Popular French bakery, The Lunar Rabbit Boulangerie is opening a new cafe in Tanjong Katong to serve the residents in the East of Singapore.

Known for its rich cultural heritage, diverse community, and a thriving food scene with popular food spots including Supernova, Little Rogue Coffee, Punggol Nasi Lemak, Tanjong Katong is a charming neighborhood on the eastern side of Singapore.

The Lunar Rabbit Boulangerie is the latest addition to the enclave and it is located at 350 Tanjong Katong Road, along the same stretch as Little Rogue Coffee. It will be soft opening to the public on 22 Jul 2023 at 11am.

Established at 16 Hamilton Road in May 2022, The Lunar Rabbit Boulangerie just celebrated her first anniversary not long ago.

Unlike their original location which is just a takeaway space, the new outlet in Tanjong Katong will be a full-fledged cafe with a capacity of 40 pax and it will be offering hot dishes, drinks, pastries and desserts.

Specialising in viennoiserie—the ‘bridge’ between pâtisserie and French bread—The Lunar Rabbit Boulangerie dishes out amazing bakes fresh from the oven every day.

The Lunar Rabbit Boulangerie’s Classic French Croissant is excellent. It is light and airy on the inside and crispy on the outside. Definitely one of the best croissants we’ve had in Singapore. We also love their Almond Croissant and Kouign-amann.

The Lunar, a crescent-shaped croissant, is The Lunar Rabbit Boulangerie’s iconic pastry and a must-try when you are here. Filled with Masarpone mousse and chocolate ganache made of Valrhona Manjari Dark 64% Cocoa, The Lunar tastes as good as it looks.

The little ones will definitely love the Bunny Madeline (S$5) which comes in the form of a cute bunny.

Salt bread is all the rage in Japan and South Korea right now and we are thrilled to see it here. Topped with truffle salt, the Lunar Rabbit Boulangerie’s rendition is as soft as it should be, and it comes with a generous helping of truffle paste and butter.

On to the hot dishes that you can find at The Lunar Rabbit Boulangerie. The Croissant with Turkey Ham and Scrambled Eggs (S$16.80) was disappointing as the scrambled eggs were overcooked, but we would definitely recommend the Croque Madame (S$13.80) which came with a cube pastry as the base for this dish.

The hot dishes include a regular hot drink.

An exclusive item to the new outlet, the Croissant Ice Cream is definitely one for the gram and perfect for the hot weather.

If you love cinnamon buns, you have to get your hands on these beauties.

Good Chai People is a new Chai cafe specialising in handmade artisanal sticky chai and they will be opening at East Coast Road on 24 Sep 2022.

Located along 225 East Coast Road—the same stretch where you can find other popular cafes in the east of Singapore including Neptune, Project Acai, Brawn & Brains, and Plain Vanilla—Good Chai People

Canopy Garden Dining is opening a third outlet at Changi City Point with a pet-friendly al fresco dining garden concept.

Canopy Garden Dining outlet at Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park has been around for years and it is a popular hangout for families and friends.

PETIT PAIN

Newly opened in August 2019, Petit Pain specialises in bread and pastries such as croissants, danishes and escargot rolls.

The humble bakery has a simple display counter with all their freshly-baked goods lined up neatly behind a glass case. Stepping into the space, the immediate smell of butter and bread tantalized our tastebuds, enticing us toward the golden-brown goodies.

PRODIGAL CAFE

If the name Prodigal Café seems to ring a bell, that’s because the eatery is the sister café of the now-defunct Prodigal Roasters which used to be located in the heartlands of Ang Mo Kio.

Now, the charming little café resides in a tiny space underneath a HDB block at Macpherson Lane, where it is home to yummy sandwiches, toasties and speciality coffee. We recommend the Poh’s Egg Mayo and Prodigal Grilled Cheese!

Lucid is a new addition to the cafes in Lavender that serves artisanal coffee and pastries in a comforting and cosy setting. If you’re on the hunt for a quiet place to work or a place for good conversations, Lucid will fit the bill perfectly.

Its quiet ambience and clean aesthetic completely won us over. Kickstart your day at this cafe which offers a quick caffeine fix for coffee junkies or sweet treats for dessert addicts. Good vibes guaranteed.

This minimalistic cafe with mainly grey cement tones had a modern industrial design that was aesthetically pleasing with beautiful natural lighting that entered the space. You’d definitely be able to capture some good pictures for the gram!

We do not need to travel to JB just for Hiap Joo Bakery anymore because Lucid’s Banana Bread (S$3.50) won our hearts with its dense and immense banana flavours. It had the right amount of sweetness along with slight notes of savouriness from the butter. Undoubtedly one of the best banana breads we’ve had so far.

They have other in-house bakes like brownies and cakes that are made fresh daily at the open-concept kitchen situated in the cafe as well.

Served in a cute glass, the Iced White (S$6) comes with two shots of espresso, cold milk and ice. An antidote for sunny days indeed, the coffee had a nutty aroma with a bitter profile, hitting the right spot when in search of a good cuppa.

This mellow cup of coffee made a good pair with the Banana Bread available amongst their bakes.

On a rainy day or not, a cup of hot Chocolate (S$5) will warm your soul and soothe your heart. Aromatic flavours of the semi-sweet cocoa layered our tongues concomitantly with the velvety and creamy consistency, we did not want to put the cup down. This is a perfect drink for those who are in search of caffeine-free options.

Though they offer a small menu, we will definitely be back to Lucid for their up to snuff drinks and pastries!

Hasten your footsteps and visit this cafe pronto because they are operating with a tipping-only system for their soft launch until 31 January 2020.

If you’re in the mood for some freshly-baked buttery, crisp croissants and pastries, you’re in luck because we’ve found a bakery nestled in Joo Chiat that serves just that.

Established in August 2019, Petit Pain specialises in bread and pastries such as croissants, danishes and escargot rolls. Check out what we had from this cosy bakery and our thoughts on their bakes!

The humble bakery has a simple display counter with all their freshly-baked goods lined up neatly behind a glass case. Stepping into the space, the immediate smell of butter and bread tantalized our tastebuds, enticing us toward the golden-brown goodies.

If you’d like to have your pastries at the store, they do have a few tables and chairs to sit and relax while you munch!

We first tried their Classic Croissant. This seemingly-simple pastry was definitely the highlight of our trip down. Taking a painstaking 3 days to make, this croissant is certainly a labour of love we enjoyed to the fullest.

We loved how the pastry had a slight saltiness from the sea salt added to it. It was certainly one of the best croissants we have ever tried in Singapore.

We also had the Orange Chocolate Escargot, a flaky twist of puff pastry chocked full of Orange Confit and Dark Chocolate. Orange and chocolate are a classic pairing and it could not have been emphasized better than in such a decadent pastry.

It’s really nice that we don’t have to simply dream about heading to Paris for some really good pastries and croissants when there are such amazing options available at home!

As one of the first few ice cream shops in Tampines, residents of the East be familiar with them! The cafe is extremely popular with students so you can expect the cafe to be packed after school hours.

A single scoop of their ice cream costs S$3 while double scoops are going at S$5.80. Ice Cream Skool also rotates their ice cream flavours and come up with new creations on a frequent basis.

Started off as a 24-hour laundromat, Laundry Galley is the first laundry-themed cafe in Singapore that opened in September last year.

At Laundry Galley, they offer a Half-Half Waffle Set, consisting of classic & charcoal flavoured waffle. They even installed a live laundry tracking service in the cafe for customers to know the status of their washer in the laundromat.

Situated just a stone’s throw away from the ever-so-popular Blk 85 Fengshan Food Centre at Bedok North is a newly-opened carnival-themed café, Sir Stamford Waffles, which serves waffles, ice cream, coffee and more.

Do not be confused by the name of this café—Sir Stamford Raffles did not open this café—but rather, the people behind Hatter Street Bakehouse and Café did.

Essentially a carnival-themed café, Sir Stamford Waffles is well-furnished and boasts a bright and colourful interior with huge posters with whimsical illustrations on their walls. The space in the café was small and can fit just 4-5 groups of people, but they have seats outside too.

Sir Stamford Waffles bear great similarity to their sister café in terms of their range of desserts and coffee, but with a twist of local flavours, as their name suggests. Specialising in waffles, they offered several noteworthy signature waffle sets such as The Miraculous Merlion (S$15.90) and the Kopi Kusu (S$15.90).

They serve coffee and tea too, perfect for those just looking for something to sip on in Sir Stamford Waffles whilst escaping the glaring heat!

We opted for the Pulau Unikorn Signature Waffle Set (S$14 nett), which came with 2 signature waffles, 1 scoop of Lavender Blackberry Ice Cream, 1 scoop of Toasted Marshmallow Ice Cream and of course, unicorn accessories.

As they were out of the Toasted Marshmallow Ice Cream on our visit, we opted for the Strawberry Cheesecake flavour instead. Both the lavender blackberry and strawberry cheesecake flavours were delightful to have with the waffles, as they were neither overwhelmingly sweet nor sour.

The waffles were extremely crispy and light, but we would have preferred if the waffles had a more fluffy texture to it. However, the waffles were not too sweet, making it a great complement to the ice cream.

With plenty of cafés serving waffles with ice cream coming forth in Singapore, Sir Stamford Waffles does not stand out in any particular way.

We wouldn’t go all the way to Bedok for Sir Stamford Waffles, but should you be around the east of Singapore and looking for somewhere to curb your waffle and ice cream cravings, you can consider dropping by.
