Nestled in an enclave of cafes in Tiong Bahru, Merci Marcel is a chic French café that took over the premises of the now-defunct The Orange Thimble. Located right next to Tiong Bahru Bakery, the café operates as a brunch spot in the day and transforms into a casual bar at night.

With a variety of French bakes and mains features in their daytime menu and an even larger assortment of hot beverages and alcoholic drinks, Merci Marcel is the perfect place for a gathering with friends or a romantic date with your other half.

Here’s a peek into what you can expect from this enchanting Parisian-style cafe in Tiong Bahru.

Merci Marcel is an Instagram-worthy Parisian-style café that emits a charming ambience and it is separated into three dining areas—an outdoor lounge, the main dining hall with a fully-stocked bar and an air-conditioned courtyard.

With natural sunlight filtering in through the glass roof, the cafe’s iconic indoor courtyard boasts the best seats for food and OOTD pictures.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>//

Without a doubt, this Parisian café is gaining attention fairly quickly for its charming ambience and we would definitely recommend this brunch spot to our friends.

Advertorial

I was very excited when I first heard that KFC Singapore has a new inclusion in their breakfast menu – a.m. Blueberry Pancakes. After trying them at a recent tasting, I have to say that they are undeniably sogood!

Besides the blueberry pancakes, I love the new KFC a.m. Family Feast, which was also recently introduced. Designed for a family of 4, the breakfast meal comprises two sets of a.m. Blueberry Pancakes with Hash Brown, one set of a.m. Platter, one a.m. Twister (Original Recipe), two coffee/tea, and two hot milo — all for just $19.90!

What a spread on the table, and we didn’t know where to start. So I guessed it was only right to sink my fork into the pancakes.

The KFC a.m. Blueberry Pancakes were actually good on their own. With a subtly-sweet blueberry flavour, the fluffy pancakes were magical. No matter how much you eat, you just want more!

I always adhere to a 5-steps practice whenever I eat pancakes.

Step 1: Smell the pancakes up close.
Step 2: Put a slab of butter and watch it melt on the pancakes
Step 3: Cut the pancakes into pieces and eat it with the butter & maple syrup.
Step 4: Repeat step 2.
Step 5: Order more pancakes, and repeat the whole process.

Oh my god, I’m craving for KFC a.m. blueberry pancakes… as I am typing this.

Besides the blueberry pancakes, the KFC a.m. Family Feast also includes the a.m. Platter. A scrumptious spread of your favourite breakfast food, it comes with the signature Original Recipe chicken fillet, scrambled eggs, a.m. Honey Biscuit and hash brown.

With a texture somewhere between biscuit and cake, the honey biscuit is quite similar to scones. But the star of the a.m. Platter is definitely the Original Recipe chicken fillet. KFC is all about its chicken, and now, you can have it for breakfast too! Splendid.

Oh ya, I almost forgot about the a.m. Twister (Original Recipe). It comprises diced Original Recipe Chicken fillet, scrambled eggs, chopped tomatoes, cheddar cheese and mayonnaise all wrapped in a tortilla and toasted to perfection. I’d like to call this the best-of-everything-in-a-wrap.

The popular a.m. Porridge is also available on KFC’s Breakfast menu. I don’t know about you, but breakfast is the only thing that can get me out of bed on a weekend morning.

Blueberry pancakes, scrambled eggs, hash brown, Original Recipe chicken fillet, honey biscuit and tortilla wrap – life is perfect when you have KFC a.m. Family Feast.

KFC a.m. breakfast is served at 55 restaurants island-wide, from 8am to 11am. A handful of KFC restaurants only serve breakfast on weekends and public holidays, so do check out the KFC website before going down.

What are you waiting for? Order the KFC a.m. Family Feast, and try the blueberry pancakes!

Located between the junction of Middle Road and Waterloo Street, Artichoke Cafe & Bar is a nice cafe which is 5 minutes away from Bugis.

Most of you probably read about Artichoke Cafe on other food blogs by now, so I shall go straight to the point. Artichoke Cafe at Sculpture Square, is definitely one of the best brunch places in Singapore.

However, there is still room for improvement for the service. We were there for brunch on a weekend, and they could not handle the crowd. Having said that, I do think they have good breakfast food and the cafe has a nice laid-back feel which sets the tone for a lazy afternoon.

Artichoke Restaurant is all about communal dining. Most of the family-style shared plates for dinner are around $10-$15 for appetisers and $25-$30 for main courses.

As for Weekend Brunch, they have nine items on the menu. Prices range from $9 for the Turkish Toast with homemade apple, to $14 for the Scrambled Eggs and $18 for the 65 degree slow cooked eggs with smoked salmon. If you are feeling hungry, go for the Self Destruction ($24) – which is sort of like a big breakfast with everything.

Accompanied by roasted tomatoes, toast and rocket, the Scrambled Eggs comes with either organic mushrooms ($14) or Maple Glazed Bacon Chop ($16).

We ordered both, and the Maple Glazed Bacon Chop was certainly more value-for-money filling since it came with a huge slab of Bacon Chop.

At $20, I felt that the Middle Eastern ‘baked beans’ with Merquez lamb sausage (above picture) was somewhat overpriced. There was nothing particularly outstanding as the dish only had lamb sausage, baked beans fried eggs and toast.

I’d definitely go for the Eggs Shakshouka ($20) which you see in the first picture of this post. It reminded me of the Tunisian Breakfast that I had at Wild Honey. Two eggs baked in tomato sauce with braised lamb, yogurt cheese and toast. The braised lamb was delicious.

I didn’t have the Grilled Haloumi cheese on toast ($17) with mushrooms, avocado hummus and wild rocket, but it looked quite appealing.

My favourite breakfast dish at Artichoke Restaurant was the Self Destruction ($24) – which came with crispy hash brown, country sausage gravy, melted cheddar, mushrooms and two fried eggs. The portion was huge, and it was very rich (perhaps a little too salty). Make sure you share this with someone, it is impossible to finish it on your own.

The al fresco area at Artichoke Cafe is a good place to chill out if you can take the heat. Otherwise, there are plenty of tables indoor, and they also have a Greenhouse which is like a private dining room.

Still looking for a brunch place? Why not visit Artichoke Cafe & Bar this weekend?

The original plan was to have churros at Alegro Clark Quay, unfortunately it was closed and the churros evaded me yet again. We walked along the river banks and found ourselves looking at the brunch menu from eM by the River. They serve all day breakfast (from 9am to 3pm daily), and we managed to make it for the last order.

I have been wanting to visit eM by the River for some time. They are one of the Gallery Hotel restaurants, positioned at one end of Robertson Quay (closer to Red House Seafood restaurant and Boomarang if you have difficulty locating them).

The brunch menu has standard breakfast items like Eggs Benedict ($13), poached eggs on english muffin with ham & hollandaise suace – American Breakfast ($18) with eggs, sausages, beans, mushrooms, bacons, tomato & toast – Omelette ($10) with choice of cheese, ham, tomato – pancakes ($10) with maple syrup. If breakfast food is not your thing, there’s also a variety of sandwiches and main courses available on the menu.

We were thinking about the desserts at Laurent Bernard’s, so for once, there wasn’t much room for the eggs at eM by the river. Rich and thick hollandaise sauce drizzled over the delicate poached eggs, accompanied by thinly-sliced smoked salmon on a toasted English muffin (unfortunately it’s a little soggy) — but still, there’s just something amazing about having the Eggs Royale ($14) for breakfast.

eM by the River has a 1-for-1 happy hour on Mojito during Saturday night (9pm to 11pm). Sitting beside the river and having mojito while staring at the stars above, it’s the perfect way to spend the night.

Now that I have been to eM by the River, I think they are a good alternative breakfast place if the queue at Epicurious cafe is too long. Besides, they serve daily brunch while epicurious only has weekend brunch. If you are in the mood for pasta or pizza, check out Bella Pizza which in my opinion, is one of the best pizza places in Singapore. For desserts after your meal, drop by Laurent Bernard, or Canele Patisserie. Among the many restaurants at Robertson Quay, I’m very much tempted to try Brussels Sprouts, as well as Satsuma Shochu Dining Bar at the Gallery Hotel next. How about you? Which is your favorite Robertson Quay Restaurant?

It is without a doubt that I enjoy breakfast and brunch. I have my reasons for taking so long to blog about the brunch at Wild Honey Mandarin Gallery. There was a hype when the breakfast restaurant first opened, and I wanted to wait a while for them to sort out the teething problems before I check out their all day breakfast menu.

The other reason is something more personal. All of us have dreams and I am not embarrassed to say that I had the idea of opening an all day brunch restaurant, before Hatched and Wild Honey existed. Naturally, I felt gutted when both of them entered the Singapore food scene. But that’s besides the point, I’m actually happy to see the breakfast trend picking up in Singapore and I strongly feel that there should be more breakfast places opening up to give us more options.

“FIRE! FIRE! FIRE!!!”

I almost shouted that when the waitress brought the English Breakfast ($22) to our table. I wanted everyone to evacuate the restaurant so that I could have the whole plate to myself. You may snigger, you may sneer but take a look at the photo of Wild Honey’s English Breakfast above.

This, my dear, is the dream breakfast. What more can a guy ask for when there’s scrambled eggs, sauteed mushrooms, streaky bacon, porky sausages, baked beans and grilled tomato? Even though I have been saying this quite regularly of late, I’d marry anyone who make this breakfast for me.

With a glass of icy cold milk, or a cup of warm and aromatic coffee, the English Breakfast can really make me believe in Walt Disney for once — happy endings do exist.

It burns. It burns so good. Physical pain never feel so good – it makes me feel alive.

Stewed to a color of vibrant red, the Tunisian breakfast ($18) was an excellent choice. I didn’t take caution to the scalding-hot tomato stew at all. All I saw was two delicious fried eggs crowned on top of the red, and peppery tomato stew that was accompanied by sliced chorizo sausage.

It was such an indulgence to dig the delicious bread (soft and fluffy) into the tomato stew. If this is breakfast, I do not want to have lunch and dinner anymore.

The Mediterranean sandwich ($12) paled in comparison with the other breakfast items. I have totally nothing against sandwiches. But to me, it’s merely two halves of bread slapped together (in this case, toasted ciabatta) with some fillings in between. Maybe it’s just me, but wilted spinach with feta and mozzarella cheese didn’t appeal to me when there’s sausages, pancakes or eggs to choose from.

Drizzled with the bright hollandaise sauce, the salmon was served on a bed of potato rosti and asparagus. I liked how the salmon broke off when it came into contact with the spoon. While it didn’t come close to the melt-in-the-mouth effect, the rich and creamy hollandaise sauce complimented the sweet salmon of the Scandinavian breakfast ($24) perfectly.

* * *

There are complains about the service at Wild Honey and I can understand why. It seems a little ridiculous to pay for the 10% service charge when we have to queue up at the counter to order our food. From what I understand, they do not allow reservations as they are quite packed during peak hours. So if you want to enjoy a Sunday brunch, please go during odd hours to avoid the crowd during lunch and dinner.

Otherwise, I’d think that Wild Honey is a lovely place since there aren’t that many restaurants serving all day brunch in Orchard. For a restaurant that is located in a shopping mall, Wild Honey stands out with its cozy and intimate ambiance. The breakfast food is not cheap, most of the items on the breakfast menu are around 20 bucks (before taxes). But given that they allow you the freedom to have breakfast food during odd timings, Wild Honey is one of the Mandarin Gallery Restaurants that I can see myself going back to.

// Wild Honey is included in my Guide to Restaurants in Orchard Singapore

Sundays are so very nice. I get to sleep in late and nobody can point a finger at me. Oh what the heck, I can even have a burger for breakfast and you will not judge me for this.

How many times have I blog about the breakfast at Epicurious Cafe? How many different types of eggs have I ordered, and how often can I revisit Epicurious Cafe without seeming crazy? If it’s up to me (without consulting my wallet), I’d definitely come here for breakfast every weekend since Railmall is just five minutes away.

Contrary to what most people, it is OKAY to have burgers for breakfast. Why not? Since I had burgers at midnight before, I don’t see why I can’t have them for breakfast.

Ladies and gentlemen, the Epicurious burger ($18) serves one if your name is Brad, or two if you don’t have a big appetite. Add cheese, bacon and egg ($2 each, or $4 for all 3 toppings) for the “full epicurious burger experience”. This baby is humongous!

I started breakfast with Pancakes ($7 for 3) of course. A lot of syrup was consumed and I ate the three pancakes on my own. What an achievement! It may not seems like a lot to you, but pancakes mean the world to me. I’d marry any one who makes me pancakes for breakfast.

One of my favorite breakfast items on the Epicurious Cafe’s menu is the Baked Eggs with toast soldiers ($6.50 for 1). We ordered two portions and the first one that arrived was splendid. There’s something special about the combination of eggs and bacon in semi-molten form. Unfortunately, the second serving was rushed out of the oven way too early, and the baked eggs was too watery.

The Cafe offered to replace the Baked eggs with the Choco-nana sandwich ($6). Now, nutella is surely one of the best creations on earth. Spreading a thick layer of the wholesome nutella on white bread is the most sensible thing a person can do.

My middle name is nutella.

Look, I’m not saying Epicurious Cafe has the best brunch in Singapore. But for the kind of price and the comfort food they serve, Epicurious cafe is definitely still one of my favorite breakfast places in Singapore. I’m probably not going to blog about their breakfast again. So if you know what’s good for you, go to Epicurious cafe (or any brunch places) today for a good Sunday brunch.

// Update: Mykii Brasserie Cafe is now closed

Many food lovers always like to go Holland Village as it has always been one of the popular dining spots in Singapore that has so many different restaurants. I recently came to know that Mykii restaurant actually serves brunch on weekends. It wasn’t even on my list of Brunch Places in Singapore when I had compiled it back then.

Breakfast at Mykii Brasserie Cafe is available on weekends from 11.30am – 4pm, and there are three brunch menus to choose from: Hearty Deluxe ($38), Gourmet Chic ($28) and Classique ($28). We had a Hearty Deluxe brunch set which came with a starter of homemade bread & muffin/scone/cupcake, Mykii Brunch platter, a choice of main course, dessert, coffee/tea and fruit juice. I know, that’s quite an handful isn’t it? In addition to that, we shared another Gourmet Chic brunch set which was essentially about the same as the Hearty Deluxe brunch set – less the main course.

Most of the time, I prefer to order from the ala carte menu, rather than having a brunch buffet. There’s no need for so much variety for breakfast, I’m a cereal-eggs-pancakes-desserts kind of guy. I like to keep brunch simple – nothing too heavy.

The scones are sturdy, yet crumby, hard on the outside yet so moist inside, it’s the type that I will love to have every morning. On the other hand, the Oreo cupcake was just okay, very sweet and a little too dry. The homemade bread, however was excellent. While waiting for the food to come, we couldn’t help but spread the room-temperature butter onto the bread and wolfed down two slices each.

The Eggs Benedict was more than just a pretty face. The magical combination of eggs and bacon always works. While the holladaise sauce wasn’t as buttery as I would like it to be, it’s just assuring to have Eggs Benedict for breakfast.

Mykii’s Brunch platter consisted of French chipolata sausage, grilled fresh tomatoes, streaky bacon with farmhouse eggs. For the eggs, we chose to have the ocean’s catch omelette with squids and prawn with a tangy thai-sweet chili mayonnaise. Hearty and satisfying, this is my classic interpretation of a big breakfast.

By the time the Iceland Smoked Salmon Sandwich arrived on our table, our stomach was already almost filled to the brim. I had no idea why it was named the Iceland smoked salmon sandwich, but I do know for a fact that the fries that accompanied the sandwich were delicious. It was nicely cut, and had a great potato taste. They were also light and not too salty; we finished every fry without feeling guilty.

If you have been around for some time, you will know that I have always been against the marriage of chocolate and banana. There are plenty of different options like orange chocolate and chocolate mint, but yes, I do not like chocolate banana.

The Chocolate Banana cake here did not change my opinion of the popular dessert, but at least it wasn’t that bad. For one, the bulk of the cake was chocolate ganache and only a thin layer was the banana component. I have nothing against banana, but chocolate banana doesn’t work for me.

I was elated when the dessert menu had a choice of Sweet Morning Platter, which was petite old English pancakes with pear compote, smoothie shooter, and vanilla bean gelato. When the dessert came, the size of the pancakes caught us by surprise. Again, I blamed myself for not reading the menu carefully, petite old English pancakes.. Yes it’s petite, small, tiny or whatever vocabularies you can think of.

Well, it wasn’t too bad. It’s pancakes, you know – pancakes always taste good. The slightly sourish smoothie shooter provided a good counterbalance to the sweet duo of pear compote and ice cream. Ooh, there’s vanilla beans! Perfect. Just the way I wanted to end a good and hearty brunch.

Compared with the other brunch places in Singapore, Mykii probably won’t be among my favorites, but that’s not because it’s not good. The food was pretty decent, not top-notch, but good enough. Their brunch menu really spoils me with so much food, and I’m very sure that my stomach will hold a protest very soon if this goes on.

Actually come to think of it, the beautiful part about breakfast food is the simplicity of it. Having a cup of coffee while reading Sunday Times, beginning breakfast with starter-eggs-mains-desserts, and most importantly, having it with your favorite person – what more can you ask for?

Go and have a good breakfast today! Sundays are meant for brunch.

I’ve a pleasant surprise when Billy asked me after our pigged-out, if I’m interested to visit him in Central coast, and when he mentioned sun, beach, and food – yes of course, I’ll love to!

It took me one and a half hours train ride from Central station to get to Terrigal; a major coastal suburb of Central coast, which is located north of Sydney. Upon arriving there, we went to a cafe patisserie, the fat goose for brunch.

We had no idea that the Grilled lamb fry ($21.50) was actually fried lamb’s liver, until the waitress clarified with us. It was served on creamy mashed potatoes with caramelized onions, and crispy bacon. Having tried pig liver, foie gras (goose liver), and duck pate (liver), I must say the lamb fry has an even gamier taste.

The wharfie ($16.50) had Toulouse sausages served on a seed mustard hush, topped with a gorgeous poached egg and covered with wild rockets. Pity there’s no hollandaise sauce though.

I’m sure, you have a different stomach for desserts, and I hope you will be salivating over the picture of the chocolate tart.

In the heart of Terrigal, there’s a rocky cliff called ‘the Skillion’ which provided an magnificent view of the long stretch of beaches. My dear, this is the place for our retirement in the future.

Sitting by the beach and watch the sun sets by the beautiful ocean, I knew this was going to be one of my best meals in Sydney. And it was. Like what Billy had told me, I’d go as far as saying this is one of the best fish & chips in Central coast!

I was very fortunate to be able to witness the cooking skill of Billy first-hand, he was preparing the Bo Ssam, a Korean cuisine where steamed pork is wrapped in lettuce leaf then accompanied by lots of condiments including kimchi, ssam sauce, for the Sydney Food Blogger picnic. And you wouldn’t know the dedication and effort put into making the dish unless you were there; he’d drizzled the sauce (oil released from the pork) over the meat on the hourly mark, the process repeats for six times , yes, it took six hours of roasting.

Searing hot sauteed mushrooms, crispy bacon, sunny side-up & golden brown toast for breakfast. This was in every way, the perfect breakfast anyone could ask for.

I had a great time in Terrigal, thank you Billy for inviting me to your house!

I wanted an adventure, and I wanted something different. Not those dressed-up-to-the-nines fancy dinners in the best restaurants – those are not really my type. There are other factors that will make a great meal, and I was determined to have a memorable time there.

In the twelve days that I was in Australia, you’d not believe the amount of food that went into my stomach; I refused to stand on the weighing scale now – I probably gained an additional five kilos, everyday it was food, more food, and even more food. Besides stuffing myself full with everything that I can grab, and enjoying the magnificent scenaries there, I got to talk with a lot of backpackers while staying in hostels, and also met up with the amazing Sydney food bloggers – they are definitely the highlights of my trip.

Sydneysiders love Bills, and I love the Sydneysiders for the way they enjoy their breakfast. Bills is a cafe opened by the famous chef Bill Granger, the concept is easy – serve the most gorgeous scrambled eggs and tasty ricotta pancakes in a simple cafe, and voila, you get all the people coming in for breakfast.

‘You have to try the eggs while you are in Australia’, gushed one of my friend a while ago when I told her I’m going to Sydney. Sydneysiders really love their breakfast, on a normal weekday there’s so many places serving brunch. Because of the differences in culture, you can hardly find much places in Singapore that do that but here, you’d thought that the people do not need to work and it seems like they do not have to work when I saw so many of them slowly enjoying a laid-back & causal breakfast at 10am where most people are supposed to be in the office, working.

There was however, no Eggs Benedict at Bills, so I had their popular Scrambled eggs on sour dough ($16) – and it was good! The one sprig of leave in the middle somehow seemed to make the eggs glowed with radiance, and there’s the just-right consistency in the texture and taste of the eggs. The butter slides off the toasted golden-brown sour dough easily, and the scrambled eggs just goes so well with the toast. The portion would probably deceive your mind that you need to order something else as add-ons, but by the time I was done, my stomach was so full that I couldn’t possibly eat anything else, well, maybe except for the delicious-looking ricotta pancakes that everybody is craving about.

‘Come to Sydney for fine restaurants and go to Melbourne to experience the cafe culture.’ I’m not entirely sure on that statement, since there’s dozens of wonderful cafes just in the surry hill/balmain area. One of them is Cafe Nookie at Cleveland street. Technically speaking it is not a cafe since there’s no seats for dining in, customers take away the self-brew coffee from the good hands of owner Ben. Cafe Nookie is more like a coffee-in-the-hole kind of place, and it’s definitely the smallest cafe in Sydney, pretty cool eh?

I walk through the streets of Surry Hills and my heart fluttered with a sort of feeling that I couldn’t quite describe – I’m so in love with this place. There’s plenty of trendy fashionable boutiques, and chic cafes just around every corner. The whole place is so quaint and dainty that it doesn’t seem to be in the city area.

Cafe Ish is exactly like how I will like a cafe to be, white walls with sunlight coming through the windows, serving nice coffee and comfort food. Howard & Teresa brought me here for lunch, and we took some time glancing through the menu before deciding to order Eggs Benedict, Emu damper, & Soft shell crab omelette.

I think the reason why we can embrace cafes freely rather than fine dining restaurants is because deep down inside everyone of us, most people have a dream to open a cafe, someday. A small-ish, causal chic cafe which serves comfort food, a place where people return and chill out all day, a place almost like their own home. It is not difficult to see why Cafe Giulia is immensely popular with the locals, they serve a wide array of food that includes eggs, salad, pasta, sandwich, burgers; comfort food with a reasonable price range. Coffee is another hallmark of a good cafe. Here, they keep it simple to mocha, and ice coffee, with an impressive selection of fresh fruit juices.
