Chefs Gallery Sydney

Chefs Gallery

Living in Australia for almost two years made me realised how much I love Chinese cuisine. It is definitely not easy to find a place that serves good Chinese food in Sydney (at least not in the city). Well, to my surprise, Chefs Gallery offers pretty legit Chinese wonders and it’s located right in the heart of Sydney city.

Capri Trattoria & Pizzeria Singapore

Capri

Located just a few units away from Pepperoni Pizza of Les Amis fame, one would question the viability of Capri Trattoria & Pizzeria at Binjai Park which similarly dishes up Italian classics. We were torn between safe and adventurous and were glad to be rewarded for picking Capri.

A waiter greets us at the door and leads us to a cosy corner. It’s homely and inviting and we instantly fall in love with this charming little Italian restaurant. Capri is as authentic as can be, with an artfully-styled brick-laid walls decorated with paintings reminiscent of what a restaurant in Italy would be like.

Canopy Garden Dining & Bar Singapore

Canopy

Canopy Garden & Dining Bar is a new-found brunch haunt that offers a good menu of comfort food with friendly price tags, and is coveted for its location – nestled amongst the lush greenery of Bishan Park, and away from the bustling city. I have a thing for calm and unassuming spots as such, where you could just break away from everyone and everything, and idle your day away with your favourite magazine.

If you are staying in the area – well, even if you are not, there is absolutely no reason to not pay Canopy a visit. I could preach non-stop about going there for brunch, but let me just highlight its value-for-money offerings.

Carpenter and Cook Artisan Bakery Café Singapore

Carpenter and Cook

When I heard from my friend Eunice that she was planning to open a vintage home store and artisan bakery café – I was excited for two reasons. First, I know Eunice and her eyes for perfection; I am confident that she will only deliver the best to customers, and her strong aesthetic sense will definitely create a wonderful setting. Second, I stay in the area, and I’ve always lamented that we did not have many nice cafes in the west of Singapore to talk about. But of course, that has changed with the addition of Carpenter and Cook at Lorong Kilat.

Queen of Tart

Since the vintage cafe opened in June, I’ve been there many times and I am happy to tell you that it is now one of my favourite cafes in Singapore.

Chihuly Lounge Ritz-Carlton Millenia

Chihuly Lounge

I love afternoon tea. It combines three of my favourite things – yummy desserts, a nice pot of tea, and catching up with good friends.

I’ve always heard about the afternoon tea at Chihuly Lounge, Ritz-Carlton Millenia, but for some reason, I never had the chance to try it. When I finally went there recently for an afternoon indulgence, I must say that they did not disappoint – if anything, exceeded expectations.

Casa Verde Singapore Botanic Gardens

Casa Verde

Singaporeans are a disgruntled lot. We complain about everything under the sun, and about the sun as well! The weather is too hot and humid for anything outdoors and so we hide in the air conditioned comforts of shopping malls. Then we bemoan the lack of things to do. This never ends, does it? Why not bear the heat, explore the green spaces we have and marvel at the beauty of nature? You may even find some hidden surprises.

Casa Verde is one of those surprises. Very few dining establishments can boast of being at the doorsteps of nature. What’s more? It is located in the heart of the city, nestled in a quiet corner of the Singapore Botanic Gardens. The vibe is relaxed, with pets roaming freely in the alfresco area and people chilling after a hike in the park.
