Tiong Hoe Gim Kee Trading Co is a reputable pioneer in Singapore’s competitive coffee industry. Its founder, Mr Tan Tiong Hoe, has more than half a century worth of experience in roasting coffee beans.
In 2014, the family-run business opened Tiong Hoe Specialty Coffee at Stirling Road in Queenstown HDB Estate and has since then raised the bar of specialty coffee in Singapore.
The cosy little cafe ran on a full house on a Saturday afternoon when we popped by—a testimony to Tiong Hoe Specialty Coffee’s popularity. Indeed, this cafe is a paradise for all coffee lovers. While most of us head there for a good cuppa, budding baristas can also look forward to a splendid showcase of brewing equipment, espresso bar accessories and coffee beans from all over the world.
Set foot in and you will be greeted by gigantic sacks of coffee beans and a crowd of coffee enthusiasts. An irresistible coffee aroma permeates the entire venue; oh boy, is this heaven?
Tiong Hoe Specialty Coffee boasts several roasted single-origin and an espresso blend. Prices range from S$13 for a 250-gram package of Gachala Espresso Blend to S$80 for a 200-gram package of Wallenford Blue Mountain Single-origin.
We had a fragrant cup of Cappuccino (S$4.50) which was prepared with a guest blend. Coffee blends are typically on a rotational basis, which means you will probably get to savour a different type of coffee each time you visit Tiong Hoe Specialty Coffee.
The Pollen White Cold Brew Coffee (S$6.50) is a delightful, creamy and smooth beverage. The cold drink is infused with pure raw honey, which explains the sweet floral aftertaste.
Note that there is currently no food served at Tiong Hoe Specialty Coffee except a small selection of cakes.
