Audra Morrice, best known as a resident judge on MasterChef Asia and a finalist in MasterChef Australia 2012, has constantly impressed many with her ability to cook and bake and is now also a culinary consultant for many organisations and an ambassador for Singapore Tourism Board. Following her success, this Nigella Lawson of Asia has her own cooking series—Tasty Conversations.

From 26 to 29 October 2017, fans in Singapore will have the privilege to taste her cooking through an exclusive 5-course wine dinner at Pool Grill at Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel. At S$128++ per person, gourmands will be treated to a lavish feast, as well as an opportunity to get up close and personal with Audra.

Using the best of Australian produce and Asian cooking styles, allow Audra to take you on a magic carpet ride of flavours and textures expressed through her indulgent creations. Set amidst the enchanting ambience by the pool and under the starry skies at Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel; this is an evening not to be missed.

LAVISH BUFFET SPREADS

Take it up a notch this holiday and impress your loved ones with a swoon-worthy festive lunch/dinner buffet at Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel’s Marriott Cafe. Their lavish spread is what we look forward to every year.
Now, now, where should we even begin?

Be enchanted by the spread of holiday delights at Marriott Cafe. Tuck into an array of hearty roasts such as the aromatic Slow-roasted Beef Striploin with Port Wine Sauce and Horseradish Cream; Traditional Roast Turkey; Roast Pork Saddle with Prunes & Pancetta Stuffing; Pan-fried Duck Foie Gras with Fig Jam & Port Wine Reduction, and more.

Looking for some seafood? The selection of fresh and grilled seafood will leave you impressed.

You have your usual fresh seafood on ice; and then there are the savoury ones such as Baked Oysters Florentine; Gratinated Prawns; Lobster prepared in Catalana style, and more.

For those with a sweet tooth, Marriott Cafe boast a stunning variety of decadent Yuletide sweet treats available at the dessert station. Get ready to be wowed with some out-of-the box festive goodies such as Avocado Lemon Minestrone Fruits; Chocolate Breton Sable with Coffee Ganache and Pink Champagne Jelly to name a few.
Your Christmas dinner at Marriott Cafe will be made better with live carollers belting out some of your favourite Christmas classics too!

TAKEAWAY YULETIDE GOODIES

If you are having a party of your own at the comfort of your own home, good news is you can take home these exquisite culinary inventions to spruce up your festive dining table and share them with your family and friends.

The Turducken – Boneless Chicken and Duck Stuffed Turkey with Madeira Sauce is one of Marriott Cafe’s new takeaway items this year. By the way, turkey + chicken + duck = Turducken, geddit? The three-bird roast is essentially an out-of-the-world creation; think deboned chicken and duck stuffed into a tender turkey.

No Christmas is complete without succulent turkey and leg ham and you can have them at your celebrations! Truffle Buttered Roast Turkey with Finanziera Terrine & Madeira Sauce is a returning favourite but the star of the show is the Honey & Clove Glazed Ham (Bone-In).

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

We noticed how everyone—including us—could not stop raving about the leg ham. Like literally everyone on the table was so impressed upon first bite that we ended up spending the night with more ham slices.

Truffle Buttered Roast Turkey with Finanziera Terrine & Madeira Sauce (4.5-5kg / S$238); Honey & Clove Glazed Ham with Cinnamon Pineapple Sauce (Bone-in) (5-6kg / S$205 |9-10kg / S$405) and Boneless Chicken & Duck Stuffed Turkey Turducken with Madeira Sauce (4.5-5kg / S$258) are among the bestsellers.

Gorgeous, instagram-worthy log cakes will be an instant hit at your party. We love the Coffee Praline Yule Log Cake (1kg / S$68), Pandan Vanilla Snow White Cake (1kg / S$68) and Red Velvet Yule Log Cake (1kg / S$68).

That’s not all, if you’re going for the classics, then consider the dried fruit bread Christmas Stollen (500g / S$26, 1kg / S$40) and beautiful Gingerbread House (small / S$20, large / S$70) perfect for a celebration of any size.

Christmas is not just a special occasion for families and friends, but also a great season to thank your clients and to wish them a merry christmas. You can surprise them with a choice of three luxurious hampers filled with glorious savouries and sweets, namely Dazzle (S$190), Sparkle (S$280) and Royale (S$450).

Wan Hao Chinese Restaurant – an award-winning favourite at Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel – reopens its door after a major refurbishment with a refreshing new look and a repertoire of well-executed, nutritious Cantonese delicacies.

Inspired by elements from the four arts – “Qin” (zither), “Qi” (strategy board games), “Shu” (calligraphy) and “Hua” (painting), be greeted by dramatic black and gold colours, curated calligraphy works and art pieces, booth seats akin to giant jewel boxes; resplendent and luxurious.

If you are looking for exclusive dining experiences, there are four private rooms for hosting prestigious guests and family gatherings. Leading the culinary team is Executive Chinese Chef Brian Wong Shiuh Yean, who is elevating culinary excellence to new heights with a new menu of remarkable Cantonese cuisine.

There are many reasons to visit the refreshed Wan Hao Chinese Restaurant at Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel, and here is what you can expect.

What we really love about the exquisite Cantonese delights in Wan Hao Chinese Restaurant is the usage of fresh, premium ingredients. Chef Brian believes in using minimal seasoning, and to bring out the essence of these ingredients because it is precisely their natural flavours that we should savour and appreciate.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

Wan Hao Chinese Restaurant is one of the most reliable Cantonese restaurants in Orchard Road when you have a dim sum craving.

Not be to missed for lunch are Steamed Shrimp Dumpling with Black Truffle & Cordyceps Flower (S$6++ for two pieces); Steamed Sweet Corn Bun with Water Chestnut & Purple Potato Skin (S$4.50++ for two pieces); and Steamed Red Bean Sponge Cake (S$4.50++ for two pieces).

Fried dim sum items to look out for are Crispy Mango Prawn in Rice Roll (S$6.50++ per portion), Deep-fried Taro Dumpling with Mini Abalone & Scallop (S$10.50++ for two pieces) and Vegetarian Pan-Fried 5-Grain Pumpkin Cake (S$4.50++ for two pieces).

Look forward to new, delectable appetisers such as Chilled Duck Wing with Spicy Passion Fruit Sauce (S$12++ per portion); Chilled Duck Tongue with Spicy Sauce (S$12++ per portion); and Spicy Hong Kong Style Bi Feng Tang Deep-fried Iberico Pork with Fried Garlic (S$12++ per portion), and more. These are more full-bodied options with flavours that will explode in your mouth.

But of course, there are the lighter and more nutritious options such as the Stewed Bird’s Nest with Egg White, Crab Meat & Superior Soup (S$68++ per person).

Bird’s Nest is widely known for its health benefits and Wan Hao’s rendition comes with egg white, fresh crab meat and a savoury superior soup that is braised with Chinese ham, old chicken and pork loin for more than six hours.

Meticulously prepared for a week, another luxury item that is worth indulging in is the premium South Africa Dried Abalone with Japanese Shiitake Mushroom in Chef’s Secret Sauce (S$128++ per person for 15-Head, S$98++ per person for 22-Head) – which is derived from ingredients such as Chinese ham, pork ribs and old chicken.

Also not to be missed are the Deep-fried Prawn with Black Truffle Mayonnaise & Broccoli (S$35++ per portion) and the Wok-fried Iberico Pork with Home-style Spiced Sauce (S$30++ per portion).

The former is coated in a super addictive black truffle mayonnaise sauce, while the latter blends the wok hei of Chinese cooking with the marvellous Spanish Iberico pork.

Another crowd pleaser is the Wok-fried Local Lobster with Deep-fried Garlic in Spicy Hong Kong Style ‘Bi Feng Tang’, a marriage of succulent lobster meat and aromatic minced garlic offering an addictive crunch.

If you can only have one dessert, it has to be the Deep-fried Crispy Durian (S$16++ for four pieces); because it is only Singaporean that we embrace the bittersweet flavours and creaminess of the tropical fruit encased in light, crispy batter, right? You get the taste, you get the texture.

You should be familiar with Wan Hao Chinese Restaurant at Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel if you like elevated classic Chinese dishes. It is a family favourite, and this Chinese New Year will be brought to greater heights with their new Executive Chinese Chef, Brian Wong in house to helm the prestigious restaurant.

Well-known for his impeccable culinary skills and passion for exquisite culinary creations, Chef Brian has had many culinary awards to his name at the young age of 32. His experience from working in many notable establishments will be yet another reason to visit Wan Hao Chinese Restaurant.

For the upcoming lunar celebrations, Chef Brian has created five delectable Prosperity Menus, including one vegetarian menu for guests of Wan Hao Chinese Restaurant. Using only luxurious and quality ingredients that can be enjoyed by the whole family, here is what you can expect for all your important lunar dinners from now till 22 February 2016.

For those who are having your reunion dinner at home, there is an early bird special of 25% off if you order Wan Hao’s Nourishing Deluxe Pen Cai with Pig Trotter (Takeaway) before 01 Feb 2016.

Wan Hao Chinese Restaurant has a traditional yet sleek facade.

With various communal dining areas, private rooms are also available for booking and are recommended for bigger crowds, especially during Chinese New Year when precious time should be spent with your loved ones, and the wonderful spread of food should be enjoyed within the plush interiors of a private dining room.

Of course, every Chinese restaurant would have their idea(s) of Yu Sheng. Wan Hao is keeping theirs as true to the classic one as possible, but with topnotch ingredients for a more elaborate taste.

A Yu Sheng that contains more than the usual salmon, Wan Hao’s version also has salmon, scallops, tuna, lobster and even caviar to boast. It is available in the Good Luck & Abundance Set Menu, priced at S$1888++ (for a group of 10 people).

Well, it is the season of get-togethers to welcome a new year of prosperity and abundance, and we Chinese sure believe in eating well to start the year right! The set meal really gets you the best of everything. Your yusheng will be loaded with goodies, as with the other dishes of the night.

For Yu Sheng takeaways, there are basic ones to choose from – Auspicious Salmon Yu Sheng with Shredded Cod Fish (S$68 nett for small, S$136 nett for large), Prosperity Tuna Yu Sheng with Jellyfish (S$68 nett for small, S$136 nett for large), and Good Fortune Abalone Yu Sheng with Bonito Flakes (S$88 nett for small, S$176 nett for large).

Wan Hao’s Nourishing Deluxe Pen Cai with Pig Trotter (S$738 nett for small [6 persons], S$1388 nett for large [10 persons] is the ultimate treat for one and all in the family.

The premium price tag only means the very best 14 ingredients and a taste that is nothing less than befitting for even the most royal. Brimming with collagen, this basin of goodness features pig trotters – the centrepiece of the Pen Cai – that is extremely tender from braising.

Huge and fleshy 3-head Australian abalones also fill the basin in generous portions; now that’s real extravagance. Other ingredients in the basin includes roast duck (that was so good), large conpoy, sea cucumber, fish maw, dried oyster, black mushroom, prawn, Chinese cabbage, black moss, mustard greens, turnip and beancurd.

That was quite a mouthful, but it also shows just how full the pot is! Nothing says ‘treat yourself’ more than a pot of gold like this. It might be one of the most expensive Pen Cai around this Chinese New Year, but it sure is among the best to indulge in.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

Pool Grill has gone through a makeover and is now a stunner with show-stopping a la carte, brunch and set lunch menus to beat. Whether you are looking at a relaxed set lunch at $33++ or a romantic date night, Pool Grill offers the perfect location for you to dine in.

Start your meal with the Pool Grill’s tableside Caesar Salad, and be treated to a ‘show’ by a staff member who will prepare your salad ala tableside-style for you.

This salad rides up a notch because of the thought put into the preparation, and we were more than excited to see how the salad was tossed and served. The signature salad is with romaine lettuce, bacon, parmesan, anchovies and more. It is dressed with a nice combination of Worcestershire sauce, olive oil and tabasco.

The Rare Yellow Fin Tuna Tataki with compressed watermelon, goat cheese mousse and chia & flax seeds is a complex creation, but this colourful dish balances refreshing watermelon and cheese mousse with the freshly-seared tuna slices; it is light on the palette yet substantially satisfying.

You can also choose to start your meal with a refreshing soup. The Chilled Honey Melon Soup with poached prawns and Serrano ham is unique combination that intrigued us with its surprising taste; it was like drinking a fruit juice! When you balance out sweet and savoury to a faultless result like this, you know your meal is going to be enjoyable.

While some people choose to not take lamb, we say they are missing out when there are amazing lamb dishes such as this Seared Lamb Loin out there. The preparation of the lamb is inspired by the traditional Wellington – blackened on the outside like the conventional Wellingtons do with mushroom duxelle.

Accompanied by foie gras pate and croutons, the lamb still stole the limelight with an immaculate medium-rare centre.

Tuna is loved by many and is especially great when cooked with a nice and light sear on the outside, while still retaining a pink and raw center. The Fresh Tuna is a main that looks simple, but trust us when we say it delivered so much more. The balsamic vinegar added a nice acidic bite and the concentrated garlic skordalia made the dish more complex and tasty.

We know that Pool Grill takes pride in their grilled meats, but before we get to that, a dish that deserves a special mention is the Pan-Fried Cod Fish that comes with cauliflower tempura, confit garlic and Shiraz reduction.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

Cod fish is one of our favourites fishes because of its moist and flaky white center. And Pool Grill’s version tasted better than it looked! Its natural sweetness is complemented with light vegetables, and if you happen to prefer white meat or fish over red meats, then this is for you.

Another highlight of the meal was our Ribeye of 400-day grain-fed Australian Wagyu beef. What got us rejoicing was the fact that the steak came with a side of roasted bone marrow, which we all know it to be a flavour pot of umami goodness.

Jazz up your steak with a side of Thyme & Garlic Sautéed Mushrooms or Beer-Battered Potato Fritters with truffle salt. The latter looked completely ordinary, but this was one dish that totally surprised us with its rich aroma of truffle that was nothing short of invigorating. Its crisp-on-the-outside-and-mushy-on-the-inside texture also got us completely hooked.

White meat lovers are not forgotten here at Pool Grill. You can dig into this Roasted Baby Chicken Breast and Leg Confit , over some potato mash and mushrooms. Sometimes, all you need is such rustic comfort.

We hope you still have space in your tummies for desserts, because you will be missing out otherwise. The Banoffee (Toffee-Banana Dessert) hit all the right spots, and is one of the best renditions we’ve had in town. The crumbly crust, the sweet toffee and the bananas all came together beautifully. By the way, if you need a representative shot of your lunch for your Instagram feed, this shall be it.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

For something sweeter with the added acidity of berries, try the bombe Alaska, served freshly flambéed table side-style. The charred outer layer gave the Alaska a nice crisp, and we liked the finishing touches of edible flower petals on the plate.

Drinks are always important, and it is a bonus if they are served prettily. These two signature cocktails are clear winners – Smoking Cactus and Fiery Mango Cooler.

The former is a tequila-based cocktail that is coupled with refreshing fruit juices and a foaming egg white mixture. Cleanse your palate in between sips with a little bite of grapefruit and salt.

The latter was perfect because it was a lot more like a tropical fruit cooler than an alcoholic drink. The vodka-based cocktail is pimped up a notch with refreshing basil leaves and a special chilli syrup – well, the spice from the chilli sets in only shortly after. We liked it that way.

This Dragon Boat Festival, have a taste of Wan Hao Chinese Restaurant’s delicious rice dumplings made from premium ingredients. Helmed by Wan Hao’s Dim Sum head chef, Loh Kah Poh, the culinary maestros at Wan Hao handmakes each and every rice dumpling to ensure that all the rice dumplings are of high standard.

The highlights at Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel this year include the Black Truffle with Pork Belly & Dried Scallops Rice Dumpling, Spicy Sambal Rice Dumpling, Wan Hao’s Signature Pork & Salted Egg Dumpling and Vegetarian 5-Grain Rice Dumpling.

Opt for the classics if you’re a fan of Cantonese-style dumplings with Wan Hao’s Signature Pork & Salted Egg Rice Dumpling (S$12). Nothing can go wrong with the restaurant’s all-time favourite rice dumpling that includes pork belly marinated with a secret blend of spices and sauces, salted egg yolk, mushrooms, black beans and chestnut.

This year’s new face is the Black Truffle with Pork Belly & Dried Scallops Rice Dumpling (S$18), a gem packed tightly with luxurious ingredients. Quality glutinous rice houses tender braised pork belly and deluxe Japanese scallops, every bite is a burst of flavourful goodness.

If you’re willing to take up the challenge, try the Spicy Sambal Rice Dumpling (S$10). Packed with intense spices and ingredients, the dumpling is also filled with onion, garlic, home-made dried shrimp sauce and luscious pork belly.

Tucked away at the Legian strip is a simple and unpretentious resort in Bali that has just opened its doors last October; compact yet spacious within, with a pool that is tiled with blue gradients and near rooms overlooking either the pool or the garden.

One of the reasons why we love the hotel is because it is very versatile. In the day, the Stones is a beach resort where families, couples and friends hang out to have a great time At night, it transforms into a party animal with dim and romantic lighting, accompanied by sexy lounge music.

The Stones Hotel has 3 restaurants housed in a big space differentiated by dividers. The Long Rice Table serves rijsttel — the Dutch-Indonesian tradition of sharing side dishes.

We had breakfast everyday in The Stones Kitchen, the hotel’s all-day dining restaurant. Besides a sumptuous breakfast buffet, it also dishes out a selection of western dishes throughout the day. We also enjoyed a seafood feast at Big Fish Bar & Grill, a casual poolside grill which serves a variety of fresh fish, seafood and grilled meat.

The hotel has different daily promotions for guests. On Monday, you can indulge in the Black Angus beef night at Big Fish Bar & Grill. On Tuesday, try the signature Indonesian Rijsstafel at a special rate. Local market seafood barbeque is available on Wednesday, while you can treat yourself to a complimentary dessert on Thursday. From Friday to Sunday, party at the pool bar and enjoy free flow of sangria for 2 hours at 400k.

The Stones is a hotel that combines a super convenient location (3 minutes away from the Kuta beach, and 10 minutes walk from Beachwalk), chic and modern design with a sexy vibe, good F&B establishments to provide a complete experience. It is the perfect place for travellers to retreat after surfing at the beach, or after a night of partying.

For most people, it seems almost like an annual ritual during the Singapore Mooncake Festival to visit the Takashimaya Mooncake Fair as you can find all the mooncakes by the different restaurants and hotels there. Be it buying mooncakes, or just hanging around to try the various new mooncakes flavor for 2010, the response to the Takashimaya Mooncake fair is always overwhelming.

But if you hate to squeeze with the crowd just for a box of mooncake, go to Raffles City level 3 – there’s a smaller Mooncake fair with 22 participating retailers.

I know this post is kind of late since most newspapers, magazines and food blogs have written on some of the must-try new mooncakes flavors for 2010. Nonetheless, I decided to share a list of the interesting mooncakes flavors that I want to try during the Mooncake Festival 2010. So lets find out which are the best Mooncakes in Singapore 2010.

Goodwood Park Hotel Mooncakes

Goodwood Park Hotel has a strong reputation for its durian pastries and desserts, with the durian puff and cake among the most popular items on it’s menu. Naturally, one of the signature mooncake of Goodwood Park Hotel is the D24 Durian Paste Snowskin Mooncakes ($50 for 4 pcs). Their mooncakes are definitely a must-try if you like durian, but please stay 10 feet from me after you have them.

Marriott Hotel Mooncakes

I’m not sure about you, but I prefer the traditional baked mooncakes to the snowskin mooncakes. The white lotus seed paste with single yolk ($49 for 4 pcs) from Marriott Hotel may sounds boring, but I think it is exactly what I need for the Mooncake Festival 2010. How many yolks do you like in your baked mooncakes?

320 Orchard Rd

Raffles Hotel Mooncakes

52 bucks for a box of 8 ridiculously tiny snowskin mooncakes? I must be mad to pay for this. Tell me again: why am I doing this? Oh, it’s champagne truffle! Right. Everybody knows about the famous Champagne truffle mooncakes from Raffles Hotel. Enough said.

Paradise Group Mooncakes

Being a fan of the Chinese cuisine at Taste Paradise, I must say I’m quite curious how their mooncakes fare against the more experienced hotels and restaurants. Some of the creations from Paradise Group include: Golden Pomelo, Fragrant Black Sesame, Sweet Custard with Cashew Nuts, and at just $38 for a box of 8, their mooncakes are priced slightly lower than the ones from the hotels.

The Regent Singapore Mooncakes

Consumers are a very fickle-minded bunch, and we want novelty.

Every year, the chefs from the different hotels and restaurants will think of new creations to satisfy the consumers’ growing demand for different flavors. For the Mooncake festival 2010, The Regent Singapore came up with Baked Ham & Pork Floss with assorted nuts and the Ginger Paste with Pine Nuts snowskin mooncakes. Personally, I feel that it’s really an acquired taste, but by all means go ahead if you are game enough to try the exotic mooncakes.

Which are the best mooncakes in Singapore 2010? Let us know which mooncakes have you tried, and which are the ones that you are tempted to get! Have a good Mooncake Festival 2010 indulging in all the different mooncakes!
