Situated right across Raffles Hotel Shopping Arcade is an eclectic playful rooftop bar, Loof which is opened by The Lo & Behold Group.

Loof is one of Singapore’s first rooftop bars and takes pride in its quirky local selection of Southeast Asian inspired cocktails and bar food that features local flavours.

Their time at Odeon Towers will draw to a close due to upcoming building renovations and the last day of service at Odeon Towers will be 27 Feb 2022 after being around for 17 years.

There is a certain exclusivity about the place, especially at night when neighbouring office buildings close by turn off their lights and the only thing illuminating the night sky is their iconic neon sign. Beautiful, casual and a fun place to hang out, Loof easily tops our list.

Fans of Loof will be happy to hear that it is set to return as soon as they find themselves a new home.

Established in 2008, The White Rabbit is one of our all-time favourite romantic restaurants in Singapore. Set in a restored chapel on Dempsey Hill, the beautiful restaurant has recently got a facelift and is still gorgeous with its iconic stained glass and booth seats.

Helmed by Exec Chef Daniel Sia, The White Rabbit is well-loved for their menu of classic European Classics with a slight twist as well as an extensive boutique wine list and Gin & Tonics. It is also a fantastic spot for a weekend affair with your loved one(s), especially with its new brunch menu available on weekends and public holidays.

The White Rabbit is known for its Gin & Tonics which are garnished with herbs from its own garden and mixed with its house-made tonic. Bar manager, Andy Lim takes inspirations for his concoction from his travels and the food he eats.

Don’t we love a good Burrata? At The White Rabbit, the ball of fresh, oozy cheese is accompanied by a refreshing tomato-watermelon tartare. Even non-cheese lovers would be wowed by the light yet palatable flavours of the Burratina Salad (S$23).

Paper-thin slices of raw wagyu beef carefully prepared with olive oil, capers and lemon juice, TWR’s Wagyu Carpaccio (S$26) comes with fried Brussel sprouts for a lovely textural variety, and the dish is complete with a drizzle of truffle vinaigrette.

The Ibérico Pork Collar (S$42) was more than impressive. It features a slab of extremely tender pork collar drizzled with kelp brown butter, accompanied by a beautifully charred cabbage and a dollop of lemon purée. The contrast of flavours and textures makes this enthralling dish one to savour and we long for more.

For S$29, the Beer-battered Kühlbarra Seabass is a classic fish & chips dish that features 2 fresh slabs of white fish, accompanied with house-made tartare sauce and a mildly sweet pea purée that is a nice juxtapose to the savoury fish.

Nobody leaves The White Rabbit without having their famous Crêpe Suzette (S$22). Thin crêpe pancakes made fresh upon order is lavishly soaked in Grand Marnier and dressed with yoghurt mousse and fresh flowers.

This TWR classic used to be prepared and served table-side, but due to the pandemic, this table-side service has ceased. Nonetheless, isn’t this TWR rendition of the French dessert oh so gorgeous?

If you still have room for more desserts, go for the Dark Chocolate Caramel Tart (S$16) which comes with a scoop of yoghurt ice cream.

The Rabbit Hole is currently closed during this period but you can still enjoy a stroll in the lovely garden after your meal.

And of course, take a photo at one of the most iconic photo spots in Singapore.

Probably the first restaurant in Singapore to introduce the Tomahawk steak in 2009, Bedrock Bar & Grill’s Tomahawk Steak (subject to market price) is best for sharing amongst a big group.

Savour the flavours of a tender grain-fed wagyu long bone-in ribeye, imparted with the smoky, charred flavours and subtle sweetness from an applewood-fire grill. Not all steaks are created equal, Bedrock Bar & Grill’s Tomahawk Steak is definitely in a league of its own.

The giant Tomahawk Steak is paired perfectly with four homemade sauces — Bedrock chilli oil, wholegrain whisky mustard, red wine sauce, and classic béarnaise. In our opinion, though, you don’t really need any sauces when the steak is that good.

DOUBLE CUT DRY AGED PORTERHOUSE

Other than the Tomahawk, Bedrock is also known for its Double Cut Dry Aged Porterhouse (S$180++), with two beloved steaks on bone – tenderloin and striploin.

Each porterhouse is specially prepared through the dry aging process in Bedrock’s in-house customised dry aging fridge, which enhances the unique beef flavour and tenderness.

BEDROCK MAC N’ CHEESE

Served as an accompaniment to their mains, Bedrock Mac N’ Cheese (S$22++) is a scrumptious dish that is extremely rich and cheesy. Topped with a crispy melted cheese crust, the macaroni is slathered in four different cheeses and drizzled with a copious amount of truffle oil.

We will go out on a limb to say that this is one of the best, if not the best, Mac & Cheese in Singapore.

925 YISHUN HAINANESE CHICKEN RICE

A plate of this chicken rice will have you coming back to Yishun just for their tender and succulent slices of chicken. Drenched in a savoury soy sauce and sesame oil dressing, this is one of the better chicken rice stalls in Singapore.

AH TAN WINGS

This stall needs no introduction. Ah Tan Wings, also located in Yishun Park Hawker Centre, serves up plates of crispy yet juicy Shrimp Paste Wings (S$5.20). A plate of this comes with rice, cucumber slices, a perfectly-fried egg and 3 golden brown Har Cheong Gai. To some, it’s truly the best Har Cheong Gai in Singapore, and we now know why they’ve said that.

The chicken is fried to perfection, yet it’s not greasy. It has a superb prawn paste flavour that goes very well with the rice and egg.

Nestled amongst HDB flats in Yishun, Heng Hua Restaurant is a hidden gem which serves authentic Heng Hwa delights and a wide variety of zhi char dishes at pocket-friendly prices. You can expect to find mouth-watering Chinese food that is perfect for your family.

Tucked away near Yishun MRT is Lit Lit Xin Popiah. For just S$1.50, you get a roll of delectable popiah! The skin of the popiah is paper-thin yet held the delicious fillings inside without any seeping of sauce. A kick from the chilli was also a welcome sensation!

We also enjoyed a bowl of Ice Kachang, sold at the same store, for S$1.70! It’s truly hard to find such affordable gems in Singapore nowadays.

Hidden away in the cafe-filled streets of Telok Ayer is Platform., a new minimalist modern cafe & bar serving cocktails, mocktails, filter coffee and some light bites. It is quite a refreshing concept, backed by a beautifully decorated interior.

If you’re a thirsty tippler searching for some drinks, or if you want to spend a few hours relaxing while sipping on a good cuppa, Platform. might be up your alley.

Decked in white walls and adorned with rustic dried flowers, Platform. gives you an instant mood boost the moment you walk in. It oozes a rustic charm that eases you into your seat, allowing you to relax as you scan through their curated menu.

We decided to have a taste of their Iced Matcha Latte (S$7) and were extremely satisfied. The drink was creamier than your typical matcha latte and had a smooth finish. The matcha had a slight floral aftertaste and left a pleasant aroma after drinking it. It was slightly pricey but it was very delicious.

To go along with our matcha latte, we chose to have a bowl of their Bibimbap Noodles (S$8). It was a rather refreshing option – the cold buckwheat noodles are tossed in a gochujang sauce (Korean red pepper paste) and topped with a medley of pickled cucumbers, zucchini, carrots, sesame seeds and crunchy seaweed.

It would be perfect for a quick lunch and it pairs perfectly with the creamy matcha latte as well! It was mildly spicy and we appreciated the slight kick of spice. Other than their selection of mains, they also have some pastries to go with their drinks!

The next time you’re in the Telok Ayer area, be sure to mark this down on your list of must-visits. Just a stone’s throw away from the MRT station, this cosy little space is perfect for you to spend an entire afternoon sipping on their curated cocktails, perhaps with a pastry in hand.

ONE PLACE BISTRO & BAR

Located in Jalan Kayu, One Place Bistro & Bar is pretty hard to get to unless you drive—which is not particularly advisable if your motive for the night is to get sloshed. Their offerings include the usual suspects but many people just go for the dual beer tower promotion which is pretty decently priced.

It may also come as a surprise that their food is far more impressive than the average bar grub. The only downside is that their kitchen closes relatively early, but then again, being in Jalan Kayu, searching for a late night bite is not a difficult task.

At Captain Snapper, they use Tiger Beer in their batter and also offer 4 types of homemade sauces to complement your crispy golden fish and perfectly crunchy chips, including Tartare, Sriracha Tartare, Citrus Thai Chilli, and Spicy Tangy.

We tried the house signature Poofy Pancakes (S$14) which came topped with fresh berries and cream, and the Matcha by Riz Labo (S$17) which was heavily sprinkled with matcha powder. While the Matcha version was aromatic with a nice tinge of earthy bitterness, the classic one was a lot better because of the rich egginess.

b bar is a speakeasy beyond the Wines and Spirits alley in habitat by honestbee. It is one of the new openings in May to visit and adds to our list of best bars in Singapore.

Slide open their full-length mirror facade of a door and step into a green-hued classy bar that is heavily enshrouded in darkness. We enjoyed the Rice Up (S$18), which is made up of sake, brown rice syrup, genmaicha tea, white miso paste and yuzu juice—served in a sake bottle along with dry ice, which actually attributes to the fragrance of cooked rice to the drink.

#6 FRESH GROCERIES TO SKIP THE GUESSING GAME OF WHICH IS BEST

Grocery shopping in habitat by honestbee is made easy with fresh farm-to-fork foods that are sourced directly from farmers and producers across the globe.

There are daily indulgences such as Japanese spices, dry-aged meat, prosciutto on demand, limited edition balsamic vinegar, and unique seasonal produce. Even their seafood selection saves us from figuring out which fish is fresh, because everything is.

#8 START YOUR DAY RIGHT WITH BREAKFAST AT LAZY LOAF

Start the day right with breakfast at Lazy Loaf.

From flours such as Ba Ria-Vung Tau strong flour, Nippn Toku Kirin rye flour and Masuda Flour Milling Co. to Kobe flour, Lazy Loaf uses specialised Asian flour to enhance their bakes.

Tuck into brunch items such as Smashed Guacamole on Toast (S$8) which comes with two fried eggs and a salad. Their Kaya Tasting Set (S$8) would be a hit among locals; pick from a choice of Asian Loaf or Habitat Loaf with a dollop of habitat kaya.

On that note, you can sample an array of freshly baked artisanal bread at their counter that also has Chocolate Orange Loaf and Smoked Duck & Coriander Sourdough.

#9 SIP ON A CUPPA AT HINOKI COFFEE

With Kyoto-roasted beans and Hokkaido milk, hinoki is where you can have a taste of Japan’s coffee culture in a brew. Sip on cuppas such as Matcha Latte (S$6) and White Coffee (S$5.50) paired with light desserts from their Niven Cakes menu as you idle away.

#10 CHOOSE YOUR OWN MEATS FROM THE BUTCHER

The highlights of the Butcher station are the deliciously marbled cuts of meats on display. Their Snow Aged Wagyu and Miyazaki Wagyu, especially, look like they promise a meltingly rich texture after they are cooked.

There are multiple options for veal and lamb plus an exclusive-to-habitat Bangalow Pork too.

#11 HAVE YOUR WAGYU PERFECTLY GRILLED AT CAMPFIRE FOR DINNER

At Campfire, any raw steak you select from the Butchery can be seared and plated for a top-up of S$8 and these folks sure know how to make us plan a return trip to habitat by honestbee just for them. All meats are served along with roasted tomatoes, potatoes and mesclun salad.

Our Tajima Wagyu Cross Flat Iron Steak MS 4-5 (S$15 per 100g) came with a slightly crusty surface that we easily sliced through to pick up very soft slices of medium-rare steak.

#12 CRAFT BEERS FROM WHITE MOUSTACHE TO KNOCK BACK AND CHILL

Even as you do your grocery shopping at habitat by honestbee, its environment naturally beckons you to unwind. As your pace slows down and your tension eases, White Moustache is the stall for craft beers that go beyond the labels.

FINGER FOOD THAT’S TOO GOOD TO SHARE

One thing that we really love about Oriole Coffee + Bar is how they have a number of dishes that are great for sharing. That definitely includes their extensive range of finger foods that go incredibly well with a pint of ice cold beer!

Whether you’re looking for a fried-chicken-with-beer combo or just wanting one of Oriole’s signature light bites, Har Cheong Gai (S$16++) would be your best bet. Shrimp-paste marinated chicken wings are fried to a lovely golden-brown crisp and served with a saucer of sambal belacan that is very mildly spicy.

A staple finger food that can hardly go wrong is Truffle Fries (S$14++). Liberally sprinkled with salt, truffle oil and shaved parmesan cheese, it’s one addictive bowl of crispy shoestring fries that you’re going to have to share as much as you might hate to.

Aside from finger food, Oriole Coffee + Bar’s extensive menu has a plethora of other scrumptious dishes that are great for sharing among friends. With mouthwatering options such as Philly Cheese Tenderloin Sandwich (S$22++), Cubano Meatwich (S$18++) and Triple Cheese Pizza (S$18++), you will definitely be left spoilt for choice.

HEARTY MAINS

If you can’t make up your mind, we recommend getting the Pumpkin & Feta Cheese Pizza (S$20++) which features an assortment of delicious and fresh-tasting meatless toppings such as roasted pumpkin, arugula, feta cheese, tomatoes and caramelised onion that are scattered generously atop a hand-pulled dough base that has been stretched to delicate perfection.

For something that best encompasses sweet, savoury, soft and crunchy, you can opt to have their Chicken & Waffle (S$18++). The freshly made waffle is slathered with a savoury bacon jam and arranged neatly atop, is a massive slab of crispy fried chicken as well as a fried egg. The dish comes with a side of crème Fraiche which adds a subtle tartness and creamy indulgence when eaten together with the chicken and waffle.

The Oriole Truffle Burger (S$22++), which comes with a side of fries, has a mild truffle fragrance that immediately hits you as you take your first bite. Sandwiched between fluffy brioche buns is a stack of juicy grilled grain-fed beef patty, sautéed mushrooms, caramelised onions, melted cheese, truffle aioli, and tossed greens. Although the beef patty could have had a stronger meaty flavour, the rest of the ingredients made up for it.

If you prefer something from the ocean you can always opt for the Fish Tacos (S$22++) which are essentially battered red snapper fillets and red cabbage slaw encased in a lightly toasted taco shell. The fork-tender red snapper was encrusted in a crisp, golden brown exterior that let out a satisfying crunch when we bit into it.

For heavier meats, St. Louis Pork Ribs (S$30++) is a half-slab serving of BBQ ribs with sweet potato fries and crunchy purple cabbage slaw. The pork was tender soft and we easily pulled it off the bone. The coat of sticky kecap manis (Indonesian sweet soy sauce) wasn’t too sweet and didn’t overwhelm the pork. The saucer of chilli relish it came with was a tad citrusy, lifting the heavy flavours of the ribs.

END YOUR MEAL ON A SWEET NOTE

We sang nothing but praises for their ambrosial Sticky Date Pudding (S$12++) which was the perfect way to balance out the savouriness of the other dishes. The dense pudding that lay in a pool of saccharine toffee sauce was served warm and in contrast, it was finished off with a dollop of ice cold ice cream from Cold Stone Creamery®.

This ambrosial dessert sees a dense pudding sponge, placed in the middle of a plate and surrounding it is a moat of warm, velvety toffee sauce. Indulgent, and we dare say, sinful, this dessert is finished with a huge scoop of fresh vanilla ice cream over top. The ice cream sparks a lovely contrast with the warm pudding and toffee sauce, giving you an interesting burst of sensations and flavours with each spoonful. We highly suggest that you start on the dessert once it hits the table as the warmth from the pudding makes the ice cream melt fast.

A charming, beautiful dining spot that’s a surefire way to impress a date, POLLEN Terrace astounds with its lush botanical surroundings, stellar service and delicious French-Mediterranean food that presents itself in the most vibrant of colours.

POLLEN Terrace takes up a large space in the Flower Dome at Gardens By The Bay and you can get there by hopping onto a personalised buggy ride at the arrival plaza—how fun is that?!

All POLLEN’s guests are also given complimentary access to the flower dome so you really do get so much more out of your meal there!

While the main draw of POLLEN is the restaurant at level one that offers multi-course dining, the terrace bar on level two is equally worth visiting too. Unlike many open bars in Singapore where you will have to bear with the midday heat, the temperatures at POLLEN will always remain at a cool 20 degrees Celsius.

It is always a great time to have a tipple at POLLEN; the curated beverage menu comprises their signature cocktails, wines and beers from both international and local brands.

Have a starter to whet your appetite. POLLEN’s couscous, duck ham, date and pomegranate salad (S$19++) is a visual feast that is refreshing and palatable on the taste buds as well.

One of our favourites on the menu, the Saffron risotto with beef cheek (S$34++) came with a chunk of juicy beef cheek placed on a bed of creamy saffron risotto that reminds us of the Spanish paella. We would, however, recommend this only for the light eaters or for sharing with other mains as the serving size is not substantial.

POLLEN’s 1,000 Guineas Shorthorn Beef (Striploin – S$38++, Ribeye – S$48++) is a treat for the senses.

From the perfectly seared edges to the medium pinkish interior, this one is for all the meat lovers. Accompanied on the side is a serving of fluffy, buttery mashed potato and a grilled portobello mushroom.

BOOMARANG 

This Aussie bar is known as “Singapore’s home of live sports” for a reason, so we definitely had to include it in this list! Here, you get to watch the match on large, HD screens, so no one has to jostle around for space. Their Facebook page also always has an updated list of what games they will be showing, which makes things very convenient.

They serve some really solid, classic Aussie food and beer here, which goes great with a good match of football. We love their Devil’s Ribs and Boomerang Deluxe Pizza which are great for sharing around. If the drinks are making you feel a tad more daring than usual, you can always try their Peppered Kangaroo Loin as well.

We all know Char Grill Bar for their affordable and delicious western fare, but did you know that their Holland Village outlet screens football as well? That just gives us another reason to love this place even more!

Char Grill Bar has generous, large portions, which is good for a long night of watching football. Our favourite here would have to be their classic Char-Grilled Chicken or Prime Black Pepper Steak with a side of Mexican Cheese Pasta and Baked Potato.

COQ AND BALLS 

The name of this place never fails to make us giggle, but aside from that, this place is a great cosy and quirky place for you to watch the game with some friends. Located in a cosy corner of Tiong Bahru, this place is easily accessible as well. What’s more, this place sells pretty affordable food and drinks so you don’t have to worry too much about breaking the bank.

This place sells great craft and premium draft beers, which goes really well with the food served here. Some great appetizers here would be their Tom Yum Fries and their Mini Wagyu Beef Sliders. For mains, we recommend you try out their Fish & Chips and Coq & Balls Cheese Burger.

Harry’s is one of the more well-known places on this list. With 21 outlets islandwide, you don’t have to worry about travelling too far just to watch a match. They make life even easier by having an online calendar that shows which game is on, so you know that you won’t be making a wasted trip down to watch the wrong match.

They serve really good food here too as well decently priced beer. If you’re going down with a large group of friends, we recommend you to get one or two of their sharing platters to feed the masses. Our favourite would have to be Harry’s Seven and Amigo Nachos. Special shoutout to their nachos, they do them really well.

This place is a modern Kopitiam that is popular among the residents. This place has both indoor and outdoor seating, making it very nice and spacious. You can enjoy the scenic view along Punggol Reservoir while sipping on some ice cold beer during halftime.

People love this place for their dirt cheap house beer and 1-for-1 towers on weekends. They also sell really nice food. We love their Vongole Pasta as well as their Hot & Spicy Wings.

We love the interior of Mcgettigan’s—it’s the definition of classy with a rustic touch. They take their sports very seriously, and besides football, they show other live sports matches such as rugby, golf and UFC.

QASR GRILLE AND MEZZE BAR 

Qasr is different from the other bars mentioned in terms of food. Instead of the usual western or local fare, they serve up some really bold and delicious Lebanese and Middle Eastern cuisine instead.

Some of our favourites here would be their meaty Sultani Kebab as well as their Shish Taouk, which are chicken cubes that are skewered with mushrooms and marinated in a mustard and garlic mayonnaise. They also have a pretty extensive drinks menu that draught beers, bottled beers, cocktails, premium spirits and much more.

When it comes to hearty bar grub to take the alcohol edge away, nothing beats sinking our teeth into one of PONG Singapore’s signature delights, their oh-so-scrumptious Beef Sliders (S$23 nett).

Essentially a mini burger that’s small enough to slide down one’s throat in a jiffy—hence the name—these beauties of thinly patted ground beef, caramelised onions, cheese, mayo and cornichons are just the perfect thing to indulge in along with drinks.

With just the right combination of ingredients to achieve that fine balance of umami, savoury, sweetness and a hint of tartness on the tongue, we dare say this is one of the best sliders we have ever tasted. They were really that good.

DEVIL’S WINGS

On nights where you’re knocking back one too many beers, it will probably be a good idea to offset all the excess alcohol with something with a little heat. Which is why more often than not, bars would typically have some form of spicy wings.

Here at PONG Singapore, you absolutely have to order a plate of their Devil’s Wings (S$12 nett). Every wing boasts a fiery kick with a stickily sweet and savoury flavour.

TRUFFLE FRIES

What’s a cold one without a bucket of fries to go along with it? While it may rank pretty similar to many other versions we have tried, their Truffle Fries (S$12 nett) is a sharing item that we will never say no to.

These truffle-infused shoestrings boast a delightful crunch with just the right amount of salt.

SEAFOOD POMODORO

Brimming with the delicious oceany flavours of fresh shrimp, mussels and squid, the Seafood Pomodoro (S$20 nett) was truly a joy to eat from start to finish.

The pasta was cooked just slightly past the point of al dente, allowing each individual strand to have a nice firmness to it but still being soft enough to slurp up. The various seafood components complemented the sweet and mildly tart tomato sauce perfectly as well.

BEER BATTERED FISH & CHIPS

Their Beer Battered Fish & Chips (S$28 nett) comes with a generous serving of rustic, thickly-cut potato chips, a generous serving of mushy peas and a massive battered cod fillet.

On the side, you get a tray of condiments featuring the likes of malt vinegar, ketchup and salt—just the way the Brits do it. Delightfully crispy, the lightly battered exterior was neither oily nor overly doughy. Eaten with a sprinkling of salt and some malt vinegar, this dish blew us away.

PROSCIUTTO HAND-ROLLED PIZZA

Another great item for sharing while drinking is pizza. Texturally, it hits all the right spots from the ultra crispy layer of dough to the meaty and crunchy components that work well together to form the perfect bar snack.

There are several hand-rolled pizza varieties to choose from but we decided to go with the Proscuitto (S$21 nett) that encompassed classic Italian flavours. This Italian pie came loaded with prosciutto, arugula, tomato, shaved parmesan cheese, pesto as well as a sweet balsamic glaze drizzled over top.

HALF & HALF HAND-ROLLED PIZZA – WAGYU BEEF & SMOKED DUCK BREAST

Struggling to decide on which pizza to get? Then opt for a Half & Half that includes 2 halves of 2 hand-rolled pizza varieties.

For ours, we got the Wagyu Beef (S$22 nett) that came highly recommended as well as the Smoked Duck Breast (S$22 nett). Both boasted nice textural elements to them as well as a multitude of differing yet pleasant flavours.

The former pie takes on a Japanese influence with bonito flakes, seaweed, a Japanese wine cream sauce as well as, of course, Wagyu beef. Savoury, sweet and brimming with umami notes, this is one that we highly recommend. The former was just as meaty and delicious but the real money-maker for us was the addition of crispy wonton skins.

Compared to many of the bars that we have been to, PONG Singapore is one of the few that exceeded our expectations where service was concerned. The wait staff were attentive and extremely hospitable and the bar itself boasts an exquisite setting and the bustling nature of the bar once the crowd comes makes it a great place to have fun together with your friends and colleagues.

Whether you fancy a pint or a tower of lager, a glass of Champagne or even something a little more personalised like a hand-crafted cocktail, you are sure to get yourself well sorted here at PONG Singapore.

Instead, what diners can hope to expect from the restaurant’s menu is a myriad of Mexican and Italian dishes—more than 100 food items in fact—encompassing a wide spectrum of flavours and characteristics but remaining delicious nonetheless. Whether you’re pining for spicy, searing-hot fajitas served on a hot plate, a rustic Angus beef burger or something a little less assertive like pasta or pizza, you’re bound to find something you’ll love here at Two Chefs Bar.

While their first outlet over at Quayside Isle may prove ideal for romantic dates and corporate events, their second outlet is better suited for office workers, fun get-togethers and those hankering for punchy cocktails, affordable comfort food and all-day happy hour deals—did we mention their Holland Village outlet boasts a massive selection of craft beers and ciders as well?

GREAT AMBIENCE, FULL TABLE, SERVICE WITH NO GST CHARGE

Diners rejoice for this restaurant and bar provides full table service with no GST charge. Indulge in the pleasures of excellent food as everything is made fresh daily without compromise using the freshest and finest ingredients.

For those who fancy sitting outdoors, the cosy alfresco seating decorated with colourful vintage posters is where you’ll want to be, sipping on those well-deserved beers and margaritas. The bonus – it’s fitted with a retractable canopy that makes it perfect be it rain or shine. Holland Village is easily accessible by car with plenty of parking lots making parking a breeze.

We’re not crazy over salads, but for those of you who simply cannot do without, their Prawn and Chicken Avocado Salad (S$20+) should sit with you just right. Comprising rocket leaves, fresh avocado, feta cheese, tiger prawns, a grilled chicken fillet and coated with a citrus dressing, the flavours were well rounded. Props to the chef for seasoning and grilling the chicken so well. Without it, the dish would probably have needed some help taste-wise.

If you’re looking to snack on something to accompany your tipple, a great option to consider is their Chips with Dips or Nachos. Served in good-sized portions, this crunchy snack is great for sharing among friends. The flavourful guacamole and salsa is sure to hit the mark.

CHEESY TACO

What’s Mexican food without tacos? Crunchy, messy and fun to eat, tacos always have a special place in our hearts. If there’s one thing we can say about Two Chefs Bar, it is that their Mexican food is spot-on, and a testament to that is their Cheesy Taco (S$20+).

We opted for the chicken option but they also have beef, fish and vegetable options as well. Stuffed with generous amounts of tender, shredded chicken and cheese before being topped with sour cream, salsa and fresh cabbage, the dish hit all the right spots for us.

The crispy taco shell provided a nice textural contrast to the melty cheese and the fresh flavours from the refried beans and coriander Mexican rice served at the side gave the dish a nice, aromatic lift.

ASSORTED MEXICAN FAJITAS

Served to us piping hot and sizzling on a cast iron pan, the Chicken Fajitas (S$22+) is a must-order if you’re a sucker for soft, caramelised vegetables coupled with heavenly-spiced meat.

The dish features a massive portion of perfectly-grilled chicken flavoured with their special house marinade that sits neatly atop a bed of caramelised onions and bell peppers; served alongside warm flour tortilla wraps, housemade salsa, guacamole and shredded cheese.

Apart from tacos and fajitas, other drool-worthy Mexican mains include burritos, enchiladas and the popular chimichangas; deep-fried tortilla flour stuffed with various fillings and a meat option of your choice, served with Mexican rice, sour cream and guacamole.

HEARTY BURGERS

While burgers neither fall under the Italian nor the Mexican category, we must say that the ones you can find here are pretty good. The Angus Beef Burger (S$22+) comes with everything a burger needs—a thick, juicy patty coated with melted cheese, a fried onion ring for an extra taste and textural kick, lettuce and two slices of juicy tomatoes.

FULL-ON MEATY MAINS

The restaurant’s various meat offerings lean more towards Italian flavours. To fulfil your carnivorous tendencies, go for the 200g Grilled Angus Beef Tenderloin (S$44+).

Properly seared from end to end, the tenderloin sports a beautifully-seared sheen coupled with flecks of toasted peppercorns. The meat itself cuts like butter, revealing a gloriously pink interior so immaculate that to stop to take a photo and have all its beefy goodness spill out would almost be a crime.

A decent alternative to opt for is their Iberico Pork Chop (S$28+). Although we found the chop a tad tough to cut into, the flavour of it was on point—making the dry texture of the meat passable. The pepper sauce that glazes it is terrific and goes well with everything on the plate.

A TASTE OF ITALY – PIZZA PARADISE

Among the many pizza offerings from the pizza bar—and mind you there are plenty to choose from—the Pepperoni & Cheese (S$24+) was the one we went for. Simply comprising a tomato sauce base, cheese and pepperoni slices, it was the best pizza to choose for us to best judge the quality of their chefs—and boy were we blown away.

The dough was freshly handmade, stretched to delicate perfection and topped with a generous slathering of their housemade tomato sauce before being sent into a roaring oven where it achieved a crispy, evenly charred exterior. The salty pepperoni developed a crusty exterior as well which further elevated the taste and textural experience.

EXTENSIVE DRINKS MENU WITH A WIDE RANGE OF CRAFT BEERS & CIDERS

The reinvented bar at their Holland Village outlet provides an extensive drinks menu ranging from a fine selection of red wines, white wines and champagnes to speciality cocktails, notable craft beer and cider labels as well as premium liquors—all carefully selected and paired to perfectly complement their menu.

The casual chill vibes, vibrant atmosphere and pocket-friendly prices are sure to make this your favourite hangout for drinks.

HAPPY HOUR ALL DAY, EVERY DAY

The 1925 Brewing Co. is a local microbrewery and restaurant that is a passion project from three members of the Yeo family who run the business and food direction of this dining establishment.

Joining the enclave of established cafes and bars along Joo Chiat Road, the establishment’s second outlet may initially strike you as a simple drinking place where you can get affordable beers but really, it is more than just that.

Their forward-looking philosophy is a major plus point as diners can always expect something creative when it comes to their food offerings; their signature craft beers are brewed in-house and the beer-inspired grub they have been dishing out since they first began operations in 2014 is impeccable, to say the least. 

At the beating heart of operations is a selective range of craft beers on tap brewed by them—each with its own story to tell. For those who are curious about the stories behind those beers, have a chat with the friendly bartenders who are more than willing to share!

Most of the craft beers are priced at S$7++ for half a pint and S$14++ if you opt for the full pint.

Yellow Van—their signature craft beer—is a pale ale that’s crisp, sweet and refreshing on the taste buds, which we can imagine to be very popular among the ladies. For those who prefer something stronger, the Jewel Of Africa Smoky Porter is closer to a stout and it comes with a hint of coffee flavour.

The 1925 Brewing Co.’s food menu is designed to be paired with the beers so there is nothing pretentious—just small plates with wholesome flavours that hit the right spot.

Their Pork Belly (S$10++) is easily one of the better renditions we have tried. In a mouthful, there was a textural variety that came from the crispy skin that held on to tender and succulent meat. The accompanying garlic aioli and sour plum powder heightened the overall flavour of the dish.

A more substantial option is the Shacha Rice (S$8++), an Asian dish peppered with garlic, dried shrimps and given a dash of chilli oil. While it is certainly on the pricier side for its small portion, the dish is nonetheless addictive and will fill you up fast if you are feeling hungry.

Chicken Skewers (S$6++) is a simpler side whereby the meats are dusted with Sze Chuan peppers, coriander powder and cumin. We enjoyed the intensely-rich chicken skewers with light pale ale but there wasn’t anything, in particular, we were impressed with.

There are two options on the dessert menu and it is the Tiramisu (S$15++) you have to get. A well-known gem for quality brunch item and strategic location near Somerset MRT station, Oriole Coffee + Bar has recently expanded their menu and upped their game in the local cafe and bar scene.

Whether it is gourmet coffee that you are craving or alcohol for you to indulge in during a night out with your friends, Oriole Coffee + Bar posits as one of the best spots in town for you to have a meal at and chill out. Founded in 2008, this diner has an interesting concept as it transforms from a hipster cafe during the daytime to a snazzy bar by dusk.

We’ve been frequenting Oriole Coffee + Bar since its opening and we have to say that their food and coffee are consistently good—if not, getting better and better over the years—and it is one of our favourite cafes in Singapore.

THE CONCEPT

Oriole Coffee + Bar is essentially a specialty coffeehouse in the day and a bar by night. During the day, guests get to indulge in hearty meals while watching the skilled baristas in action as they create each cup of coffee with precision and care.

When night falls, get ready to be serenaded with live music as you knock down pints of beer or sip on cocktails throughout the night. Their all-encompassing drinks menu features cocktails, draft beers, wine and spirits.

Situated in Pan Pacific Serviced Suites Orchard which is just right beside 313@Somerset, Oriole Coffee + Bar definitely does not fall short in terms of serving quality grub to cater to both locals and tourists around the area.

HEARTY ALL-DAY BREAKFAST ITEMS

Don’t we all love all-day breakfast items? If you are like us who cannot wake up early, Oriole Coffee + Bar has plenty of options for All-Day Breakfast meals, which are available from 8am to 6pm daily.

One of their highly recommended dishes is the Fully Loaded (S$22) that will surely, well, leave you loaded and fuelled. Choose how you would like your eggs to be cooked, and have them with 2 types of meat, maple-glazed bacon, roasted potatoes, roasted tomatoes, mushrooms, baked bean and multigrain toast. There is also a gluten-free option for their multigrain toast!

For those with a smaller appetite and looking for a wholesome or vegetarian option, the Bircher (S$12) is a blend of healthy Greek yoghurt, rolled oats, fruits and granola.

COFFEE FOR THE DAY

Be it hot or cold coffee, Oriole Coffee + Bar will have you covered.

Coffee connoisseurs will definitely appreciate the effort taken by Oriole Coffee + Bar to offer the best brews in Singapore by travelling to countries like Ethiopia to source for beans and roasting them locally. Aside from single origin coffee brews, cold brews served black, with milk or non-dairy M.A.D milk (cold-pressed nut milk) are some crowd favourites you will be able to enjoy at the coffee specialty house.

In particular, the Death Cream (S$10++) is a special concoction of vanilla beans, espresso and cream – high level of caffeine well-balanced with the ensuing vanilla taste.

Otherwise, try their other signature in-house cold brew, Taisho White (S$8++), which is made using Oriole’s in-house signature Raven blend on the daily. Nitro cold brew lovers will be excited to hear that Oriole Coffee + Bar has recently introduced 5 different types of Nitro Cold Brew (S$7) too!

CLASSIC PIZZAS TO LOVE

This new addition to their extensive food menu is something to love. We sang nothing but praises for their Margherita Pizza (S$18), which was generously topped with fresh buffalo mozzarella, tomato confit, parmesan cheese and basil leaves.

This dish would be good for sharing amongst a group of friends—but we wouldn’t promise that you and your buddies will not be fighting over the last slice!

SEAFOOD OPTIONS

Also a newly introduced dish, the Pan-Seared Barramundi (S$26) features a fresh fillet with nutty romesco sauce.

They also have other seafood options, such as Garlic Prawn Risotto (S$25) and classic Fish and Chips (S$20).

TRUFFLE MAC AND CHEESE

Do not be fooled by their Truffle Mac and Cheese (S$24) which is seemingly unappealing because the flavours are actually very on point. Unlike many dishes that claim to have truffle yet do not have a hint of truffle taste, the taste of truffle in this dish was extremely piquant for us.

Imagine freshly baked macaroni in cheese and topped off with chunky pieces of crabmeat, crunchy corn and then rounding it all up with aromatic truffle oil; it is any cheese lover’s wildest dreams come true.

PHILLY CHEESE STEAK

Open up their Philly Cheese Steak (S$18) to find a chock full of well-marinated beef, mozzarella cheese, caramelized onions, mushrooms and capsicums sandwiched between toasted ciabatta bread.

With just the right proportion of the various ingredients, the sandwich is neither overwhelmingly sweet nor salty, making it very well-balanced.

FINGER FOOD

Look forward to close to 10 bar snack choices which are available from 11am onwards daily. These snacks go hand-in-hand with their beers and cocktails!

For an insanely addictive snack for sharing with friends, the Spam Fries (S$12++) is THE bar snack you have to get when you are at Oriole Coffee + Bar. Thick cuts of luncheon meat are deep-fried until crispy, making this sinful side the perfect accompaniment to your bubbles and ice-cold beer.

Barnacles at Customs House is a popular after-work haunt that offers a medley of gourmet grub as well as a stellar view of the Marina Bay skyline. When the sun begins to set and the lights from the surrounding buildings begin to illuminate the night sky, there truly is nothing grander to marvel at.

Besides the awesome view, here is where diners can indulge in both inventive cocktails and top-notch fare. Choose your poison from an eclectic range of beers from around the world, signature cocktails, and a stunning selection of gin.

Top the experience off with Barnacles’ array of mouthwatering grub that comes either as full-on mains or small plates. Whatever it is you fancy, just know that when it comes to food, Barnacles is not one to skimp on flavour.

A properly balanced plate, the Parma Ham & Spinach Salad (S$18++) comprised salty and fatty qualities courtesy of the thick slithers of Parma ham, feta cheese and pine nuts as well as bright and subtly sweet notes from the balsamic dressing and dried cranberries.

Essentially an oversized gnocchi, what we loved about the Potato Mochi with Camembert Cheese (S$14++)—besides its chewy texture—was the generous amount of melty camembert cheese that comes oozing out upon each bite.

Crispy on the outside with all that creamy goodness inside, this is hands down one of the best things you could ever put into your gob.

For a Middle-Eastern-inspired flavour trip, we recommend trying the Hummus with Cucumber and Crostini (S$14++). Served with a crispy crostini instead of the usual pita bread, what really impressed us was the contrast in textures.

Arriving at your table hot, filled with warm spices and a generous drizzle of olive oil, the hummus really makes for a solid starter.

Conventional fries really need to buck up with Barnacles’ outstanding Burdock Sticks With Sour Cream (S$16++). Perhaps one of the most underrated vegetables around, a burdock is essentially the root taken from the burdock plant and if you are aching to know, it tastes like a cross between an asparagus and an eggplant.

Deep-fried till crispy, the burdock goes beautifully well with the sour cream it comes served with.

Although nothing that far off compared to the many that we have tried, the Truffle Fries (S$14++) served here does come with a herbed salt that that balances out the heavier parmesan cheese really well.
