I will be adding this list to the top of my Delicious page. Given that it’s already April, that means on average, I need to check out at least one buffet restaurant each month. Get going, save up for the indulgence and report back to me every time you ticked off a restaurant off this list.
I am 100% in agreement with you on the horrible conundrum a buffet presents. Get value for money and feel ill or restrain yourself and feel slighted? I unfortunately always opt for the former…
I have a recommendation for your list – 333 at the renovated Mandarin Orchard – to me it is a magnificent buffet.. less variety, but higher-quality ingredients. I rate it above Melt & The Line. They have some can’t-miss items… like blueberry ice cream!
I presume you mean all-you-can-eat buffets as opposed to buffets where you can select whatever you want for a plate’s worth of food.
If so, I know the dilemma you face with buffet. I feel the same way with other all-you-can-eat places as well, where quantity is the primary concern i.e. “getting your money’s worth”.
I had tried the one at Fullerton Hotel last year. Not too bad. As for The Line Restaurant at Shangri-La, that was a few years ago. It should be interesting to re-visit the place again.
Awesome post! Exactly what I wanted to ask you about!
nice list of buffets.
I have my doubts about Hanabi though.
I agree totally about buffets, overeat and feel bad, under eat and still feel bad heh. I try to avoid them unless a gathering or function calls for it.
Wow, this is indeed a keeper! Thanks Brad for all the compilation work
i eat buffet bo hua.
I too have a love hate relationship with buffets- We live in Las Vegas which is pretty well known for having some good ones. When we have company visit they often want to check out a ‘good buffet’. I don’t mind doing the seafood buffets- they always seem worth it.
Also a brunch buffet is always a special treat-
Lovely blog- The name “Lady” caught my eye- lovely to meet you.
i have tried hanabi, the line and greenhouse. i think u might want to skip hanabi.
i like greenhouse the best!
the line is good, but i think greenhouse is more value for money
theres a hanabi right outside my house!
though i didnt have a good experience there.
have you tried ikoi?
the line is not bad too!
I looovveee buffetss haha although sometimes I may regret it afterwards… but always craving more by the next meal ^^!
Let’s go to Hanabi and gorge ourselves on sashimi~!
Basilico is my favourite in your list, I had a lunch with about 20 friends, great food, good value.
Was at the Line 2 weeks ago for sunday brunch, they lost our reservations for 12 persons. Can you imagine, luckily the manager found me a table. The food was ok, but feel the layout was too spread out. They have only one person to shackle the oysters so there is a long wait there and sashimi was not high quality.
Triple 3, I was there abbout 2 weeks back too, 2nd visit, standards have dipped a bit. Stand outs were the short ribs and the tepanyaki prawns. Variety is not there.
One Ninety at the Four Seasons (Also 2 weeks back), a appeitizer and dessert buffet. Small variety, roast cuts sub standard, no seafood and no ice cream. But the main course from the menu was not bad.
Claymore 10 (Pan PAcific Claymore) for sunday brunch, was value for money, nice and compact spread. Also main course from the menu. Think was better than One Ninety at 4 Seasons.
I’ve not been for buffet for quite some time, reason being, “getting old”, realise I can’t stuff myself as much as I use to! Went to Melt a couple of years back and that was such a let-down…Hanabi, also went a couple of years back, and again, not great. One Ninety, Greenhouse and The Line are my all time fav though I have not been back for a year or so, standards may have dropped, or on a positive note, raised.
Anyone know where there are more International Buffets? Preferably central area, budget $70 per pax.
welcome back ! great list of sinful buffets there ! love it =D there’s one more at furama hotel which is not bad too ! esp for muslim friends !
Mike: above melt and the line? now you are tempting me to go triple 3! such high compliments from you!
Simon: Yeah have to get the money worth, thats why we always feel the need to eat more
fwy: I haven visit any of them before. thats why i have this list, it’s like a new year resolution to try all the buffet restaurants this year. lol
hanxue: HAHA so which one are u going?
Xin Li: I want to try a Japanese buffet restaurant, and hanabi seems pretty affordable
terry: No problem dude, so long you go to all of them and let me know which is good :p
jiaying: haha no man, u can really eat, i think it will be worth the money
Ren: precisely right, the seafood buffet seems so value for money! I guess i will only have buffet during special occasions! haha nice to meet u too!
Johnson: Really? hanabi is so bad? but it seems affordable! yea always want to try the line, hopefully i can go soon
felicia: Where is ikoi? hanabi is so bad?
Ffichiban: I always regret having buffet after 3 hours of binging on food
Arissa: okay in May!
Wwwism: Really? and the price at bascillo seem very reasonable too! The line is well known for their great variety, but the problem is you must know which to attack, if not probably will be full before you get to try everything! hahah
wow u seem like a big fan of buffets eh? which is the next one u going to try?
Joyce: Time to go back yeah? I want to go melt/the line/greenhouse soon, either one will make me a very happy boy. hee
hanxue: haha for 70 bucks you can go to a lot of places, melt/the line/greenhouse? they are great choices
jean: Thank you jean! I’m so glad to be back! furama hotel? what type of buffet is it?
Hi Ladyironchef,
Haha, I actually rarely have buffets, but was my birthday a few weeks ago and friends cjar me several lunches, so ended up having 3 buffets in a week. It’s the best choice when in a big group, everyone can pick and choose what they like to eat. My group of friends will go for a sunday buffet brunch or a buffet dinner when someone’s birthday rolls along
I really recommend Basilico, and I have been waiting to go back for sometime now. Last November I organised a post wedding lunch for friends and had a entourage of 20 plus. At that time they also had a 4 eat, 3 pay deal up to a max of 8 persons. The food was really really really good. The manager who organised it for me was really helpful and the spread was very good, quality stuff. Not your usual international buffets of seafood, oysters as such (I love oysters) but they more than made up with their king crab legs and other great items like pizzas, pasta, salad, meat carvery, hams, cheeses. If you haven’t try it, you should make it your next stop. The place is also very modern and classy.
I have no idea which buffet to try next, but think I will take a break from buffets for a while. Do let us know if there is great new or undiscovered gem for buffets, then I will give it a go.
Hmm, I cant seem to decide! PErhaps I’ll head down to all the restaurant one day and take a look at their menu before deciding
The high tea buffet at Cafe L’Espresso’s best for lazy afternoons! And prices are pretty reasonable
Go give it a try soon!
International buffet at Grand Copthorne hotel @ Great world vicinity is not bad too. Esp if only 2 of u, and use alacarte card. it’s instantly 50%!!!!! and their max is $50++++ (so after discount is $25+++/person for hotel int’l buffet)
@Kris: Hello! Do you have more details about the ala carte card that I can read??
Happybelly: Sure thing, i’m always in the mood for a lazy English high tea! : )
Kris & Blabliblu: Yeah what’s the ala carte card about?
Ironchef, really appreciate you trying to reply to everyone.
have a gd day
Johnson: No problem dude, i really appreciate all the comments i get, so i will reply to everyone. drop by and leave more comments ok? let me know which nice places u check out recently!
Wow..so many buffets! Can’t wait to try them out. So nice of you to compile with all the details like price and add. Great job.
lj: Thanks for the kind words, which buffet are u going to check out next? : )
I just tried the Italian brunch at Prego yesterday… 68++ with a 15% of Citibank discount. Good, but for that price I don’t think I would return.
The “must-visit” buffet that is next on my list is Dolce Vita – Mandarin Oriental. They have a Saturday brunch a-la carte buffet for 88++ – and it doesn’t interfere with eggs benedict on Sundays!
Mike: Dude, you are like on an eating spree! u went 333 only recently right, and now prego too? haha! let me know about Dolce Vita, heard of it. You mean they have two different type of brunch on weekends?
333 was a few months back but fresh in my mind because that’s been my best buffet experience to-date in Singapore. Mandarin Oriental splits their brunches… Saturday at Dolce Vita and Sunday at MELT – I guess so they don’t compete with each other!
Greenhouse is terrible. The food is not well laid out and poor quality.
jerry: oh dear, sorry to hear that Greenhouse wasn’t a good experience. which buffet in singapore do you recommend?
I would recommend Melt and Aquamarine. Good quality food and not too much crowd so you don’t have to jostle for food.
The Line has good food but personally I don’t enjoy the experience as it’s so crowded and noisy.
Basilico semi-buffet is not bad. The mains are not that good though.
Jerry: yeah melt is definitely one of the best buffet in singapore, i went there two weeks ago and it was fabulous! is aquamarine that good? haven really heard much about it
The spread at aquamarine is not that extensive but they make up for that with good quality food and a nice ambience.
On another note, just went to Triple Three and it was quite a big disappointment. Small spread and average food.
jerry: Seriously? a few of my friends went to triple three and they mentioned that it was one of the best buffet in Singapore
The spread at triple three is quite small. They seemed to be having a japanese themed buffet. They’ve got the teppanyaki and tempura stations along with the wagyu beef which are their most popular but I found the food to be average.
Personal preference I guess.
Hi! Anyone agree that the more “stars” the hotel has, the better its buffet?
For Indian food try the buffet @ The Kashmir Restaurant at East Coast Road near Tanjong Katong.
Good Variety for Lunch Spread with chicken, fish, basmati rice, vegetables, starte, soup and the best part hot nans served on the table at just $10 nett on weekdays and $15 on weekends with some additional items. New Menu everyday…will recommend you call to check the menu you might be lucky to eat tandoori chicken or butter chicken.. or chicken wings… Remember it is only cash payment…
Hihi, anyone ever been to Princess Terrence Cafe @ Copthorne Hotel. How you rate it.
woah Awesome buffet i want to eatttttt………going to try MELT THE WORLD!!!!!!
I have tried number of buffets locally.
Greenhouse was one of my favourite until i tried MELT in end 2009.
Personally, i love MELT is because of the food quality and ranges. Go for the lobsters! That will make $ worth! This place is getting more crowded. This speaks of its food.
Greenhouse on the other hand is quite a disappointment. Especially the cooked food, it had slacken alot… The Line is also another disappointment. I think i am pro-melt.
Aquamarine is not that bad. But for not so expensive buffet with nice spread, i would recommend Carousel @ Royal Plaza on scotts hotel. Going to Carousel is better than going to the silly Parisee @ Marina Sq!
Cheers…
Tried some of these here.
any recommendations for a birthday buffet that is not too costly?
Hi, does anyone know if The Line is still having their birthday promotion? The one where u get the % discount off your birthday year…thanks
hi, does anyone know of any good Asian buffets? good spread, good food. thanks
My hubby and me are those that goes for the quality and ambience instead of how much we can stuff ourselves silly.. Went to The Line, food is great but kinda noisy.. Went to Melt, was great! Going to try Rise at MBS and maybe the chocolate buffet at MBS later tonight.. Gosh, a very sinful night ahead.. Hope it will be a great night ahead too..
Hi Ladyironchef, will there be any chance that u will be going to try Spices Cafe at Concorde Hotel for International Seafood Buffet during weekend dinner and their Weekend High tea Buffet? Cos didn’t see this in your post. Hope u can reply me and hope u can go there to try out their buffet, if its worth to go and hope to see many Dessert photos cos I’m also the type will start off with dessert first..Haha…
Heard that their desserts are great!
Summer: Will definitely blog about it if I try Spice Cafes : )
Hi Brad,im back again becos my dad says he would like to have Jap buffet for Father’s Day, so that’s my task at hand
This list is great – helps to keep track of what to try.
Anyway, here’s my 2 cents’ worth of those i’ve tried before.
Basilico: A must-go for Italian foodies (like me!), quiet and cosy environment mainly hotel guests, couples or small groups of frens. Yummy cheese corner, with a variety of quality feast of antipasti, salads etc and the entire experience was akin to fine dining style. A laidback, no-pressure dinner. The mains were great too.
Carousel: I’d say, excellent spread: from sashimi, salads, fresh mussels, to roast beef, and asian food corner, plus dessert. Environment-wise, weekend dinners are noisy affairs. Seems to have increased price over the years… or did it?
Cafe L’Espresso: The hub and i enjoyed the high tea on a Monday and boy, it was packed! Good variety of appetizers (smoked salmon, olives, cheese platter) and bite-sized finger foods (sandwiches, canapes) plus desserts. Despite its popularity, it was still a quiet, relaxing experience
Greenhouse: Had this twice, though not by choice
There’s a very good selection of food ranging from appetizers, seafood, asian cooked food, Indian food section (they had this both times i was there, not too sure if it’s a staple thing?), cheese cuts with bread sticks/crackers. Oh, and desserts! Lots of desserts like cakes, cakes and more cakes! Like Carousel, a good place for gatherings or families.
Straits Kitchen: Went with a group of friends about 3-4yrs ago. Food variety wasn’t really appealing. Still remember that some hot food were served cold. Unless you’re a die-hard fan of hawker food, think twice about paying that price with the quality. Might be more worthwhile to treat the tummy to authentic good hawker food. Anyone knows if it’s better now?
Hi Ladyironchef, do you know where can I find a good international buffet dinner that serve raw oyster?
Thank you
