Guide to Dempsey Hill Restaurants Singapore

House, Barracks and Camp at Dempsey
Dempsey Hill is arguably one of the hottest dining destinations in Singapore. From upmarket restaurants like The White Rabbit, PS Cafe, and Au Petit Salut; to restaurants serving “exotic” cuisine like Magarita’s and Don Quijote – there are options for everyone. It is the foodie equivalent of heaven.
Here’s a complete guide to the Restaurants in Dempsey Hill Singapore:
For $30++ per person, Au Petit Salut at Harding road offers a three course set lunch which has choices like Burgundy snails for entrees, the delicious red wine braised beef cheeks for main course, Crème Brulée for desserts and a cup of coffee/tea. This is possibly one of the best set lunches in Singapore.

Housing restaurants like The Muthu’s Flavor, Grand Hong Kong Chinese Restaurant, Pamplemousse Bistro & Bar, CM-PB Contemporary Melting Pot & Bar; Dempsey 6six and 7even is the newest block in Dempsey Hill.
I recently found out that there’s free shutter bus services from DFS Galleria & Wheelock Place to the new Dempsey 6ix and 7even block. Besides that, there’s a different shutter bus route that goes to Dempsey road Blk 8D/15 from the bus stops outside Glenagles hospital, Thai Embassy, Four Seasons Hotel and Au Petit Salut.

A friend who has been to the new CM-PB contemporary melting pot & bar commented that the styling of the food bears similar resemblance to that of Southbridge @ 7atenine.

If you are looking for a breakfast place in Singapore that serves daily brunch, look no further than Hacienda Cafe. I have always been a big fan of Prive Bakery Cafe at Keppel bay. I have to admit, I have never see this Thai restaurant in Dempsey Hill before. After a quick check on the net, the background of Jim Thompson restaurant is pretty impressive. Wouldn’t it be nice to eat our way through ALL the restaurants there, and have a review for each?
Ah sigh.
July 4th, 2010 @ 7:10 pm
go try pamplemousse, it’s not too bad. i did a corporate dinner for client and they absolutely loved the place. my fren had the set lunch at SGD38++ (i think) and she was raving about it. i would strongly recommend their signature dessert, homemade milo ice cream and banana toast.
July 4th, 2010 @ 9:32 pm
Thanks for the shuttle bus tip! I’ll be going to Dempsey more often i suppose!
July 4th, 2010 @ 11:00 pm
I have seen the Jim Thompson restaurant in London alongside River Thames. Mind you, never been in. So now it’s also in S’pore. I know the boutiques here that sell accessories, tees and fabric, my mum loves the quality.
I normally go to Jones and House when I’m at Dempsey. So far I’ve only been there for tea or snack. Petit Salut and Samy has been there for ages, even before the whole Dempey place was developed into this. These are “classic” places.
July 5th, 2010 @ 9:29 am
i tried tawadang brewery, cant say it was worth tryin to b honest except for the beers. everything seemed too fast to b made to order.
July 5th, 2010 @ 4:22 pm

Having tried their dinner offerings at the new Branch at Mandarin Gallery, please stick to breakfast and desserts – and you will be satisfied.
The above got me laughing! Btw, so jones the grocer only offer brunch till 12pm on weekdays? ):
July 5th, 2010 @ 8:48 pm
Btw have you tried OOSH before? Is it any good? Or what can you recommend?
July 5th, 2010 @ 11:19 pm
Ooooo that is one mighty fine list. I am interested to work my way through some of them (but the transport oh the transport!) Oh, have you tried the Bistro Petit Salut at Chip Bee Garden? Same management as Au Petit Salut, equally good, less crowded.
Oh, and remember I recommend Osvaldo’s (italian food)? I’ve blogged about it here – http://vintagetrinkets.blogspot.com/2010/07/osvaldos.html (:
July 5th, 2010 @ 11:51 pm
there’s infusion88?
wan hao wasnt as exciting as i thought
some hits some misses.
July 5th, 2010 @ 11:54 pm
shuttle bus my dear.
shutter buses dont cut it. heh.
July 6th, 2010 @ 8:59 am
Camemberu: If we really do that, our pockets will have a big hole, and our stomach will be very big as well : p
jellyting: Ooh, really? they never really catch my attention except for their funky name. The food is westen-ish right?
Charlene: HAHA! otherwise you can always catch a bus from orchard, it’s around 10 minutes right and since there are so many buses that pass by dempsey (it will be much faster)
Joyce: yeah i love au petit salut. I am saving up to slowly explore the rest! haha
lotsofcravings: As in the food came too fast??
poisonivy: Are you back HOME already? Welcome back, time to read through my old posts! : )
rachel: nope haven been to oosh before. yea if i am not wrong, jones serve brunch till 11-12 during weekdays, and slightly later on weekends. Better to give them a call to confirm the timing
chelle: Thank you! nope haven try bistro petit, maybe one day! yea u mentioned abt Osvaldo’s before. But it’s not cheap right? My pockets not very deep! haha
brenda: I think infusion88 closed down already, thats why i din mentioned it in the list.
July 6th, 2010 @ 9:33 pm
nope it hasn’t! just that hiroki left the restaurant so it’s no longer hiroki88infusion but just infusion.
July 7th, 2010 @ 1:01 am
I have tried 8 cafes/ rests. u have listed hehee..
July 7th, 2010 @ 11:50 am
I love the Dempsey eateries ..not just for the food but also for the ambience. White Rabbit is excellent..great food too. It’s a nice place for date or special occasion with your loved ones. I was there to celebrate my friend’s birthday last month.
Been to Oosh, PS Cafe, Go GO Bambinis, Long Beach, Reddot Brewery, Haciendas and Samy Curry too.
July 8th, 2010 @ 3:00 pm
This post is awesome much, for the bookmark! I’ll go bankrupt by the time I finish exploring each of the restaurants listed here haha.
July 8th, 2010 @ 3:31 pm
Forketta: Overpriced pasta for those who know nothing about real Italian pasta. This is the kind of pasta a beginner chef might make. Avoid.
Chang Korean: I like their kimchi which is the right side of sour and spicy in my opinion. Highlight is the well marinated beef that is barbequed right in front of you. The downside? It’s compulsory to order two serves of the bbq if there’s two of you … so although the price may look like it’s $39 or whatever, but really, it’s actually $78 if there’s two of you.
Jones the Grocer: Full Aussie breakfast is great (love the sausages) and the coffees are one of the best in Singapore I think.
Tawandang: Love the pork knuckles, fried chicken and squid in sour and spicy soup. But like all Thai restaurants, it’s not cheap.
PS Cafe: Food quality is good although price is a bit on the high side. My fave is the sticky date pudding.
Samy’s Curry: I find their offerings always at room temperature which is disconcerting. Definitely cannot beat my regular banana leaf joint – Gandhi’s on Chander Road (parallel to Racecourse Road).
July 9th, 2010 @ 10:56 am
brenda: OH! so there’s still infusion there? so confusing! lol
Eileen: 8? That’s more than me! hahaha which eight? and which is your favorite?
Yvonne Chin: Wow you been to 9 of them! i love the decor of The white rabbit, but i heard that the food isn’t as good? Which Dempsey hill restaurant will u be going next?
danghl: I think even if we go to one Dempsey hill restaurant every weekend, one year won’t be enough! lol
Adrian: WOW WOW! you been to many of the Dempsey road Restaurants too! The Chang Korean BBQ is it only ala carte or there’s buffet? $78++ for 2 person? that’s kinda pricey, but is the portions filling?
July 9th, 2010 @ 2:48 pm
I wish I could eat at all of them!
This is one of my favourite areas.
July 11th, 2010 @ 12:43 pm
bookjunkie: Dempsey hill is always a good place to look for nice and atas restaurants
July 19th, 2010 @ 8:18 pm
I second Catherine! Ah, double sigh.
July 23rd, 2010 @ 12:36 pm
The bread at CA California are really really good…esp their foccacia. It’s apparently all handmade artisan bread. I had their turkey and mango sandwich on sundried tomato foccaia the first time around and has been hooked on their foccacia ever since.
July 26th, 2010 @ 12:38 am
Ju: hahahaha it’s impossible my dear
TTCL: really? handmade artisan bread sounds like the bomb! okay dok, thanks for recommendation, will check out their foccacia the next time i am in dempsey : )
July 26th, 2010 @ 12:51 am
I am a fan of Rakuichi. Not cheap, but food’s nice and fresh. Chef can do up something if you tell him the budget you have per person. Like the mini crabs. Great creepy crawlies welcome you when you step into the restaurant but end up on your plate as a snack. (“,)
Tawandang – I love the pork knuckles and also the fried shrimps. Goes well with their own beer. Tom Yam soup there’s okay.
Jones, the Grocer – Food’s not too bad, but it lacks service. Definitely not a place for you if you’re celebrating a birthday and you have your own cake. They won’t let you cut and consumer your own cake.
Hiroki 88 – I like the ambience and the food. But that was last year. Haven’t been there since. Read my review at
http://superadrianme.com/2010/04/04/food-review-hiroki88-infusion-dempsey/
July 31st, 2010 @ 12:38 pm
adrian: rakuichi always seem kind of pricey from the outside, so i haven think of venturing in yet. yea jones is not my favorite brunch places, but it will do since they have brunch available daily
July 31st, 2010 @ 2:34 pm
I have to agree with Superadrianme. For the quality, Rakuichi is not too bad. I love their bento, and their inaniwa udon.

We are fans of Dempsey and tried have tried quite a fair bit of restaurants there. Jim Thompson thai food is phenomenal. Absolutely spicy and delicious – perfect combination of sourness and spicyness. Heart it!
August 6th, 2010 @ 12:44 am
camemberu: Okay it’s rakuichi at dempsey the next time i am craving for Japanese food!
michelle: REALLY? Jim Thompson at dempsey is so good? how much do you spend on average? i am really quite curious about their price point
August 26th, 2010 @ 11:49 pm
Jim Thompson is really worth trying! Food quality is really awesome and the ambiance is pretty chill too. Must try the tom yum goong there!
September 14th, 2010 @ 12:18 pm
Culina is by far my favorite restaurant in Dempsey. It is a gourmet market and a restaurant so you can order anything from the market and have it freshly prepared. The food is extremely fresh and tasty. The mussels are a must if you are a mussel fan and the wagyu beef steak is best steak I have ever had in SG. They give you truffle salt to sprinkle on anything you want too which makes me too happy.
A bit pricey, but definitely worth every penny.
September 17th, 2010 @ 11:33 am
grace: okie dokie now im sold! haha
urban journey: you know what, i haven been to Culina yet! best steak in Singapore? thanks for the tip!
September 17th, 2010 @ 1:35 pm
Best steak in SG that I have had for sure! Would love to read your thoughts on it! Do try it!
October 17th, 2010 @ 12:18 am
Hi lady iron chef. Can you recommend me any restaurant in demsey hill or other places that offers candlelit dinner? My girlfriend’s birthday is due in 3 weeks time and i have no idea which restaurant to bring her to. She’s kind of a more to western seafood type of a person. Thanks if your able to recommend one to me! =)
May 25th, 2011 @ 3:42 pm
Thanks, i have been in SG 10 yrs and never been to dempsey area. I googled for it and found your comprehensive list. Thanks a ton !!
June 6th, 2011 @ 11:43 pm
I’ve been to Oosh, White Rabbit, Hacienda Cafe, and PS Cafe. I really love the orange cake and fries with truffle at PS Cafe. I tried the steaks at White Rabbit and Hacienda Cafe and I much prefer the one at White Rabbit. At Oosh, I didn’t try any of the food, just had a drink. In terms of atmosphere and place, PS Cafe is my fave. White Rabbit is nice but it’s too upscale. The decor at Hacienda Cafe could be improved. Oosh is good for chilling out with friends.
July 5th, 2011 @ 6:59 pm
Nice list you have there! I was actually browsing through for a restuarant to bring my gf for birthday. Anyone can tell me roughly how much would it cost per pax at culina and jones the grocer?
)
December 29th, 2011 @ 2:19 am
where would u recommend on the top of ur list for a romantic dinner at dempsey?
December 29th, 2011 @ 3:48 am
@jeannie I like the white rabbit, au petit salut and barracks cafe
January 3rd, 2012 @ 5:38 pm
Ps cafe has the rudest and worst service ever – went twice and hard to believe second waitress even ruder than first time. Food good but not worth putting up with with the rudeness.
January 28th, 2012 @ 2:28 pm
any idea which 3 restaurants are the most similar in dempsey?
January 31st, 2012 @ 8:59 pm
any idea which is halal? thanks
