Fries are something that everybody loves.

McDonald’s may set the benchmark for French fries, but here are 14 places in Singapore that sell pretty solid fries—have fun indulging!

Bringing its signature West Coast flavour to Singapore, 25 Degrees Burgers & Liquor Bar is a gourmet American burger joint from Los Angeles which serves up a myriad of gourmet burgers, milkshakes, beer and wine at reasonable prices and is even rumoured to be a cult favourite among many Hollywood stars.

Their burgers may be their main stars, but let’s not forget the supporting roles as well, namely their Curly Fries. These glorious bad boys are much better than your average fast-food joint version.

Chicken Up’s beef bulgogi fries deserve endless praises. Who knew that beef slices and french fries could go so well together? Think thin slices of marinated beef and mayonnaise on top of piping hot, crispy fries. We love the balance between the sweetness of the mayonnaise and the saltiness from the beef slices.

A humble burger joint opened by the folks behind Carvers & Co, Wolf Burgers has, over the last few years, risen through the ranks to become a popular choice among burger aficionados all over Singapore.

The brand is famous for a few things, but more notably for their affordable prices and undeniably delicious burgers.

This no-frills burger joint puts out some scrumptious, meat-packed options, with most items on the menu priced below S$10. And before you begin comparing them to any ordinary fast-food restaurant, let us assure you that the quality and satisfaction that Wolf Burgers guarantees go far beyond your average happy meal.

If you’re a first-timer, perhaps it would not be a bad idea to start yourself off with their signature Wolf Burger (S$9.90). This anything-but-basic burger comprises a freshly ground beef patty with cheddar, sweet onions, lettuce, tomatoes and pickles in their house-made sesame seed bun.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

Our patty was beautifully cooked, achieving the perfect medium-rare. During the cooking, the cooks press the patties down hard against the griddle to achieve a deep and even crust, all while expertly flipping and timing each one to ensure that every patty is done just right.

What we particularly enjoyed about the Wolf Burger, despite it being so simple and ordinary, was the fact that neither one of the ingredients were overly assertive, allowing us to truly appreciate the quality of the beef.

Every burger here is fully customisable, so feel free to exclude or include whatever you want from the type of cheese to their wide selection of toppings. We requested for some pickled gherkins to be added as well as we wanted something acidic to cut through the richness of the beef and melted cheese.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

Light and fluffy butter pancakes come served with fresh berries and Chantilly cream. Each bite is a mouthful of pure decadence; the fresh berries give the dish a subtle tartness that is sure to perk anyone up and the buttery pancakes were fluffy yet incredibly moist.

For our choice of pasta, we went for the Truffled Blackbeard (S$18). The dish comprises squid ink pasta beautifully tossed together in a truffle-infused mushroom and bacon cream sauce and is served with grilled prawns and crushed walnuts.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

We thought that the use of walnuts was a nice touch as it gave the dish a refreshing crunch. The prawns were grilled beautifully giving it a nice, mildly charred taste and the flesh was firm yet tender.

We found the cream sauce a tad bit rich and albeit being a truffle-based sauce, we struggled to detect any trace of truffle. We would have much preferred if the truffle flavour was boosted as it would have added a nice touch of umami to the dish.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

All in all, we were truly marvelled by the ambience and the splendid service rendered to us at EagleWings Loft. Although the food itself could afford some room for improvement, we were pretty satisfied with our experience here and we will definitely return to try their other dishes.

As it is the restaurant’s first week of operations, many items on the menu are still unavailable, so unless you plan on having brunch or simply a coffee, we recommend dropping by EagleWings Loft in a week or two once they have gotten a more stable footing.

Opus Bar & Grill is an intimate and modern grill restaurant which also happens to serve some of the best steaks in Singapore. Located on the ground floor of Hilton Singapore, the restaurant’s secret recipe in divine meat lies in its specially commissioned Himalayan salt tile dry-aging cabinet, charcoal grill, and the usage of only excellent prime cuts and high-quality ingredients.

Executive Chef Vijay and his culinary team mean business when it comes to meat. From the way that each individual cut is treated—from the aging process right down to the actual cooking—we know that we can always depend on them for a quality steak feast every time!

We went down recently to sample the new menu and we can’t wait to share our dining experiences with you! With any order of Opus steak, enjoy 2-hour free-flow red, white and sparkling wines from 7pm to 9pm (Sundays to Thursdays) and 50% off on selected wine by the bottle (Frdays & Saturdays).

Quote “LIC80OPUS” upon making reservations to enjoy 1 complimentary signature dessert (limited for the first 80 bookings). You have the option of either the Charcoal Grilled Banana or the Grilled Honey Pineapple Dessert.

The fact that Opus Bar & Grill is situated in a 5-star hotel like Hilton Singapore may seem rather daunting to most, but contrary to what you may think, prices for premium steaks here are actually incredibly affordable!

Considering that the most affordable option of steak begins at only S$58++, that amount coupled with the unlimited amount of wines is a great deal in itself.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

On top of that, you can choose from a selection of flavoured salts, sauces and delectable side orders to go with the steak, although honestly, the grilled-to-perfection steak is more than capable to hold its own.

The flavoured salts include paprika, lava, and rosemary. The paprika was a hot favourite as it provided a heightened intensity of smoke which complemented the grilled porterhouse really well. The sauces include green peppercorn, bone marrow with red wine sauce, and a decadent béarnaise sauce.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

The former has been a longstanding favourite among its regulars, while the latter is a relatively new dish that has been no less popular. We like that that it is topped off with a sunny side-up, because simple goodness like this always works.

If none of these unique burgers appeal to you, opt for their classic beef burgers. Those with bigger appetites should order the Double Decker (S$11.90/ala-carte, S$14.90/meal), which is essentially a juicy double patty beef burger stuffed with melting cheese and other goodness. It is worth mentioning that despite being a fast food restaurant, the buns and sauces are all handmade.

On to the sweets. We always save some space for desserts, yes?

EwF is not just a destination for burgers, or fries for that matter. Their desserts are so impressive that we dare say they are truly worth the extra calories. The highly acclaimed Nutella Tart with Ice Cream (S$8.90) – another original creation by Everything With Fries – consists of rich pure Nutella filling with Nutella glaze over an oreo biscuit crumb-based tart, still tasted as good as the ones we had in yesteryears. Yipe, we have been fans since Day One.

The Browned Butter Sugee Cake (S$6.90) is an interesting adaptation of the local brown sugar sponge cake. Light and with a surprising crisp texture on the top, the sweet slice of cake is covered with almond streusels and coated in browned butter fudge. It is a definite must-try, and we actually found ourselves caught in between this and the Nutella Tart. Can we just have the best of both worlds? You won’t judge us, right?

Last but not least, the Nutella Crepe (S$6.90) is an exclusive treat to EwF. A millefeuille-like nutella pastry with twenty alternating layers of paper-thin chocolate crepes and nutella cream filling, this is not as decadent as Nutella Tart, so if you still want your Nutella fix, this makes a great alternative.

Need more to satisfy that nutella obsession of yours? Indulge further with a cup of Hot Nutella (S$5.90/regular, S$6.90/large).

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

Otherwise, we say give the Katong Jelly (S$4.50) a go! It is a concoction of pink lemonade and fresh agar-agar jelly that are made and “grated” in-house daily.

For the uninitiated, Katong Jelly is a long-lost Katong drink which disappeared from Singapore about 20 years ago. The good people at Everything With Fries wanted to bring back the nostalgic taste of Katong so they went on a quest around the neighbourhood to ask the old residents about the drink.

What makes a good plate of fries? There are many attributes and factors, but we believe that as long as your fries are so good that you cannot stop munching on them until the plate or bowl is wiped clean, then they are helluva great fries. You know, like how after an almost ethereal first bite and you are hooked. Forever.

The best fries can be pretty easy to spot – glistening golden sticks, deep-fried to perfection. Perfection comes in the form of a warm fluffy centre and a crisp and tasty outer layer. Yes, we kid you not – we worship fries, but only because they make us happier people.

We thank all Heavens for the many places in Singapore that serve an amazing plate of fries with different varieties to choose from. Here are our picks of the 14 Best Fries You Can Find in Singapore that are worth the calories!

ARTEASTIQ – SWEET POTATO FRIES

Good sweet potato fries are hard to come by and the best ones can be underrated, such as the Sweet Potato Fries with Horseradish (S$12) from Arteastiq. Thick cut and lightly seasoned, this jar of goodness is filled with golden brown sticks that are moist and fluffy on the inside, with just the right amount of salt and crisp on the outside.

COOK & BREW – POUTINE FRIES

This Canadian-inspired dish will satisfy both meat-lovers and hardcore fans of fries. Shoestring fries are topped off with a generous lump of pulled pork, cheese and gravy made from the popular Strongbow apple cider. Although it isn’t a local dish, The Poutine “Eh” (S$16) certainly won our hearts over.

There are not many places in Singapore where you can find authentic Poutine—a Canadian dish which originated from Québec.

For the uninitiated, Poutine is made with French fries and cheese curds sprinkled on top, then topped off with a drizzle of light brown sauce. Imagine our delight when we found out that it is part of Chick Can Rotisserie’s menu!

The fresh cut fries are crispy on the outside with soft interiors, and goes well with the generous portions of chicken cubes and twirling cheese curds doused in brown gravy. There is a good balance between the main ingredients which made it a hit among those at the table.

The name of the restaurant literally beckons – you can never miss out on this. Even after six years, the fries are still as good, if not better than when we had them way back then. If you think truffle fries are boring and overrated, you need not settle, because there is something even better here – Curry Fries (S$8).

Yes, this humongous sharing plate is for just S$8 and we honestly cannot get sick of it. Our favourite flavour yet!

Salted egg yolk all day every day. When we learned about a Salted Egg Yolk Shaker Fries on Fish & Chicks’ menu, we were ecstatic, to say the least.

The salted egg yolk seasoning and the fresh, hot fries made a beautiful pairing. And because it is a shaker, you can decide whether you want to add more or less of the seasoning, but we went all out.

HOUSE AT DEMPSEY- TRUFFLE FRIES

As one of Singapore’s pioneers in Truffle Fries, the taste of House at Dempsey’s Truffle Fries is one that is hard to forget.

Singapore F&B scene has been very exciting over the past few years. There is always a new place opening almost every week. There are so many new and cool restaurants that I find it hard to keep up. While I love checking out the latest hip place in town – it is, after all, my job to do that – sometimes, I just like to go somewhere familiar. One of my favourite restaurants in Singapore is House at Dempsey Hill.

House may already be very popular, but it is a shame that it remains as one of the most under-rated restaurants around. It is not easy to create a cosy ambience with vibes so chic. Yet, House managed to do it so effortlessly. Mismatched furnitures, spacious layout with low ceilings and sporadic partitions, dim lights complementing the sun rays that stream in from the ceiling-to-floor glass panels, soft jazz and lounge music looping while the coffee machine brews and the wine glasses clink intermittently; there is this unassuming comfort that makes sitting here all too indulging.

The folks at House have recently launched a new menu – its first major overhaul in six years. The food is still very much the same – simple comfort fare that you can eat on a regular basis. And now, we are in for more new additions.

We started with the Asparagus, Serrano Ham and Crumbed Egg $22. This classic combination never fails to please.

In addition to the legendary truffle fries ($11), Barracks Café has also introduced some new variations in the form of Pumpkin hazelnut fries ($12) – shoestring pumpkin fries with crunchy hazelnut, paprika and chilli powder; Truffle Taro Fries ($7) – straw cut yam fries with aromatic truffle oil; Curry Mustard Fries ($9) – shoestring fries topped with paprika, curry and a sprinkle of sea-salt; and Carrot Fennel Fries ($9) – straw cut sweet carrot fries with a sprinkle of fennel.

An old favourite that has its place standing firm on the menu is the Asian Sliders, also known as Kong Ba Bao. House’s rendition is easily one of the best around. Braised lean pork belly tucked in steaming hot buns, and complimented with crispy taro fries. In a word: perfection.

The Hanger Steak ($27) with croquettes and wild mushrooms was also a crowd-pleaser that afternoon. A perfectly seared steak so affordable, I would go back to House just for this.

If you are like me, a fan of risotto, you have to try the new Pumpkin Risotto with brown butter reduction and toasted pumpkin seeds.

The Roasted Chilean Cod Fish, with a refreshing apple and celery salad, was extremely fresh, but we did not fancy the sweet date sauce that came along with it. If you still have room, you should go for the Pork Ribs with Caramelised Pineapple ($27). While the meat was not off-the-fork-tender, it was still very flavourful and delicious.

House did not make any changes to the desserts menu, so you can still find the popular favourites such as their Warm Strawberry Shortcake ($9.50), Carrot Cake ($7), and Warm Chocolate Toffee Cake ($9.50).

The Bitter Chocolate Tart ($7.50) was amazing. Now, I hardly use the word ‘amazing’ to describe desserts, but House’s version completely won me over. It was bitter, sweet and done just right.

The Lemon Ricotta Cheesecake ($7.80) impressed, too, with its creamy and cheesy flavour, and the addictive biscuit base. The only dessert that I did not enjoy was the Warm Banana Salted Caramel Cake ($7). While the use of popcorn in a dessert was interesting, the cake was somewhat lacking in flavour and depth.

Many of my friends are big fans of The Coastal Settlement (TCS). Some of them like it because of the lovely atmosphere, while others love it because it is a hidden gem in the east of Singapore.

I went there during a weekend, and it was indeed the perfect kind of place to go to unwind with friends.

The Coastal Settlement is huge – in fact, much bigger than I thought – and easily accommodates three hundred people.

This is a destination to dine in comfort and to simply forget about everything – Sentimental oldies loop softly in the background, crystal chandeliers hang from the low ceiling and cast warm light against the wooden furniture, scents of fresh roast and bakes fill the air…

There is this rustic charm that makes it all too possible to just sit here the entire day. And did I tell you about the array of displays within the restaurant too? Think drum sets, vespas and ice kachang machines.

The brunch menu is available on weekends and public holidays from 11am to 4pm. Apart from the popular brunch food like big breakfast ($24), steak and eggs ($36), and eggs benedict ($17), there are also main courses like roasted chicken with truffle fries ($25), truffle mushroom fettuccine ($21), nasi lemak ($16), and cheese burger ($26).

We shared a few items, and while they were decent, they were not fantastic. And given that The Coastal Settlement is a casual dining restaurant, we felt that the prices were rather steep.

Furthermore, the inaccessible location of the restaurant might put off people who do not drive.

That said, The Coastal Settlement is definitely worth visiting at least once. If I was staying in the east, this would be a frequent haunt. Otherwise, I’d probably drop by to have drinks and desserts for a great bonding experience.

Note: Preparazzi has closed.

Words by Alexa Michelle, photographs by ladyironchef

Ever wondered how it’s like to have Asian food in your taste buds while dining in a western ambience? That would be my closest description to how I felt when at Preparazzi Bar Gourmet.

Located in the midst of the Central Business District area along Boon Tat Street, Preparazzi Bar Gourmet is a relatively new restaurant which specialises in serving modern Singapore cuisine – western dishes with a local twist.

Upon arrival at the restaurant, I was greeted with an arty interior as the walls had a canvas painting and a shimmery gold typography that says ‘hello gorgeous’. We proceeded to order the truffle mac & cheese ($10.90) and beef slider ($14.90) as a start. The truffle mac & cheese consists of macaroni; cheddar cheese mixed with truffle salt and honshimeiji mushrooms. As a truffle lover, the smell and blend of truffle salt with honshimeiji makes this dish a must-try, making it taste like a fusion of macaroni mixed with Asian mushroom.

The beef slider wrapped in gougère, looking very much like a pastry, was filled with Angus beef steak, topped with tamarind pepper, pineapple chutney and onion jam. Once you bite into it, you’ll taste a blast of sweet and savoury; sweetness from the pineapple and jam and savoury tasting from the Angus beef.

For our mains, we tried the X.O. vongole ($20.90) and duck confit ($19.90). The X.O. vongole is a dish cooked in spaghetti with white clams, X.O. gremolata, white wine and asparagus. The fragrance of the X.O. gremolata and cut asparagus will make one feel that this pasta dish is not too heavy to indulge while enjoying the white clams. A dish that has a good balance of healthy sides while indulging in seafood!

My favourite has to be the duck confit as it was accompanied with sweet potato gnocchi, corn, garlic, chilli and 5-spice salt. On the first bite of the duck meat, this dish brought sudden memories of dining in a Chinese restaurant. I felt that the chewy sweet potato gnocchi was paired with the duck meat to replace the typical carbohydrates selection of rice or potatoes.

Another main dish we got to try was the roast pork crackling ($23.90), a pork belly dish served with crispy cayenne apple, corn, pea and pineapple chutney. Similar to the duck confit, it brings a whiff of Asian aroma and taste to the dish. However, the roast pork crackling is slightly dryer than the duck confit as it had various thick pastes accompanying it.

Last but not least, every girl’s favourite, would be the part we get to desserts. It is almost impossible for most ladies to resist the sweet ending to a meal! With that said, we ordered the kopi-misu ($15). You might wonder why the name kopi-misu? This dessert is in fact similar to tiramisu except it is a sponge finger cake with kopi, mascarpone and coco powder. If you are a tiramisu lover, you’ll definitely fall in love with Preparazzi’s rendition. The texture of the cake was simply soft and creamy with a layer of coco powder set on top, it melted in our mouths on the first bite and we couldn’t resist finishing the entire plate afterwards.

Another dessert that we tried was the “baked” Singapore ($15.90). Its unique almond cake wraps in a combination of pineapple jam, raspberry sauce, vanilla gelato and meringue on top. It was indeed one of the most unique tasting desserts we’ve had representing the flavours of Singapore as a whole. But we felt that the portion of the meringue was overwhelming, and not something that we would order again.

To sum it up, Preparazzi Bar Gourmet offers a wide range of western food infused with Asian dishes. For the adventure seekers and exotic food lovers, you might want to venture to this area of the Central Business District to give it a try. Their menu also includes a fair selection of drinks such as cocktails and wine, sweet treats like cupcakes and French fries that come with a choice of truffle salt ($9.90), curry salt ($9.90) and rosemary salt with parmesan ($8.90). Recommended for dining up to 4 pax.

Brunch is the country’s favourite weekend meal. It is so popular that almost every restaurant has started brunch service. Some places are slightly more adventurous, they come up with various interpretations using different ingredients; while others stick to the usual favourites such as eggs benedict, pancakes, and French Toast.

The Dempsey Brasserie is one of them. They feature classic items like eggs benedict ($18) smothered with hollandaise sauce, pancakes drenched with maple syrup ($12), scrambled eggs and shaved truffle ($16), big brasserie breakfast ($24). For something heavier, they also offer dishes like whole roasted chicken ($30), fish & chips ($23), and tagliatelle arrabiatta ($22).

Nothing says weekend to me like indulging with friends over a good brunch. So when the folks from Genting were in town, Beatrice and I brought them to The Dempsey Brasserie, where they serve weekend brunch from 10.am to 3.30pm.

Beatrice is crazy for anything truffle, so we started with the truffle fries ($13). In fact, there was a tussle as everyone could not stop eating the truffle fries, and to keep the peace, we ordered a second portion. Needless to say, they are now one of the places on my list of best truffle fries in Singapore.

I was very excited when the gorgeous ‘the works’ burger ($26) – a 200g prime Angus beef patty with caramelised onions, crispy bacon, sauteed mushrooms, gruyere cheese, lettuce, and tomato – arrived. I hurriedly took a bite, but it was sadly, underwhelming. The patty was way too dry, and I did not finish it.

Most of the breakfast items like eggs benedict, pancakes, and big breakfast were decent, but nothing to rave about.

The standout dish was the signature airflown Tasmania mussels ($20 for starter, $36 for main pot) cooked in white wine sauce.

Overall we really wanted to love The Dempsey Brasserie because it has a nice ambience, and a good location. While it managed to be fairly decent, most of the food did not leave a deep impression.

That said, I’d probably come back again for dinner; the presence of coq au vin ($26), steak frites ($38), duck confit ($32) is enough to tempt me to give them a second chance.

This guide to the best truffle fries in Singapore was last updated on 22 Feb 2015.

Truffle fries are French fries tossed with truffle oil, truffle salt and parmesan cheese. Truffle oil is used to impart the earthy flavour and aroma of truffles to fries; giving it a strong smoky after-taste. It is not hard to understand why people crave for it. There is just something appealing about the exotic truffle oil – you either love it or hate it. Here is a list of the best truffle fries in Singapore.

#1 DANCING CRAB

Dancing Crab is a new dining concept by the Tung Lok Group at the Grandstand. The whole idea is that you eat seafood directly from the table with your bare hands – of course, you can use utensils or eat from the plates, but we won’t encourage that because it takes the fun away.

The restaurant offers a side of Spicy Cajun Fries (S$7) to go along with the classic seafood dishes like Fish & Chips, and Lobster Roll. But we highly recommend getting the Truffle Fries (S$7).

Habitat Coffee at Upper Thomson Road deserves a mention for the great work that it has been doing. The bistro has been around for a few years, and despite the tough competition, it shines and remains a favourite for many. The menu has a nice mix of sandwiches, brunch food, pasta, and desserts, but you must start with the Truffle Fries (S$8).

Tanjong Beach Club (TBC) by the Lo & Behold Group is the perfect place to escape from the city and enjoy a day of sun, sand and sea. It has a restaurant (The Dining Room), a bar and a pool facing the beach.

The Dining Room at Tanjong Beach Club offers a unique beach dining experience, and after dinner, you can laze by the pool and enjoy a Tanjong Martini with truffle fries. The beach house at Sentosa is modern, sexy and definitely the place to see and be seen.

The crowd at Tanjong Beach Club is quite diverse. From the beach goers in cargo shorts, bikinis and flip flops, lazing by the pool side during the weekends; to young working executives on a romantic dinner date; to well-heeled cliente with an appreciation for the finer things in life – there is a good mix of crowd.

Since it was a Friday night, we had a glass of champagne each. Actually, even if it wasn’t a Friday night, I’d still have a glass of champagne.

As usual, we had a hard time trying to decide on the dishes. So we took the easy way out and asked for recommendations. On my own, I probably would not order a salad, but the Bean Salad ($19) came highly recommended so we started with that.

We followed up with the Salt-cured Foie Gras ($27), which I thought was pretty cool. The goose liver was served with toasted brioche, kaya and house-made jam. Eaten together, the cold foie gras combination was quite amazing. But I would very much prefer to have pan seared foie gras.

The best, however, had yet to come – we had the freaking awesome truffle fries. Having heard so much about Tanjong Beach Club’s popular bar snack – which my friend proclaimed as the best truffle fries in Singapore – I wasn’t prepared to leave the place without trying it.

The bar menu isn’t available in the dining room, and vice versa. Still, we managed to convince the waitress to serve us the truffle fries while waiting for the rest of the appetisers to be served.

The dining room at Tanjong Beach Club has a good mix for its main course menu. We were tempted by the Crispy Atlantic Cod ($42) and the Spicy Crab Spaghetti ($32); while the Roasted Kurobuta Pork ($43) and Asparagus Risotto ($26) also called out to us. We eventually settled for the Maine Lobster Pot Pie ($58) and USDA Prime New York Strip Steak ($58).

Encased by flaky pastry crust, the lobster pot pie was quite a visual treat for the senses. We watched as the waitress poked a hole into the crust and unearthed the lobster from within. It was like digging for treasure!

The USDA Prime New York Strip Steak ($58) came with potato puree, roasted mushroom, and smoked eggplant. It was a gorgeous piece of meat, but unfortunately, it was way too salty.

We used the elimination method to choose our desserts. Since we weren’t keen on the Mixed Berry Bowl and ice cream, it was down to the Coconut Panna Cotta ($14), Chocolate Ganache Tart ($16) and Tea & Honey Parfeit ($14). We decided to leave the Panna Cotta for another day and had the other two desserts to end off the meal.

I thought that the Chocolate Ganache Tart – which was accompanied by salted candied hazelnuts, butterscotch sauce and vanilla bean ice cream – was pretty fabulous.

The Tea & Honey Parfeit ($14) came in a pretty glass of earl grey crémeux, honey ice cream, house-made honeycomb and chocolate crisp.

The Dining Room at Tanjong Beach Club (TBC) is a great option if you want a nice romantic dinner away from the city. The food is not out-of-this-world good, so don’t come here expecting a life-changing experience. Instead, come here if you want a unique beach-dining experience. The TBC, is after all, one of the few Beach restaurants in Singapore.

I will definitely go back for brunch during weekends.
