Postcards from Gardens by the Bay Singapore

Gardens by the Bay

Singapore has always been known as a ‘Garden City’, and with the opening of Gardens by The Bay, it further strengthens and positions Singapore as a city in a garden. Some people have compared it to London’s Hyde Park and New York’s Central Park, and while the comparison is flattering, Gardens by The Bay is very much different and has its own character and X-factor.

Spanning 101 hectares, Gardens by The Bay is made up of three waterfront gardens – Bay South Garden, Bay East Garden and Bay Central Garden – and it houses over 250,000 rare plants. Alongside other main attractions like the Singapore Flyer, Marina Bay Sands, and the skyscrapers at the Marina Bay area, Gardens by The Bay has become an iconic part of the beautiful Singapore’s skyline. In years to come, I am sure it will become one of Singapore’s prominent national icons.

NamNam Noodle Bar Singapore

NamNam Noodle Bar

NamNam Noodle Bar, a relatively new dining concept by the Les Amis Group, features iconic street favourites of Vietnam. It is not uncommon to see long queues at its two branches at Raffles City and Wheelock during meal times.

The idea of the noodle bar is simple, but very clever. I have always lamented that Singapore lacks good Vietnamese eateries, and NamNam managed to fill a gap in the market at the right time.

Editor’s Note August 2013

Singapore Flyer

Singapore’s National Day is just a week away, and in conjunction with the nation’s birthday, we will be featuring the best things that our country has to offer. There will be postcard posts on some of the iconic attractions and places, as well as guides on local food, shopping, and things to do in Singapore.

It has often been said that there is nothing much to do in Singapore, and in our opinion, it is not a fair statement. Singapore is like wine – you have to learn about her slowly in order to appreciate her. We hope that with this month’s feature, everyone will have a better understanding of Singapore, and get to explore and rediscover the sunny island.

Bali Food Guide – 35 Restaurants, Eateries & Bars You Have To Visit

Bali Best Restaurants

This guide to Bali’s best restaurants was last updated on 19 Mar 2015.

Bali is Indonesia’s favourite poster boy for tourism; it is the most popular tourist spot in the country and it is understandable why visitors flock there every so often for the beaches, clubbing, and cultural sights. And now, it is safe to say that Bali is also one of Asia’s most vibrant dining destinations where you can get not just good local Indonesian food, but also fine dining restaurants that are of international standards.

Besides staying at chic and swanky resorts, we also checked out many amazing dining concepts which include restaurants like Mama San, Petitenget and Merah Putih at Jalan Petitenget. Perennial favourites such as Ku De Ta and Potato Head remain at the forefront of the local F&B scene. There are so many good restaurants and bars that it is impossible to visit all of them.

Here is our Bali Food Guide of 34 of the best restaurants, eateries, cafes & bars that you have to visit on the Island of Gods.

Darwin Crocodile River Cruise

Darwin Crocodile River Cruise

Besides famous national parks such as Kakadu and Litchfield, and activities like fishing and camping, Darwin is perhaps most well-known for the crocodiles. So, what better way to explore the city than to hop on a boat and look for wild crocodiles lurking in the rivers?

The good people from Tourism NT kindly arranged an excursion for us with Spectacular Jumping Crocodile Cruise, and it was quite an experience as we went up close with the salties (saltwater crocodiles), which is the world’s largest reptile.

Krispy Kreme Singapore to open at Tangs in October

Krispy Kreme Singapore

Krispy Kreme, the famous American doughnut franchise, will be opening in Singapore at Tangs Orchard Basement 1 in October 2013. This is great news for fans of Krispy Kreme who have waited so long for the original glazed doughnuts to come to Singapore. I am glad that we no longer need to carry boxes of Krispy Kreme doughnuts back from overseas. 2013 is turning out to be a great year for the local food scene. I certainly look forward to the arrival of more brands in the near future.

Naughty Nuri’s Warung Best Pork Ribs Bali

Naughty Nuri

Barbecued pork ribs are one of my all-time favourite food. To me, the perfect BBQ pork ribs are not only fork-tender, but they must also be succulent and slightly charred on the outside. Coated with an addictive BBQ sauce, they are unbeatable!

The pork ribs from Naughty Nuri’s Warung belong to this category. I am going out on a limb to say that their pork ribs are life-changing, and they are definitely one of the best that I have ever had. The pork ribs are so good that you would lick your fingers and plate clean. Trust me, you will see BBQ pork ribs in a very different light after trying the ones from Naughty Nuri’s Warung.

Wicked ribs and brutal cocktails. Enough said. This is a place that you must not miss in Bali.
