Popular brunch & dessert cafe, Lola’s Cafe is opening a second outlet in Holland Village and the official opening date is set on 20 July 2022.

Known for its brunch fare and desserts, Lola’s Cafe started as a neighbourhood cafe in the Kovan neighbourhood and it remains a go-to brunch spot for residents in the vicinity.

Lola’s Cafe Holland Village will be taking over the unit at 48 Lorong Mambong.

Holland Village and Chip Bee Gardens have no lack of coffee shops and cafes and some of the other options in the enclave Craftsmen Specialty Coffee, Kyushu Pancake Cafe, Two Men Bagel House, Tiong Bahru Bakery, %Arabica Coffee, Baker & Cook, Sunday Folks and Keong Saik Bakery.

The new outlet at Holland Village has a similar menu of brunch, pasta, coffee and desserts. You can find the crowd-favourite dishes such as Crab Cake Benedict, Miso Salmon Grain Bowl, and Tuscan Seafood Stew.

Foreword Coffee Roasters is a coffee chain and social enterprise which serves speciality coffee from Asia, while training and hiring persons with disabilities and special needs in their coffee kiosks to spread more awareness and empower the differently-abled in Singapore.

Foreword Coffee Roasters has opened its 5th outlet at Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music in National University of Singapore (NUS). But before you make a trip there, do note that the gorgeous coffee shop is currently open to NUS staff and students only.

Foreword Coffee Roasters serves a myriad of coffee drinks and a few signature concoctions. In addition to these cuppas, they also offer rice bowls, waffles, pastries and cakes at the new outlet.

One of Foreword Coffee Roasters’s signature drinks is the Timeless Yuan Yang (S$6.50). A ristretto shot of their Yunnan Ouyang coffee blend with an Earl Grey tea ice ball blends perfectly with milk.

The first sip brought out the bright flavour of the Earl Grey instantly and as it faded on your tastebuds, the fruity yet bitter note of the Yunnan Ouyang Coffee could be tasted. It was an excellent modern rendition of the traditional Yuan Yang.

Foreword Coffee Roasters’s next signature drink, the 70% Dark Chocolate (S$6.50), was a delight to drink. This would be perfect for those who enjoy a milkier hot chocolate drink but want that rich chocolate aroma.

The new space is using upcycled furniture—made of milk bottles and caps—which are made by sustainability partners with different expertise that turn waste into gems.

To further reduce waiting time, self-collection at UTown is available for NUS staff and students now, throughout this Phase 2 (HA)! Collection timings are from 12pm – 2pm with a minimum order of S$20.

SUNDAY FOLKS

Following the success of Creamier at Toa Payoh, Sunday Folks is another desserts venture opened at the West of Singapore – a small ice-cream and waffles shop in Chip Bee Gardens, just across the road from Holland Village. The iconic square waffles are served with soft serve ice cream (6 flavours to choose from). TWO WHEELS GOOD 

Two Wheels Good is a bicycle-themed café sitting in between Boon Lay MRT station and Jurong Point. With Hong Kong BBQ, Teochew Mee, local beverages, Kaya Toast and even booze on their menu, it is certainly a nice fusion of both traditional and western.

If you are a frequent biker or have your weekends reserved for bike-riding, do drop by this cosy café to purchase some bicycle accessories or just a hearty breakfast if bike-riding is not quite up your alley.

One of the oldest coffee roasteries in Singapore, Suzuki Gourmet Coffee has been offering a wide selection of roasted gourmet coffee since they were founded in 1979. In an effort to further reach the masses, they’ve recently branched out to offer their fragrant cups of coffee at their very own Suzuki Cafe and Roastery.

Located right next to their main headquarters in Chin Bee Avenue, Suzuki Cafe and Roastery is set up on the second floor of an adjoining white building.

Opened just this past July, this fairly new cafe is the company’s first step to providing the public an opportunity to experience, and taste a cup of the Suzuki coffee blend first hand.

Upon arrival at the cafe, we were confused by the display of coffee machines on the first level but once we took the stairs up to the second level, we were greeted by a comfortable space with artistic coffee-themed murals and the strong aroma of coffee wafting through the area.

On our visit, we ordered a Hot Cappuccino (S$3) and an Iced Cold Brew (S$4).

Made using their exclusive Suzuki coffee blend, which is available exclusively at the cafe, our Hot Cappuccino contained espresso extracted from their impressive-looking Gaggia machine and finished with an adorable latte art.

Even before we tasted the cappuccino, we noted the warm and nutty fragrance it carried which added anticipation to our actual tasting of the coffee.

Without adding any form of sugar, our cup of cappuccino came across strong with the milk helping to create a more pronounced flavour that had a slight bitter aftertaste.

On the other hand, our first few sips of the Cold Brew gave us an earthy taste which later transitioned into one with a more citrusy note, thanks to the addition of the orange slice.

We did find that the cold brew possessed a full-bodied taste, which had evident bitter notes that could be slightly too bitter to some.

Though the folks at Suzuki Cafe and Roastery are still working on conceptualising a food menu, we find that their affordable and delicious cups of coffee are still worth the trip alone.

Taking over local bakery Prima Deli’s long-time spot in Clementi is One Stone Three Birds. The humble ice cream cafe serves homemade gelato at affordable price points. As there aren’t many speciality dessert cafes in Clementi, One Stone Three Birds might be well on its way to being the go-to ice cream place in central Clementi.

The shop is run by a husband and wife duo, passionate to find new flavours and infusions for their ice cream. Check out what we thought about this new ice cream shop!

Located just a short walk from Clementi MRT, right behind Clementi Mall, is One Stone Three Birds. Just newly opened in August, this new ice cream shop has drawn in quite a bit of an audience as a new dessert spot in this highly-populated area.

Boasting peach-pink walls and funky decor, One Stone Three Birds makes eating ice cream a picture-perfect opportunity.

We ordered a double scoop of their Salted Caramel and Black Sesame Ice Cream (S$7), accompanied by their chocolate-batter Waffle Sticks (S$3).

Their Salted Caramel ice cream was indulgent and very delicious, being a good blend of salty and sweet. We did notice a few bites of ice cream being a little more salty than we’d like but it was still good nonetheless.

We absolutely loved their Black Sesame ice cream. It was smoky and had a distinct flavour of black sesame, dotted with roasted sesame seeds for a nice textural contrast. Its sweetness was perfectly balanced out by the roasted aroma from the sesame!

Their waffle sticks, made with a waffle iron that had churro-shaped moulds, were crisp on the outside yet moist on the inside. As they were not too sweet, they complemented the ice creams impeccably well.
