Japanese gyudon chain, Sukiya is opening a new outlet at the basement of Jewel Changi Airport.

Sukiya is literally in every corner of Japan. It is the go-to place for a quick and good meal, because gyudon is such a staple to Japanese.

Established in Japan in 1982, Sukiya currently boasts more than 2,000 outlets in Japan alone. The popular gyudon chain is also in eight other countries including Malaysia and Hong Kong.

Sukiya opened its first outlet in Singapore at Suntec City on 17 Feb 2021.

The new outlet at Jewel Changi Airport will be at basement 2, taking over the space that used to be A-One Signature. Sukiya joins the list of new tenants at Jewel Changi Airport, including Feng Sheng Hao, The Hainan Story and Sushiro.

Popular Kaiten sushi chain, Sushiro is opening a new outlet at Jewel Changi Airport. Yay to another affordable kaiten sushi option at the airport!

Japan’s largest conveyer belt sushi chain, Sushiro is known for its affordable and wide range of sushi and side dishes. You can always enjoy a good sushi meal at Sushiro without breaking the bank.

Sushiro’s new outlet at Jewel Changi Airport is located at #B2-227 / 228, located between Beauty In The Pot and Dian Xiao Er. It will be taking over the former premise vacated by Four Seasons Restaurant, which made news for its dim sum and durian hotpot in Singapore.

It has yet to announce an official opening date for the new outlet and we will update you again once we get the confirmation.

Specialising in Taiwanese-style hotpot and bubble tea, Coucou Hot Pot is opening two outlets in Singapore at Suntec City and Jewel Changi Airport.

Established in 2016, Coucou Hotpot has currently has outlets in China and Hong Kong and it is opening its first outlet in Singapore at level three of Suntec City’s North Wing will open in Dec 2021 while the second outlet at Jewel Changi Airport level 2 (next to Kam’s Roast) will open in Jan 2022.

While Coucou Hotpot Singapore has yet to announce the full menu for its Singapore outlet, it has revealed on Instagram that it will serving a selection of meat (Japanese wagyu, Iberico black pork slices USDA beef), seafood (abalone, live shrimps, Boston lobster) as well as the usual hotpot ingredients such as vegetables, mushrooms and meatballs.

Opened by Four Seasons Durian, Four Seasons Restaurant at Jewel Changi Airport is known for its unique dishes infused with durian including its signature Durian Hot Pot as well as other Nanyang-style dishes.

It has just launched a new a la carte halal dim sum buffet (from 5 April to 12 May 2021) at S$25.80++ pax which is available from Mondays to Fridays from 11am to 5pm.

Four Season Restaurant’s halal dim sum buffet features an assortment of dim sum and desserts and it is priced at:

Famous Chinese sauerkraut fish (Suan Cai Yu, or sour vegetables fish) restaurant from China, Tai Er Chinese SauerKraut Fish is opening its first outlet at Jewel Changi Airport.

Not to be confused with Tai Er Grilled Fish, Fragrant Spicy crab (which apparently is not from China) at Compass One which has the same name and spots a similar look and concept, Tai Er Chinese SauerKraut Fish is a massive chain with many restaurants in China.

It specialises in the Chinese sauerkraut fish—a traditional Sichuanese dish that is popular throughout China.

Other than its signature Suan Cai Yu, Tai Er Chinese SauerKraut Fish in China is also known for its rules:

• You can only have four people max at one table at a time, and no latecomers will be seated.
• The restaurant will not adjust the spiciness level of the grilled fish
• No takeout

We wonder if Tai Er Chinese SauerKraut Fish’s outpost in Singapore will maintain these rules.

Tsui Wah Singapore is opening a new outlet at Jewel Changi Airport and it will be taking over the former premise of PizzaExpress on level 3.

Tsui Wah’s second outlet at The Heeren has been temporarily closed since 16 Dec 2021 due to the leasing issue with the landlord and it is unclear if they will be reopening at The Heeren.

Those of you who are staying in the East of Singapore will now be able to enjoy Tsui Wah’s popular dishes including the Swiss Sauce Chicken Wings, King Prawns in XO Sauce with Tossed Noodles and Hong Kong-style milk tea at the new outlet at Jewel Changi Airport.

Luke’s Lobster Singapore has opened a second outlet at Jewel Changi Airport on level 1, next to % Arabica Coffee.

Known for its Maine Style lobsters, crabs and shrimps, Luke’s Lobster is a famous lobster shack from the USA that prides itself on using sustainably-sourced lobsters & seafood for their signature rolls.

The famous lobster roll restaurant is brought in by lifestyle company Caerus Holding, the regional partner of Lady M and they are the ones who brought New York’s famous cake boutique, Lady M to Singapore.

Luke’s Lobster opened its first outlet at Shaw Centre in end September, but unlike Luke’s Lobster in Japan which still has a long queue until today, the hype at the Shaw centre outlet has since died down and you can easily get a lobster roll without waiting for too long.

The second Luke’s Lobster outlet at Jewel Changi Airport is at #01-K209, next to % Arabica Coffee. Luke’s Lobster Singapore has officially opened the new outlet this week.

Fans of lobster rolls can now choose between Burger & Lobster and Luke’s Lobster when dining at Jewel Changi Airport.

ICED YIN YANG 

If you’re both a coffee and matcha fanatic and you can’t decide between the two, get yourself a cup of their Iced Yin Yang (S$5), Café Amazon’s take on the popular Yuan Yang. This drink can only be found in their Singapore outlets!

Our usual Yuan Yang is a blend of milk tea and coffee, but here at Café Amazon, they decided to spruce it up a little by using high-quality matcha that is blended together with creamy milk and topped with a shot of their signature espresso.

ICED ESPRESSO 

Coffee aficionados will adore their iconic Iced Espresso (S$4.50), which features a single iced Amazon Blend shot sweetened with milk and cream. While iced espresso may seem rather unconventional to Singaporeans, it is actually very popular in Thailand amongst locals.

A Thai tradition that provides the drink with a little sweetness is the addition of milk, which also gives the entire drink a creamier, smoother texture.

ICED THAI MILK TEA 

To pay homage to their Thai roots, Café Amazon also offers traditional Iced Thai Milk Tea (S$4.50)—one of their best-sellers. What makes the Iced Thai Milk Tea here at Café Amazon Singapore stand out is how each cup of tea is brewed individually to ensure that every drink that’s pushed out is of the highest quality.

To jazz up your cup of Iced Coffee Marble, you can also add a scoop of coconut gelato (S$3.80 per scoop). The addition of gelato definitely enhances the flavour and texture of the drink, giving it a creamier and sweeter consistency.

Just in time for the festive season, Café Amazon has released two magical and frosty Christmas drinks — Iced Peppermint Mocha and Red Velvet Chocolate Frappé. These are available from 1 to 31 December 2019.

ICED PEPPERMINT MOCHA 

Minty, chocolatey and full of crunch, the Iced Peppermint Mocha (S$6.50) features a dark chocolate and mint blend that is embellished with chocolate malt crunch. This smooth, aromatic concoction leaves a lovely minty aftertaste in the mouth that’s reminiscent of Christmas and all its positive feelings.

RED VELVET CHOCOLATE FRAPPÉ

For those of you who aren’t huge fans of mint, you can opt to have their Red Velvet Chocolate Frappé ($6.50). Here, a dark chocolate frappe is spiced up with mixed berry sauce and then finished off with a copious sprinkling of chocolate malt crunch. The result is a winning sweet and sour combination that’ll tickle your taste buds.

Café Amazon doesn’t just specialise in drinks; they also have a menu featuring a variety of mains and desserts that pair amazingly well with their drinks. These are only sold in their Singapore stores.

WHOLEMEAL THAI CHICKEN WRAP 

If you’re constantly on the hunt for healthier food options, you need to try their Wholemeal Thai Chicken Wrap (S$5.90) that is also one of their best-selling menu items. Each wrap comes stuffed with chunks of juicy chicken leg that are smothered in Thai chilli sauce which gives this entire ensemble a lovely tangy and sweet touch.

BEEF LASAGNA 

For something a little heartier, get the Beef Lasagna (S$8.90). Its pasta layers are cooked to a nice al dente which holds the cheese and meat filling well. The acidity of the tomato sauce is also nicely balanced out with the savouriness of the beef and the creaminess of the cheese.

The lasagna is also available with chicken for those of you who do not fancy beef.

BLACK SESAME LAYER CAKE 

Nothing pairs quite as nicely with a cup of coffee as a plate of mouth-watering dessert. If chocolate and red velvet cakes are getting a little old and you’re looking to try something more unique and local-inspired, you should have a go at Café Amazon’s Black Sesame Layer Cake (S$6.90).

The cake essentially consists of fluffy black sesame sponge layers that are held together with silky caramelised sesame frosting and finished off with a scattering of toasted sesame seeds. Nutty, creamy and earthy, this cake truly is an innovative take on popular Chinese desserts such as black sesame soup.

NATIONAL TREASURE HIGH TEA SET 

Iindulge yourselves with Arteastiq Bistro’s new National Treasure High Tea Set (S$32 for 1 Pax, S$48 for 2 Pax), which is the perfect embodiment of Singapore’s rich and diverse multi-cultured food history.

This glorious display includes two speciality teas of your choice (not including their alcoholic range) and bites such as kueh pie tee with crab stick, rainbow kueh lapis, soft gula melaka with red bean and glutinous rice wrapped in spicy shrimp.

Our absolute favourite has to be the glutinous rice wrapped in spicy shrimp — dense, chewy and accompanied by a spicy kick, this small but fiery mouthful undoubtedly packs a mean punch.

SCRUMPTIOUS STARTERS 

Start off your feast with one of their enticing starters which include Cheese Tofu (S$9), Pan Seared Foie Gras (S$15) and Scallop Bruschetta (S$12). Out of the lot, our favourite is the Spicy Escargot (S$11) which consists of sauteed snails doused in a sauce made from chilli oil, garlic, cocktail onions and light cream.

HEARTY ASIAN MAINS 

Arteastiq Bistro’s extensive menu serves up a bountiful range of hearty, soul-comforting mains but out of them all, the ones that grabbed our attention were the Sambal Sea Bass with Dry Laksa (S$25) and Pan Roasted Satay Chicken Boneless Thigh (S$22).

Drenched in a tangy and fiery dried shrimp sambal chilli sauce, the fork-tender oven-baked sea bass had a decent amount of heated kick to it that didn’t overwhelm the palate.

The dry laksa, on the other hand, was aromatic and chewy with a slight zest to it that made it the perfect accompaniment to the sea bass.

Let’s take a moment to appreciate the Pan Roasted Satay Chicken Boneless Thigh, which features a succulent slab of chicken thigh that comes with a side of rice vermicelli, prawns, rice cake and a pot of fragrant peanut sauce.

Tender, moist and well-marinated, the chicken thigh proved to be a more elevated version of Singapore’s classic chicken satay. The rice vermicelli and satay sauce also served to add a nice variance in texture when eaten together with the chicken.

PASTAS TO LOVE

Get yourself a carbonora; their version is a sinful Truffle Carbonara (S$18). This bowl of goodness comprises unique tri-colour spaghetti that is drenched in a luxurious cream sauce and enhanced by the addition of black truffle, garlic, turkey bacon and parmesan cheese.

If cream-based pasta isn’t your cup of tea, you can opt for the Spicy Crayfish Spaghetti (S$16) which features two generous slabs of crayfish atop a bed of tri-coloured pasta that is tossed and sautéed with chilli oil, garlic, cocktail onion and light cream.

DECADENT DESSERTS 

Arteastiq Bistro has a range of decadent desserts that we’d gladly get fat for.

The Rainbow Kueh Lapis (S$12) is a whimsical take on the classic kueh lapis and is served with red beans and a scoop of ambrosial durian gelato. Dense, fragrant and addictively buttery, the kueh lapis pairs really well with the light and creamy durian gelato.

Another dessert to try is the Pandan Kaya Lava Cake (S$12) which is served with red beans and a sinful (but shiok) scoop of gula melaka gelato. Slice through the cake’s soft exterior and watch the viscous lava ooze out of the cake. The cake as a whole manages to be rich and saccharinely sweet without being too overwhelming and we appreciate how it tastes like authentic pandan and kaya.

AFTER DARK DELIGHTS (8pm – 10pm) 

If you’re a night owl, Arteastiq Bistro at Jewel Changi Airport offers an outlet-exclusive Mid-night Menu from 8pm to 10pm. Order yourself a brightly hued cocktail and enjoy the magnificent view of the majestic indoor waterfall from the comfort of your seat. Some cocktails that you can try are Flight Fantasy, Bewitching Grove and Dragon Gin & Tonic.

If you’re feeling peckish, get yourself some grub from their bar menu which includes savoury finger foods such as Salted Egg Fried Chicken Thigh (S$9), Beef Chilli Waffle Fries (S$12) and Prawn Paste Fried Squid (S$12).

Lo and behold, there is the Mid-night High Tea set at S$48 for 2.

The grandiose set comes with speciality tea for two, with a choice of an upgrade to a sharing cocktail or sangria for an additional S$20. We recommend upgrading your drink because that would mean that you can get yourself a massive sharing glass filled with your choice of alcoholic beverage and pearls; definitely not something you get to try every day!

Accompanying the drinks is an array of bite-sized treasures such as smoked salmon roulade with cream cheese and tobiko, truffle shell pasta, sweet potato fries with truffle oil and vol au vent with tuna and cheese.

If you’ve travelled to Japan before, you’d realise that some of the restaurants cycle their menus according to the four seasons. This is due to certain ingredients being more readily available than others during specific parts of the years.

JW360°, which stands for Japan Way Three Sixty, took this season-based concept and ingeniously transplanted it to ever-summer Singapore. Occupying a 486 square meter premise that can accommodate up to 140 seated patrons, JW360° is a concept store that consists of three operating divisions: JW360° Cafe, Suju Restaurant and a retail corner called Nomono.

As the focus of the store revolves around the four seasons, their menus and retail items here are switched up every few months, meaning that you will always have something new to look forward to.

Out of the many places around the world, they chose to set up their first outlet at the newly opened Jewel Changi Airport as they believe that this strategic location will enable them to connect with travellers from all around the world and allow them to provide everyone with the full Japanese experience. 

SUJU RESTAURANT 

JW360°’s restaurant segment is operated by Suju Masayuki, a notable Japanese restaurant that has over 200 years of rich history, seven stores in Japan and one store in Orchard, Singapore. The restaurant creates dishes based on the produce that is available in Japan according to the four seasons, so do expect a constantly changing menu!

Suju Restaurant is helmed by Head Chef Atsushi Yamakawa who was previously the Head Chef of Suju Restaurant in 2016. As Chef Yamakawa has had work experience in countries such as Australia, America and New Zealand, many of his dishes are infused with a unique western touch.

Based on his extensive knowledge of both Japanese and Western cuisines, the restaurant’s highlights include Yoshoku, which is essentially a western-influenced Japanese cuisine.

Some Yoshoku dishes to look forward to in the current season are the Hamburg Steak — an outrageously tender and thick beef patty which is glazed in a viscous miso demi-glace sauce. The robust sauce was a perfect complement to the patty and enhanced the umami of the whole dish.

The Mixed Katsu set comes with an assortment of pork, chicken, beef and shrimp croquette. Each crisp piece of katsu is fried to a gorgeous golden brown and every bite lets out a satisfying crunch.

Fish aficionados would appreciate the Gindara Misozuke Yaki, which is essentially a grilled miso-marinated codfish. Do not let its simple plating fool you; the codfish needs no other accompaniment and is absolutely ambrosial by itself. The fish is so insanely tender that it literally melts in your mouth!

JW360° CAFE 

For those of you who are looking for something a little lighter, pop over to JW360° Cafe to indulge yourselves in their decadent array of desserts and tea time treats.

Their gelato comes in an array of different flavours. We were told that it is a must to try their strawberry ice cream as it is made from Amao strawberries—deemed to be one of the highest grades of Japanese strawberries. These strawberries are so premium that they give the ice cream a naturally creamy texture and flavour without the addition of milk or cream.

As it is currently cherry blossom season in Japan, they have an entire selection of seasonal desserts dedicated to the well-loved flower. Prepare to spoil yourselves silly with some pretty pink desserts that don’t just look good for the ‘gram, but taste amazing too. We love their Sakura Cranberry Cakes!

We also recommend that you have a go at their matcha desserts which are made from high-quality matcha. Each and every one of these desserts has a rich, earthy flavour that has the perfect balance of bitterness and sweetness.

NOMONO RETAIL CORNER 

If you love Japanese snacks and trinkets but you have no money to fly all the way to Japan to get some, Nomono will be your saving grace. The retail corner is renowned for procuring snacks and souvenirs from all over Japan and they have three outlets within Tokyo, with Singapore being their first venture outside of Japan.

The colourful store is packed with an assortment of scrumptious, creatively packaged Japanese snacks and sweets. These amazing treats are bursting with flavours of Japanese origins reputably known as ‘Oyatsu Times’ which translates to ‘Japanese Snack Time’.

All the snacks and sweets available here hail from various prefectures across Japan and each of these is a representation of what their prefectures specialise in. We were recommended to get their zesty Apple Chips which consist of raw apples that have been air-fried to preserve its crispiness and natural apple flavour.

For the alcoholics out there, you’d be glad to know that there are also a variety of different sakes available. We love the ones that come in little glass jars that have detailed paintings on them; it makes for a perfect keepsake or a gift!

In celebration of the current sakura season in Japan, Nomono has also stocked up on a range of sakura-themed food items that are hard to resist. From pink-hued pasta shaped like sakura flowers to even sakura salt, you’ll definitely be left spoilt for choice!

Other highly recommended snacks include Hagi no Tsuki Custard Cake, a soft and fluffy sponge cake that is filled with custard cream. The dessert originates from Sendai, one of the largest Tohoku regions in Japan. This dessert is so popular that it would be considered a crime to go on a trip to Japan and not come back with a box of these.

We’ve waited long and we’ve waited hard for this very day and it is finally here.

The Famous American burger chain Shake Shack has FINALLY set foot on our sunny little island with their new outlet at Jewel Changi Airport. Done are our days of enviously scrolling through our social media platforms and seeing pictures of our friends enjoying one of Shake Shack’s juicy, lip-smackingly good burgers — now we can have them too!

Shake Shack Singapore’s menu is similar to the one in the US and South Korea with goodies such as ‘Shroom Burger, Shack-cago Dogs and of course, their signature ShackBurger. Aside from that, they also have some Singapore exclusive items such as pandan shakes and a mango dessert.

The spacious restaurant is beautifully decked out in Shake Shack’s signature urban concrete and wood decor that makes for an amazing backdrop to up your Instagram game. Adding on to the ambience is the magnificent view of Jewel’s breathtaking Forest Valley which features a lush assemble of plants that surround the much-anticipated 40m high Rain Vortex waterfall.

SHACKBURGER

Being Shake Shack’s quintessential menu item, the ShackBurger (S$9.20 Single, S$12.70 Double) is the perfect representation of the classic American burger.

Wedged between the buttered and griddled potato buns are a slice of American cheese, crisp lettuce, tomatoes and an insanely juicy beef patty that uses Shake Shack’s special The Shackblend. To complete the burger, all the varying elements are coated in a generous smothering of Shake Shack’s signature ShackSauce that is bitter, salty, smokey and spicy all at once. 

SHACK-CAGO DOG 

If you aren’t a fan of burgers but you still want to get in on all the action and hype, you can have a go at their Shack-cago Dog (S$6.50) instead. Dubbed as one of the best hot dogs in New York, this hot dog lives up to the title and provides diners with the ultimate hot dog experience.

Each hotdog here comes loaded with onions, cucumbers, pickles, tomatoes, peppers, mustard, celery salt, Rick’s Picks Shack Relish and of course, a thick, juicy hotdog.

‘SHROOM BURGER

For the vegetarians out there, fret not as Shake Shack has created their very special ‘Shroom Burger (S$10.80) just for you! Replacing the beef patty here is a crisp-fried portobello mushroom that is injected with an addictive concoction mix of Muenster and cheddar cheese. This glorious patty is then topped with lettuce and tomatoes and then further drenched in a generous amount of ShackSauce.

CLASSIC CRINKLE-CUT FRIES 

Nothing goes better with a burger than a side of fries and Shake Shack does up some of the best ones around. Their Crinkle-Cut Fries (S$4.50) are thick and have satisfyingly crisp ridges that give the fries a lovely bite to it. If you want to up your fries game, you can also have a go at their Cheese Fries (S$5.90) which features fries that are doused in a heavenly medley of melted cheddar and American cheese.

SINGAPORE EXCLUSIVE ITEMS

Aside from the classic Shake Shack offerings, you can also look out for items on their Singapore-exclusive menu.

Pandan lovers can get ready to indulge in their Pandan Shake (S$7.80) which features frozen vanilla custard that is blended with pandan and coconut and then topped with a generous serving of gula Melaka crumble. The drink is said to be inspired by popular local foods such as pandan chiffon cake, ondeh ondeh and kaya toast.

You can also tuck into the Jewel Melaka, which consists of Vanilla custard mixed with coconut salted caramel, chocolate chunks from local brand Lemuel, shortbread and gula Melaka. Similar to that, there is also It Takes Two To Mango, a dessert that was inspired by the very popular mango sago pudding.

For those of you who prefer something more chocolatey, you can also try the Shack Attack which features Chocolate custard mixed with brownies from local brand Plain Vanilla, Shack Fudge Sauce, Lemuel chocolate chunks and chocolate sprinkles.

With this week’s preview of Jewel Changi Airport, the hottest topic in local news and in conversations overheard in the commute to and fro from work has now reached fever pitch. Jewel is slated to officially open in just six more days on Wednesday, 17 April 2019.

Within Jewel’s distinctive dome-shaped facade of glass and steel is a 10-storey mega complex that houses 280 retails and food and beverage outlets. The beautifully designed structure, which combines a marketplace with an urban park, encapsulates Singapore as a garden city. It is directly connected to the Arrival Hall of Terminal 1 in Changi Airport and linked to Terminals 2 and 3 via air-conditioned link bridges.

Before you begin your countdown, let us add to your excitement with sneak peeks of what is to come. We included everything from attractions to explore, dining options for comfort eating, and all the retail therapy from shiny new shops that you can get.

ATTRACTIONS TO EXPLORE

Under its lattice dome-shaped roof, Jewel features a range of brilliant attractions. At its heart is the Rain Vortex and surrounding it is the Forest Valley which is a lush garden wonderland that boasts eternal spring.

FOREST VALLEY

The Shiseido Forest Valley brings the outdoors to the inside with a four-storey garden that houses 2500 trees and 60 000 shrubs from across the world.

RAIN VORTEX

Marvel at the heart of the Forest Valley as you take in the grandeur of the Rain Vortex. It is the world’s tallest indoor waterfall at 40 metres in height and forms the nucleus of Jewel.

By day, the mighty cascade mesmerises as it catches the sunlight. By night, it takes on mystic splendour with a light-and-sound show projected on the sheet on water.

Tip: Walk along the Canopy Bridge if you want to see it up close.

PETAL GARDEN AND TOPIARY WALK

At the top floor of Jewel is the Canopy Park which will only open in mid-2019. Within it are two gardens to look forward to. The Petal Garden boasts flamboyant seasonal blossoms while the Topiary Walk features photo-friendly animal topiaries.

FOGGY BOWLS

Play in puffs of clouds and hide away in gentle bowls of mist. Kids will love the chance to play in this dreamy setting and let their imagination take flight.

HEDGE MAZES

Pull on comfortable shoes for a field day weaving your way through Singapore’s largest hedge maze. Get a bird’s eye view of the maze’s intricate windings when you reach the watch tower at its core.

WALKING NET

Balance your way through an adventure. The Walking Net is suspended across a void, giving you one walk you won’t forget. A taut web 25 metres above ground affords an indescribable sensation of lightness.

DINING OPTIONS FOR COMFORT EATING

A&W is open round the clock with a menu that is “the first of its kind in Asia”. It features over 25 items, including a Cream Cheese Burger from Okinawa along with their bestselling coney dogs and curly fries.

For those who are not familiar with Burger & Lobster, its rustic, yet luxurious concept is fairly straightforward—diners choose among three options on the menu that see the likes of burger, lobster, and lobster roll. Casual dining restaurant Kenny Rogers Roasters is closing its last outlet at Great World City this Sunday, April 14. We will miss them for their rotisserie roasted chicken and variety of hot and cold side dishes.

The management, Pacific Utama Pte Ltd, put up a notice at the entrance to their last outlet that the end of this week will be their last day serving customers. The announcement also thanked everyone for their “patronage all these years”.

The American restaurant opened here in 1994 and has quietly closed several outlets over the last couple of years.

Kenny Rogers Roasters is a chain that started in the USA, co-founded by country music star Kenny Rogers. Their first outlet in Singapore opened in Suntec City.

They hold a special place in our hearts because we have been visiting them since we were kids. While they are synonymous with their rotisserie chicken, the Mac & Cheese—served as a side—is something that we will sorely miss. As with the corn muffin.

What fond memories we have; it is one restaurant that we’ve dined at since we were eligible for student meals.

While they are leaving with some of our favourite spots such as Chili’s and Pablo which have also recently closed, we will remain hopeful that they will make a comeback as with A&W.

Fresh Fruits Lab—one of our favourite cafes in Singapore—will be opening their third concept outlet called Herit8ge at Jewel Changi Airport. Conceptualised with the idea of reminiscing the yesteryears while paying homage to local flavours, Herit8ge will be dishing out local favourites with interesting and modern twists.

Herit8ge draws inspiration from the 70s and their rustic interior and porcelain kitchenware exude subtle nostalgic touches that will take you back in time to the heydays.

Their extensive menu features a diverse array of familiar local dishes with unique twists such as Hainanese Cordon Bleu, Charsiu-licious, Peranakan Lamb Burger and British Fish & Chips.

What we truly are looking forward to is The Empress Pasta, which consists of king prawns coated in butter cereal that are tossed in a cream-based spaghetti and then finally topped with fried mantou, cereal crumbs, curry leaves and chilli padi.

The popular artisanal bakery and patisserie Lavender from Johor Bahru is finally crossing over the causeway to set up shop on our sunny little island. The opening is slated to be 17 April 2019 at Jewel Changi Airport.

Founded way back in 2000, they have come a long way since then and have expanded from a humble bakery to a cafe, bistro and restaurant business. They will be opening up just a bakery here in Singapore for the time being.

Lavender is well-known for its desserts and cakes that are made from Japanese and French pastry making techniques. The result is premium quality confectioneries that are an absolute treat to the senses.

The food here is a fusion between modern European, French, Italian and Japanese cuisines so you can expect to sink your teeth into a number of unique creations that you won’t be able to find anywhere else. They also have a pretty extensive array of drinks to go along with your pastries and cakes.

So, get ready to indulge yourselves in some really high-quality desserts and pastries!

Perennial local favourite Rich & Good Cake Shop is finally opening its second outlet. Joining the big names in the likes of Shake Shack and Burger & Lobster who are all going to be Jewel Changi Airport, Rich & Good Cake Shop has announced that they will be present at the next it place for food.

While we all rejoice at the sheer number of F&B options that are going to be at Jewel Changi Airport, can we all take a moment to celebrate the fact that this homegrown bakery is finally expanding beyond its retro-looking shop on Kandahar Street?

Little is known about its second outlet, but one thing’s for sure—since its operations in 1997, their swiss rolls are well-loved and we can definitely get our fix from the Jewel Changi Airport outlet.

There is an array of flavours for their swiss rolls, but the two flavours, however, responsible for their claim to fame are their Kaya Swiss roll and Durian Swiss roll.

Swirled with pandan-infused kaya, the Kaya Swiss roll is, without a doubt, one of our all-time favourites. The sweet aroma of pandan, coupled by the semi-sweet coconut jam filling makes this modest-looking Swiss roll just the best tea time snack.

Encased within a soft, durian-accented roll is a cream filling mixed with creamy durian. The ratio between durian cream to sponge cake is perfect, such that neither of them overwhelms the other. The roll is sweet but is nicely balanced out by a subtle saltiness in the cream itself.

Perhaps, we can look forward to new flavours at its second outlet. And perhaps, there would be an extension of products.

We are definitely psyched for their opening, and the next time we visit friends who are living overseas, we will definitely drop by Jewel Changi Airport to pick up some confectionery so that our friends can have a taste of home.

Jewel Changi Airport is slated to open in Singapore on 17 April and it’s 10 storeys high with over 300 retail and dining facilities to wow you. It a combo of a giant urban park with an enormous marketplace.

Consecutively awarded the ‘World’s Best Airport’ for its sixth year in 2018—the first time in the history of the awards—, Changi Airport dubs itself as ‘an airport worthy of being a destination in itself’ for good reason. 

Jewel Changi Airport will be Singapore Changi Airport’s newest addition and unmistakably one of the most highly-anticipated openings in our city. Opening on 17 April 2019, this complex will house some of the world’s biggest f&b brands such as popular American burger franchise Shake Shack, A&W and London’s famous Burger & Lobster.

Before the official opening, a public preview will be held from 11 to 16 April 2019 for everyone to have a sneak peek. A total of about 500,000 free tickets will be available and it will run in four three-hour time blocks from 10am to 10pm daily.

The 14,000 sq m Canopy Park—located on the top floor of Jewel Changi Airport—is not available and it will be open to the public only in the middle of the year.

Here’s what you can expect to find in Jewel Changi Airport!

The 10-storey complex will cover a gross floor area of 134,000 meters square and will comprise a whole range of play attractions for both kids and adults alike, a variety of popular restaurants and retail brands.

To date, more than 90% of their retail space has already been occupied by big brands, including NYC’s famous Shake Shack and sportswear giant Nike. Whether you’re looking for international cuisines or local fare or even a place to sit down and sip on a pint of beer, this new mall has covered it all.

A&W

After having left our sunny shores 10 years ago, we thought that the popular American fast food chain A&W will be gone for good. Good news to fans of their famous root beer float, waffles and curly fries—A&W will be re-opening in Singapore as one of the tenants in Jewel Changi Airport!

BURGER & LOBSTER

Those who have travelled to London should be familiar with Burger & Lobster, London’s famous lobster roll restaurant. Known for its rustic yet luxurious concept, the brand’s Singapore outpost will include new dishes that are inspired by local flavours, alongside their signature lobster rolls and burgers.

EL FUEGO BY COLLIN’S®

Good news to our Muslim friends—well-known Western chain, COLLIN’S, will be opening a branch that specialises in halal European cuisine at Jewel Changi Airport. Branded as El Fuego, diners can tuck into the edible likes of steak, oysters, seafood and more here!

Consistently ranked among the top chocolate brands in Switzerland, Läderach has been around since 1962 and now has 65 outlets across Switzerland, Germany, the Middle East and Asia. Promising the use of top-quality cocoa beans, their handmade chocolates will be air-flown and sold in their new outlet in Jewel Changi Airport come end-March.

PINK FISH

A Norwegian brand, Pink Fish is a salmon-centric restaurant that focuses heavily on sustainability. Using solely fresh Norwegian salmon, the restaurant aims to serve as a wholesome, healthy alternative to fast-food restaurants and their outlet at Jewel Changi Airport will its first ever outlet outside of Norway. Here you can expect a variety of salmon dishes in the form of burgers, wraps, hot pots and salads!

POKEMON CENTRE

The world’s only Pokémon Centre outside of Japan is set to open in Singapore at Jewel Changi Airport next year. As with every Pokémon Centre, you can expect to find seasonal and regional exclusive toys, stationery, trading cards, jewellery and even chopsticks! In addition, this outlet will be selling Pikachu plushies in pilot and cabin crew uniform, which are only available exclusively in Singapore!

SHAKE SHACK

Since its humble beginnings as a hot dog stand in Madison Square Park, Shake Shack is currently one of the most well-known fast food chains in the world, operating 136 locations internationally. The fast-food brand will be making its debut in Singapore’s Jewel Changi Airport and will be having the same menu as Shake Shack in the US and South Korea.

TIGER STREET LAB

Sip on some local beer whilst touring the new mall with homegrown beer brand, Tiger Beer. The local brand will be unveiling a first-in-the-world concept in Jewel, Tiger Street Lab which will feature both F&B and retail elements. Look forward to Tiger’s usual range of beers as well as exclusive-to-Jewel seasonal brews and pair them with some of Singapore’s street food which will also be available on Tiger Street Lab’s menu.

RETAIL STORES

Besides the myriad of dining destinations, Jewel Changi Airport will also host numerous retail brands where you can shop till you drop and get some retail therapy.

Of which, sportswear giant Nike will be opening a 1000 square meter store, its largest outlet in Southeast Asia. Local, homegrown brands such as Naiise and Supermama will also be introducing first-of-its-kind concepts for their stores in Jewel as part of Changi Airport’s efforts to introduce Singaporean brands to the rest of the world.

Singapore? I choose you!

The world’s only Pokémon Centre outside of Japan is set to open in Singapore at Jewel Changi Airport next year. As with every Pokémon Centre, you can expect to find seasonal and regional exclusive toys, stationery, trading cards, jewellery and even chopsticks!

This follows a positive response from a Pokémon event held at Changi Airport in 2016. It’s safe to say considering how we absolutely love Pikachu mascot appearances from events like Natsu Matsuri, Pokémon pop-up cafes, Pokémon Run and the surprising enthusiasm of those who still play Pokémon Go!, that we would absolutely love having a Pokémon Centre here in Singapore too.

Longtime connoisseurs and fans would be elated to know they no longer have to travel out of the country—whether to Japan for their Pokémon Centres or even Hong Kong for their Pokémon Hub—just to get their favourite Pokémons now!

Apart from the Pokémon Centre, you can also expect many more shops and brands to open alongside them when Jewel Changi Airport opens its doors next years. Other popular names include Shake Shack, A&W, Pink Fish, Nike, Naiise and more. Jewel Changi Airport will also feature Singapore’s largest indoor garden; known as “Forest Valley”, as well as a 40-metre tall indoor waterfall.

Excited? So are we! While we still await more news regarding the Pokémon Centre’s eventual opening date, we know for sure we definitely won’t be disappointed.
