Focusing on speciality coffee and brunch items, Twenty Eight Cafe is an excellent choice for freelancers and students studying at the campuses nearby as the work-friendly cafe is equipped with many charging ports.

As of now, guests can expect to be satisfied with a decent range of breakfast, all-day brunch and some savoury pasta dishes—all sold at nett prices.

Twenty Eight Cafe is a delight to visit during the day when the whole space is filled with natural sunlight. Following the modern industrial theme, choose to sit at the communal high table or grab a seat at one of the many wooden tables around the cafe.

Under the Breakfast section, diners are treated to the full works—ranging from all-day breakfast platters to pancakes and toasts that are served till 11am daily.

Our Berrilicious Pancakes (S$15.90) came with sliced strawberries, summer berries compote, honey greek yoghurt and toasted coconut flakes. While the pancakes were slightly dry on their own, the tangy compote and handmade whipped yoghurt more than compensated for that.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

The Buffalo Wings (S$10.50) is also a treat for meat lovers. The spice rub on the drumlets is one-of-a-kind and is perfect on its own or with the accompanying cheese dip. To add a little crunch or to tone down the spice level, have a bite of a celery and carrot stick that are all served on the side.

You can never go wrong with a plate of Classic Eggs Benedict (S$18) served with a slather of homemade hollandaise, wilted spinach, choice of chicken ham (we recommend this) or smoked salmon. The serving is more than generous, the eggs are beautifully poached, and it is most photogenic for your Instagram feed!

Pasta fans should go right for the Chicken Pomodoro (S$17.50). Where do you find a delicious and good-looking plate of pasta in Marina Bay Sands for under S$20 but Beanstro? The spaghetti is coated evenly with the tomato cream sauce and adds just the right amount of tanginess and very slight acidity for a complex but flawless taste.

It is hard to fault a good tomato pasta, especially this one that is topped off with fresh parmesan cheese and tossed in with a liberal amount of chicken breast strips, making it a relatively healthy choice. You can feel our love for it, can you?

Look no further, seafood and risotto lovers; this dish of Seafood Risotto (S$26.50) will blow your mind. It showcases a plethora of fresh seafood, topping off a rich and creamy risotto.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

In your risotto sits a pile of treasures from the sea – the scallops plump and beautifully seared, the mussels big and fresh, and the tiger prawns so sweet and juicy. And more importantly, we often gripe about the lack of good risotto in Singapore. With this dish now, we can satisfy our cravings without having our wallets take a beating. Absolute bang for your buck with the generous serving!

If you choose to skip past the risotto to go for some seriously good fish, the Oven-Baked Miso Barramundi & Prawn (S$21) it shall be. Nicely seared barramundi fish is paired up with juicy tiger prawns and is served over a bed of sugar snap peas, cherry tomatoes and mesclun salad, which is also tossed in the same strawberry cream tea-infused vinaigrette.

Red meat lover? Fret not, there are steak and burger options for you too. If you are stuck in a difficult decision between these two, try the Classic Burger (S$21) as it can do no wrong. Juicy beef patty is served sandwiched between the burger buns, together with tomatoes, relish pickle, mushroom ragout, grated onion and the melty goodness of emmental cheese. All burger and sandwiches are also served with a side of shoestring fries.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

Prime Sirloin and Lamb Cutlets are also available on the menu with other hearty European-style mains such as Fish & Chips (S$23) and Chicken Piccata (S$20.50).

Save some tummy space for desserts. The Vanilla Ceylon Panna Cotta (S$8) is a delighting treat for those who want something milky and fruity. The layer of berry jelly topping the panna cotta balances the sweetness of the panna cotta with a light tart taste. The bowl is finished off with some fresh strawberries and blueberries.

The Salted Caramel Bread & Butter Pudding (S$9) is done the traditional way and combining modern favourites with the addition of salted caramel sauce. Served warm, the bread pudding is a definite comfort food with the aroma of cinnamon and nutmeg.

There are not many restaurants with delicious mains that cost less than S$20-S$30, and Beanstro serves the purpose of bringing you unpretentious Western mains at an inexpensive price tag. And of course, you will probably pay a lot more to dine at its counterparts in Marina Bay Sands, so the next time you need an affordable option when at the integrated resort, you know where to head to, yes?

It seems like a new brunch spot opens every other week, so it is surprising to see Symmetry doing a roaring business for weekend brunch despite its out-of-the-way location at 9 Jalan Kubor.

Symmetry is beautiful in a rustic sort of way. The brick walls and dim lights lend a cosy feel to it, making it perfect for a lazy weekend brunch.

It seems as if eggs are given a whole new status on brunch menus; Singaporeans have no qualms forking out $20 for a pair of eggs. The Eggs Benedict ($20) from Symmetry were well worth the price tag, for they were one of the best we have tried in a long while. These little babies were poached beyond perfection, with wobbly whites and golden viscous yolks. We liked how the hollandaise, itself already a perfect balance of flavours, was torched to a crisp.

We also loved the lightly scrambled eggs and the huge cheesy sausage from the Big Breakfast ($24), though the limp bacon and plain toast were distractions to this otherwise fantastic dish.

We would advise against having desserts here though; the Pain Perdue ($15) recommended by our server was nothing more than French toast with vanilla ice cream. We were struggling to finish this dish, which one-dimensional and boring to eat.

On weekdays, Symmetry does decent pastas for lunch; our favourite being the Penne ($22) which comes with a delicious truffle-tinged cream sauce and a heaping amount of mushrooms and rocket leaves. Dinner is a more sophisticated affair, with mains such as Beef Short Ribs and a whole Baby Barramundi. As for the brunch menu, we recommend sticking to the eggs, Afterall, that is what brunch is all about!

Note: Parco Caffe is no longer in operation.

Located within the tranquil Raeburn Park, Parco Caffe – by the folks behind Spruce and Alkaff Mansion Ristorante – is where you would find solace from the hustle and bustle of city life. What is compromised for accessibility is more than made up for ambience. It was apparent that much of Parco’s emphasis is on atmosphere; from the creeping vines along its granite walls and lush carpet grass, to the floor-to-ceiling windows that bathed the café in natural sunshine, this place is stunning in every sense of the word.

Parco Caffe has a separate menu for lunch and dinner. Brunch on weekends starts at 9am, which is when the café dishes up egg-centered offerings in addition to their dinner menu.

We were disappointed to be told that the eggs roulade and risotto we had our eyes set on were no available, but went ahead with our orders for two other dishes from their brunch menu.

We picked the Tartufo Nero Scrambled Eggs ($29), a chef’s recommendation described as scrambled eggs in a Parmesan basket with shaved black truffle, sautéed porcini mushrooms, bacon, cherry tomatoes and toast. On hindsight we did get what was stated (though curiously missing the cherry tomatoes), but for the price, were sorely disappointed to be offered a miniscule portion which was unfortunately, not redeemed by the taste. The eggs were overly curdled, and the parmesan basket soaked through and soggy. The porcini mushrooms and bacon seemed to be an afterthought, and did nothing to salvage the dish.

The Portobello ($23) fared better; 2 eggs on grilled Portobello mushroom, smoked salmon, poached asparagus, baked sweet potato with crème fraiche, cherry tomato bruschetta and toasted black olive bread was literally quite a mouthful. We enjoyed ploughing through the variety, but none of it was exceedingly spectacular.

We shared a serving of the Lemon Honey Kurobuta Ribs ($28) from the dinner menu, which turned out to be the best dish of the day. We loved how the tender meat gave way under the slightest nudge of our forks. The sweet, sticky glaze made for a decadent candied pork dish that left us with a lasting impression.

With so many other places offering better brunches at more reasonable prices, we’d be hard pressed to find a reason to return. That said, Parco Caffe is definitely still a destination for those looking for an ambience like no other.

Eggs Benedict is one of my favourite breakfast food. When I go for brunch, I will definitely order Eggs Benedict, or convince my friend to get it so that I can try. I don’t know about you, but brunch will never be the same without it.

Eggs Benedict is a dish that has a beautifully poached egg and tender ham, sitting on top of an English muffin, drizzled with a magical hollandaise sauce. There are different popular variations like Eggs Royale, which substitutes salmon for the ham; Eggs Florentine; which has spinach instead of ham; and Eggs Blackstone, which comes with streaky bacon for the ham.

It took me a long time to do this post as I’ve been trying out different brunch places, and I am happy to share with you my list of the best Eggs Benedict in Singapore.

Skyve Elementary Bistro and Bar

Started by the same team from Table 66 restaurant, Skyve Bistro is a classy bistro which is located in an old school building at Winstedt Road (formerly District 10 Bistro). It uses the Sous-Vide technique to prepare the perfect poached eggs. Trust me on this, go to Skyve Elementary Bistro & Bar for their Sous Vide Eggs Benedict ($12).

Barracks Cafe

One of my favourite spots for brunch, Barracks Cafe at Dempsey Hill serves simple and reasonably-priced food in a cosy space.

Besides the legendary truffle fries and 7 layer pancakes, the classic Eggs Benedict ($18) – poached eggs on toasted English muffins, drizzled with hollandaise sauce – at Barracks cafe is also a must-order when you are having breakfast there.

Canopy Garden Dining & Bar

Canopy’s Eggs Royale far surpassed our expectations with its quality for $13. It was generously covered with hollandaise sauce. This is one vital factor that attributes to the totality of a good Eggs Royale (or Eggs Benedict) – no stinginess when it comes to hollandaise sauce

Five and Dime

Easily one of the prettiest new restaurants in town, Five and Dime is located at 297 River Valley Road. It is one of my favourite new restaurants in Singapore, and I’d highly recommend you to go there for brunch. Five and Dime’s Eggs Benny ($16) is slightly different; the beautifully poached eggs come with seared beef, and a healthy serving of fresh greens.

Group Therapy Cafe

One of the latest cafes to open in the trendy Duxton Hill area, Group Therapy Cafe is a space tucked away on the 2nd storey of a reconstructed shophouse.

They serve a slightly different variation of Eggs Benedict. Instead of English muffin, the poached eggs with salmon are stacked on top of a thick toast. Together with a generous helping of the hollandaise sauce, there’s no way you can resist it.

Marmalade Pantry at the Stables

Marmalade Pantry at the Stables is a great place for a good meal if you wish to escape the city for a relaxing brunch.

So here’s a heads up if you are planning to go there this weekend. They have interesting choices like Steak and Eggs ($38), Chorizo Frittata ($18), but both of us know that brunch is all about Eggs Benedict ($19). Have fun!

PS Cafe

There are many people who argue that PS Cafe is overrated, serving mediocre food at exorbitant prices, but there is no denying that PS Cafe is one of the most beautiful restaurants in Singapore.

When you are paying $26 for two simple poached eggs on English muffin, it is no longer just about the food; it is about the whole dining experience. Where else better than PS Cafe, one of the most popular see and be seen places in Singapore?

On a lazy Sunday morning, all you need is Eggs Benny.

Riders Cafe

One of the most popular brunch places in Singapore, Riders Cafe also has one of the best locations. Hidden within Fairways Drive, this countryside cafe is the place to go if you want to escape from the hustle of city.

It serves a Blackstone Benedict, which substitutes streaky bacon for the ham and adds a tomato slice to the poached eggs & hollandaise on rustic sourdough.

Roadhouse

Roadhouse at Dempsey is opened by the good people behind Prive, and it serves the same delicious Eggs Benedict ($16). Lightly poached eggs, honey baked ham, streaky bacon, rockets, and English muffins.

Wild Honey

The popular all day breakfast restaurant has recently opened a new outlet at Scotts Square, so you guys now have one more option to choose from when you are meeting your friends in Orchard Road.

Let’s go straight to the eggs benedict. Unlike the typical ones, Wild Honey’s rendition ($18) comes with sauteed mushroom and prosciutto on toasted brioche.

#03-01 Scotts Square

The original plan was to have churros at Alegro Clark Quay, unfortunately it was closed and the churros evaded me yet again. We walked along the river banks and found ourselves looking at the brunch menu from eM by the River. They serve all day breakfast (from 9am to 3pm daily), and we managed to make it for the last order.

I have been wanting to visit eM by the River for some time. They are one of the Gallery Hotel restaurants, positioned at one end of Robertson Quay (closer to Red House Seafood restaurant and Boomarang if you have difficulty locating them).

The brunch menu has standard breakfast items like Eggs Benedict ($13), poached eggs on english muffin with ham & hollandaise suace – American Breakfast ($18) with eggs, sausages, beans, mushrooms, bacons, tomato & toast – Omelette ($10) with choice of cheese, ham, tomato – pancakes ($10) with maple syrup. If breakfast food is not your thing, there’s also a variety of sandwiches and main courses available on the menu.

We were thinking about the desserts at Laurent Bernard’s, so for once, there wasn’t much room for the eggs at eM by the river. Rich and thick hollandaise sauce drizzled over the delicate poached eggs, accompanied by thinly-sliced smoked salmon on a toasted English muffin (unfortunately it’s a little soggy) — but still, there’s just something amazing about having the Eggs Royale ($14) for breakfast.

eM by the River has a 1-for-1 happy hour on Mojito during Saturday night (9pm to 11pm). Sitting beside the river and having mojito while staring at the stars above, it’s the perfect way to spend the night.

Now that I have been to eM by the River, I think they are a good alternative breakfast place if the queue at Epicurious cafe is too long. Besides, they serve daily brunch while epicurious only has weekend brunch. If you are in the mood for pasta or pizza, check out Bella Pizza which in my opinion, is one of the best pizza places in Singapore. For desserts after your meal, drop by Laurent Bernard, or Canele Patisserie. Among the many restaurants at Robertson Quay, I’m very much tempted to try Brussels Sprouts, as well as Satsuma Shochu Dining Bar at the Gallery Hotel next. How about you? Which is your favorite Robertson Quay Restaurant?

Sundays are so very nice. I get to sleep in late and nobody can point a finger at me. Oh what the heck, I can even have a burger for breakfast and you will not judge me for this.

How many times have I blog about the breakfast at Epicurious Cafe? How many different types of eggs have I ordered, and how often can I revisit Epicurious Cafe without seeming crazy? If it’s up to me (without consulting my wallet), I’d definitely come here for breakfast every weekend since Railmall is just five minutes away.

Contrary to what most people, it is OKAY to have burgers for breakfast. Why not? Since I had burgers at midnight before, I don’t see why I can’t have them for breakfast.

Ladies and gentlemen, the Epicurious burger ($18) serves one if your name is Brad, or two if you don’t have a big appetite. Add cheese, bacon and egg ($2 each, or $4 for all 3 toppings) for the “full epicurious burger experience”. This baby is humongous!

I started breakfast with Pancakes ($7 for 3) of course. A lot of syrup was consumed and I ate the three pancakes on my own. What an achievement! It may not seems like a lot to you, but pancakes mean the world to me. I’d marry any one who makes me pancakes for breakfast.

One of my favorite breakfast items on the Epicurious Cafe’s menu is the Baked Eggs with toast soldiers ($6.50 for 1). We ordered two portions and the first one that arrived was splendid. There’s something special about the combination of eggs and bacon in semi-molten form. Unfortunately, the second serving was rushed out of the oven way too early, and the baked eggs was too watery.

The Cafe offered to replace the Baked eggs with the Choco-nana sandwich ($6). Now, nutella is surely one of the best creations on earth. Spreading a thick layer of the wholesome nutella on white bread is the most sensible thing a person can do.

My middle name is nutella.

Look, I’m not saying Epicurious Cafe has the best brunch in Singapore. But for the kind of price and the comfort food they serve, Epicurious cafe is definitely still one of my favorite breakfast places in Singapore. I’m probably not going to blog about their breakfast again. So if you know what’s good for you, go to Epicurious cafe (or any brunch places) today for a good Sunday brunch.

// Update: Mykii Brasserie Cafe is now closed

Many food lovers always like to go Holland Village as it has always been one of the popular dining spots in Singapore that has so many different restaurants. I recently came to know that Mykii restaurant actually serves brunch on weekends. It wasn’t even on my list of Brunch Places in Singapore when I had compiled it back then.

Breakfast at Mykii Brasserie Cafe is available on weekends from 11.30am – 4pm, and there are three brunch menus to choose from: Hearty Deluxe ($38), Gourmet Chic ($28) and Classique ($28). We had a Hearty Deluxe brunch set which came with a starter of homemade bread & muffin/scone/cupcake, Mykii Brunch platter, a choice of main course, dessert, coffee/tea and fruit juice. I know, that’s quite an handful isn’t it? In addition to that, we shared another Gourmet Chic brunch set which was essentially about the same as the Hearty Deluxe brunch set – less the main course.

Most of the time, I prefer to order from the ala carte menu, rather than having a brunch buffet. There’s no need for so much variety for breakfast, I’m a cereal-eggs-pancakes-desserts kind of guy. I like to keep brunch simple – nothing too heavy.

The scones are sturdy, yet crumby, hard on the outside yet so moist inside, it’s the type that I will love to have every morning. On the other hand, the Oreo cupcake was just okay, very sweet and a little too dry. The homemade bread, however was excellent. While waiting for the food to come, we couldn’t help but spread the room-temperature butter onto the bread and wolfed down two slices each.

The Eggs Benedict was more than just a pretty face. The magical combination of eggs and bacon always works. While the holladaise sauce wasn’t as buttery as I would like it to be, it’s just assuring to have Eggs Benedict for breakfast.

Mykii’s Brunch platter consisted of French chipolata sausage, grilled fresh tomatoes, streaky bacon with farmhouse eggs. For the eggs, we chose to have the ocean’s catch omelette with squids and prawn with a tangy thai-sweet chili mayonnaise. Hearty and satisfying, this is my classic interpretation of a big breakfast.

By the time the Iceland Smoked Salmon Sandwich arrived on our table, our stomach was already almost filled to the brim. I had no idea why it was named the Iceland smoked salmon sandwich, but I do know for a fact that the fries that accompanied the sandwich were delicious. It was nicely cut, and had a great potato taste. They were also light and not too salty; we finished every fry without feeling guilty.

If you have been around for some time, you will know that I have always been against the marriage of chocolate and banana. There are plenty of different options like orange chocolate and chocolate mint, but yes, I do not like chocolate banana.

The Chocolate Banana cake here did not change my opinion of the popular dessert, but at least it wasn’t that bad. For one, the bulk of the cake was chocolate ganache and only a thin layer was the banana component. I have nothing against banana, but chocolate banana doesn’t work for me.

I was elated when the dessert menu had a choice of Sweet Morning Platter, which was petite old English pancakes with pear compote, smoothie shooter, and vanilla bean gelato. When the dessert came, the size of the pancakes caught us by surprise. Again, I blamed myself for not reading the menu carefully, petite old English pancakes.. Yes it’s petite, small, tiny or whatever vocabularies you can think of.

Well, it wasn’t too bad. It’s pancakes, you know – pancakes always taste good. The slightly sourish smoothie shooter provided a good counterbalance to the sweet duo of pear compote and ice cream. Ooh, there’s vanilla beans! Perfect. Just the way I wanted to end a good and hearty brunch.

Compared with the other brunch places in Singapore, Mykii probably won’t be among my favorites, but that’s not because it’s not good. The food was pretty decent, not top-notch, but good enough. Their brunch menu really spoils me with so much food, and I’m very sure that my stomach will hold a protest very soon if this goes on.

Actually come to think of it, the beautiful part about breakfast food is the simplicity of it. Having a cup of coffee while reading Sunday Times, beginning breakfast with starter-eggs-mains-desserts, and most importantly, having it with your favorite person – what more can you ask for?

Go and have a good breakfast today! Sundays are meant for brunch.
