If your mom is more on the crafty side and enjoys activities such as jewelry making and scrapbooking, sign her up for craft workshops and get creative together with her and create some amazing artwork for keepsake!

#4 A DAY OF FEASTING

After you are done with the activities of the day, of course you have to bring her to her favourite place for a meal! Treat her to a feast of all her favourite things. You can even cook the dishes yourself; she will appreciate your sincerity a lot more.

#5 DAY OUT TO HER NOSTALGIC CHILDHOOD PLACES

Our parents will always feel nostalgic at places they used to stay at and love way back then. Take her out on a day trip to the neighbourhood they grew up in, or the place they used to always hang out at as kids. Walk around and have a nice chat with your mom as she reminisces her childhood.

La Brezza

Regulars to St Regis Singapore will be familiar with their signature restaurants like Yan Ting and Brasserie Les Saveurs, but not many people have been to La Brezza, a poolside restaurant that serves fine trattoria-style Italian cuisine.

On weekends, they have a Prosecco brunch ($98++/pax with prosecco, $68++/pax for non-alcohol) that features an enticing spread of antipasti and cheese. That is not all. The buffet also includes handmade pastas and main courses like striploins, seabass and prawns – grilled ala minute – with free flow of prosecco. It is definitely a treat for a special occasion like Mother’s Day.

Morton’s of Chicago Steakhouse

Morton’s of Chicago Steakhouse has a Mother’s day dinner promotion ($115 per person) which includes a salad – choose from either the Morton’s Salad or Caesar Salad; for entree, you can have Single Cut Filet Mignon, Jumbo Lump Crab, Salmon Fillet, or Colossal Shrimp Alexander; and end off the meal with a Creme Brulee or Double Chocolate Mousse.

Picotin Express

The European bistro at Quayside Isle is a sleek and streamlined version of the original Picotin at Bukit Timah.

With chef-owner Steve Kaye helming the kitchen, you can be assured of a good meal. Picotin Express serves signature dishes such as the Pan-fried Sea Bass with lemon thyme risotto ($32), Beef Bourguignon ($30), Honey Glazed Pork Ribs ($30), as well as a selection of thin crust pizzas ($22).

Picotin Express serves simple, delicious and honest comfort food that you can eat on a regular basis. It is a place that I can go back again and again, and I think your mom will like it too.

Poulet

French restaurants are aplenty in Singapore, it is not difficult to find good French food here. But if you are on a hunt for a pocket-friendly option, the options become considerately limited. Poulet at the new Bugis+, a casual French restaurant by the Thai Express group, might just be the place to bring your mom for a good and affordable meal.

Sky on 57

Sky on 57 by Chef Justin Quek has one of the best views of Singapore’s skyline, and if you are looking for a restaurant to impress your girlfriend’s mom, make a call to reserve a table here.

The business luncheon menu ($50 for 3 course, or $60 for 4 course) is actually very reasonable. It offers some of Justin Quek’s signature dishes like Foie Gras Xiao Long Bao, Beef Broth, Singapore Sakura Chicken RIce, and Kaya Macarons. For the excellent view and good food, this is one of the best set lunches you can get in town. Note: There is a minimum spend of $50/pax during lunch, and $100/pax during dinner.

Todai

For an all-you-can-eat-stuff-your-face international buffet, go to Todai. The seafood and sushi buffet restaurant offers a huge variety of food ranging from sushi, to BBQ meat, to Korean food and desserts. What makes customers go back again and again, however, is the Alaskan crab. Free-flow giant crab legs? I am sold. On Mother’s Day 2013, both lunch and dinner buffets are priced at $68++/pax.

Mother’s Day falls on 13th May this year, and it is just two weeks away from us. As always I’ve prepared a list of restaurants to give you some suggestions on where to go for this special day. Besides featuring restaurants that are having Mother’s Day promotion, I’ve also included some of my favourite places.

If you are looking for a nice restaurant to bring your mommy for lunch, Bistro Du Vin is the place to go. It serves a three-course set lunch at $30++, which in my opinion, is one of the most value for money set lunches in Singapore.

Cocotte

Another good place to satisfy your French food craving (Mother’s Day is just another excuse for us to eat out), Cocotte has an excellent three course executive set lunch at $29++. Definitely the place to go if you want a rustic and comfy place to celebrate the special occasion.

Chao Shan Cuisine

A no-frills eatery that serves fantastic Teochew food. I’ll go so far as to say that it is one of the best Teochew Restaurants in Singapore. The only problem here is getting a table because this place is very popular; reservation is absolutely necessary.

Chikuwa Tei

Chikuwa Tei is a place that I will go back again and again when I am craving for Japanese food. The offerings are generally good, and the prices for the bento set and ala carte menu are very reasonable.

Jade Palace Seafood Restaurant

Jade Palace Seafood Restaurant at Forum is the place to go if you are looking for a restaurant that serves consistently good Chinese food. This is the place to go if your parents are the conservative type that do not like “surprises.” You don’t have to worry about having a bad dining experience as the restaurant has been satisfying customers for many years.

Kumo Kaiseki Restaurant

Many people would murder me for revealing this secret, but Kumo at ICON Village has one of the best value for money Omakase ($138/168) in Singapore. For a slightly more affordable alternative, go for the seven course Kaiseki set dinner at $78. I highly recommend this place if you like Japanese food.

La Villa

La Villa (pictured at the top of the post) by the Senso Group is one of my new favourite Italian Restaurants in town. It has a great location at River Valley, yet not many people seem to know about it. Prices are mid-range; $16-25 for antipasti, $18-28 for pasta/risotto, and $28-36 for main courses. Just the place to bring your parents for a nice and quiet Mother’s Day dinner.

il Lido Italian Dining

I’ve written about il Lido on many occasions as I believe that it is one of those restaurants which is suitable for all occasions. It’s the kind of place where you can go for a business luncheon, a hot date, a leisure weekend lunch, and of course, to celebrate Mother’s Day.

Fans of il Lido will be happy to know that restaurateur Beppe De Vito is now back to helm the kitchen. He is not only cooking there every night, but he is also managing the service front-line. Beppe will be attending to each table and explain the specials before heading to the kitchen to cook. I have no doubt that il Lido is going to soar to greater heights now that he is personally managing both the service and the kitchen.

il Lido is having a Mother’s Day Luncheon on 12th & 13th May, and the 5 course set lunch is only $68++. Fantastic deal!

One-Ninety at Four Seasons

I went for One Ninety’s Sunday Champagne Brunch over the weekend, and I have to say I am rather impressed by the quality of the buffet. What’s there not to like when you have Alaskan king crab, lobsters, and an amazing antipasti counter? The dessert section by Pastry Chef Audrey was equally impressive.

For Mother’s Day Sunday Brunch at Four Seasons, the restaurant has prepared a Mother’s Day Gift – a complimentary chocolate raspberry cake (300g) – for all mothers. Sunday Brunch prices on May 13th 2012 are $198++ (Veuve Clicquot Brut), and $138++ (non-alcoholic options).

Our Korner Bistro

Located at the beautiful Scarlet Hotel, Our Korner is a classy yet laid-back restaurant which serves a wide variety of food on its menu. From laksa clam chowder to chicken schnitzel, and burgers, Our Korner has a bit of everything.

While I feel that prices are slightly steep for the quality of food, I love the vibe of the restaurant. Appetisers start from $14-22, while mains are from $20-35.

Putien – a casual dining Chinese restaurant – is the place place to go for a simple Mother’s Day dinner. This Mother’s Day, the chefs at Putien have prepared several set menus which range from $128++ for four to $578++ for 10. It will be served from May 1 to 14 for Mother’s Day.

Si Chuan Dou Hua

The Courtyard

The Courtyard at Fullerton Hotel needs no introduction – it is one of the most popular high tea spots in Singapore. Bring your mom to enjoy creations like Raspberry Macaroons, Rose-flavoured Madeleines and Petit Cupcakes.

Priced at $46++, the Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea is available from 12 to 13 May 2012.

Yakitori Emmau

For Mother’s Day 2012, Yakitori Emmau at Ion Orchard is offering a special Collagen Tori Nabe set menu for 4 pax at only $120. The set comes with Caesar Salad; assorted Sashimi platter of Maguro, Salmon, Kanpachi, Mekajiki, Amaebi; Yakitori platter of Wagyu oroshi, Negima, Tsukune Umeshiso, Aspara Buta, Enoki Bacon; Tori Nabe soup which has a generous serving of ingredients; and the Enmaru Roll – an assortment of fresh sushi on a maki roll.

It is definitely more than enough food for a family of four, and at just $30/pax, I think it is a fantastic deal. If your mom loves Japanese food, this is the place to bring her for a treat.

The Mother’s Day promotion at Yakitori Emmau is available during lunch and dinner, and it runs for the entire month of May.

Initially, I wanted to suggest Cocotte at Wanderlust Hotel. But after hearing mixed reviews about the French restaurant, I decided to recommend La Petite Cuisine instead.

Located at Serene centre beside the popular Island Creamery, La Petite Cuisine is a no-frills French cafe where the food is above average but the main draw is definitely the affordable prices. For a slightly upmarket option, go to Au Petit Salut at Dempsey. They have one of the best set lunches in Singapore.

Korean Restaurants in Singapore

Most people are not very adventurous when it comes to food (I used to be like that before starting my food blog). Naturally, I can understand that most people prefer to go to somewhere reliable, and Crystal Jade is evidently one of them.

Crystal Jade Korean Restaurant at Ngee Ann City is surprisingly good and affordable. Be sure to try the fantastic Korean Ginseng Chicken Soup.

For Korean BBQ Buffet, go to Blue Garden Korean Restaurant at Link Hotel. The Korean BBQ buffet is priced at $19.90 for lunch and $26.90 for dinner.

I am not sure about you, but I think it is a cool experience for the whole family try something new. So how about having Spanish Food for Mother’s Day?

Bilbao Restaurant & Tapas Bar is conveniently located in town, at the second level of TripleOne Somerset. Bring your Mom to shop in Orchard and have a good Spanish dinner after that.

Another good place to have Spanish food is Don Quijote Spanish restaurant. They have been getting good reviews in the Singapore food scene, and if you do not want to go all the way West to Lorong Kilat, they have a new outlet at Dempsey.

Thai Restaurants in Singapore

It is a shame that not many people have heard of Sweet Salty Spicy as they have good Thai food. Not that I am complaining since I’d prefer them to stay under the radar.

But I guess the location makes a difference since Railmall at Bukit Timah is not exactly accessible. Let me suggest another Thai Restaurant for Mother’s Day if Railmall is too far.

Previously located at Hort Park, KHA (above picture) has recently shifted to Martin Road near Robertson Quay. Prices are not cheap, but this is an upmarket Thai establishment and you are paying for the ambiance after all. They have a kick-ass Tom Yam Soup and I am absolutely in love with the Red Curry Rubbed Wagyu Beef.

Exotic Cuisines in Singapore

For mothers who have an adventurous palate, there is a new Russian restaurant in town. Buyan Russian Restaurant at Duxton Hill promises you the full experience of Haute cuisine. In a quiet corner of Shaw Towers is Sofra Turkish Cafe & Restaurant. I think Mother’s Day is a good opportunity for us to venture out of our comfort zone and try new things. Turkish food for Mother’s Day, anyone?

I’m sure most of you are familiar with Peranakan food, but it is definitely an ‘exotic cuisine’ to those who are not living in this part of the World. Candlenut Kitchen at Neil Road has been getting raved reviews since opening last year. Be sure to try their delicious Kueh Pie Tee, Ngoh Hiang and the signature Ayam Buak Keluak.

I have no idea how Mother’s Day actually came about, but I’m thankful that we have a day dedicated specially to all our beloved mothers. Actually, everyday can be Mother’s day so long everyone in the family is happy together, but you know what? Mother’s day is another perfect excuse for us to go out and have a good feast and indulge a little.

It can be quite a headache when it comes to buying presents or thinking of ideas for Mother’s day celebration. Mothers being mothers, will always say: “It’s okay, save the money and don’t splurge on presents.”

My mom is a great woman, she will always save the best for my brother and me. I will be nothing without her. If you have seen my previous post, you’d know that my mom loves chili crabs, so we are probably going to continue our hunt for the best chili crab in Singapore.

I have yet to decide on where to go for mother’s day. Other than Chili crabs, the other option will definitely be buffet. My mother doesn’t have a big appetite, so it’s probably not worthwhile to bring her for an all you can eat buffet. But somehow, she absolutely love buffets.
