One of our all-time favourite Italian restaurants in Singapore, Ristorante Da Valentino is closing on 24 December after 18 years of operations.

Opened by chef-owner Valentino Valtulina, Ristorante Da Valentino started as a humble Italian restaurant in a residential neighbourhood at Rifle Range Road in Bukit Timah before moving to The Grandstand.

For those of you who have never had the chance to dine at Ristorante Da Valentino, it is a cosy restaurant which dishes out authentic and delicious Italian dishes and you can always be guaranteed of a great meal here.

Have Truffle Pasta generously topped with freshly shaved truffles and dig into other classic Italian dishes such as the tasty Squid Ink Fettuccine with Crab Meat In Tomato Cream Sauce.

Before you head down to Ristorante Da Valentino, you should know that they are already fully booked from now until 24 December and they have stopped taking reservations and takeaway orders.

All is not lost for fans of Ristorante Da Valentino; Chef Valentino did not rule out a comeback in the future and they may come back with a new concept in the future.

Glacier, a minimalist botanical-themed cafe in Lavender known for its brunch fare and Mochi Waffles, will be closing on 31 Jan 2023.

Hafary Holdings has acquired a row of shophouses along Lavender Street, Foch Road and Tyrwhitt Road to build its new flagship store and Glacier Cafe will have to move out in January next year.

Opened by the team behind Onalu—a bagel specialist at SMU—Glacier is an all-white cafe which offers the standard cafe fare, coffee and desserts.

Glacier’s menu is small and concise, with prices ranging from S$16 to S$24 for a main course.

The Glacier’s Big Breakfast comes with perfectly-cooked scrambled eggs that are runny, bacon strips, German pork bratwurst, roasted truffle baby potatoes, mushrooms, salad and brioche toast.

Glacier will be closed indefinitely and they currently do not have any plans to reopen at a new location. Drop by the cafe to have brunch and coffee before their last day of operation on 31 Jan 2023.

Popular cake shop, Cake Spade has just announced that it will be closing in a few months’ time. This news came as a surprise as it only opened its 2-Storey Flagship Cafe at Ann Siang Hill/Chinatown in April earlier this year.

Cake Spade started as a small cake shop at Orchid Hotel along Tras Link almost 10 years ago before moving to 83 Tanjong Pagar Road. They opened their Flagship Pink Cafe in a shop house at 283 South Bridge Road at Ann Siang Hill/Chinatown.

From Strawbery Tofu Cheesecake, Lychee Rose Cake, Red Velvet Cake to Hummingbird Cake, the cake selection at Cake Spade will make you go weak in the knees.

The team behind Cake Spade gave a teaser “Goodbyes are not forever” on their Instagram, so there is a possibility that they are looking to move to another location or rebrand to a new concept in the future.

Until then, you have a few more months to enjoy your favourite cakes at Cake Spade before they put up the shutters at their current location.

Opened by two young second-generation of Bai Nian Niang Dou Foo, Nic & Tom Eatery is a casual eatery in Serangoon Gardens which serves affordable mains that are mostly priced under S$10 nett.

It has announced on its social media pages that it will be closing its eatery in Serangoon Gardens on 10 June 2022 as the landlord has decided to increase the rental.

Other than the signature Bai Nian Hakka Yong Tau Foo and fried chicken wings, Nic & Tom Eatery’s menu features an interesting range of mains including Seafood Cheese Beehoon, Long Jiang Pig Leg Rice, and Ee Foo Noodle.

Nic & Tom Eatery has mentioned that it is looking for a new location, but it has yet to find a suitable spot. We are keeping our fingers crossed that they will be able to reopen at another location soon.

Established in 2016, Captain K—known for its multi-tiered Korean Seafood Tower and premium Hot Pot—is closing in April 2022.

Don Quijote Spanish Restaurant is closing its cloud kitchen at 7th Mile Coffeeshop for good and their last day of operation will be 31 March 2022.

What a shame.

Known for its signature Paellas, Spanish tapas, Tomahawk steaks and churros, Don Quijote Spanish Restaurant was previously located at Dempsey Hill but they had to move out in 2020 as they were badly hit by the Covid situation.

They continued to dish out solid Spanish food and large-format steaks at a neighbourhood coffeeshop at Toh Yi Drive in Bukit Timah.

Don Quijote Spanish Restaurant serves one of the best Spanish paellas that we’ve had in Singapore and we are sad to hear that they will be closing for good.

If you are a regular and love their food, you have one more month to patronise them and order your favourite dishes. You can order from them via their website or dine at their outlet at 7th Mile Coffeeshop which is a 3-minute walk from Beauty World MRT Station.

Omakase Buger is closing all outlets in Singapore by 27 October 2021. The burger restaurant has been around for 9 years and it is best known for its cheeseburgers, chicken burgers and fries.

According to Omakase Burger’s FB page, the brand will be going into “hibernation, meditation and a bit of self-improvement”.

Omakase Burger hinted that they may make a comeback, but nothing concrete has been announced.

If you want to try Omakase Burger’s burgers for the last time, their flagship outlet at Orchard Central will be closing on 25 October 2021.

Grub Burger Bistro will be closing its outlet at Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park by January 2022.

The casual bistro has been at Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park for 9 years and it has just received news that their lease will not be renewed and they will have to move out by January 2022.

Grub Burger Bistro is actively searching for a new location to move to but their priority at this moment is to make sure their crew are taken care of.

Famous roast meat eatery, Foong Kee Coffee Shop is closing on 15 June 2021.

Foong Kee Coffee Shop is one of the best Chinese roast meat stalls in Singapore. It’s a rather unassuming coffee shop at first glance, but when you take that first bite, you’d understand why the queues don’t ever seem to disperse till lunch hours are over.

In an interview with 8 Days, Foong Kee’s chef-owner Derrick Wong, 58, confirms that his shop unit has been sold to a new owner who is starting another business there.

The owner mentioned that he is closing his roast meat eatery as he needs a rest after working for more than 20 years. But he did not rule out a possibility of a comeback in the future.

If you are planning to make a trip to Foong Kee Coffee Shop before it closes for good on 15 June 2021, here’s what you have to try.

It is undeniable that their roast pork is fantastic. The ratio of fat to lean pork meat was just right, and the crispy crackling skin had such a satisfying crunch to it. The savoury marinate really did permeate through the meat itself as every bite was so flavourful.

The char siew didn’t lose out either. The caramelised crust had a wonderful char and smokiness to it, with the slightly burnt edges playing off the sweetness of the sauce. The fat on the pork wasn’t overwhelming either and was just enough to keep the lean meat moist enough.

While they’re more famous for the former two, we felt that their duck deserved much praise. The cuts of duck meat were absolutely succulent and tender, with its natural game meat taste amplified in a pleasant umami way without being too heavy. The skin was also really thin and crisp, which we liked a lot.

Though roast ducks have a tendency to have a thick layer of white fat on it, this was just the right amount as the fat melted like butter and gave the meat an extra fragrant burst of flavour. It was oh so sinful, but oh so good.

The chilli deserved a special mention too. Rather than the usual viscous and sweet chilli paste, theirs resembled more of the Thai variety. It was sweet, tangy and spicy all in one. We appreciated that it brought out another element of flavour to the roast meats without covering it up like the usual chilli paste.

It will be undergoing a major renovation for 3 months and the new Black Cow 2.0 will have a zen garden in the restaurant.

Established in 2016, Black Cow specialises in prime cuts of genuine Japanese Black Wagyu and high-quality ingredients derived from the seasonal best of different agricultural regions in Japan.

#1 PABLO CHEESE TART

When Pablo Cheese Tart first opened at Wisma Atria back in 2017, we remember seeing snaking queues along its storefront; everyone wanted a piece of that coveted cheese tart. Despite major fanfare, they ceased operations in March 2019 after 19 months.

Pablo fans can still look forward to their gooey, fluffy tarts at their overseas outlets: Japan, Indonesia, Taiwan, Vietnam, Canada and Philippines.

#2 GUDETAMA CAFE

Despite opening to much hype three years ago, Gudetama Café has ended their contract with Sanrio Co., and will be shutting doors on 17 November 2019.

However, fans have one last chance before they wave goodbye to this languid egg. From 10 October to 17 November, Gudetama Café will be having a special discount on their egg-citing menu and merchandise.

#3 MY MELODY CAFE

Opened in 2018, My Melody Café is conveniently located right beside Gudetama Café in Suntec City. Just like the egg-themed establishment, My Melody Café is set to close on 17 November 2019, and will be offering discounted prices on their food and merchandise from 10 October onwards.

Sanrio-themed cafés have really taken a blow in Singapore; perhaps kawaii culture is not a hit with the locals here. We will be sad to see the hooded bunny go!

#4 BAKE CHEESE TART

Hailing from Hokkaido, BAKE Cheese Tart took the nation by storm with its cheesy goodness. Their other outlets have shut down, with remaining flagship store at Ion Orchard set to close at the end of October this year.

We will definitely miss this Japanese tart for many months to come, though this is not the end of their journey. BAKE Cheese Tart is opening sister store Croquant Chou ZakuZaku, which will occupy BAKE’s former space!

#5 HELLO KITTY ORCHID GARDEN

Hello Kitty Orchid Garden was the first 24/7 Hello Kitty café to set up shop in Singapore! Well received by Hello Kitty and Dear Daniel fans, everyone was eager to try out their themed, Instagrammable goodies.

Yet, another one bites the dust, as we soon said our goodbyes to this well-loved feline paradise back on 8 February 2019.

#6 JPOT

Famed for their Singapore-style hotpot, Jpot is one hotpot chain we will never forget. Their signature soup broths, such as their Fish Head Soup and Jpot Superior Broth Soup, were so iconic, they remain undefeated as one of Singapore’s best hotpots!

They too, have closed down all their outlets. Their last outlet at Tampines 1 ceased operations on 16 June 2019.

#7 NON ENTREE DESSERTS

We are all familiar with Non Entrée Desserts, a café specialising in innovative, local savoury-looking desserts. During the four years they have been here, they have greatly inspired our café scene.

Sadly, they have decided to shut down the business, and their last day is on 20 October 2019. Do drop by the café and try out their desserts one last time — we promise you won’t forget it.

#8 INDOCHINE SUPERTREE

This iconic, elevated restaurant and bar has been an al fresco dining venue for many couples, best known for its scenic views and atas food. Despite being a successful eatery, Gardens by the Bay did not renew IndoChine’s lease.

IndoChine Supertree has closed its doors end of April this year and converted to an observatory deck. Thankfully, diners can still visit their CHIJMES outlet!

#9 DOME CAFE

Esteemed among locals for serving homely Australian cuisine and coffee for over 20 years, many Dome Café regulars were sad to see them leave. They were even one of the first few cafes serving specialty coffee!

Dome Café originally had five outlets in Singapore, and their last branch at Parkway Parade officially pulled down its shutters on 23 June 2019.

We have witnessed the closure of various fast food chains and overseas diners in Singapore, and now Chili’s has joined its ranks. The American casual dining chain originally had four outlets here, but they have closed all of them as of 24 March 2019.

#11 GLORY CATERING PERANAKAN RESTAURANT

Acclaimed for their Nyonya dishes, popiah and kueh, Glory Catering Peranakan Restaurant has finally decided to call it a day after six decades of operating the eatery. Though they have shut their doors on 31 August 2019, the folks here are still providing catering services!

This iconic Katong restaurant will always remain in our hearts, and we will miss heading there for their traditional comfort food.

Non Entrée Desserts—known for its creative desserts such as Avalanche Lava Cake, Bak Chor Mee dessert and Kaya Toast dessert—has just announced that it will be closing on 20 Oct 2019.

The dessert parlour at Rangoon Road was created with the philosophy to provide premium fine dining quality desserts at reasonable prices and they made waves with its avalanche lava cakes.

They became even more popular with the creation of Singapore-style desserts including the Bak Chor Mee Dessert, Kaya Toast Dessert, Nasi Lemak Dessert and many more.

After 4 years, the show at Non Entrée Desserts is finally coming to an end. Loyal fans of the creative sweet treats at Non Entrée Desserts have 2 more months to enjoy them.
