&Made Burger by Chef Bruno Menard Singapore

&Made Burger

&Made is a burger joint by the Delicia Group and Chef Bruno Menard, who previously helmed a 3-Michelin Star restaurant in Tokyo.

I have high expectations of my burgers, so I was very eager to try out their renditions. I have been to &Made several times, and while their burgers are made of good quality ingredients, they lack a certain ‘oomph’. In short, they are decent, but not life-changing.

That said, I still believe that &Made is worth a visit for two reasons. First, the location at Pacific Plaza is not only very convenient, but also relatively quiet – I can have a nice dinner without facing the crazy crowd in town. Second, the burgers, while not out-of-this-world good, are simple and comforting – something that I can eat on a regular basis.

Wild Honey Scotts Square Singapore

Wild Honey Scotts Square

Brunch is easily Singapore’s favourite meal. Fluffy pancakes drenched in maple syrup and accompanied by butter, Eggs Benedicts drowned in rich hollandaise sauce, or a hearty big breakfast of eggs, streaky bacons, sausages and toast – it is almost impossible to not like brunch.

In a city that has seen almost every restaurant and café serving brunch on weekends, Wild Honey has done remarkably well. It is one of the first few places that offers all-day brunch. It seems to have the right formula: brunch food made from produce that is sourced from the best in-season markets over the world – with very familiar flavours that would appeal to diners of all agw. There is no wonder both Wild Honey branches at Mandarin Gallery and Scotts Square are always packed.

Nakajima Suisan Grilled Fish Singapore

Nakajima Suisan

Nakajima Suisan Grilled Fish at Takashimaya’s Japanese food court is one of the places that I usually go to when I want a quick-fix in town. The prices of the set meals — choose from Salmon Teriyaki ($12.50), Gindara Teriyaki ($14.50), and Shio Saba ($7.50) — are pocket-friendly. If you are meeting your friends in Orchard Road, head here for a simple and satisfying meal.

Il Cielo Hilton Singapore

Il Cielo

Il Cielo is located on the 24th floor of Hilton Singapore, right beside the pool. Upon arriving at the restaurant, I was pleasantly surprised to see that it is very small, cosy and intimate. I also like the fact that the Italian restaurant is very focused. They only have a few dishes under each category of the menu – because they pride themselves on the quality and standard of every item.

Shiok Maki from Koh Grill & Sushi Bar

Shiok Maki

I’ve written about Koh Grill & Sushi Bar’s before, but I thought I’d just share it again, because lately, the whole Singapore seems to be going gaga over their Shiok Maki.

Koh Grill & Sushi Bar is a small eatery that sits within Wisma’s Food Republic, and they serve honest Japanese food at affordable prices. And the one dish that makes everyone go back again and again is the Shiok Maki. It is a maki made up of avocado, unagi and aburi salmon, drenched with a supremely addictive creamy sauce that is seemingly a legit mixture of mayo and mentai, then topped with a copious amount of tobiko. Well, no one really knows the recipe, but sounds tempting already?

The Shiok Maki is hands down one of the best things I’ve ever had in life. Trust me, I am not exaggerating. This is surely one place to head to for a quick fix of Japanese food in between shopping at Orchard Road. Be prepared to queue though; an hour’s wait is the norm.
