// The winners of the giveaway are #345 and #495. I have another upcoming hotel giveaway, do look out for it!
Bangkok is a city of contrasts: the chaos and traffic jams can drive you mad, but at the same time, you can find peace and solace in the beautiful temples and spa treatments.
Apart from crazy shopping, wonderful street food and relaxing massages, one of my favourite things about Bangkok is the abundance of beautiful hotels.
During my first trip to Bangkok last month, I stayed in Sofitel Bangkok Sukhumvit (189 Sukhumvit Road Soi 13-15 Klongtoey Nua Wattana, Bangkok 10110, Thailand Tel: 02 126 9999), and it was a memorable experience. Luxurious, elegant, modern, it is the perfect place from which to explore the city.
P.S. I am giving away two nights stay at Sofitel Bangkok Sukhumvit for two lucky winners. Read on to find out how you can win the hotel stay.
Sofitel Bangkok Sukhumvit is located on Sukhumvit Road in Central Bangkok, and you can easily reach the city’s shopping area like Central World, Siam, Emporium via the BTS Skytrain (the best way to beat the maddening traffic).
Upon stepping inside Sofitel Bangkok Sukhumvit, I texted my travelling companions – Velda and Viola who arrived on an earlier flight – “I don’t think I will be leaving the hotel, it is so awesome!”

The hotel has 345 guestrooms and suites which include 233 luxury rooms, 75 luxury club millesime rooms and 32 prestige suites. We were very lucky to have the luxury club millesime rooms during our stay in Bangkok.
Just past the door, you arrive in a living room which has a lush and comfy sofa. I loved that the beautifully designed bathroom, but what really called out to me was the bedroom – I could stay in bed all day long.
Besides providing the basic amenities, the luxury club millesime rooms also offer a Bose home theatre sound systems, and an in-room Espresso machine, to name but a few. Not that we managed to use all the facilities, but still, it is nice to know that they are available.

I am usually not very hardworking in the morning, but there was no way I could resist the lure of the gorgeous pool.

Most people probably would not associate Bangkok with fine dining French cuisine – after all, the street food is amazing – but if you are looking to celebrate a special occasion, do check out L’Appart, which serves French food with Thai influence.
When you dine at L’Appart, it feels like as though you are in a Parisian apartment. You can either choose to dine in the main dining room which is essentially furnished as a library; at the chef’s table where you get to see the action; or at the open terrace which gives you a spectacular view of Bangkok’s skyline.
The menu is divided into two parts: Chef Jeremy inspiration from the market, a menu which features the freshest ingredients (changes fortnightly); and L’Appart signature dishes. From the tapas menu, I started with a pan fried foie gras (B250), which was nicely paired with a mango confit chutney. This was followed by a salmon tartar, and a saffron tempura lobster black ink risotto (B2000) which tasted as good as it looked. Desserts (B280 each) like the lemon meringue tart, green tea opera, and oreo cheesecake ended the meal on a sweet note.

If you are craving for something sweet, you must visit Le Macaron – a patisserie that features an array of pastries, desserts and savoury items. Think hand-made chocolates, bread and macarons.

Sofitel Bangkok Sukhumvit is without a doubt, one of the best hotels in Bangkok for business travellers and those who want to indulge in a five star hotel experience. If you are looking for a place to stay in Bangkok, I’d highly recommend it. However, if you prefer something that is more fun and hip, you should check out Sofitel So Bangkok (where I stayed during my second trip to Bangkok last month). I will share more on that in another post.

I love Bangkok because of its streets so full of character and hidden surprises. And of course, its tasty treats!
I love Bangkok for its people (save for the occasional crooks that try to con tourists), for their welcoming and hospitable nature. Not to mention, it is a haven to meet people from all walks of life.
I love Bangkok because it is the perfect place to unwind. Life there is.. slower, and different. It gives you a tiny break from home and lets you take in their atmosphere with ease and excitement at the same time.
I love Bangkok because there is an abundance of activities to indulge in and there will always be something to look forward to next.
Bangkok is such an awesome place to have a getaway.
Totally yummy street food, cheap relaxing massages, shopping paradise. It would be perfect if it our days there could end with an awesome stay at Sofitel.
Even with the heat in Bangkok, I still love it, for their local designers, really cheap and good food fare and for sightseeing. Exploring all the smaller details in Chatuchak, having their coconut ice cream and the nightlife over there is something else as well. Street food has got to be one of the better experiences there
Life there is definitely slower paced as compared to Sg and I could always do with something like that every once in awhile. Always good to relax somewhere else for a change.
A stay in Sofitel bangkok Sukhumvit will complete the whole package with it’s beautiful interior. (dining, room allocations alike) A 5 star hotel experience will be a highlight in my Bangkok, thailand travels.
i love bangkok as while crowded and noisy, it can be simple and tranquil in its way as well … also, for chatuchuk
just from the photos on ur blog … i know it is the hotel i wld love to stay at when i visit BKK as it looks sooooo cozy
Love it as it is
My friends gush endlessly of Bangkok’s awesome street food and cheap shopping but I’ve never tried them for myself – the last time I went with my family and apparently, we had gone to all the wrong places.
However, what truly draws me is the cheap traditional thai massage that is ubiquitous in Bangkok. This overworked and tense muscles of mine could use some loosening.
Winning a complimentary stay to Sofitel would be perfect for me to unwind and reward myself when the academic semester ends!
I luv bkk for it’s delicious food, shopping, massage and the friendly smiles of it’s people,
Would definitely luv to stay at sofitel Bangkok as it’s chic and contemporary and a stay here would truly be
Memorable!
I like Bangkok as this is a place of good food and great shopping.
I want to stay at Sofitel because I have never stayed before at such a luxurious hotel.

I would like to stay in Sofitel because I have never stayed in such a luxurious hotel before. I stayed at Novotel Platinum previously and I thought it was good. But Sofitel would definitely be better! The pictures made me so excited! Looking forward to win this!
I love Bangkok because its a place that always makes me very happy! It is truly a land of smiles where everyone is so friendly and nice, despite having a slight language barrier at times. Even I don’t really enjoy tomyum, there is so many other food that I love in Bangkok! (MK and BBQ Plaza are just some of them) Everything is so cheaply priced and delicious! Oh, and how can I forget to mention the shopping in Platinum and Union Mall, pretty clothes at 1/4 the price of Singapore’s!
I would love to stay at Novotel Platinum as the place looks so pretty and luxurious! I usually stay at my Thai friends’ houses when I visit them in Bangkok so it would be nice to be able to stay in such a well-designed hotel for my 9th time in Bangkok during Jan 2013!
Bangkok is shop, massage, street food, drinks & repeat!
Bangkok has always been the destination for me & my girlfriends annual trip. Shopping in bangkok needs hell lotsa stamina but there’s where the fun part is. Chatuchak coconut ice-cream is to die!

i love bangkok because that’s where my dad’s distributor turned mentor and best friend resides. Although he has since passed on due to health complications two years ago, every year we still make a trip to bangkok to pay our respects and to meet up with the man whom he left his company to. And also a girl whom he has funded through her educational years out of his kindness. I’d like to stay in sofitel sukkhumvit because I’m usually always in the pratunam area.
