Top 10 Cakes in Singapore

Antoinette Cake

Cakes were invented, I believe, for the sole purpose of making us happy. With so many dessert places in Singapore, we are simply spoiled for choice.

Among all the bakeries, cake shops and patisseries in Singapore, where can you find the best cakes? Which sweet treats are worth a try?

There really is no “best cake” since each one has a different story and appeals to different people accordingly. We all have our own favourite desserts, but whatever yours is, I hope you’re eating it.

Here’s my list of the top 10 cakes in Singapore.

Marmalade Toast: Hidden Gem in Orchard

Marmalade Toast

“Which is your favourite cafe in Singapore?”

There are some places like Prive Bakery Cafe and PS Cafe that I love for their ambience; other places like Oriole cafe and Epicurious for the affordability; and Artichoke, Spruce and Barracks for the food. But when it comes to a cafe that I go all the time, Marmalade Toast is definitely the place.

Marmalade Toast Cafe is a hidden gem in Orchard Road. It has been around for very long, but even up till now, I’m surprised that not many people know about them. Located at a corner of Ngee Ann City, the cafe is a simplified version of Marmalade Pantry restaurant. They have a pretty straightforward menu of salads, wraps, sandwiches and desserts – everything priced reasonably under $10.

Bonheur Patisserie: New Pastry Shop in Singapore

Bonheur Patisserie Duxton Singapore

If you have been reading my food blog for a while, you would know that I love cakes and I am always on the lookout for dessert places in Singapore. With so many new patisseries, cake and pastry shops opening this year, I think dessert lovers are living in exciting times.

Bonheur Patisserie at Duxton road, is a fairly new confectionery in Singapore which specialises in customised wedding cakes. They also have a dine-in cafe where you can order a slice of cake for a nice afternoon high tea.

Sweets Garibaldi: New Cake Shop in Singapore

Sweets Garibaldi

Note: Sweets Garibaldi is no longer in operations.

Let’s be honest, the now-defunct haute Italian confectionery DeSte was a flop. Whilst I admired its concept of extravagant, one-of-a-kind creations; the market just wasn’t ready for it. The price point was too high, and few would splurge so much on fanciful cakes.

Garibaldi Group replaced it with Sweets Garibaldi at Mandarin Gallery, which is in a totally different league from DeSte. With prices starting from $4.50 for a slice to $28 for a whole cake, it is evident that the newly launched dessert boutique is after the mass-market.

Kki Cafe & The Little Drom Store Ann Siang Hill

Kki Cafe Ang Siang Hill

Note: Kki at Ann Siang Hill is currently closed, and it is currently looking for a new premise.

I first heard of Kki Cafe at Ann Siang Hill from a friend, and then another friend mentioned it too. I was about to visit Kki, but suddenly, all the media and food blogs in Singapore started to write about it. I am not sure about you, but I am not one who will follow the crowd, so I decided to wait for the hype to die down.

Finally, my chance to visit Kki Patisserie came. After having dim sum at Majestic Restaurant, my friends wanted some cakes for desserts, so we dropped by Kki Cafe. Given that there are so many new dessert places in Singapore, is Kki Cafe worth the trip?

Best Cakes in Singapore

Singapore Best Cakes

“Brad, my friends are throwing a Poolside Cake Party. Wanna come?”

Sometimes, we need to do crazy things to stay sane. Like eating 20 whole cakes at one go… The Cake Party is kind of like a mini competition. Everyone brought their best cakes, or rather, what they think is the best cake in Singapore. We got a good mix of cakes from Hotel Delis, to Patisseries, Bakeries and Cake Shops in Singapore.

It was really fun when everyone arrived with their cakes, we were like kids being locked up in Disneyland. Just imagine the excitement as we lined up the cakes on the table. It was cake, cake, cake, cake, cake, and more cakes for the whole night.

The question on everyone’s mind: which is the Best Cake in Singapore?

Singapore’s Best Cafes

Singapore Cafe Scene

This guide to the best cafes in Singapore was last updated on 26 October 2014.

Cafés have different interpretations in different countries. In the American context, a café or coffee house is a casual restaurant serving proper food and sandwiches. Whilst a café in other countries is simply a place that serves coffee with light snacks/desserts. Who can resist the lovely smell of brewing coffee, the chic display of desserts on cake stands, and the cosy ambiance of a cafe?

Here is our guide to the best cafes in Singapore:
