One of the more frequent questions asked by my readers is what cameras I use, and I also have many asking me for recommendations on which ones to get. Well, there is no definite answer, because it really depends on individual’s needs, preferences and budget. But if I were to recommend one camera for a day-to-day all-purpose functionality, it would be the Canon PowerShot G16.

When Canon asked if I would like to play with the new Canon PowerShot G16, the idea of owning the new Canon camera is impossible to resist, and I said yes in a heartbeat.
The Canon G16 has quickly become my favourite camera for travelling. Since getting the Canon G16, I have been bringing it with me everywhere I go as it is light yet sturdy, super responsive and takes very good photos, especially in low light conditions.
Like the old saying goes: “A photo tells a thousand words”, so in this post, I will show you some of the photos that I have taken with my Canon G16, and also share with you 5 reasons why I love the camera.

I am not going to go on and on about the technical stuff because you can easily find many good reviews online. Instead, I want to tell you why this camera is probably the only one you will ever need.
The Canon G16 is suitable and ideal for people who just want a small and compact camera that is able to take high quality photos to document their day-to-day adventures and experiences.

Quick and very responsive
When I am travelling, I often point and shoot to capture moments. And this is when the Canon G16 comes in very handy. I can just take it out from my bag, and shoot everything instantly.
People who are eating with me usually have to wait for me to take photos of food, but nowadays everything is a breeze. Point, shoot and eat. Done!

Light yet sturdy
The Canon G16, much to my surprise and something that made me love it even more, is light yet sturdy. When we were in Hong Kong, I could bring it out for the whole day, while juggling Melody’s shopping bags, without breaking a sweat. Besides the weight, the camera has a good grip, and it feels professional when you hold it. I cannot reiterate how important this is.

Crystal clear quality images
Most of the typical smartphone cameras take decent shots but have sacrificed resolution. So this is where the Canon G16 comes in if you are looking for high quality photos. All my photos taken with the Canon G16 are perfectly sharp and clear. The quality remains for both web and print-outs.
I can’t help but gush at the photos that I took in Boracay. The sand is so white and the water has an amazing gradient of blues. No words can do justice to this paradise, but my photos really tell you everything you need to know about this picturesque island. These photos are memories that will last a lifetime.

Perfect under low light conditions
I have tried taking photos using my smartphone before, but nothing comes close to the shots that the Canon G16 can produce under low light conditions. The first time I used it to take photos of food in a restaurant with very dim lighting, I was completely stunned by how good it was. Well, I still am – the camera never fails to amaze me. I dare say it is better than most smartphone cameras under low light conditions.
When we were at Bangkok, the seafood and Thai dishes were tantalizing and we gobbled every bit of it. Though they were not the most photogenic dishes – and even more difficult to take a good photo under poor lighting – I love the colors of this shot and how it reminds me of the good dinner we had!

Suitable for all occasions
Be it food, portraiture, or travel photographs, it is suitable for all occasions – anywhere, any way. Just look at the colours and sharpness of my photos.

If you want a good camera that takes quality shots and is as convenient as your smartphones, I cannot think of a better one than the Canon PowerShot G16. It is not only light and affordable, but also takes gorgeous photos that you can compile into a journal to document your daily life.
