Nestled in the seemingly quiet Potong Pasir area is a newly opened ice cream joint that serves handcrafted gelato and coffee all day.

Since opening their doors on 19 October 2019, Sweet Cheeks has been delighting visitors with their selection of interesting gelato flavours that have been lovingly prepared in-house.

On our visit, we got a Waffle (S$5.80) served with a regular single scoop of Hazelnut with Nutella Swirl (S$3.70), and a premium single scoop of Fleur De Cao Dark Chocolate (S$4.70).

Like most ice cream shops in Singapore, the waffles are made fresh upon order. Even as we waited for our waffle to be ready, we could smell the buttery fragrance in the air which further heightened our anticipation for our dessert.

The waffle came served with the two scoops of gelato on top and honey drizzled all over the plate. We were initially worried that all the wet factors around the waffle might end up turning it soggy quicker, but we were glad that wasn’t the case.

Despite the gelato starting to melt, the waffle remained crispy and easy to cut through. The waffle was light and fluffy, and could easily pass off as a dessert on its own. However, pairing it with the accompanying gelato is just as good as it gave this sweet treat complementing textures and taste.

Of the two flavours that we ordered, we definitely liked Hazelnut with Nutella Swirl a little more than the Fleur De Cao Dark Chocolate as the flavour bore a slightly sweeter taste on a whole, which went quite well with the waffle. The Nutella swirl bits also added an interesting texture to the gelato that we haven’t tasted anywhere else.

On the other hand, Fleur De Cao Dark Chocolate would definitely be a good flavour for fans of dark chocolate as it had a slightly bitter but all-round rich taste which left a distinct, sweet aftertaste.

While the idea of supper is frowned upon by the fitness community, especially those of you who are now embarking on your “new year, new me” journey, it’s unfortunately, something that’s inescapable, no matter how disciplined you try to be.

When you’re forced to stay up late either for work, or what not, late-night hunger pangs will strike inevitably, and that’s where we come in. Supper is a quintessential part of our diets (we’re not sorry) and as such, it’s our moral duty to always know where to go whenever we feel hungry at night.

The Eastern part of Singapore bustles with several late-night eateries, some well-known and some not so much. Whatever the case, you’re in luck because here, we have sussed 12 of the most highly raved night-time supper spots in the East.

FEI FEI WANTON MEE

Located in Joo Chiat, many have claimed this shop to sell one of Singapore’s best wanton mee. While we’re on the fence on that, we must admit that their wanton mee is pretty decent. Their wanton mee is delicious as is, but if you’re the type who loves heat, then definitely go for their famous dry chilli version.

Their coin prata is a must-try and besides being moulded and cooked fresh upon order, comes with savoury sambal—nope, not curry—that just makes the dish so much more enjoyable (and interesting)

PONGGOL NASI LEMAK

Perhaps one of the more reputable Chinese-owned nasi lemak stalls in Singapore, this humble brand now has 3 outlets islandwide with one being the East—along Tanjong Katong Road. We love that their rice is fragrant and how their chicken wings are crispy, succulent and flavourful every time.

Aside from the usual chicken wing, egg and ikan bilis, feel free to add on items such as prawn fritters, fried wontons and more!

In the real world where life doesn’t always seem to go according to plan, there is little wonder why humans love the idea of magic. With the help of fantasy novels such as Harry Potter and The Hobbit, people are able to break away from daily mundanes and be part of a world that has mystical creatures, powerful wizards and not to mention, create magic.

If getting accepted into Hogwarts is a lifetime dream of yours, then you have to know more about Platform 1094, a wizard-themed cafe along Serangoon Road. Managed by the same team that is behind Fresh Fruits Lab, Platform 1094 is where your wizard dreams come true.

Besides what you can find on their regular menu, the cafe is introducing an all-new Harry Potter-themed English Afternoon Tea at S$55 for 2 pax where you can enjoy a selection of sweets and savouries that are inspired by the Harry Potter series. Think Chocolate Frogs, Owl Hootdoo Macarons and Turkey Bacon Quidditch Quiche. Platform 1094′s wizard-themed afternoon tea is available from Tuesdays to Sundays between 2pm to 6pm (reservations are necessary).

Put on the wizard robe, grab a pointed hat and choose a wand of your liking—a spellbinding session awaits.

A “RIDDIKULUS-LY” FUN PLACE TO UNLEASH YOUR INNER WIZARD

The magic begins once you step foot into Platform 1094.

Every detail at Platform 1094 is taken care of to ensure guests receive the most magical dining experience, from the ambience right down to their food. The rustic cafe is adorned with antiques such as lamps and a swinging chandelier that give the place a warm, orangey lighting. Guests sit on chairs that are designed with a deer (possibly paying tribute to Harry Potter’s Patronus) and dine at wooden tables.

Once you have settled down, it is time to play dress up! Put on your favourite wizard clock, scarf and pointed hat. If you are feeling it, you can even pick up a wand and wear a pair of round spectacles too. Just imagine all the cute pictures you get to take with your squad!

NEW HARRY POTTER-THEMED AFTERNOON TEA SET THAT IS “SIRIUS-LY” GOOD

Behold, the Hagrid’s English Afternoon Tea. Boasting a mixture of savoury and sweet items that are inspired by the fantasy novel, this is one extremely attractive afternoon tea set that will have the Harry Potter fans going crazy for. Just when you think you have seen it all, the tea set also lights up upon a flick of your wand!

Your wizard journey begins with the Bewitching Tuna Sandwich, followed by Potato Slyther-in Bacon with Cheddar Cheese, Avocado Salmon Weasled with Chicken Floss on Edible Magical Ladle and Turkey Bacon Quidditch Quiche.

Well, true Harry Potter fans will definitely be able to pick up familiar names and if you did not, then read those names out loud again!

Each dessert item was meticulously thought of before they are shortlisted to be in included in this tea set and boy, were we impressed by what we saw: the Owl Hootdoo Macarons that looked way too cute for consumption; tantalising Pumpkin Tartlets; Rock Cake served with Cauldron-Brewed Cream Cheese Dip; Rasp-Berry Potter & Mango-Nagall Mousse with its crazy swirls and the iconic Chocolate Frogs.

Of all that we tried, the Pumpkin Tartlets are deserving of a special mention. The creamy pumpkin filling had the right amount of sweetness that was not cloying on the taste buds and we liked how the layer of chocolate ganache on top adds an extra dimension of flavour.

Besides that, Hagrid’s English Afternoon Tea also includes Green Frog Flexi, which is essentially a thirst quenching green tea drink to complement the food.

TOP UP S$6 FOR HARRY POTTER LATTE OR HOT CHOCOLATE WITH GOLDEN SNITCH

For diners who drop by over the weekends, you get to top up S$6 to upgrade your drink to a hot cup of latte that comes with an intricate Harry Potter latte art.

Otherwise, you can also opt for hot chocolate, which comes with a Golden Stitch on top. Being such hardcore Harry Potter fans, you bet we took a million pictures of the cute drinks!

If your neighbourhood supper places are starting to bore you, here are 12 Supper Areas in Singapore For Your Late Night Hunger Pangs—we’ve got you covered no matter which part of Singapore you stay at! You are very welcome.

1. BALESTIER ROAD

When we mention Balestier, everyone thinks of Bak Kut Teh first. Despite the never-ending debate on which Bak Kut Teh eatery is better, 333 Bak Kut Teh is a crowd favourite. Balestier also has a number of chicken rice restaurants such as Loy Kee Chicken Rice and Boon Tong Kee that open until late, too.

Popular supper restaurants/eateries: 333 Bak Kut Teh, Boon Tong Kee, Founder Bak Kut Teh & Loy Kee Chicken Rice

Where to park: There are legal lots to park along the road. However, you can also park at the Whampoa Market open-air car park if you do not mind a short walk.

2. CHONG CHIN NAM ROAD

If you stay in the West of Singapore, or in the vicinity of Bukit Timah, you would have tried either Al-Azhar or Al-Ameen. Indian Muslim food is always a good choice for supper, be it the sinful prata or a lovely plate of Mee Goreng, But guess what? Bukit Timah actually has more to offer!

Popular supper restaurants/eateries: Al-Azhar Eating Restaurant, Al-Ameen Eating House, Joo Seng Teochew Porridge & Five Star Hainanese Chicken Rice

Where to park: You can park alongside the shop houses or the huge open-space public car park that is a stone’s throw away from the main supper stretch.

3. GEYLANG ROAD

Eminent Frog Porridge is frog leg porridge heaven and is synonymous with Geylang. Nothing is better than a warm bowl of porridge after a night out, or if you are craving for some comfort food to end your week off with your supper kakis?

You can also get really amazing claypot rice at Geylang Claypot Rice. Otherwise, Geylang also has many dim sum and hot pot places that open until late! Some notable ones include 126 Dim Sum Wen Dao Shi, Ladyboy Mookata and Da Long Yan Hot Pot.

4. GOLDEN MILE

We swear by Golden Mile’s Thai food eateries. Some of our frequent hang-outs are at either Diandin Leluk Thai Restaurant and Nana Thai. To indulge in spicy and delicious Thai food for supper is one of the best feelings ever.

5. JALAN KAYU

When at Jalan Kayu, eat prata, of course! Prata is a fail-proof supper option, and Thasevi Restaurant at Jalan Kayu is our all-time favourite. We’ve been patrons since we were kids! Those who are looking for a place to chill with bar grub and beers should consider One Place Bistro & Bar.

For something light, go to Selegie Soya Bean for some silky smooth beancurd and piping hot dough fritters. Tang Teahouse also offers consistently good dim sum.

Popular supper restaurants/eateries: Thasevi Famous Jalan Kayu Prata Restaurant, Jalan Kayu Prata Cafe, One Place Bistro & Bar, Selegie Soya Bean, Tang Teahouse & Thohirah Restaurant

6. KOVAN – UPP SERANGOON ROAD

The renowned Punggol Nasi Lemak is situated at a coffee shop that also offers other great eats. We especially love Yi Ji Fried Hokkien Prawn Mee there which we dub as one of the best in Singapore. There are also a few Teochew porridge stalls that open till late.

Popular supper restaurants/eateries: Punggol Nasi Lemak, Heng Long Teochew Porridge & Yi Ji Fried Hokkien Mee

7. LITTLE INDIA

Everybody comes here for Swee Choon and we can understand why. Not only is their Dim Sum delicious, it is extremely inexpensive. Of course, how can you miss out on the rich flavours of Indian cuisine at Khansama Tandoori Restaurant and Indian Mom’s Kitchen?

For something substantial and hearty, a meal at Beach Road Scissor-Cut Curry Rice will do the trick.

Popular supper restaurants/eateries: Swee Choon Tim Sum Restaurant, Khansama Tandoori Restaurant, Indian Mom’s Kitchen & Beach Road Scissor-Cut Curry Rice

8. RIVER VALLEY ROAD

While everybody flocks to Spize like a magnet after drinking or partying, we prefer dining at its next door neighbour, Al Afrose. The Indian Muslim food here is delicious, less expensive and the portions are much bigger.

Otherwise, there are also popular chicken rice stalls that open until late including Boon Tong Kee and Five Star Hainanese.

9. SERANGOON GARDENS

We frequent Chomp Chomp for mouthwatering BBQ Seafood. Sambal Stingray is probably one of the best dishes to get here, together with some La-La (Clams) and Sambal Kang Kong.

Both Srisun Express and RK Eating House satisfy our late-night cravings for teh towers and Indian-Muslim cuisine. Round your meal off at Oblong where you can get crispy waffles and interesting ice cream flavours.

Popular supper restaurants/eateries: Chomp Chomp Food Centre, Oblong, Srisun Express & RK Eating House

10. SIMPANG BEDOK

Simpang Bedok’s frontrunner is definitely Spize. While it might not be our favourite restaurant in Singapore, we certainly still love the food that is served here.

Other options you have at Simpang Bedok include New Mahamoodiya Restaurant and Syed Restaurant.

Helmed by Janice Wong, her award-winning artisan desserts are fascinating to say the least.

Happy 2nd birthday, our favourite waffles heaven Twenty Grammes!

Twenty Grammes is a dessert bar that has been so popular since its first outlet in North Bridge Road, and the newer outlet at Ang Mo Kio is no less inviting. They specialise in waffles and ice cream, and that’s pretty much the best things on earth.

In conjunction with their 2nd anniversary this month, Twenty Grammes has rolled out a dessert that is bound to get you excited—Hojicha Soft Serve on Waffle.

And on top of that, we have a really great deal for all of you. From now until 23 December 2016, quote ‘ladyironchef’ to get 50% OFF the second waffle or bingsu (on the lower-priced item) on weekdays.

Here are 10 Most Instagrammable Desserts From Twenty Grammes.

#1 S’MORES WAFFLE

Made up of Twenty Grammes’ signature crispy and fluffy Belgian waffles, the S’mores Waffle (S$15) is topped with melted torched marshmallows, chocolate hazelnut sauce, graham crackers, whipped cream and a scoop of ice cream to your preference. We recommend getting a chocolate-based ice cream flavour to go with this particular waffles!

#2 SASSY FELLOW

If you are not the biggest fan of chocolates, how does a banana waffle sound? The Sassy Fellow (S$12.90) features slices of fresh bananas cooked inside a waffle batter. The cooked waffles are then topped with more bananas, walnuts for an added crunch, maple syrup, sea salt caramel sauce and a huge scoop of Vanilla or Honey-Scotch Ice Cream.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

#3 ISABELLE WAFFLE

The Isabelle Waffle (S$16.50) is a full-black charcoal waffle topped with everything a health nut will love—greek yogurt, peaches, strawberries, blueberries, banana, granola, pumpkin seeds, maple syrup and a sprinkle of icing sugar. A very pretty one indeed, and it’s great for days when you don’t want to sin too much but still need your waffle fix.

#4 YUAN YANG WAFFLE

The Yuan Yang Waffle (S$15) is an Instagram hit. Half of the waffle is charcoal, and the other is the classic batter. This monochromatic beauty is topped off with a huge serving of milk soft serve, cookie sticks, granola and chocolate hazelnut sauce. Simple, but it works for our soul all the time. This has always been one of our favourites at Twenty Grammes.

#5 INJEOLMI BINGSU

Yes, you read it right. Twenty Grammes has introduced the Korean dessert to their menu! The Injeolmi Bingsu (S$12.90) is a classic rendition of the Korean snow ice dessert and is topped off with soybean powder.

#6 CHOCOLATE FUDGE BROWNIE BINGSU

The Chocolate Fudge Brownie Bingsu (S$14.50) is a more badass version with generous toppings; just look at those huge chunks of fudge brownies. Although this version isn’t quite like the traditional bingsu, it is definitely more satisfying and we prefer this to the former!

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>//

#10 2ND ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL – HOJICHA SOFT SERVE ON WAFFLE

Saving the best for the last—Twenty Grammes introduces Hojicha Soft Serve on Waffle (S$8.50) in conjunction with their 2nd anniversary. The soft serve sits nicely in a cup with bite-sized waffle pieces, and is decorated with beautiful lavender edible flowers. We loved the taste of the Hojicha waffle. Intense roasted flavours but not overpowering; just the way we like it!

From now until 23 December 2016, quote ‘ladyironchef’ to enjoy a 50% discount OFF any second waffle or bingsu (on the lower-priced item) at both Twenty Grammes outlets. The offer is only valid on weekdays, and is not applicable for takeaways.

On Fridays and Saturdays, and the eve of Public Holidays, Fresh Fruits Lab will open till 2am, and you can expect a supper menu that is nothing short of creative.

We are telling you that the late night dining menu is gonna make sinning worth the while. And that includes, behold, Unicorn Donuts! YOU HAVE TO TRY THEM, JUST BECAUSE. Fresh Fruits Lab is only serving only 40 #UnicornDonuts on Fridays, Saturdays, and the eve of Public Holidays from 10pm to 2am. Best supper food ever!

A series of tapas will be made available for supper, and they include bestsellers from the regular menu. Otah Sliders has got to be our favourite, as with the Beer Shrooms that are best with, well, beer. Yes, you can have your Truffle Fries too. Best supper food, right?

But you know what we truly, madly, deeply love?

THESE. #UnicornDonuts

We present you the insanely pretty Unicorn Donuts. Fresh Fruits Lab is the first in Singapore to introduce a donut ice-cream sandwich – well, it is quite literally so. Please, just take our money already.

It is in the whimsicality that reminds us of a unicorn – mystical, wild, and legendary. Premium ice-cream tucked in between fluffy homemade donuts, then lusciously covered in chocolate and all sorts of happiness. The Unicorn Donuts are a brilliant invention, and we couldn’t care less about other supper food anymore.

They come in an assortment of five flavours – The Original (S$6), Oreo & Cream (S$9), Fresh Fruits (S$9), Chocolate & Nuts (S$9), and the one that drove us nuts – Snack Donut (S$9). The fickle-minded ones and the gluttons can go straight for the Unicorn Donut Platter (S$19) that comes with two flavoured donut and an Original.

It is honestly not difficult to fall in love, and to know that they are limited by the day meant there is no hesitating about supper already; JUST DO IT.

The Unicorn Donuts are limited to 40 pieces from 10pm to 2am on Fridays, Saturdays, and eve of Public Holidays. You know this is one thing you must have on your Instagram timeline.

Truth be told, we were really upset when November 8 at Upper Thomson shut its doors a few months ago. Thankfully, the same people behind November 8 has opened a brand new cafe & bar concept in the same Thomson V One Building and it is called Five by Five (5 x 5).

The 2-week old casual establishment is decked in an all-white interior with minimalistic wooden furnishings. Five by Five is one of the rare few cafes in Singapore that opens till midnight daily (except for Tuesdays).

Tucked away from the main roads of Upper Thomson, Five by Five is a cozy space that serves espresso beverages up to Melburnian standards. Coffees (from S$3) are made from Common Man Coffee Roasters’ 22 Martin Blend and one can expect an aromatic heavy bodied cuppa with a dark chocolate lingering aftertaste.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="width: 336px;height: 280px"></ins>//

The homestyle main courses offered at Five by Five are delicious and unpretentious. If you are sick of the ubiquitous Eggs Benedict, try their Japanese Beef Stew (S$18.50) and Chicken Bleu (S$15.50).

The former is a wholesome Japanese curry-based casserole of braised beef chunks served with toasts on the side, while the latter is a deboned succulent chicken thigh stuffed with bacon and cheese complemented with chewy orzo rice pasta and a leafy green salad.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="width: 336px;height: 280px"></ins>//

Five by Five’s classic waffle (S$6) is a must-order; crisp on the outside and impossibly fluffy inside, we loved how consistent the texture is. You can choose to top up the tasty savoury delight with exotic ice-cream flavours (S$4.20 per deluxe scoop / S$4.80 per premium scoop) such as Coconut Taro, Thai Milk Tea, D24 Durian and whatnot.

When night approaches, Five by Five transforms into a laid back bar where you can unwind over draft beers and bottled beers. Enjoy their daily Happy Hour promotion from 5 – 9pm at just S$5 for half a pint of Kronenbourg Blanc or Kronenburg Lager. The bar-cum-cafe opens till midnight daily and Upper Thomson dwellers no longer have to head down to the awfully congested CBD for a drinking session.

Last but not least, you would be pleased to hear that Five by Five offers complimentary Wi-Fi to all dine-in customers.

While Melody and I don’t have the habit of eating late at night, there are times when we want a nice spot to have supper with friends and hangout till midnight. Most kitchens only operate till 10pm, and more often than not, they only serve a limited menu of finger food and drinks after that. Which is why we are happy to let you in on a little secret.

Quayside Fish Bar & Bistro, one of our go-to places for fresh and good quality seafood, opens till when the owls come out to play, and they have a late night nibbles menu which not only features your usual snacks, but also a pretty comprehensive selection of appetisers and mains.

Regulars at Quayside Fish Bar & Bistro will be thrilled to know that the signature Chilli Crab Linguine (S$28) is available on the late night menu. Other supper options include Tiger Beer Battered Halibut (S$26), Tuna Tataki (S$19), and Homemade Pumpkin Gnocchi (S$25). And if you want to do a little guilt-free indulging, there is always the Baby Romaine Lettuce (S$16).

Feeling peckish and just want a light bite? Go for the White Truffle Scented Shoestrings Fries (S$9) and a Bloody Mary Shooter (S$4) – you are ready to rock and roll all night! Besides, any time is a good time for Quayside Fish Bar & Bistro’s Truffle Fries!

Quayside Fish Bar & Bistro is a great destination for desserts, too. The Homemade Tiramisu (S$14) remains one of the best that we have had in town. And here’s the deal – we tried the White Truffle Flavoured Lava Chocolate Cake (S$12) recently, and we fell head over heels in love with it. We can’t say what exactly, but it is one rendition you must not miss out on. Alternatively, the Black Sesame Cheese Pound Cake (S$14), with chocolate soil, dehydrated lychee, and a scoop of chocolate gelato, is a fine way to end your night.

Au Chocolat, opened by the folks behind Ku De Ta and Catalunya, occupies a huge space at a corner of Marina Bay Sands. It is divided into two sections: a retail confectionery store where you can find all sorts of delicious snacks – such as slice cakes, cupcakes, gelato, truffle – and fun merchandise. The other half is the bistro which has an all-day dining menu.

We have been to Au Chocolat many times, and tried quite a few items from the bistro and confectionery. Here are some of the highlights.

The menu is huge, running from handmade crepes ($16-20), to breakfast food ($15-22), finger food and snacks ($12-18), soup and salad ($11-20), burgers and sandwiches ($16-25), pasta ($23-25), entrees ($22-32) and desserts ($16-18).

We started with their Truffle Fries ($15), a generous serving of crispy fries drizzled with fragrant white truffle oil and seasoned with truffle sea salt. The Mushroom Bite ($14), next to arrive on the table, was rather run-of-the-mill. For the price, we would rather get another portion of the truffle fries.

We have heard a lot about Au Chocolat’s Ultimate Benedict ($22), so we knew we had to give it a try. Pancakes formed the base of the dish, and it was topped with spinach, tomatoes, crispy bacon, roasted ribeye steak, roasted chicken and two poached eggs. It has a generous drizzling of red wine and dark chocolate infused hollandaise sauce.

Each of the ingredient was good on its own, but when you put everything together, it became too overwhelming. Simply put, we were not too impressed.

Our favourite entree is the crispy Duck Confit ($27), which comes with potato mash, white wine poached pear and topped off with a tangy chocolate orange sauce. It was one of the best duck confits that I have had in recent times. Definitely one of the must-order dishes when you are dining at Au Chocolat.

A commendable dish is the Steak Frites ($35). I was not expecting much of the pan-seared ribeye steak, if only because many places tend to serve mediocre steaks, so I was pleasantly to find that this was really good. It was a perfectly cooked steak which was juicy, tender and well seasoned. Plus, it was accompanied by tasty truffle fries and red wine sauce on the side.

Other enticing options on the entrees menu include a delicious corn-fed Roasted Chicken ($24) and the rich and flavourful Boeuf Bourguignon ($26).

We also had their Stuffed French Toast ($18). Two slices of brioche bread filled with berries and mascarpone cheese. There is nothing wrong with this dish, but other than the pretty appearance, there is little about it that stands out.

Dessert lovers will surely go crazy at Au Chocolat here. Among the six options under the dessert section, we had the Au Chocolat Tower Cake ($18), a huge six layers of moist chocolate cake served with a vanilla gelato; and the Caramel Apple Skillet ($17) – which was a baked caramel pecan cake drizzled with salted caramel sauce. If you have been on a hunt to find the best chocolate cake in Singapore, you must try Au Chocolat’s rendition.

Besides that, we have also tried many different desserts from Au Chocolat’s pastry counter over several visits. The noteworthy ones include the Chocolate Tart, Red Velvet Cheesecake, Kalamansi Cake and Peanut Butter Cheesecake.

Advertorial

Occasionally I like to indulge in a sinful supper, and even though I have my trusty list of late night dining places to turn to, there are times when I would run out of places to go to, too.

Some restaurants are great spots for late night dining, but they often close by midnight, and of course, it is impossible to dine at expensive restaurants all the time. Some eateries, on the other hand, have good supper food, but they are not places where you would want to linger for long.

My ideal supper place should be somewhere that a) opens across wee hours, b) serves hearty supper food at affordable prices, c) offers a nice environment to hang out and d) is located conveniently. And Xin Wang Hong Kong Cafe fits the bill perfectly.

I was thrilled when I learned that 13 of the 16 Xin Wang Hong Kong Cafes have extended their opening hours till 4am daily. Whoopie! What a great news for supper lovers.

The good people from Thai Express Group (parent company of Xin Wang Hong Kong Cafe) hosted us for a late night party, and all of us had so much fun playing games while pigging out.

Also, to celebrate the newly revised operation timings, Xin Wang Hong Kong Café is launching a new Facebook ‘Spot the Wee Owls’ contest. Read more to find out more about Xin Wang Hong Kong Cafe and the contest.

I am sure Xin Wang Hong Kong Cafe is a familiar name for most people. But not everyone knows that it has 200 items on the menu. Diners can choose from not only the typical Hong Kong cafe dishes – like Bo Lo buns (pineapple buns), congees and noodles – but also local Singapore favourites, tim sum and tea-time snacks.

Some of the items that you cannot miss out at Xin Wang include their Hong Kong style western food, uber-thick French toast with maple syrup, cheese baked dishes, and of course, the signature mango shaved ice.

Besides the food, I love that Xin Wang Hong Kong Cafe has a cosy ambience, with nice cushioned seats and seating booths for us to lounge around chit-chatting to the background music.

Anyway back to the ‘Spot the Wee Owls’ contest. It will commence in mid-October for four days throughout the month – 14th (Sunday), 20th (Saturday), 26th (Friday) and 1st November (Thursday). All you have to do is to visit any of the five selected Xin Wang Hong Kong Café outlets on every contest day from 12am to 4am and spot Xin Wang Wee Owls cosying up in the restaurant. Snap a photo together with the Wee Owls and post it on Xin Wang’s Facebook Page.

There will be a total of 12 Lucky winners with three chosen per contest day. Each winner will receive an Exclusive Limited Edition Xin Wang Wee Owls Membership Card. So, be sure to stay tune to Xin Wang’s Facebook Page for the five selected outlets set to be announced a day before every contest day!

Xin Wang Hong Kong Cafe is definitely the place to visit when you have food cravings late into the night. And remember to follow them on facebook to get the latest updates.

TCC High Tea Set

The Connoisseur Concerto (previously known as The Coffee Connoisseur) is one of the popular Coffee Chains in Singapore. What makes TCC different from its competitors is the unique design at each boutique cafe.

TCC has been rolling out a different high tea set every month, and at just $12.90++, it is one of the most value for money afternoon tea sets. For those of you who are keen to enjoy the promotion at The Connoisseur Concerto, it is available from 2pm to 6pm daily.

The picture of the high tea set above is the one that I had two months ago. The Connoisseur Concerto is currently serving a Spring tea set for March and it comes with different scones, sandwiches and cakes with tea/coffee.

I like the idea that The Coffee Connoisseur TCC is changing the cakes and pastries for the high tea set every month. In addition, the affordable prices make it possible for everyone to enjoy a leisure afternoon tea.

Besides sharing the High Tea Set, we ordered another two desserts from TCC’s ala carte menu.

Two of my friends are big fans of chocolate lava cake, and they have tried many places for this popular dessert. When I asked them where can I get the best molten chocolate lava cake in Singapore, they replied: TCC.

After trying The Coffee Connoisseur’s Dark Chocolate Cake ($11), I have to agree with them that it is amongst the better ones that I’ve had.

DO NOT order TCC’s Bread and butter pudding ($11.5). You have been warned.

* * *

With so many cafes in Singapore, The Connoisseur Concerto is a good place to have a) desserts for afternoon tea, b) a hangout place to meet friends and c) late night dining at their 24 hours outlet located in Orchard road.

I am not too sure about the main course there, but most of my friends who frequently eat at TCC seem to agree that they have pretty decent food. How about you? What do you usually order at The Coffee Connoisseur Cafe?
