3 of the Finest Steak Restaurants in Hong Kong

Dry Aged Steak

Over at Hong Kong, they do their steaks really well. Now, trust us because we are so picky with our steaks and few have impressed us as much as these ones that we are about to share did.

Steakhouses in Hong Kong are really popular for many reasons – mean meat (but of course), sexy environment, impeccable service and knowledgeable wait staff, fantastic wines to be paired… The bankers at Hong Kong have a serious love affair with steaks, and it is also probably why standards are raised and kept so high and almost unattainable.

Here, we will share with you three of the most incredible steakhouses in Hong Kong that will leave you breathless. Tried and tested, and supremely impressed.

THE BUTCHER’S CLUB DELI

A butchery, home catering and private kitchen which specialises in dry ageing beef, we had the honour to attend one of their pop-up restaurants some time ago. It was life-changing to say the least; we never knew steaks could blow our minds that way. Once you have tried one of their top quality dry aged beef steaks, you will never see steaks the same way again.

The deftly seasoned steak was tender, beautifully cooked with a remarkable depth of flavour. It stayed juicy throughout, and it was excellent right down to the last bite. Everyone on our table was blown away by how good it was.

Of course, this is not your everyday option. But what we are saying is if you have a party to throw or a big group of carnivores who are hungry for some crazy feasting, then the idea of having a private dinner served by The Butcher Club is never better. There is a minimum spend of HKS$10,000 and the recommended number of guests for the event is 6.

Most people love getting wasted over alcohol, but that is too mainstream and we would prefer going high on some mean steaks prepared by buffed chefs any time.

Wagyu Ribeye

BLUE BUTCHER BAR & RESTAURANT

We had a very good meal at Blue Butcher Bar & Restaurant, a meat house that sources its meat from farms that do not compromise on quality, and they hang the meat in-house using age-old recipes together with modern techniques.

The 320z Australian Mann river farm Wagyu bone-in Ribeye (HK$1480) that we had was beyond amazing. We were swooning with every bite – beautifully cooked, the steak was juicy, meaty and very tender, and it was extremely satisfying. The menu also offers an eclectic selection of cocktails that all come with interesting and catchy names – think Pork Chop & Apple Sauce, Bangers & Mash, and Fig & Cheese.

With delicious cocktails, warm and welcoming service, and the best cuts, Blue Butcher Bar & Restaurant is a place that you should head to with a group of carnivorous friends for a feisty night’s out.

The Steak House Grill

THE STEAK HOUSE WINEBAR + GRILL

Located at the basement of InterContinental Hotel Hong Kong, THE STEAK HOUSE winebar + grill is a 1-Michelin star that offers a great selection of the finest cuts – from USDA prime beef to Australian Wagyu to Japan Hida A5 Wagyu. Well, let’s just say the options are mind-boggling and one trip here won’t be enough to fully experience its wonders.

To complement your steaks, side dishes are aplenty – creamed spinach, truffled mash, onion rings and sauteed mushrooms are but some of the crowd’s favourites. For non-steak lovers, fret not because there are many salad and seafood options for your pick too.

We digressed. Let’s go back to the steaks. The charred taste is actually pretty addictive, and goes so well with the melty (good) fats of the well-marbled meat. Do medium rare or medium well if you really need to. There are twelve kinds of mustards and eight kinds of salts to go with your steaks, so it is like experiencing a different taste with every bite.

They have an impressive wine cellar too, and so is their desserts menu. What you must not miss out on, and is very eye-opening is its Molten Lava Cake. So huge that it might just be bigger than our faces. Not for the faint-hearted, and please do order this for sharing.
