Singaporeans need their daily dose of caffeine and there is really no lack of cafes in town that provide good coffee. While most cafes are starting to look similar, FabCafe – a futuristic cafe with state-of-the-art new fabrication technology like 3D printing and laser cutting – has opened up in the ArtScience Museum that aims to bring technology, creativity and food together.
Nestled in between the shophouses on Joo Chiat Road is Sinpopo Brand, one of our favourite cafes with a strong touch of nostalgia. The cafe boasts a retro rustic ambience – think wooden tables, checkered floor tiles, antique light bulbs, Bruce Lee posters and songs from the 60′s.
Nothing spells comfort to a Singaporean more than Nasi Lemak and Hor Fun – which is exactly what Sinpopo Brand is known for. However, what distinguishes Sinpopo Brand from the usual hawker centre food besides the vintage interiors of the cafe, is how they deliver local food that comes with a twist.
On our previous visit, we shared several of our favourite bites from Sinpopo Brand. Since then, the concept cafe has introduced new additions. There is a Salted Vegetable Duck Soup that totally reminded us of grandma’s cooking, a Muah Chee Salad and an extremely photogenic Gula Melaka Chendol Parfait!

Tucked away in the Yio Chu Kang heartlands is newcomer Prodigal Roasters, an independent specialty coffee shop that serves caffeinated beverages to nearby residents and basically anyone who loves a good cuppa.
The tiny cafe’s location might seem relatively obscure but is actually easily reachable within an eight-minute stroll from Yio Chu Kang MRT. So, is it worth visiting?
The Pound is a specialty Dutch iced coffee shop located on the first floor of Sultan Plaza. The unassuming one-month-old establishment is not your typical pretentious hipster-looking cafe, but a small bistro with a very strong focus on cold drip coffees and cake rolls.
Previously located along Beach Road, Candour Coffee—a Melbourne-inspired specialty coffee shop—has shifted to 72 Duxton Road and it is a spot that all coffee lovers have to check out. The minimalistic cafe directly imports their beans from Dukes Coffee Roasters and Market Lane Coffee. For those not the in the know, these two roasteries hail from Melbourne and are exceptionally popular for their high-quality blends.
Melburnian coffee aside, Candour Coffee’s menu also features a selection of MAN CHA teas, wholesome savouries, delectable sweet treats and alcoholic drinks! We dropped by one weekend and were pleasantly surprised by the quality of their cuppas.
The sheer number of artisanal bakeries in Singapore has left us all cake lovers spoilt for choice – and we are certainly not complaining. Pantler is one awesome bakery in the CBD that will chase all your Monday Blues away with their gourmet creations.
Cake is serious business here; both founders have previously worked in the pastry-making departments of Joël Robuchon Singapore and the Grand Hyatt Tokyo. What you can expect at Pantler is a selection of classic sweet treats, savoury patisseries and contemporary desserts.
