling fat from pigging out during Circuit Breaker? Try the best slimming coffee in Singapore from Mskinny.

LEAVE A TIP WHENEVER POSSIBLE

Though Singapore doesn’t have a tipping culture, there isn’t anything wrong with giving a tip once in a while to spread some happiness and make someone’s day. The next time you order something or head down to dabao something from the chicken rice auntie near your house, tell the merchants or delivery person to keep the change. It may be a minuscule gesture, but every small step counts in helping our local businesses.

#SAVEFNBSG AND VISIT YOUR LOCAL HAWKERS CENTRES AND EATERIES

The F&B scene in Singapore is in absolute ruins right now. With eateries not being able to allow their customers to dine in and having to switch to delivery and takeaway options, sales have taken a plunge, leaving these poor businesses in a sinking ship that’s close to becoming fully submerged.

We’ve already heard of a number of businesses that have given up on the battle and closed down to cut losses. It would be awful if more of such dining establishments follow suit and we should do as much as we can to protect the remaining ones.

So, whenever possible, support our hawkers and restaurants by patronising them. It doesn’t have to be a daily affair, but we can all attempt to do so whenever convenient.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

#SUPPORTLOCAL AND ORDER SOMETHING FROM HOME-BASED BUSINESSES OR HOME-GROWN BRANDS

We must not forget that aside from our brick and mortar stalls, home-based businesses and home-grown brands are just as badly affected by the pandemic as everyone else. For a period of time during the Circuit Breaker, these brands were not allowed to operate so as to curb human-to-human interaction. This also means that they were not receiving any revenue at all.

To help them out, you can always make a small purchase from them. For a comprehensive list of home-based and home-grown businesses, you can check out hbb.sg.

#TREATYOURSELF AND DO A LITTLE SHOPPING

Who would have ever imagined that spoiling ourselves with occasional gifts would be useful in saving Singapore’s dying economy? With most physical stores being shut for the time being, many of our favourite brands have desperately turned to online platforms to continue their businesses. To help them make it over the next few hurdles before stores are allowed to re-operate again, purchasing something from them online can help boost their sales and survive another month.

While we aren’t asking you to go crazy and start carting out all the items in your wishlist, a little retail therapy to #treatyourself will definitely help to stimulate the economy. So yes, get those pair of shoes you’ve been eyeing; you deserve it for surviving the Circuit Breaker.

COVID-19 has left Singapore’s F&B industry in a catastrophic mess, especially after dining out was banned during the Circuit Breaker period. Eateries have been struggling to make ends meet and despite many of them still allowing takeaway or delivery, it is not always enough.

So, it isn’t surprising that a number of these dining establishments have had to shut their doors and leave Singapore’s F&B industry. Over the past few months, we’ve heard of the closing of a number of reputable restaurants across our little red dot and it is truly heartbreaking.

Just recently, there have been rumours that Stärker Group has become one of the next casualties of the pandemic. Are these, however, true? We will find out by 10 June 2020.

For a little context, the Stärker Group owns a chain of German bistros and restaurants that specialises in German-style fresh beer and hearty sharing platters that you can enjoy with some live music.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>//

The Stärker Group has put a notice up on their social media platforms stating that they are temporarily closed during the pandemic period, but there have been no updates since, which has caused plenty of speculation.

We’ve recently discovered that a “Notice of Creditors Meeting” under section 209 of the Companies Act has been put up for “Stärker Brewery Pte. Ltd” and “Stärker F&B Pte. Ltd.”, and that a fully electronic meeting conducted by video-conference will decide their fate. This meeting will be held on 10 June 2020 at 3pm and 4pm and will discuss the company’s affairs, estimate amounts of creditors’ claims, appointing a liquidator, appointing a committee of inspection and any other business.

There are two types of people in this world — the ones who prefer peppery bak kut teh and the ones who prefer the herbal version. There’s no sitting on the fence for this one. It’s all about personal preference.

Whatever it is, this soupy dish just seems to have this magical ability to kick start your appetite, even if you weren’t hungry in the first place. And one of the best parts of bak kut teh isn’t even the dish itself, it’s the side dishes that come along with it. Preserved vegetables, vinegar pig trotters and braised intestines — all part of the package.

We’ve compiled this guide of 15 bak kut teh places in Singapore that are offering islandwide delivery during this period.

One thing that we have sorely been missing during the Circuit Breaker is the freedom to go cafe hopping. While we can’t experience the chill atmosphere and aesthetic layout of our favourite cafes, we still can try to recreate some popular cafe dishes in our kitchens while we stay home.

A popular menu item that you can attempt to make is luncheon meat fries. These thick strips of fried goodness are painfully addictive, but at the same time, they aren’t the most healthy appetiser around as everything is deep-fried. If you have an air fryer, make these fries a little less sinful by cooking them in it. We have here a simple 9-step recipe you can follow to do up your very own cafe-style luncheon meat fries with an air fryer.

WHAT YOU NEED TO MAKE 3-INGREDIENT AIR FRYER LUNCHEON MEAT FRIES:

1 can of luncheon meat

1 egg

Breadcrumbs (1/2 a cup)

Air fryer

Chopping board

Knife

Oil or grease spray

Bowls for egg wash and bread crumbs

STEP 1

Preheat air fryer to 180 degrees celsius.

STEP 2

Cut luncheon meat into strips. After slicing everything, put strips in the freezer for 10 minutes.

STEP 3

While waiting for the luncheon meat in the freezer, whisk an egg to use as an egg wash.

STEP 4

Remove luncheon meat strips from freezer. Dip them one by one into the egg wash.

STEP 5

Dip luncheon meat into the plate of breadcrumbs and evenly cover each strip. Repeat steps 4 & 5 until all the luncheon meat strips are coated.

STEP 6

Grease your air fryer and arrange luncheon meat strips inside.

STEP 7

Cook at 180 degree celsius for 4 to 5 minutes.

STEP 8

After 5 minutes, open the air fryer, flip the luncheon meat strips over and fry for another 4 to 5 minutes until they are all evenly cooked.

STEP 9

Remove fries from air fryer, plate and enjoy!

And there you have it, a quick 9-step recipe on how to make luncheon meat fries in an air fryer. Jazz up your plating skills by serving the luncheon meat fried in the tin can that they came in!

It’s an open truth — F&B businesses have not been having the easiest time during this COVID-19 period. With everybody staying in and the decreased footfall, there has been a massive plunge in sales in the F&B sector.

Even though many establishments have pushed out delivery and takeaway services, some have not been able to tide through. Whether it was the high rental costs or low profits, these burdens were too heavy to bear.

Here is a list of 30 F&B businesses in Singapore which are planning to or have already shut down for good during COVID-19. Nevertheless, we hope that this is not goodbye forever and we’ll see them come back stronger than ever.

Fun fact: Kway chap is actually a Teochew dish. Another fun fact (that you already know): It’s a very popular Teochew dish. If there’s one dish that we would kill for on rainy days, it would have to be this.

When you’re eating kway chap, it’s impossible to get bored. The medley of ingredients squeezed onto one plate keeps you excited throughout the meal, from start to finish. We love that you can come up with all kinds of permutations in every bite — kway and intestines, tau pok and pork belly, and so on.

Okay, but enough talking. We’re ready for our kway chap fix. Here are 9 kway chap places in Singapore that are doing islandwide delivery!

So you’ve had pad thai and green curry before. Big deal. But, have you tried Thai-style kway chap? This Thai dish certainly takes on a different appearance from the brown herbal soup we’re so used to, from the clear peppery soup to the rolled-up noodles.

You still get the usual ingredients of pork intestines and pork belly, as well as less common ones such as fish sausage and roast pork. Do yourselves a favour and get another serving of their crackling roasted pork.

Enjoy free islandwide delivery from them with a minimum order of S$35. Order here.

If all the kway chap stalls in Singapore formed a gang, Yu Kee Duck Rice would be the one they’d call “Lao Da”. With countless outlets across the island, Yu Kee has almost become a household name for kway chap and duck rice.

There is a minimum order of S$40 and a flat delivery fee of S$5. Advanced notice of at least one hour is required. Deliveries are available from 8am to 6pm daily.

Have you ever tried fresh strawberry milk with a Korean twist to it? This refreshing Korean fresh strawberry milk drink is usually sold in the summertime in various boutique cafés around Seoul, Korea.

The difference between regular strawberry milk and Korean strawberry milk is the fact that real strawberries are used in the Korean version. Nothing is artificial or processed in the bottle of Korean strawberry milk.

The prices range from S$6 to S$8 for just one bottle. Sounds expensive? We think so too. Especially when you just need 10 minutes of your time and 3 ingredients. It’s that easy. Here is a Korean fresh strawberry milk recipe on how to make this popular drink at home.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO MAKE KOREAN FRESH STRAWBERRY MILK

- 10 strawberries
- 3 tbsp sugar
- 200ml milk

HOW TO MAKE KOREAN FRESH STRAWBERRY MILK – STEP 1

Step 1: Cut 5 strawberries in half and remove the top part. Put them in a bowl and crush them. Pour 3 tbsp of sugar into the bowl of crushed strawberries and mix.

HOW TO MAKE KOREAN FRESH STRAWBERRY MILK – STEP 2

Step 2: Put the mixture in a pot and turn the heat to medium. When it starts to boil, mix it around for a minute or so before letting the purée cool.

HOW TO MAKE KOREAN FRESH STRAWBERRY MILK – STEP 3

Step 3: Chop the rest of the strawberries in small sizes. Pour the purée into a bottle, add the milk in, and finally, the chopped strawberries. And you’re done! Here is your Korean fresh strawberry milk.

Pro-Tips:
If you leave this in the fridge overnight, it’ll taste even better after a few hours.

The Chinese-style delicacy features an assortment of bite-sized portions of food such as dumplings, buns and fried fritters that are served in little bamboo baskets. Unfortunately, unless you’re a pro in the kitchen, these morsels of joy aren’t easy to do up yourself.

Thankfully for us, there are many dim sum restaurants in Singapore that will be offering islandwide deliveries for dim sum during the Circuit Breaker period.

From the famous Swee Choon to the underrated Yi Dian Xin, we’ve got all your dim sum delivery needs covered. While we will have to do without the bamboo baskets and the experience itself, this shall suffice for now.
