Updated: The 3D2N Genting giveaway has closed. The winner is comment #172, congrats Penny! I will be sending you an email in a bit.
I had the chance to visit Resorts World Genting – the most popular tourist destination in Malaysia – and it was an eye opening experience as I learned many new things about Genting that I never knew before.
I thoroughly enjoyed the trip because I went with Beatrice and Selene, who are great travelling companions. But most importantly, I felt like I was visiting my second home – Genting would always hold a special place in my heart because my family goes there every year for a getaway.
I remember the first time I was in Genting, and how everything felt so magical; the first time that I fell down because I was too excited at the outdoor theme park; the first time I took the cable car up to the mountain resort; the first ice cream that I ate in the cool weather – all the first time experiences that I had in Genting.
For many people, Genting is about the exciting rides at the magical outdoor theme park; the cold and nice weather; and the gaming and entertainment in the casino. It was the same for me, until I spent a weekend there with the girls. We discovered that Genting has a lot more to offer. So here’s my Guide on Things to do in Genting Highlands.
We are also giving away a 3D2N stay at Maxims Genting, details are at the end of the post. Good luck you guys!
Before you read the rest of my post, here’s a video trailer that Beatrice did for our adventure in Genting.
Genting, here we come!

We were starving after a five hours journey on the luxurious Transtar First Class Coach, and our first stop in Genting was Imperial Rama Restaurant (Level 2 Highlands Hotel, Tel: +603 6101 1118). For those who always go to Genting, I’m sure you are familiar with Imperial Rama Restaurant – one of the fine dining restaurants in Genting that specialises in authentic Thai-Chinese cuisine.

The chef arranged a 8 course meal for us and we had Mushroom with Truffle Oil and Vegtable Salad; Thai Crispy Fish Paste Cracker; Shark’s Fin Bone Soup; Steamed Marble Goby Fish; Wasabi and Salted Egg Yolk Prawns; Abalone with Black Truffle; Green Curry Chicken Served with Fried Rice; and Durian Tempura with Soursop.
Beatrice went crazy when the Mushroom Salad with Truffle Oil arrived (she’s a fan of anything-truffle), while Selene thoroughly enjoyed her Durian Tempura. With yummy food and good company, our Genting adventure was off to a great start!

After a scrumptious lunch, we went on a tour of the Maxims Hotel. Our host showed us all the different rooms in Maxims Genting, and guess what? We went to the Penthouse too!

“Wow! Thank you Genting for letting us stay in the Penthouse!” I said when we entered the apartment, which has five rooms, a fully equipped kitchen, gym, and a huge living room. Unfortunately, that trick didn’t work. But it wasn’t too bad as we got a very nice room for our 3D2N stay.

At the helipad where we got a bird’s eye view of the entire Genting.

The good people at Genting upgraded us to a suite and all we wanted to do was to stay in the hotel and enjoy all the facilities.

We stayed in the room until dinner. Beatrice and I were “working” on our blogs, while Selene was checking orders from her online shop Klarra.

After finishing our social media duties, it took us quite a while to prepare as we were going for a fine dining dinner at The Olive. Here’s a picture of Beatrice and Selene all dressed up! Heh.

The Olive – Genting’s fine dining Western restaurant – is definitely the place to go if you want a romantic dinner with your date. I was really looking forward to it because QiuQiu told me that she had a fantastic dinner there when she visited Genting last year.

On the menu, there’s a good selection of starters, main courses, and some delicious desserts to choose from. Luckily for us, we didn’t have to make the tough decision as our host ordered the signature items. Among the dishes that we tried at The Olive (Lobby Flour, Maxims Genting Tel: +603 6101 1118 Ext 59668), the highlights were the Mushroom Salad with Truffle, Steak, and Rack of Lamb.

When we were at The Olive for dinner, there was a special Whisky tasting event at the restaurant’s lounge. We were lucky to be there at the right time as we got a quick lesson on scotch by the Whisky Sommelier who flew in from Scotland. Genting organises a lot of such events, so there’s always something for you to do when you are up at the mountain resort.

Life is good when you get to see a show after a nice dinner. We had tickets to FREEZE – a magic show on ice at Genting International Showroom. What a spectacular show!

I’ll be honest. Initially I wasn’t keen to go for FREEZE as I thought it was just another boring show. Boy, was I wrong. I had a good time, and it was really awe-inspiring to see talented performers working hard for their trade.
Genting has always been known as a stage that hosts world-class shows and international artistes all year round. So make sure you catch one of the shows when you are there!

Even though I was really tired, I couldn’t sleep because I was thinking about having breakfast at Coffee Terrace the next morning.
Coffee Terrace (Lobby Flour Maxims Genting Tel: +603 6101 1118 Ext. 58267) is my favourite breakfast spot in Genting. Their breakfast buffet is really awesome, and it’s only RM 36++! All you can eat for only less than SGD$20? Oh my god, how can anyone miss this?
During lunch and dinner dinner, they have six different concept kitchen serving Local, Baba Nyonya, Chinese, Western, Japanese, and Western Cuisines.

We were up early for the buffet breakfast not because I am a glutton, but because we were heading to Awana Genting for an adventure.
Located at mid-hill, Awana Genting is a premier 4-star golf resort surrounded by greenery. However, we were not there to play golf; our host from Genting had arranged for us to go hiking in the mountains. Yes, you read that right – hiking. Like most of you, I was surprised to know that you can actually go hiking at Genting.

While on the way to the start of the hiking trail, we passed by a long house and we were told that a lot of companies organise their retreats here.

There are lots of activities that are great for team building. So if your company is looking for a place to go for a retreat, do consider Awana Genting.

Halfway through the 1.8km hiking-trail, the girls were so terrified by the leeches that we had to turn back. It was really amusing because they were screaming non-stop while asking me to remove the leeches from their shoes.
After going back to Awana hotel, then I realised that there were two nasty leeches hiding inside my boots for a good twenty minutes. Ouch!
While the girls didn’t really enjoy it, I thought it was quite an experience. I mean, it’s not everyday that you get to go on a hike in Genting. As long as you are wearing the right gear, the hike should be a piece of cake.
Note: There is a shutter bus at half an hour interval from Genting to Awana (the journey is 20 minutes). Alternatively, you can get a cab for around RM20-30. For more information, do approach your hotel’s reception.

After the hike, we proceeded to Genting Strawberry Leisure Farm (No.1, Lot 3707, Jalan Jati 2, Bandar Gohtong Jaya, Tel: 603-6100 1121).

In Singapore, we only get to buy strawberries from the supermarket. But at Genting Strawberry Farm, you get to pick fresh strawberries!

And we also had strawberry juice, mushroom tempura, strawberry ice cream, and fried chicken coated with strawberry sauce.

We headed back to our hotel to change, before going for a therapeutic massage at M Spa & Fitness (Lobby Floor, Maxims Genting Hotel, Tel :603 – 6105 2692).
I did a 90-minute Balinese massage and I felt so good after that. It probably explains why I ate so much during the dinner at Genting Palace.

During this trip, we ate our way around Genting, and my favourite meal was at Genting Palace. From the outside, Genting Palace (2nd Floor, Maxims Genting Hotel Tel: +603 6101 1118) doesn’t look like much. Before the meal, I was even telling Beatrice that we shouldn’t expect too much. I had to take back my words after having a fabulous dinner.

We had a variation of starters; a bowl of Double-boiled Chicken & Ginseng Soup; Crispy Scallop & Banana with Peak Nest; Braised Spare Ribs with Red Vinasse Sauce; Stewed Fresh Water Prawn with Glass Noodle; Steamed Cod Fish Fillet; and Durian Mochi.

Everything was good, but the best dish was the Steamed Cod Fish Fillet. It was easily one of the best Cod I’ve ever had.
Besides the signature Cantonese dishes, Genting Palace also serves a good selection of vegetarian dishes, and they are popular for their dim sum offerings. If you are in Genting, you must go to Genting Palace and say hi to the chef for me.

By the time we got to First World after dinner, most of the shops were closed, so we didn’t get to shop around. You guys should definitely go shopping when you are at First World! Like they say, shopping is cheaper than a psychologist. Since you are already on a holiday, I reckon some retail therapy won’t hurt.
Before the trip, the girls were telling me that they wanted to catch a movie at the First World Theatre; we had a tight schedule so we also didn’t manage to watch a movie.
Anyway, we went to The Patio Bar & Lounge at First World for drinks. It had a terrific atmosphere with the live band belting out pop favourites. We had a CRAZY NIGHT there. It was so, so fun! What happens in Genting stays in Genting.

Sadly, our adventure was coming to an end. But it wasn’t that bad as we had a good breakfast at The Bakery (Lobby level Maxims Genting) before leaving.
We had the pleasure of meeting the executive pastry chef of Resorts World Genting. It was fascinating to hear about his experience of working in Genting, and how his team actually works round the clock to ensure that all the guests get to eat freshly baked bread, pastries and cakes.

After tasting some of the signature bread, we had a table full of desserts. Cakes for breakfast, what’s there not to like?

That’s all for now folks! Hopefully I can do a more detailed guide on restaurants in Resorts World Genting, and the rides in the theme park during my next visit.
Do visit Resorts World Genting’s website for more information, and feel free to leave a comment if you have any questions. See you in Genting!

What I love about Genting is that its weather is pleasantly so different from Singapore’s!!
Sorry I commented twice there was an error
^
Genting brings back lots of family memories for me as a child when my dad would drive the whole family up to the mountains via the steep hills to experience the cold misty weather and thrilling outdoor rides Genting has to offer. However in the past, good food wasn’t well-established hence if I win the 3D2N stay, it would be very rewarding for my soon to be fiance and myself as we can get to savor the dishes which you have blogged about, especially the pastry as I have a sweet tooth!! Do pick me for a dream come true and surprise for my finance to be.
I don’t know what I like about Genting because honestly speaking, I have never been to Genting ever before for the past 25 years of my life. I must say the only thing I like about Genting are those pictures which are captured by different bloggers and when I always see them, I secretly wish I have a chance to go! Especially the strawberries farm which is my first time knowing that it actually existed in Genting, I hope I can use the tickets *if I won* to explore there with my friend
Hi Brad!
I love Genting because it’s cooling no matter where we walk to! I love that there are many activities/ programs suitable from young to old; themepark to casino! It’s also a sweet experience for couples who want to relax during a short trip. Also, I love Genting because it’s only a few hours journey away and even if it’s only a short getaway, it still makes me feel recharged after the trip after long boring weekdays at work!
Good luck to everyone, and hope the winner will enjoy his/her trip to Genting! <3

Genting – Nice weather and it ‘smells’ joyful with all the colours (genting hotel), clouds and the theme park. Especially, when you are there to enjoy. The feeling is different
I like Genting as it provides me with respite from Singapore!
Hi Brad! I like Genting cause it is my first overseas destination as a child. Also, I love the cool weather!!
I love the cool weather!
I LOVE GENTING BECAUSE YOU BLOGGED ABOUT IT!
)
BESIDES THAT,HOW CAN YOU FORGET ABOUT ITS AWESOME COLD WEATHER THAT SINGAPORE DOESN’T HAVE!
I’VE BEEN TO GENTING A COUPLE OF TIMES AND HAVE NOT EXPLORED THE PLACES YOU’VE BLOGGED ABOUT.
IT’LL BE A TOTAL EYE OPENER TO BE ABLE TO GO TO THE PLACES YOU’VE BEEN!
HOPE YOU’LL BE ABLE TO GIVE ME A CHANCE TO EXPLORE GENTING LIKE HOW YOU’VE EXPLORED
Hi Brad
First of all, I would like to say that I love reading your posts and because of you, I always go to new places to eat all the time, and my friends would go to me if they are clueless on what to eat! hehe.
What I love the most about Genting is that it is a place filled with memories of me and my family. As my parents would always bring us to Genting once a year since I was a toddler, Genting has become our annual thing. I had a brother (lost him to cancer), me and my brother would play all day at the amusement park and just having the time of our lives there. Hence, Genting holds so much memories for me and my brother. As he could not join us anymore, we would go Genting, but not as often. What I love about Genting is the weather and also the fact that it has EVERYTHING. Amusement park, restaurants and their hotels are great too. I also loved sipping a cuppa at the Coffeebean alfresco (which I won’t do that in Singapore because of the humidity).
I am planning to surprise my boyfriend with a getaway to Genting this coming July, as we both needed a break from work and I would love to see his reaction when I give the surprise as his birthday gift.
It would be great if I were to win this 3D2N Vacation Stay Giveaway. Thanks Brad
Oh and thanks for blogging about good places to eat and continue doing what you are doing right now because you’re awesome!
Being a child who never got to travel much, genting was the first place I visited when I left s’pore. Therefore, it brought back fond memories of family and friends. It is not about the things I do but about the cosy atmosphere that lets you unwind and want to go back every time.
In no particular order,
the weather, the food, the theme park, the activities available, etc.
But most importantly, the quality time and memories spent with loved ones over there!
Genting was always my dad’s favourite resort. The reason why I love visiting Genting is obviously it’s atmosphere. It seems like I was overseas in Europe.
PS : The bak kut teh and prawn mee at Genting were the best!
Genting holds many memories. Remembered those poor days that we could not go beyond Genting.. How i wish to go there again.
I like GENTING because it is a short get-away from Singapore for my family and I. Moreover, I would like to bring my mother for a holiday after so many happenings in this month.
I like Genting because it is a place where i share wonderful memories with both friends and family. Definitely filled with fun, laughter and joy.
It is also the place where i conquered my first ever space shot. Fear replaced, new found courage acquired!
i love genting cos its a wonderful short getaway from the busy lifestyle! and it has awesome food and a theme park (:
Cold weather and just a hop and a jump away on a budget? What’s there not to love about Genting?
Genting has always been a place that holds special memories for me. My travel experiences is only limited to certain parts of Malaysia, and Genting is definitely the best of all – cooling weather and good entertainment. Genting is also the first place i have travelled to with my family and also with my good friends for holiday! It may be small, but at its every corners there are many precious memories for me
I love Genting because it has everything to offer, from shopping, to nightlife, to sports and sightseeing.
I love the fact that you & Beatrice have uncovered so many awesome places to visit in Genting!!
I honestly never knew that they existed!
I like a place with several activities to do over the weekend, and Genting is the perfect getaway <3
xoxo,
sueann
I love Genting because it is a heaven of crispy cool air, abundant greenery and breathtaking panoramas.
I like the fact that Genting has many activities that I have never done before – strawberry picking, hiking. Best of all, it has tons of delicious food (im a foodie at heart!). Genting being near also means its convenient for me to head there without having my family to worry for me. There’s also many things in Genting that i haven’t tried, such as the theme park, as the previous time i went it was closed due to bad weather.
It will be great if me and my partner can head there for a getaway
What do you like about Genting?
What do I like about Genting? This question strike me when i read your blog, beatrice. I started to ponder, when was the last time I went Genting and what do I really like about Genting?
The last time i went to Genting was when im 17! And now, Im at the age of 22! Five years! It been five years since i last step into Genting. And apparently, the only memories I had in there was the outdoor theme park, and also, the shopping mall which has a famous apparel shop, MANGO?
Thats all i can remember! Its totally different from what written in your blog! The bakery, the restaurant and the hotel which you recommended seems so fascinating!!!! Oh plus, I didnt had the chance to step into strawberry farm which i saw in your blog! And oh my, the hotel you recommended!! It really urge me to step in Genting once again to have a short gateaway after my exams!!
By the way, im having my study break and my exams will commence on first week of May and will end at third week of May!Im studying in SIM! Thus, hopefully i can win this 3d2n from you and have a short gateaway as my post exam trip!
What do you like about Genting?
Wells, if you are thinking where is a good place where is not far (some people may be due to busy work schedule & dying to have a real short getaway with another half or a couple of close friends) and can relax day & night, most importantly cooling weather, Genting is the perfect nearest place to head!
What I like about Genting is mentioned in the earlier para. Not far, relaxation whole day & cool weather! Many may say Genting is like so boring, what can one do that besides playing theme park, visit casinos etc. For me, is how you perceive and make use of your time during the trip, how fruitful you make the trip experience to be. Now at my age, I won’t really thought of playing at theme park. I will most probably head down to Casino, of course not big gamble, just play jackpot for the fun of it, and I still recalled years back when I went there, me and my friends were laughing at this lady from China, she was wearing her full set of pyjamas and taking the escalator up and talking very loudly over her mobile phone. Me and my friends and other people keep staring at her, and myself was wondering is she going to the casino since that escalator can bring us to casino. And if she wants to go, its totally impossible due to her dressing! In the end, all our jaws dropped! To our astonishment, she was able to enter the casino without being stopped by the security guards! Amazing! This is one classic incident which I’ll not forget for the Genting Trip.
Of course, the shopping did improved over the years. Now there is Vincci, Cotton On etc. My friends and I shopped around. Basically Genting is really relaxing for us. Morning eat breakfast, then go back hotel room rest, then out to shop, lunch, then back to hotel nap, then dinner and casino and chilling out at the famous one and only Starbucks using their Wi-Fi to surf net. Like a tai-tai haha.
I would lobve to go Genting again! Because…of the extremely cooling weather! Especially since the weather for the past few days and nights are getting hotter, and even hotter days will come very soon. Genting is a perfect short getaway with your loved ones and enjoy the cooling weather together. One word to describe this: SHIOK!
Thanks and hope to hear good news from you =)
Joanne >.<
Hi Brad!
I like Genting because of the awesome cooling weather, and because it’s a place where we just have fun and eat to our heart’s content! Oh, and I love to dress up in such weathers because I’ll be able to wear my leather jackets and all, which I’ll not be able to do so in Singapore!
After reading your entire post about Genting, I realised that there are so many places that I’ve yet to explore over there and I hope I’ll win this giveaway to get a chance to go there soon!
What do i like about Gentings?
I would lie if i say its not because of the casino and cool weather!
a short and nearby getaway from hot sunny singapore whereby we get to stop by melaka to have good food then up to genting for the awesome weather, great jackpot machines and not forgeting the shopping and dim sum at Ah Yat!
What do I like about Genting?
My first travel oversea trip was with my bf at Genting 3D2N last year.
It was an enjoyable, relaxing yet fun trip. We love the cooling weather, strawberry picking session, mushroom farm tour and of cos playing at the themepark.
This May, will be the mark of our 1 year anniversary. I don’t mind going back genting again with my bf so as to recall the sweet memories we had last year. Thus, decided to try my luck and submit my comment.
I like genting for its weather… So cooling and nice… The food there is quite nice… Genting is definitely a good place for a short getaway..
What do you like about Genting?
I would have to say that I was like you a few years back where trips with my family were dreaded by me. Whenever I went to Genting, I spent most of my time in the room trying to wait out the time.
However, this have change these few years. I realized that I hadn’t explored Genting as much as I should. Now when I go to Genting, I enjoy my time at the Mushroom Farm, the bowling alley and even the cinema. I didn’t even know about these places until a few years back. Genting has everything that me, my family and my friends need. With my family, I spend time with them at the Mushroom Farm, even travelling to KL at times (which is oh, so convenient) and also the many different shows they have at night. With my friends, I am able to go to the themepark, do some good cheap shopping there and also have fun at the bowling alley or cinema.
I haven’t been there for about a year or 2 and would love to find out more about the new and revamped Resorts World Genting! It sounds like there is much much more fun in store for us!
Dear Brad,
I’ve been a long time reader of your blog post, but have never had the chance to leave a comment, till now *shy* Actually, I’ve only been to Genting once, when I was very young, and that was to Genting Highlands theme park. I have never been lucky at lucky draws/giveaways like these, but I would really like the chance to win the 3D2N Genting stay! I’d like to revisit Genting again, as the pictures look lovely from your blog. I guess the thing I like about Genting is the fact that I get a short getaway from the hustle and bustle of Singapore, without spending exorbitant amounts of money to do so, and retreat into a shopping and food haven (as evident from your pictures!), and boy, do your food pictures make me drool! :p I hope you choose me to win this cause I do hope to go on a short vacation with my mum
Thanking you in advance, love, Charlene.
Who doesn’t love a good holiday?
My earliest recollection of a holiday with my family begins at Genting – I can still remember the long winding road that led holidayers all the way up, the many toilet breaks along the way, the huge amusement park with thrilling rides, the icy cool breeze that made me believe (just for awhile, at least) that I was in an exotic European country. No doubt Genting’s familiar outdoor and indoor park rides and dilapidated hotels may be boring to some, but there’s been a lot of construction and upgrading going on in the area. I believe there’s a whole lot more to be explored in Genting today, especially those strawberry farms!!! My boyfriend’s in the army so we don’t have many chances to go overseas together, but if we did win this 3d2n vacation getaway, I’m sure it’ll make for an amazing summer holiday together
Genting has the Nice and perfect weather for chilling.. and i want fresh Strawberries!
Being in Genting is like being up on the clouds, free and mysterious, like in a dream. It feels great to be up high in the mountains, from my previous experience Genting seemed like a place for entertainment (casino, theme park etc) but from your pictures, there’s a lot about nature to be discovered there, and I would like to discover Genting all over again. It’ll be a great getaway to discover a place near Singapore before I leave Singapore for my studies overseas.
My husband and I look forward to stay in Maxims Hotel. This will be our first time to Genting and it will be fantastic if we could spend our 20th anniversary there. Many thanks
The lovely cool weather!
It is cold,BRrrrr~ and i love it cold!
(: and they have very nice Hokkien noodle!! (:
I love the cool, cool weather in Genting – it’s good to be able to get outside in the fresh air without feeling like my face is melting into my neck.
I like its cool weather and the fact that it’s so accessible and great place to have a short getaway!<3 I also like the fact that it has so many forms of entertainment which I had no prior knowledge of despite having been there a couple of times already!:D
I’ve never been to Genting – but this trip review makes it looks really inviting – a really good place for a weekend getaway.
I like Genting because it was my first trip overseas when I was a kid, and I haven’t been back there in a decade! I would love to go back(especially to try all the awesome food you just recommended
)
Hope I can win this trip!
Thanks!
Eileen
I like Genting because of the weather and wide varieties of food, and of course it is the most affordable and the nearest place to go to for a short getaway.
I ? Genting simply because it’s my first overseas trip with my boyfriend! Very memorable!
I like Genting because it’s always there for a short family getaway anytime. It’s affordable, cooling and entertains both the old and young
.
Cheers, Janice
I love Genting because having fun doesn’t have to be expensive! I remember going there as a kid and being completely amazed by the place….a close second to disneyworld!
Hello Brad, here’s the reason why I like (or even love) Genting so much!
For the past 4 years (since 2008), Genting have been a yearly vacation trip together with my boyfriend. To some, Genting may not be an ideal romantic places to have a short vacation with their love ones (as compared to Bali, Phucket etc), but to us, it is sufficient. Genting is like a place for us to relax & just spend time with each other. Although we have been there quite a number of times, we will never run out of activities to do/play! We absolutely love the cooling weather, the awesome food, especially dishes from Mushroom farm, the cheap movie tickets & not to forget their outdoor themepark. We will always stay in First World Hotel as it was pocket-friendly & within our budget (We’re both poor students then), & did not stay in Genting/Maxims Hotel before, thus was really excited as I was reading through your entry!
This year, we have not been to Genting yet & I would like to take this opportunity to win a trip for us to go and spend our 8th anniversary (We’re together since secondary school!
) there this coming June. Really hope to win this & give my boyfriend a surprise!
Thank you for this awesome giveaway! & hopefully I am lucky enough to win it!
Love,
WeeSan
Genting has always been a yearly getaway affair with my girlfriend and we have gone for 3 genting trips so far since we got together.
Simply love the weather, food and entertainment. And we hope to go genting again to make it even more enjoyable and memorable for us!:)
I love Genting because of the cooool weather. It’s a totally different experience to be up there surrounded by clouds. And i would loe to take the roller coaster again!
