Located at 23 Hamilton Road near Jalan Besar and Lavender, La Levain is a new bakery cafe by pastry chef, Wythe Ng who used to work at Keong Saik Bakery & Bakery Brera.

The Lavender neighbourhood is home to many wonderful cafes and some of the recent openings include Habitat Coffee, Pacto by Parchmen and Glacier.

Habitat Coffee has moved from Upper Thomson Road to a new location at King’s George Avenue in the Lavender neighbourhood. It has soft launched on 3 August 2021 and you can get your coffee and brunch fix from their new home.

The cafe has been around at the previous location at Upper Thomson Road for the past 10 years, and despite the tough competition in the cafe scene, it shines and remains a favourite for many. Habitat Coffee is worth visiting because it serves good coffee and well-cooked dishes at reasonable prices.

Habitat Coffee’s owner, Ryan Pang, is also one of the owners behind Equate Coffee—a minimalist coffee shop in Tanjong Pagar that focuses on coffee and pastries.

Regulars to Habitat Coffee will be happy to know that the cafe has retained its signature dishes on the menu.

They will also be introducing a new food menu within the next two weeks, so it’s definitely something to look forward to when dine-in resumes.

Lucid is a new addition to the cafes in Lavender that serves artisanal coffee and pastries in a comforting and cosy setting. If you’re on the hunt for a quiet place to work or a place for good conversations, Lucid will fit the bill perfectly.

Its quiet ambience and clean aesthetic completely won us over. Kickstart your day at this cafe which offers a quick caffeine fix for coffee junkies or sweet treats for dessert addicts. Good vibes guaranteed.

This minimalistic cafe with mainly grey cement tones had a modern industrial design that was aesthetically pleasing with beautiful natural lighting that entered the space. You’d definitely be able to capture some good pictures for the gram!

We do not need to travel to JB just for Hiap Joo Bakery anymore because Lucid’s Banana Bread (S$3.50) won our hearts with its dense and immense banana flavours. It had the right amount of sweetness along with slight notes of savouriness from the butter. Undoubtedly one of the best banana breads we’ve had so far.

They have other in-house bakes like brownies and cakes that are made fresh daily at the open-concept kitchen situated in the cafe as well.

Served in a cute glass, the Iced White (S$6) comes with two shots of espresso, cold milk and ice. An antidote for sunny days indeed, the coffee had a nutty aroma with a bitter profile, hitting the right spot when in search of a good cuppa.

This mellow cup of coffee made a good pair with the Banana Bread available amongst their bakes.

On a rainy day or not, a cup of hot Chocolate (S$5) will warm your soul and soothe your heart. Aromatic flavours of the semi-sweet cocoa layered our tongues concomitantly with the velvety and creamy consistency, we did not want to put the cup down. This is a perfect drink for those who are in search of caffeine-free options.

Though they offer a small menu, we will definitely be back to Lucid for their up to snuff drinks and pastries!

Hasten your footsteps and visit this cafe pronto because they are operating with a tipping-only system for their soft launch until 31 January 2020.

Situated in Vanguard Campus, the newest addition to the café enclave in Kallang is Banchong Café. Contrary to its mod decor which screams hipster café food, Banchong Café serves up local fare and the classic Singaporean breakfast of kopi and toast.

Going for an al fresco concept, the café was incredibly aesthetically-pleasing—white cages for walls, with plants adorning them, high ceilings and minimalist decor—definitely instagrammable according to our books.

With such aesthetics, you wouldn’t expect it to have a name like Banchong Café. But the origins of the name can be found on the stone plague, bearing Banchong Industries on the wall right at the entrance. The previous occupants of the building, Banchong Industries was a corrugated cardboard box manufacturer. And as a tribute to them, the café has named themselves after them.

The menu was simple and featured toasts, bowls and drinks, which were all at wallet-friendly prices. The café also prides themselves on locally-sourced ingredients and their kaya is made fresh in-house daily; none of that artificial colouring or preservatives.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="width: 336px; height: 280px;"></ins>//

First up was the French Loaf Kaya & Butter Set (S$4.50) which came with 2 soft-boiled eggs and a coffee or tea. Colloquially known as jiam tao loti or pointed bread, this type of bread is not usually offered when we order kaya toast.

Slightly toasted with a chewy core, the French loaf had a unique fragrance that went extremely well with the homemade kaya and huge slice of butter. Definitely a must-try when you’re here!

We also ordered the quintessential Kaya Toast (S$2.20). The perfectly toasted traditional bread was crisp and slathered with their homemade kaya and a thick wedge butter.

The homemade kaya from Banchong Café was an absolute delight. Light, fluffy and fragrant, it’s probably why the kaya toast here stands out from the crowd despite its simplicity.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="width: 336px; height: 280px;"></ins>//

Last up was the Laksa Set (S$6.50) which includes a coffee or tea. We thoroughly enjoyed the rich and thick laksa broth made from coconut milk and dried shrimps which was surprisingly spicy. It came in a sizeable portion and saw a generous serving of ingredients such as fresh prawns, fish cake, shredded chicken breast, hard-boiled egg and tau pok.

Our freshly brewed and pulled kopi was reminiscent of the traditional ones you’d get in coffee shops without the acidity. It was nutty and not overly sweet too. A good balance of tea and milk, we could tell quality tea leaves were used for the teh.

Catering mostly to the office crowd in the area, Banchong Café is a great place for local fare in a spruced up environment. And we love that they have taken it upon themselves in keeping traditions alive!

There is something so incredibly satisfying about a place that is minimalistically furnished, so you could imagine our excitement when we discovered Apartment Coffee at 161 Lavender Street in Singapore.

Apartment Coffee is a minimalist’s dream, with a beautiful, clean interior that is decorated with Scandinavian-style furniture.

This little cafe specialises in homebrewed coffees that are made on the spot right in front of you, and it is a great place if you just want to retreat from the rest of the world and have a bit of alone time with a cuppa.

The inspiration behind Apartment Coffee came from the owner’s desire to create an inviting space where people could feel at home as well as to connect with other people who appreciate and love coffee.

The first thing you notice when you step into Apartment Coffee is how blindingly white and clean the whole place is. From the ceiling to the walls and the floors, everything is just white. The shop is also cleanly furnished with simple wood pieces and a long white counter.

The staff here were incredibly friendly and welcomed us with large smiles and cheery greetings. Definitely made the environment a more pleasant one.

Their menu is a simple one, yet they have quite a range of interesting drinks for you to enjoy.

For their coffee, they use a Synesso Hand Built Espresso Machine. They also use the very best seasonal coffee beans that vary throughout the year.

We tried their Columbia El Mirador (S$4.50) made into a Latte, which was a fragrant, smooth cup of goodness that had notes of roasted grapes, currant and graham crackers.

We also decided to get a cup of their Madagascar Mava (S$7.50), which was an interesting take on your usual hot chocolate. This smooth blend had notes of orange, malt and roasted nuts, and it left a unique, tangy aftertaste in our mouths.

We are absolutely in love with this simple yet gorgeous cafe and we will definitely be coming back here for some great coffee and the amazing ambience.

Do a quick Google search on chocolates and you will probably find Wimbly Lu either on that list or topping it. Known for their array of chocolate desserts, ice cream and waffles, Wimbly Lu first started off in a quaint neighbourhood of Jalan Riang and now has 2 other outlets in the heartlands of Singapore.

Located just a few doors away from Chye Seng Huat Hardware Coffee, the outlet at Tyrwhitt Road is definitely more accessible as compared to the one at Jalan Riang and the café boasts a cosy decorum that has been remodelled from an old shophouse.

We headed down on a rainy Friday afternoon to seek refuge from the rain as well as to indulge in some sweet treats, to which we were not disappointed.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>//

Next came Clare’s Sticky Date Pudding (S$5++), which is essentially a moist sponge cake made with finely chopped dates drenched in a sweet toffee sauce and served warm.

A bite into the soft sponge cake filled with toffee sauce makes you feel as if there is a marriage of flavours happening in your mouth–the sweet toffee sauce complemented the fluffy sponge cake without being too overly decadent.
