Inspired by the Moroccan city of Marrakesh, La Fez Café & Bakery is a new Muslim-owned cafe with iconic horseshoe arches, rose pink and gold interiors, and Mediterranean dishes.

Located next to the Chinese-Indonesian restaurant Kota 88 in Siglap, La Fez Café & Bakery is currently still in the soft launch stage and reservations are highly recommended.

On the menu, you can find a selection of All-day Brunch dishes including Riad Breakfast (S$11.90), Majorelle Shakshuka with Feta Cheese (S$19.90) and Kesra Avocados on Soughdough (S$18.90).

The Moroccan-inspired cafe also has mains that are prepared from the fire oven or cooked in traditional Moroccan earthenware such as Moroccan Harissa Chicken Legs (S$17.90), Fez Cous Cous with chicken (S$28.90) and Moroccan-style Rotisserie Chicken (S$32.90).

The Bravery—one of the more popular Muslim-owned cafes in Singapore—is moving from its current location in Lavender to a new space in the Central Business District near Telok Ayer Street and Amoy Street.

The coffee shop is best known for its hearty brunch fare and excellent coffee. On the menu, you can expect brunch dishes including Bagel Set, Brave Omelette as well as our favourite Pancakes Stack with banana slices and cream cheese.

We are particularly fond of their signature Lavender Latte which boasts a really nice fragrance with a creamy finish. The cappuccino and cold brew are also consistently good.

The Bravery is currently waiting for SFA inspection this week and they should be ready to open their doors soon.

Affordable Soufflé Pancakes Cafe, Fluff Stack is now officially halal-certified. It’s probably the first Japanese soufflé pancake cafe in Singapore which is halal-certified.

One thing that definitely sets Fluff Stack apart from other soufflé pancake cafés has got to be the price point. While soufflé pancakes tend to be priced at a premium, the ones at Fluff Stack start from S$8.80 which is pretty affordable!

Fluff Stack started in Suntec City last year and it has recently opened its second outlet at Northpoint City.

Situated along Haji Lane, Moosh Softserve is the latest addition to the hipster street. Primarily serving soft serve (for takeaways only), this Muslim-owned soft serve shop currently has six flavours including classic flavours such as Strawberry and Blueberry.

Besides the classics, Moosh Softserve also offers unique dessert-inspired flavours such as Apple Crumble, S’mores, and the popular Ondeh Ondeh.

If you are looking for some refreshing sweet treats to cool off in the sweltering heat, Moosh Softserve is where you should head for.

The Ondeh Ondeh soft serve (Regular: S$4.50 / Large: S$6.90) features a gula melaka soft serve base, lined with pandan sauce and topped with desiccated coconut, coconut flakes and even more pandan sauce. Despite all the different elements added, the soft serve was extremely silky and creamy without being too sweet.

No surprises here—Fresh Fruits Lab (FFL) is our favourite cafe in the east of Singapore. This has never changed since our first visit in 2015.

The themed cafe has seen a revamp recently and it is nothing short of amazing. Still keeping their core laboratory theme and incorporating fruits into their menu, FFL now boasts a colourful, pastel interior that is both whimsical and photogenic.

It has also become a kids-friendly dining outlet with a play corner for your little ones as well as a low-salt kids menu that is so reasonably priced.

The balance in texture between the smooth top, creamy middle and crispy biscuit base is surreal! Another Nutella must-try is the Nutella Snowy Brioche. One word—irresistible.

For those who are not fans of this heavenly hazelnut spread (are there even any?), fret not for there are other tantalising options for you to sink your teeth into. Mixed Fruits Pavlova, Thai Milk Tea Cheesecake and Pandan Gula Melaka slices are just some to keep your eyes peeled for.

The layers go like this—chendol soft-serve followed by Gula Melaka syrup and another swirl of soft-serve that is eventually sprinkled with green pandan jelly and coconut flakes. You get one final drizzle of that sweet Gula Melaka sauce.

Santap is a new muslim-owned cafe in Little India by the good folks from The Black Hole Group—who is behind Working Title and The Mad Sailors.

Santap, which means to eat luxuriously in Malay, offers a menu of healthy eats from sandwiches to stellar rice bowls. All of which are plated so beautifully that it would be a crime not to snap a shot of it for the ‘gram’.

Nestled within the newly opened boutique hotel, The Daulat—just a 5-minute walk from Rochor MRT station—this Muslim-owned cafe exudes a charming ambience and a cosy vibe that is just perfect for lounging about in the afternoon.

With both an indoor and al fresco space that is cool and cosy, Santap is a great spot for lounging or dining at any time of the day. Where space is concerned, the indoor space features only one communal dining table and although beautifully decorated, may not be ideal for big groups.

The al fresco area, on the other hand, is considerably more spacious and the breeze coupled with the easy listening tunes make it a great spot to chill at.

Featuring ingredients such as avocado, black beans, pineapple, red and white daikon and of course, a generous serving of fresh prawns, The Shrimp Rice Bowl (S$15) is sure to intrigue health nuts everywhere. It also comes served with aromatic brown rice that is spiced with things like cardamom and cumin.

The prawns were cooked simply with a garlic-infused butter which added a nice umami touch and played off nicely with the prawn’s natural sweetness.

For a more protein-packed meal, you can also opt for the Beef Rice Bowl (S$15) that comes with a whole range of wholesome ingredients, such as a poached egg, cherry tomatoes, corn, red onions, brown rice and alfalfa just to name a few. But the main star is the tender strips of lean beef.

The beef had a mild hickory smoke flavour to it, which went surprisingly well with their housemade Tonkatsu sauce, and the various veggie elements provided many different tastes and textures to brighten the entire dish up.

All in all, this dish makes for a pretty substantial (and healthy) meal that will have you feeling full yet incredibly pleased with yourself.

Every lunch set comes with a complimentary cold brew tea, and boy oh boy is it the perfect thing to have on a scorching afternoon.

We were really impressed that the baristas here use better quality tea and actually take the time and effort to garnish the drink properly, especially for something that’s complimentary.

Expect to see a wide variety of options on their menu offering Western delights such as pasta, seafood and meat. Visitors have the option of topping up S$5 to complete their meal with mushroom soup and a drink when they purchase a main course.

PASTA

The Vongole Spaghetti (S$13.80+) is a light, yet flavourful pasta dish that had us digging our forks into it for more. It may look like a simple recipe put together but perfect timing, temperature and an experienced chef makes all the difference. This Italian classic is garnished with garlic chilli, parsley and extremely generous portions of freshly dug clams.

With the truffle trend not dying anytime soon in Singapore, we have been seeing an increase in various types of food choices being paired with it. You can imagine how excited we were when we found out that Savoury has also hopped on the bandwagon too!

For those who prefer something heavier on their taste buds, the Beef Truffle Linguine (S$16.80+) will not disappoint. The aromatic truffle smell hit us before we even took a bite, building up our expectations.

We are glad to say that everything from this dish turned out to be what we had hoped for—mouthwatering slices of beef tenderloin enveloped in rich brown sauce infused with truffle oil.

Other pasta choices on the menu include Black Pepper Chicken Aglio Olio Spaghetti (S$11.80+), Seafood Alfredo Linguine (S$14.80+) and Marina Linguine (S$14.80+).

MEAT AND SEAFOOD

Nothing called out to us more than the Lamb Shank (S$26.80+), looking all glorious while lying on a bed of creamy mash and doused in dark brown sauce.Lamb shanks can be tough if they are not well done but that was not the case at Savoury, for the meat was tender and tasted divine, especially when paired with the sauce. It was a clear winner for us.

Fans of duck confits can look forward to this timeless French classic here at Savoury. The duck leg is fragrant and juicy, hiding underneath a coat of golden brown crispy skin.

This delicious Duck Confit (S$15.80+) sits atop warm buttery mash potatoes and was served with an appetising orange-brown sauce.

The pan-fried Salmon (S$18.80+) had a very crispy skin and we heard a crunch as we dug into it with our knives—an indication of a chef’s expertise at whipping up a well-done salmon.

The Chicken Thigh (S$14.80+) features a pan-fried boneless chicken—tender when served warm to the table, and spiced up significantly with the lemon pesto cream sauce.

DESSERT

No one can say they made a visit to Savoury without ordering their Signature Waffle. You can choose to have one (S$14+) or two (S$18.50+) scoops of their iconic gelato on top of the waffle.

The fluffy waffle is made on the spot and served warm, complete with Chantilly cream, chocolate sauce and various fresh fruits that have been cooked in cinnamon sauce for an extra boost of sweetness!

Apart from the waffle, their dessert menu also encompasses the Mao Shan Wang Lava Cake (S$13.80+), Brownie (S$11.80) and Crème Brûlée (S$11.50+ for one scoop and S$16+ for two scoops of gelato).

And last but certainly not the least, anyone who steps in to Savoury would totally be drawn to the massive gelato counter. All gelato are handmade in house, and the recipes are created by the boss himself. They are definitely worth a special trip down to Savoury!

The number of cafes in Rangoon Road has grown steadily over the past years and the quaint Farrer Park neighbourhood is now home to an eclectic mix of old-school coffee shops, hipster-looking cafes and whatnot.

Icebox Cafe – one of the newer kids on the block – has come up with its version of Dominique Ansel-inspired Cookie and Milk Shots.

Icebox Cafe is Singapore’s very first halal-certified specialty bingsu cafe, but the menu features more than just Korean ice-cold treats. Indulge in sinful over-the-top shakes, tasty fluffy toasts and of course, do not leave the cafe until you have tried their lovely Cookie Shots (S$6.90) served with a choice of ice cream.

Icebox Cafe’s Cookie Shot is served on a triangular dish with a jug of milk and your preferred flavour of ice cream. The cookie cup is coated with chocolate at the rim and boasts a delightful doughy texture.

Fill the edible cup with milk and sip from it, or start nibbling on the cookie shot glass. The cookie cup is not overwhelmingly sweet and has a pleasantly mild salty aftertaste.

Admittedly, the underwhelming cookies-and-cream ice cream melted a tad too fast.

While the attention-grabbing dessert is arguably gimmicky, we have to say we actually did enjoy chomping through the thick edible chocolate chip cookie shot glass.

Besides the head-turning cookie shot, signature bingsu snow desserts and dramatic shakes, Icebox Cafe also sells a splendid selection of toasts.

Some flavours to try are the Red Velvet Toast with Vanilla Bean Cream Cheese (S$9.90) and the Peanut Butter Cheesecake Toast stuffed with Chocolate Brownie (S$9.90).

If you are exploring the premises of Jalan Pisang, do not be surprised by a snaking queue since that is possibly the queue for one of the growing cupcake establishments in Singapore, fondly known as Fluff Bakery.

Not only is this takeaway-only halal bakery a winner among the Muslim crowd, the humble confectionary has also attracted patrons far and wide with their supposedly to-die-for cupcakes. Our verdict? After sinking our teeth into the fluffy and moist cupcakes while scrambling to lick off its icing sugar – we were sold.

Be prepared to join in the crowd and stand in line for one of the best cupcake decisions you will ever make.

The bakery first went the e-commerce way with an Instagram account, after which their fame propelled and finally led to the opening of its current flagship store.

Fluff Bakery sells homemade cakes and interesting local fusion cupcake flavours. At S$4 a piece, these cupcakes are handcrafted with quality ingredients, and the freshness is evident.

Coveted flavours include the Ondeh Ondeh, Teh Tarik, Salted Caramel, Maple Pecan Creme Brulee and Horlicks. The menu changes weekly, so be sure to check the menu online before heading down to avoid disappointment.

The people at Fluff Bakery are passionate in what they do, and their love for cupcakes shone through every single cupcake. Don’t their creations just look so lovely?

The bakery operates from 12pm daily until they are sold out, so it is best you head down early if you are keen on bagging one of their yummy bakes home. We don’t need worms for being early because worms are icky, but we want our cupcakes.

Tucked away in the stretch of shophouses on Dunlop Street, Rouse can be easy to miss because of their simple shop front. But if you spot it and step into the cafe, the intimate setting will instantly make you feel at home. Rouse has a quaint industrial-style interior with beautiful low-hanging bulbs and art murals on the walls.

Looking for a cosy space with free wifi to get some work done? Rouse is a lovely Muslim-owned cafe with great fresh coffee, and the food served here are pretty wholesome too.

We like how the fusion dishes served here are nothing too far-fetched and still very easy on the palates.

Small bites such as the addictive Sweet Potato Fries (S$7.90) and Orange-Glazed Chicken Wings (S$12.90) are great options for a bigger group to share, but of course, we won’t judge you even if you order a serving for yourself.

If you are thinking basic cafe fare such as Eggs Benedict and Carbonara, Rouse took a step further and will delight with their fusion creations such as the Tandoori Chicken Linguine. Effort was definitely put in in this dish and we love the traditional rub and marinate to the chicken thighs to give it full flavour. The linguine was tossed in a lot of garlic and parmesan, for a bonus flavour-enhancer.

Tucked away in a small corner of Crawford Lane – just next to Tolido’s Espresso Nook – And All Things Delicious stands out with their attractive storefront. Once you step in, you will feel a sense of warmth and comfort, both from the enchanting smell of freshly-baked pastries to the overall cosy vibe of this halal-certified cafe.

Displayed beautifully in the shop is an impressive array of desserts ranging from pastries, scones to cakes. They also have a savoury menu, where you can pick from a selection from quiches and more.

Because they specialise in mainly cakes and pastries, we suggest digging straight into their dessert selection because it can do no wrong.

The Sticky Toffee Pudding (S$5.90) was so well-made, we finished it in a few bites. While we were slightly apprehensive about the generous drizzle of toffee sauce, we came to realize that the sauce was actually just right and the sweetness did not overwhelm us. The sponge cake underneath was nice and fragrant with evenly grounded pieces of dates.

What we loved most about And All Things Delicious is how unpretentious it is; just simple and wholesome pastries and cakes that people of all ages would love. For afternoons, you can hop on down and grab some Scones (S$5 for 2) with a cup of Iced Latte (S$5.50) and unwind with a book.
