Taipei’s Ningxia Night Market is coming to Singapore from 16 Jan to 9 Feb 2020!

Asian Night Market will be featuring more than 30 food stalls directly from Taipei’s Ningxia Night Market. Ningxia Night Market may not be as well known as the other famous night markets in Taipei—such as Shilin Night Market, Shida Night Market and Raohe Night Market—but it offers just as fantastic street food as the larger ones do and it is one we always visit when we are in Taipei.

For those of you who have never been to Ningxia Night Market, this is a nostalgic night market where you can stuff yourself silly with all the popular Taiwanese snacks available such as fried yam balls, oyster omelette and braised pork rice! It is also less touristy, and less expensive in comparison to the bigger players in Taipei.

Following the successes of overseas night markets opening in Singapore such as Artbox, Chatuchak Weekend Market, and Shilin-inspired Night Market, Ningxia Night Market is set to be the next night market to make an appearance in Singapore.

LIGHT TO NIGHT FESTIVAL

If you can’t get enough of pretty lights, fret not as there will also be the Light to Night Festival, which is an annual urban event that celebrates the Civic District of Singapore.

It comprises of 2 weeks: Art Week (18 Jan – 27 Jan) and Singapore’s Bicentennial (28 Jan – 24 Feb) and these aim to make art accessible to the public. Happening for two consecutive weekends this April (19 to 21 April 2019 & 26 to 28 April 2019), Singapore Turf Club at Kranji will play host to Shilin-inspired Night Market—a Taiwanese-themed street food festival of massive proportions.

Boasting rows upon rows of stalls selling authentic Taiwanese street snacks such as mee sua, ji pai (Taiwanese fried chicken cutlet), and many more!

Just to be clear, the Shilin Singapore is a Shilin-inspired Night Market concept and not the actual Shilin Night Market from Taiwan.

Chinatown Mid-Autumn Festival 2018 - Bask In The Sea Of Technicolour Lights & Nostalgic Lanterns

Set for us to reminisce the olden days and for the youth to delve deeper into Singapore’s past, Chinatown’s Mid-Autumn Festival is back again this year, bigger, better and brighter than ever.

From 8 Sep to 8 Oct 2018, head over to Chinatown in Singapore to catch a glimpse of exceptional art pieces, get a taste of nostalgic delights and feast your eyes on a myriad of performances—all of which depict the olden days back in the 1950s and 1960s.

Donned with 1,288 beautifully lit accordion paper lanterns and over 160 figurines showcasing the yesteryears of Singapore, including a 10-metre tall centrepiece that resembles a Chinese Junk ship, the streets of Chinatown is where you should be heading on upcoming nights.

Here is what you can expect at the much anticipated Mid-Autumn Festival in Chinatown.

This year, the street lights on display are designed to focus on the stories of the early immigrants in Singapore, more specifically with regards to how they have contributed to nation building in various ways.

Upon closer inspection, you’d find that these street lights are figurines that are made to resemble early immigrants, such as samsui women, coolies and street hawkers which all played a huge role in the development of Singapore.

You can find these stunning street figures scattered along New Bridge Road, Eu Tong Sen Street and South Bridge Road.

Planted right across the bustling streets outside Chinatown Point, the main highlight of all the light-ups this year is the spectacular Chinese junk ship.

Standing tall at 10 metres, this colossal structure represents the main mode of transport in which Singapore’s forefathers took to migrate over here, back in the 50s and 60s.

Besides these stunning light-ups, look forward to an array of events that will be taking place throughout the entire month of September and the beginning of October.

This is where you can expect a line-up of exciting performances and over 200 food vendors during the Festive Street Bazaar serving food items that you can’t get elsewhere—not to mention that they are all affordably priced a just a dollar or two each. This would be held on 7 Sep to 24 Sep 2018 daily from 6.30pm to 10.30pm.

Be sure to also watch the traditional Chinese cultural performances that will take place every night from 8 Sep to 24 Sep 2018, and catch their grand fireworks display on the last night of the Mid-Autumn Festival happening on 8 Oct 2018!

Artbox Singapore 2018 – Popular Bangkok Market Is Returning In May & June 2018

Artbox Singapore garnered massive crowds and was a huge success last year. Hence, it is no surprise that this wildly-popular creative market from Bangkok will be returning this year and it will be almost 3 times bigger than last year’s edition to accommodate more people and vendors.

The event showcases local and Thai entrepreneurs dishing out creative and ‘hipster’ snacks and other knick-knacks such as designer bags and jewellery. Here’s what you should know about Artbox Singapore 2018.

This year’s event will take up 140,000 square feet, featuring hundreds of vendors. While we were not thrilled that Artbox 2017 was a packed nightmare with virtually no walking space and parking lots around, we are confident that the organisers will do a better job this time around with the bigger event space.

We were greeted by a plethora of creative and colourful snacks and drinks at last year’s Artbox and we expect to be wowed by even more unique and delicious grub.

We look forward to a better-planned event this year with more spacious walking rows and great live music. The verdict is not out on whether this year’s event is worth a visit but we are certainly hopeful.

Unfortunately, none of the serving staff or mixologists is called Ah Heng, but hey, they have healthier drink options that everyone needs to know about! With lower-sugar drink options that are concocted from everyone’s local favourites such as MILO^®, zero-sugar cola and lower-sugar green tea, all drinks at Ah Heng Drink Stall are going to be FREE.

You know, sugar is really bad for you and we are all too guilty of consuming too many sugared drinks. Man, we really love our sugar—desserts, drinks, everything…

Yes, a little won’t kill; everything in moderation. When we look past those sugar-laden drinks; we’d actually realise that there are actually many more flavours waiting to be discovered.

And that’s when the pop-up bespoke bar that is both cool and healthy is going to show you exactly how. Let’s face it—too much sugar can be overpowering. In fact, many times, sugar masks flavours. Sugar is loaded with empty calories and too much of it can lead to the usual—weight gain (oh, the horror!), tooth decay and the list goes on.

While it is (almost) impossible to avoid sugar altogether, how about taking baby steps of reducing our sugar intake by simply making wiser and more informed decisions about the things we eat and drink?

Sure, it sounds all too boring, but we are on it too and much to our pleasant surprise, we are actually starting to appreciate ingredients and their tastes a lot better these days for we are truly savouring the flavours.

The seven drinks to look forward to at Ah Heng Drink Stall are Haloe Vera, MILO^® BTO, Pom Pom Parade, Fruity Cola Punch, Chrys Cooler, Bukit Coco and Apple Pie Chai.

They are all created using familiar local drinks. The ones we are truly looking forward to are MILO^® BTO, Chrys Cooler and Fruity Cola Punch!

MINIONS CAFE is slated to open in Singapore this November!

Managed by the same team behind the extremely successful Pokémon cafe, PARCO is bringing the first pop-up MINIONS CAFE to Singapore from 23 Nov 2017 to 21 Jan 2018. Fans of this cute yellow cartoon character in popular animated film ‘Despicable Me 3′ must not miss it for anything in the world!

Here in Singapore, guests can expect a myriad of Minion-themed food and beverages at the cafe and be spoiled with over 14 options on the menu that are inspired by the movie’s characters and stories.

Here’s an overview of what you can expect from MINIONS CAFE Singapore.

The MINIONS CAFE operated as the “The Despicable Me 3 Cafe” in Japan at five “THE GUEST cafe&diner” outlets located in Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, Sapporo and Fukuoka during July and September this year.

Following the cafe’s theme, guests can expect to be impressed with a myriad of Minion-themed mains, sides, beverages and desserts that make for great photo taking opportunities.

MINION-THEMED FOOD

For instance, you can choose to start your meal with the Minion’s Great Escape Cream Stew (S$20.90)—which looks extremely appealing, with a giant Minion character right in the center of the pan.

The yellow rice is mixed with saffron powder to give it that dark yellow hue and we recommend having it with the savoury cream sauce given at the side to boost the overall flavour. Every order comes with a mini salad drenched in thousand island dressing.

If you are craving for some fried food, pick the Minion Riceball Party (S$21.90)! Kids will love the fun-looking minion rice balls that come with accompanying sides such as crispy french fries and deep-fried tempura.

Alternatively, they also have other minion-themed mains such Minions Vacation Plate (S$23.90) and Pizza Box (S$13.90).

MINION-THEMED DRINKS

Feeling thirsty? Go for the Up-side-down Minion Jelly Soda Drink (S$12.90), Gru & Lucy “Grucy” Soda (S$8.90) or the Be Bad! Café Latte which can be served either hot (S$8.90) or cold (S$9.50). Although we must say, they really look too adorable for consumption!

MINION-THEMED DESSERTS

Of course, you have to end your meal with yet another Minion-themed dessert—S’more & Minion’s Ice Cream. What you get in this dessert is a scoop of refreshng mango ice cream and perfectly torched marshmellows that melt in your mouth.

As much as we enjoyed it, we had to pair the sweet treat with digestive biscuits to balance the sweetness on our palates.

Other dessert items on their menu include Minion Pudding (S$24.90) and Caramelised Banana (S$16.90).

Visitors can also look forward to exclusive MINIONS CAFE Original Goods which are not available elsewhere at the cafe. Besides that, there will also be other official “Despicable Me 3” merchandise on sale for you to shop to your heart’s content.

Food Japan 2017 – This Japanese F&B Fair Will Teleport You To Japan

There are countless people in the world who admire the brilliance of Japanese food culture and there is no reason why anyone should not be. In Japan, food is not something to be taken lightly; farmers are extremely attentive to their crops, chefs are particular about their culinary techniques and the country is at the top of the game when it comes to innovative food technologies.

The increase of importance placed on Japanese food products has made it crucial for all restauranteurs and F&B professionals to keep up with the latest seasonal ingredients, innovative products, and new-to-market brands if they want to stay relevant in the industry. And there is no better place to do that than Food Japan 2017, which runs from 26 to 28 Oct 2017 at Suntec Singapore Convention and Exhibition Centre Halls 401-402.

The sixth edition of Food Japan is where visitors can expect over 200 exhibitors offering 3,000 food-related products. BIG BAD WOLF HALLOWEEN MUSIC FESTIVAL

Singapore’s largest Halloween music festival is coming to Silos Beach, Sentosa, on 11 November 2017. Set in a medieval era, this music festival will be hosting some of the biggest international and regional DJs such as Lost Frequencies and TINC, and there will also be plenty of Halloween activities for attendees to take part in.

ISU1 ENDURANCE RACE SINGAPORE

A unique race originating from Japan, ISU1 Endurance race is all about promoting the spirit of endurance, perseverance and teamwork. This is the first time that the race is taking place in Singapore and it is basically a relay challenge, where participants will be sitting on an office chair and race to the finish line just with their legs!

As space is limited, be sure to sign up ASAP in a team of three. Early bird tickets (available until 01 October 2017) are going at S$234 per team of three (U.P. S$264). Do note that you have to be at least 18 years old to qualify.

OCBC CYCLE SINGAPORE 2017

Singapore’s largest mass cycling event – OCBC Cycle – is taking place this year from 17 November 2017 to 19 November 2017. For cycling enthusiasts, this is where everyone will gather together to ride safely on closed roads in the heart of Singapore’s city before ending the course at the Singapore Sports Hub.

This year, there is a new bubble theme for Might Savers Kids and Family Ride. Children will ride into bubbles created by bubble-blowing machines; this will be one memorable experience!

Registration fees for an adult for The Sportive Ride (42km) is going at S$99 per adult and S$59 per adult for The Straits Times Ride (23km).

MOONFEST 2017 PEKING OPERA CLASSIC EXCERPTS

MIZUNO EKIDEN 2017

Hosted by Spacebib and RunSociety, Mizuno Ekiden is the pioneer of the full-fledged Ekiden relay race in Singapore. Good news to all rum aficionados! There is a rum and Caribbean-themed festival happening in Singapore from 10 July 2017 to 15 July 2017 at Keong Saik. Immerse yourself in a Caribbean oasis and get savvy with rum, hearty eats, and Caribbean culture at Rasa Fiesta Singapura 2017.

Those of us who are passionate about rum will know the sugarcane-based spirit hardly gets as much attention as whiskeys and craft beers. But the Rasa Fiesta Singapura is surely reason for lovers of rum to rejoice!

The event is also a celebration of Caribbean, South American and Filipino culture and lifestyle—three cultures in which rum is immensely popular.

From Monday to Friday (10 July 2017 to 14 July 2017), iconic cocktail bars such as Sugarhall, Vasco, Potato Head, Bread Street Kitchen, Phat Cat Laundry and Lime House will transform into a tropical oasis; mixing up a selection of rum-based cocktails going for S$15 to S$25 each.

Each of the venues will also be slinging cocktails dedicated to a particular rum brand. These include, but are not limited to, Appleton Estate, Don Papa (a Filipino rum that has been gaining immense popularity), Saint James and Sailor Jerry.
