Opened by the same team behind Glyph Supply Co, Dough Coffee is a new Korean-inspired bakery & coffee shop at CHIJMES. It is quite easily one of the nicest cafes in Singapore right now, and long queues can be seen daily.

We paid Dough Coffee a visit and it made us miss Seoul a little more than ever.

Dough Coffee makes their own bread, pastries and pasta in-house.

Other than the bread and pastries, it has a small and concise selection of All-Day Breakfast, Pasta and Mains including Breakfast Platter (S$28), Spicy Kimchi & Tomato Pasta (S$22), and Wagyu Burger (S$26).

Matcha Mochi (S$5) is a popular option and it is baked using premium ingredients including ceremonial-grade matcha, milk mochi, azuki, Japanese flour and AOP butter. Sadly, it sounds a lot better than it tasted.

The Kouign Amann (S$5), on the other hand, was totally worth the price tag. The buttery pastry that is lavishly sprinkled with powdered sugar was beautifully layered on the inside.

We can’t do without our Iced White (S$$6), especially when the weather has been so merciless. The espresso shot was nutty and had a nice bitter aftertaste to it, and we would definitely pick up another cup if we were in the vicinity.

ALCHEMIST

Nestled in former Khong Guan Biscuit Factory is Alchemist. Decked in a minimalistic interior with marble furniture and blue countertops, they house a roastery and dining area for you to chill with your cup of joe! You can snack on their baked goods too.

Here at Alchemist, each cuppa is carefully and lovingly prepared. They are definitely one of the better coffee shops out there, with their cosy ambience being a plus point. If you are looking for a great pick-me-up, this is the place to visit!

AMBER EMBER

A 10-minute walk from Serangoon MRT, this cosy cafe is relatively new but have already made a name for themselves, not just for their quirky food options and delicious coffee but also their wonderfully decorated exterior and interior. Opened by the same team behind Atlas Coffeehouse and the now-defunct Assembly Coffee is Lunar Coffee Brewers. Situated in Downtown Gallery, the cafe seeks to provide a space where you can escape from the pressures of everyday life with comfort food and speciality coffee.

Previously known as Dancing Goat Specialty Coffee, this coffee shop is not exactly new but it has since been rebranded as Narrative Coffee Stand. Located on the ground floor of Bras Basah Complex, the coffee shop sports a Kinfolk-esque interior with some bar seats and communal seating. OMOTESANDO KOFFEE

Their methodology at Omotesando Koffee lies in two things: their signature cube-framed bar which houses their baristas as well as their precise approach to brewing coffee. Beans from Melbourne are roasted in Kyoto by the Ogawa Coffee Roasters, with each blend following specific steps for brewing to bring out the best flavours.

Their Iced Cappucino is also their most Instagrammed drink, the top being like big puffy bubbles dusted with cocoa powder. Definitely picture-perfect!

Started by the same team behind Luke’s Oyster Bar & Chop House, Blue Label Pizza & Wine offers diners a modern take on the neighbourhood pizzeria with their concise menu of premium salads, snacks and acclaimed stone-fired pizzas.

With just two outlets in Singapore, Blue Label strives to serve quality food which can be tasted in their authentic stone-fired pizzas that are made using long-ferment dough.

Noteworthy pizzas to try are the J-Dog (S$35), The Original Famous (S$28) and the Blue Label Special, which features market ingredients (market price) that are inventively made into a unique Blue Label pizza. Despite the seemingly small selection of offerings available, the minimalist cafe offers a smooth cup of Hot White (S$5.30) that may taste slightly acidic but holds no lingering bitter aftertaste. Another notable drink is the Iced Matcha Latte (S$7), which uses hand-whisk ceremonial grade matcha powder for that grassy yet floral tasting notes.
