If there’s anything that Singaporeans love, it has got to be spicy food.

Although there’s plenty of options to choose from when you need a quick fiery fix—be it the famous Korean Samyang Spicy noodles or Ri Ri Hong’s mala bowls—there’s nothing quite like America’s classic buffalo wings. For the uninitiated, this dish has absolutely nothing to do with buffalos, but rather it’s the classic favourite fried chicken wings (from Buffalo, New York) drenched in hot sauce served alongside blue cheese dip and celery sticks.

If that sounds like a challenge for you, here’s our list of the best places to get buffalo wings in Singapore so hot you’d want to likely suffer from PTSD. Don’t be so quick to dismiss those sticks of celery. Trust us, you’ll need it.

HANDLEBAR

The road-loving free-wheeling spirit of riders runs through the veins of this biker-themed restaurant. The food takes its cue from the bikers, with a little refinement in presentation and screams badass in all its rawest form.

Their addictive Cocaine Wings will have you perspiring regardless of spice level you choose, so why not try their Sudden Death Wings while you’re at it too?

10 Lock Road

HOOTERS

There’s more to Hooters than just pairs of waitresses with decent assets, believe it or not. They have a dedicated menu just for their buffalo wings for you to choose from, though it’s probably worth keeping in mind that their recipe is tailored to suit the palates of Westerners, meaning their wings are more tangy than spicy.

Still, though, it makes for a gentler introduction to buffalo wings.

Ask anyone about Singapore’s best buffalo wings and they’ll direct you to Jerry’s Barbeque And Grill. They offer different levels of spice to cater to everyone, though if you’re feeling up to the challenge, their Level 6 Jerry’s Insanity would bring even a grown man to tears—it’s only fair that we warn you.

One bite is all it tastes for everyone to hiss in pain, before taking another bite because it’s just that addictive. Aptly named Cocaine Wings – Level: Death, it’ll make your life flash before your eyes.

OVEREASY

Priding themselves on glorious comfort food, Overeasy resembles your typical Hollywood American diner with their huge greasy burgers and thick glorious milkshakes. Of course, they serve tongue-burning Spicy Buffalo Wings, and though it’s off menu, you can most definitely order a Level 10.

If you dare, that is. And why stop there? Grab some friends and order their Spicy Wing Roulette, there’s bound to be lots of laughter found in that.

PONG SINGAPORE

On nights where you’re knocking back one too many beers, it will probably be a good idea to offset all the excess alcohol with something with a little heat. Which is why more often than not, bars would typically have some form of spicy wings.

Over at PONG Singapore, you absolutely have to order a plate of their Devil’s Wings (S$12 nett). Every wing boasts a fiery kick with a stickily sweet and savoury flavour.

ROYZ ET VOUZ

This is, perhaps, the best place to bring any particularly confident friend to. Watch as they demolish the first wing and claim that it’s no big deal, only to start hissing and huffing in pain as they reach the third one with tears in their eyes.

Royz Et Vouz’s Buffalo Wings would definitely bring down even the toughest of all competitors.

SOUTHWEST TAVERN

Located right smack in the middle of Clementi and Jurong East is Southwest Tavern, serving up the deadliest Suicide Wings. Unlike most other places, they leave no room for you to hide by offering only one single spice level made with the deadly Jolokia Pepper, also known as Ghost Pepper, so we do recommend preparing not just your tongue but your stomach too.

8 Boon Lay Way

SPRUCE

While most head to Spruce for a good Sunday afternoon brunch, it’s hard to leave without giving their Devil Wings a try. Their special chilli sauce would be a challenge even for the hardiest of spice daredevils, though if you’d like something less likely to destroy your toilet, their Hot Wings are a good option to have too.

260 Upper Bukit Timah Road
#01-01
Singapore 588190
Nearest Station: Beauty World

WINGSBAR

As you’d expect from their name, Wingsbar serves all things wings, with their chicken wing menu alone offering 10 different flavours. Since you’re looking at this list, the one you’d want to have is definitely their Spitfire flavour, which would make you (metaphorically) spit fire.

If you have a bigger company, The Flying Tiger offers a similar sweating experience too, just less intensive.

3D River Valley Road #01-02

WINGSTOP

As America’s number 1 chicken wing restaurant chain, it would a shame for it not to be on this list. Their Atomic Wings are generously coated in Habanero pepper sauce, and while it might not be the spiciest this list has to offer, don’t underestimate the damage it can do to your taste buds and your pride.

It would seem logical to conclude that chicken, or more specifically, fried chicken, is one of the best forms of comfort food around. Practically every culture has their own version of it—from the Koreans, the Americans and even Singaporeans.

Unless for health reasons (or dietary restrictions), it’s practically impossible to find anyone who dislikes fried chicken. The golden crust, the sheer succulence enclosed within its crusty exterior and the sensation you get the second your teeth sink into and through the crunchy layer to expose all that piping-hot chicken deliciousness—is frankly all it takes to transport us to gastronomic heaven.

The very thought of fried chicken on an empty stomach, or even on a cold, rainy day is enough to arouse our appetites, but enough of that, here are 22 best places to get fried chicken in Singapore.

4FINGERS

Singapore’s answer to fast-food-style Korean fried chicken and quite possibly the reason why and how the trend started in the first place, 4Fingers is a popular chain where all you can live out all your fried chicken fantasies.

Crispy, sweet and downright addictive, their soy-garlic chicken is one fried chicken item that will have you licking bone to fingers to savour every morsel of flavour.

Ban Leong Wah Hoe Seafood is packed with hungry diners daily despite the lack of visibility from the main streets. Its slight inaccessibility is clearly not a deterrent as foodies would travel all the way to Casuarina to satisfy their fresh seafood cravings.

Besides their famous chilli crabs and black pepper crabs, the place is also renowned for their mouthwatering har cheong gai or prawn paste chicken; crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, this is one dish that you’ll see at almost every table.

The Chicken Burger is something of a treat that even the most discerning of palates can agree with. This humble stall debuted in the heartlands of Ang Mo Kio and eventually found its way among the big boys in town.

The deep-fried har cheong gai was bursting with robust and fragrant flavours such that every bite into the crispy wings was a delight. Upon biting into the chicken wing, the crackling skin broke apart to reveal succulent and tender meat. Dipping it into the chili at the side gave the dish another dimension of flavours. As sinful it may be, the wings were worth every calorie.

Decked out in Melbourne cafe-style decor, this unassuming and seeming pretentious eatery in Ann Siang Hill serves up excellent nasi lemak. The food here is by no means affordable, especially since a plate goes at S$12.80, but what you do get, however, is a slightly healthier version of the iconic dish.

The Coconut Club’s MSG-free Nasi Lemak entails a generous portion of fragrant coconut rice, cucumber slices, peanuts, dried anchovies, a fried egg, sambal sauce and the most important item of all—succulent chicken leg.

Situated amidst the hustle and bustle of Upper Thomson Road is a brand new addition to Singapore’s cafe scene—Columbus Coffee Co.

Managed by the same people behind Atlas Coffeehouse and Lunar Coffee Brewers, Columbus Coffee Co. is a stylish new brunch concept that delivers a straightforward menu with exceptional yet not overly-pretentious dishes and a curated selection of coffee brews. Coffee aficionados may be interested to know that the coffee beans are roasted by Two Degrees North Coffee Co.

Served by a team of energetic young baristas and waitstaff, enjoy the warm and friendly hospitality at Columbus Coffee Co which officially starts its operations today.

Taking over the now-defunct Wolfpack, Columbus Coffee Co. is designed with functionality in mind—making use of industrial decor, wooden furniture and greenery to create a comfortable and inviting environment that does not compromise on style.

The Cheese Burger and Curlies (S$19++)—one of the two burger options available on the menu—impressed us with the combination of textures and flavours that left us yearning for more after we were done.

What you will find sandwiched between two butter brioche buns is a juicy herbed beef patty, fried sherry onions, creamy slaw and the most addictive topping of all—sharp cheddar that melts in your mouth. The hearty dish comes with crispy curly fries as an accompaniment.

Their All-Day Brunch features a list of comforting mains and one that we would highly recommend is the Columbus Buttermilk Fried Chicken (S$14.50+), which is essentially buttermilk marinated chicken wings that are deep-fried to a perfect shade of golden brown.

We sank our teeth into what was possibly one of the juiciest buttermilk chicken wings we have tried in a long time. Diners can also opt for Hot Sauce (S$1) and beer (Half Pint – S$5, Full Pint – S$8.50) to fully complete the ultimate fried chicken experience.

As for desserts, Columbus Coffee Co. carries a range of Buttermilk Waffles in five different flavours. We decided to go for the Earl Grey Caramel Waffle (S$12.50++) which features a freshly made waffle, chopped strawberries, a scoop of earl grey-flavoured ice cream and generous caramel sauce drizzled over top.

Our recommendation is to tuck into the waffles immediately once it it served as it may turn slightly soggy once the ice cream melts over it.

Other options on their menu include Pastas such as Aglio Olio (S$16++), Mushroom Bacon Carbonara (S$19++) and light munchies with the likes of Shoe String Fries (S$8+) and Chili Beef Nachos (S$12++).

Choose your own espresso blend—Atlas or Nautica—and have it prepared in various ways such as a Long Black (Reg – S$4.50++, Large – S$5++), Cappuccino (Reg – S$5++, Large – S$5.50++), Latte (Reg – S$5++, Large – S$5.50++) and more.

As mentioned earlier, Columbus Coffee Co. gets their coffee beans from Two Degrees North Coffee Co., a renowned roaster that sources their single origin beans from coffee capitals of the world, Ethiopia, Colombia and Kenya.

PLAN YOUR TRIPS WHILE EATING

And you think you are going to sit down for hours to plan your trips without some perk-me-ups? That is not going to happen at HyfeCafe.

The travel cafe gives off the same cosy vibe you would typically derive from a cafe but make no mistake that their food speaks of a quality that goes far beyond your usual cafe fare. There is a menu with affordable restaurant fare from a fusion-focused array of offerings from hearty sides, mains, and decadent desserts worthy of the ‘gram’.

On the drinks menu, there is wide range of coffees, juices and tea by the pot at affordable prices. And we must say that coffee is pretty decent here! Pair your drinks with their wide range of Asian-fusion dishes. Cafe-hoppers will be glad to know that their menu is pretty reasonably priced.

TROPICAL FROGURT

You definitely have to try this house special. HyfeCafe created this concoction using their housemade yogurt. Flavoured with mango and passionfruit, this pretty much tastes like a Korean-style Calpis and it is the perfect summer drink!

WINGS OF THE EAST

These chicken wings—Wings Of The East (S$6.90)—absolutely stole our hearts. They were so flavourful that we just couldn’t stop at one! Choose from 3 different Asian-inspired sauces and spice—such as teriyaki soy, salted egg yolk sauce and curry honey.

SHARING PLATTERS

Can’t decide what appetisers to start with? The Sharing Platter (S$13.50 for 2, S$21.50 for 4) has a little of everything—from deep-fried calamari and popcorn chicken to tomato bruschetta and chicken sausages.

TERIYAKI SALMON UDON

Their Teriyaki Salmon Udon (S$14.90) is a crowd favourite. Accompanying the slightly sweet and chewy stir-fried udon is a huge slab of salmon that is cooked to perfection and generously doused in teriyaki sauce.

SALTED EGG FISH & CHIPS

Complementing the classic Fish & Chips is Singapore’s favourite golden salted egg yolk sauce. Nobody says no to this Salted Egg Fish & Chips (S$13.90) which goes well with their flavoursome salted egg yolk sauce and tangy mayonnaise served at the side.

SEAFOOD SQUID INK BAKED RICE

This is not your typical baked rice. The Seafood Squid Ink Baked Rice (S$10.90) sees a bed of fresh prawns, squid and mussels sitting atop squid ink rice. Baked with mozzarella, this value-for-money dish is a flavourful one that you must try.

GOLDEN WAFFLES

And of course, no trip to a cafe is ever completed without desserts! HyfeCafe pairs their Golden Waffles (S$8.90) with a scoop of ice cream and we absolutely loved it.

Their waffles are super crispy on the outside which complements the fluffy interior, and together with their rich ice cream and fresh berries, this dessert will leave you satisfied and wanting to come back for more.

With HyfeCafe, both your trip planning and your travel journey will be an unforgettable experience. We all know that it takes a while to plan your dream trip, so do not worry if you can’t finish it all up in one sitting! There is an option for you save your itinerary, and send a PDF of it to your email.

For those who are unable to find their ideal destinations or attraction places, HyfeCafe is constantly updating and adding new countries, cities and attractions to make your itinerary-planning experience better.

We reckon that we aren’t the only ones who find this travel-lifestyle concept cafe alluring, so why not head down to Tampines 1 today?

Ruyi, which means ‘as one wishes’ in Chinese, is the first fast-food Chinese restaurant to be introduced in Singapore by TungLok Group. At any time of any day, this humble fast food restaurant—located at Resorts World Sentosa—is the best place to go for good value, quick and delectable Chinese meals.

This 24-hour, quick-service concept is a draw for diners in search of convenient, good-quality Chinese meals at affordable prices. Presenting a choice of more than 30 items, diners can choose from a range of rice, noodles, dim sum, and desserts—all of which come served piping hot and delicious every time. Whether you are craving spicy laksa or crispy chicken wings, Ruyi has what it takes to curb those late night cravings.

A crowd favourite and one dish that you absolutely must try is their assorted beef noodle soup options. Just a heads up—their mala soup is divine and you will be hooked.

Never would it cross our minds to find affordable eats in a place like Resorts World Sentosa, let alone in Sentosa itself; here’s what you are missing out on if you haven’t been to Ruyi.

BEEF NOODLES EXTRAORDINAIRE

You will find no shortage of noodle dishes as far as Chinese cuisine is concerned, but one particular dish that is sure to rock your socks off is their Beef Noodle Soup (S$13). Brimming with unbelievable flavour along with generous portions of tender-beyond-belief beef, this comforting bowl is the perfect thing to have at any time of the day.

You can choose between two soup bases—original and spicy mala. The original version boasts a strong and savoury beef aroma while the rich and robust mala beef soup which is simmered for 14 hours; packs a fiery punch.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

Raspberry ripple flavoured ice cream atop a toasty and crunchy waffle. Perfect for a hot day—or any day for that matter.

The two-piece fried chicken (S$8.50) was beyond amazing. Marinated and deep-fried to perfection, the chicken was super crispy on the outside but moist and succulent on the inside. An added bonus is that it was not the slightest bit oily.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

The sides that came along with it were decent but nothing much to shout about.

We also got the Super Value Meal (S$6.80) which consisted of a deep-fried boneless chicken thigh, white rice and a fried egg with a runny yolk. For what it’s worth, we think that it is a pretty good deal considering the large portion size.

The chicken was deep fried to perfection and the egg was cooked just right. However, we wish the rice could have been more aromatic and flavourful to better complement the other two components.

Waffletown was truly a breath of fresh air. A cosy eatery devoid of the hustle and bustle and pretentious aesthetics, serving comfort food at reasonable prices. We will definitely be back.

If there is one thing we can never get enough of, it is a good ol’ piece of crispy and flavourful deep-fried chicken.

A global fast-food restaurant best known for its juicy and tasty fried chicken and signature Honey Butter Biscuit, Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen has created an innovative new chicken recipe with a classic Singaporean twist that we absolutely adore: The Singapore Street Wings.

From 11 April to 29 May 2017, Popeyes will be serving the limited edition Singapore Street Wings which marries the flavour of Louisiana and Singapore in one.

On 07 May 2017, Popeyes will be having their annual Popeyes Day promotion that is too good to miss. For just S$5.90, you get 5 regular sized pieces of their famous chicken. What a steal! Here is what you need to know about Popeyes’ latest additions and special promotions.

Popeyes’ flagship outlet is located at Tebing Lane in Punggol and it is Popeyes’ only standalone shop in Singapore. However, there is a total of 14 Popeyes outlets islandwide so you are guaranteed to find one near you.

Did you know that all of Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen’s chicken wings are marinated for at least 12 hours? The chicken wings are also hand battered, breaded and sprinkled with a special Louisiana blend of five-spice seasoning before being deep-fried to perfection.

Peel apart the hot and crispy chicken skin to reveal juicy, tender and well-seasoned meat. We also appreciate that only drumsticks or wings are used, which made it much easier to devour the tasty meat.

LIMITED EDITION SINGAPORE STREET WINGS

The Singapore Street Wings was born from the adventures of two Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen’s chefs traversing the streets of Singapore for a taste of local flavours. As such, certain familiar flavours would instinctively be brought to mind when you are digging into the Singapore Street Wings, especially with the Spicy Chilli Garlic Dip.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

The limited edition Singapore Street Wings Combo Deal (S$7.50) consists of 4 pieces of wings, 1 Spicy Chilli Garlic dip, 1 regular mashed potatoes with Cajun gravy, 1 Honey Butter Biscuit and one exclusive bottle of Tropicana Fruit Sparkling Drink.

The wings have a mixture of spices that reminds us of a spicier and more fragrant version of their original chicken. The dip on the side stole the show. An excellent companion to the chicken wings, the Spicy Chilli Garlic Dip was reminiscent of the chilli sauce that is typically served on the side of Singapore’s chicken rice.

Popeyes mashed potatoes are marvellous as they come with rich and tasty Cajun gravy. The signature Honey Butter Biscuit is what you cannot pass up on, too. The biscuit is so buttery and the honey glaze on the top adds a subtle sweetness to every bite.

CRAZY 5 FOR S$5.90 CHICKEN SPECIAL

Every year, Popeyes will offer a special a one-day-only Popeyes Day promotion of S$5.90 for 5 pieces of chicken. This fantastic offer is happening this year on 7th of May and of course you should not miss out on it!

A dining experience at Orchid Live Seafood is akin to teleporting yourselves back into time. While the old-school seafood restaurant is not located in the most convenient locations, its inaccessibility has not deterred its loyal customers from patronising it.

Award-winning Orchid Live Seafood has received many public figures over the years and that list includes Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

Orchid Live Seafood’s superbly fresh dishes are seriously worth travelling for, and can we say just how much we love the kampong-style experience?! The restaurant is also home to a huge collection of South African craft beers.

From now until 31 December 2016, quote ‘ladyironchef’ to enjoy 40% off craft beers with any purchase of items on the menu (valid only on weekdays). Meanwhile, here’s what you can expect from Orchird Live Seafood—also the creator of the famous Lobster Porridge.

THE BEST LOBSTER PORRIDGE IN SINGAPORE

Nobody leaves Orchid Live Seafood without ordering the signature Lobster Porridge (S$10 per 100g). While lobster porridge can be found in many other Chinese restaurants, Orchid Live Seafood is actually the original creator. In fact, the Lobster Porridge has been served to customers since 1999. This iconic main course is indeed the epitome of indulgence.

A 600g, 800g, 1kg, 1.5kg and 2kg portion will feed two, three, four six and eight pax respectively. The freshness of these lobsters is guaranteed as they catch your lobsters right after you place your order. These crustaceans are cut into halves, and the plump and juicy lobster meat attributes to the Teochew porridge’s sweetness and aromatic broth.

BOSTON LOBSTER

The massive Boston Lobster (S$70) took us by surprise and we devoured every single bit of it. The succulent flesh is best eaten with the accompanying sauce—a complex blend of butter, cheese, milk and spices. We were almost licking the plate clean!

You can save S$10 and order this chunky lobster for just S$60 as an add-on to any set menus.

TEOCHEW COLD CRAB

The Teochew-style Cold Crab is a crab dish that is almost forgotten, but one that our parents and Teochew descendants will definitely relish.

The Teochew Cold Crab is prized for its roe, and just look at the generous amount of roe on Orchid Live Seafood’s Teochew Cold Crab (S$52)! These briny crabs taste naturally sweet on its own.

STEAMED MINCED PORK WITH SALTED EGG

Orchid Live Seafood is introducing pork in its menu for the very first time and we are totally digging their rendition of the fragrant Steamed Minced Pork (S$18). The meat patty is served with a bright orangey salted egg yolk and drenched in superior sauce.

It’s one of those ‘comfort food’ options, and the kids will love it!

STEVEN CHICKEN

The Steven Chicken (8 pieces – S$12, 12 pieces – S$18, 16 pieces – S$24) blew our minds; it is no surprise this signature has been keeping regulars back for more for many decades.

Marinated in a sweet sauce (inhouse secret!) and deep-fried to perfection; this bestselling dish ain’t no ordinary chicken wings. We dare say it’s even better than Korean fried chicken! Take a closer look and you will notice that the flesh has been scraped from one wing end to the other for easy consumption.

TOP-SHELL WITH FRIED TOFU

Orchid Live Seafood’s chef-recommended Top-shell With Crispy Tofu (S$12) instantly reminded us of a Thai salad. This semi-spicy dish features tofu with sliced cucumber, onions and sesame seeds; the mixture is then drizzled with a hot sauce.

SPINACH WITH THREE EGGS

This plate of Spinach With Three Types Of Eggs (small – S$12, medium – S$15) is a Chinese classic that nailed all the right spots.

The sweet hearty clear chicken broth and fresh greens are served in a pot set atop a fire so your dish stays warm throughout your meal.

SWEET POTATO BALLS WITH YAM PASTE

These Sweet Potato Balls with Yam Paste (S$20 per set) might look unassuming, but it sure left an everlasting impression. Who would have thought these bite-size balls could be so addictive?!

These warm mini balls are delightfully soft inside—with the first layer being sweet potato mash, and the inner layer yam paste. Each golden-brown orb is dusted with icing sugar.

A HUGE SELECTION OF SOUTH AFRICAN CRAFT BEERS

Interestingly, Orchid Live Seafood is home to a huge collection of South African craft beers. You can purchase these imported bottles from S$8 for a Eversons Cloudy Apple Cider to S$14 for a Citizen Beer Pacifist Winter Porter.

Quote ‘ladyironchef’ to enjoy 40% off craft beers with any purchase of items on the menu (valid only on weekdays and until 31 Dec 2016).

Orchid Live Seafood has also opened its reservations for Chinese New Year dinners. Set menus are available; premium seafood and honest cooking are befitting of that annual reunion dinner. Prices start from S$268 nett for 4 pax, to S$468 nett for 6 pax and S$488 nett for 8 pax.

Located in the heart of Kovan—just a stone’s throw away from Kovan MRT Station—is Ice Edge Cafe.

The cafe-cum-restaurant has been around for a decade and has gained a huge following over the past years with its hearty savouries and stellar sweets. Dishes served here are very affordable and generously portioned; there is even a perpetual one-for-one lunch promotion* on weekdays!

You might have heard of their legendary Mao Shan Wang Lava Cake, Waffles and Homemade Brownies, but Ice Edge Cafe is more than that. It offers a menu of wallet-friendly dishes (most mains are priced under S$20). If you haven’t been, you are missing out, dude.

From now until 15 December 2016, quote “ladyironchef” to get a FREE Waffle with a scoop of gelato when you spend S$20 per table. This offer is valid during dinner daily.

#1 BUFFALO WINGS

Ice Edge Cafe’s Buffalo Wings (S$9.80+) come in a platter of six.

Each deep-fried chicken wing is coated in a hot peppery buffalo sauce that is infused with vinegar and butter, and garnished with herbs and spices. If you can’t handle spices well, steer clear of this.

The Buffalo Wings are part of Ice Edge Cafe’s 1-for-1 menu.

If calories matter, then the Japanese Bonito Prawn Salad (S$12.80++) is for you. This is a salad of assorted leafy greens, Japanese seasoning, fresh prawns and crispy wakame. Pretty simple, but no less fresh and healthy.

The Japanese Bonito Prawn Salad is part of Ice Edge Cafe’s 1-for-1 menu.

#4 SEAFOOD AGLIO OLIO SPAGHETTI

The Seafood Aglio Olio Spaghetti (S$16.80+) is an Ice Edge classic. Served with clams, juicy prawns and squid, the pasta is served al dente and tossed with chilli padi and garlic. It comes in a very generous portion too!

The Seafood Aglio Olio Spgahetti is part of Ice Edge Cafe’s 1-for-1 menu. Each pasta works out to be just S$8.4+ during lunch!

#5 TOM YAM SEAFOOD LINGUINE

Tom Yam Seafood Linguine (S$17.80+) is an interesting East-meets-West pasta invention which has successfully incorporated the traditional Thai soup into an Italian classic. The pasta is cooked firm to the bite and enhanced with the garlic’s aroma. It is then complemented with clam, squid and prawn.

And it is very spicy. But that is precisely how we like it to be. Definitely our favourite pasta in the entire menu!

#6 BUTTER CREAM SALMON

Over at Ice Edge Cafe, salmon fillets are cooked to perfection—think crispy skin and runny flesh. The fish flakes easily when pierced through with a fork, and topped with a slap of buttery herbs cream and pink peppercorn. The Butter Cream Salmon (S$19.80+) is also served with grilled asparagus and a house salad.

It honestly looks like nothing, but it is the kind of comfort lunch you’d wish for on a boring workday.

#7 PESTO CREAM CHICKEN

The chef-recommended main course Pesto Cream Chicken (S$17.80+) looked pretty messy but this plate packs a punch. It comprises a juicy chicken thigh pan-fried till golden brown, then topped with fresh pesto, and accompanied with carrots, cream, herbs, potatoes and spices.

The Pesto Cream Chicken is part of Ice Edge Cafe’s 1-for-1 menu. S$8.90 for a main course? Lunch doesn’t get any better than this.

#8 CORDON BLEU

By now, you would have noticed that the menu is comprehensive; from American, Italian to Swiss, you can expect a myriad of cuisines.

Ice Edge Cafe’s take on the Cordon Bleu (S$18.80+) is a beautiful one. Slice into the deep-fried breaded chicken and you will see the intersection of bacon and bursting nacho cheese. This is actually our favourite main, for it was satisfaction in every bite.

#9 PIZZA PRAWN MENTAIKO

The Pizza Prawn Mentaiko (S$16.80+) is a work of art and damn, ain’t it photogenic?! The pizza comes with a thin crust. Herbs, prawns and mozzarella cheese are scattered all over the flat dough, before Japanese mayonnaise and mentaiko cream are drizzled in circular motions.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

The fresh cut fries are crispy on the outside with soft interiors, and goes well with the generous portions of chicken cubes and twirling cheese curds doused in brown gravy. There is a good balance between the main ingredients which made it a hit among those at the table.

ROTISSERIE CHICKEN & SIDES

Chicken is a staple in Asian cuisines. And precisely because this is our ultimate comfort food, we had very high expectations for their Roast Chicken. So how did it fare?

Most rotisserie chickens tend to be a little on the dry side but this is definitely not the case at Chick Can.

Each chicken is lightly seasoned to keep the original taste of the meat. It is then slow-roasted in a rotisserie oven specially imported from Canada to achieve the perfect result—juicy meat and crispy skin.

There are three options: Quarter Leg Meal (S$16.50), Quarter Breast Meal (S$18.50) and Half Chicken Meal (S$22+).

We shared the Half Chicken Meal and it came with a toasted bun, a side dish of your choice, coleslaw and dipping sauce. You get to choose between salads, Rice Pilaf and French Fries for sides. It is indeed a huge portion that can easily feed two to three people.

The half chicken is roasted to lip-smacking perfection with its crispy reddish brown skin that envelops succulent, tender chicken meat. We could really hear the skin crack as we dug into it with knives! Try it with the traditional brown dipping sauce. We loved the Asian dipping sauce which is similar to the Thai sweet chilli sauce.

CHICKEN PIE WITH COLESLAW

The Chicken Pie with Coleslaw (S$12) reminds us of home. It was simple, hearty and we loved the flaky crust combined with the massive chunks of chicken and vegetables inside. It also comes with a side of coleslaw to complete your meal.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>//

BAKED RICE/PASTA, SANDWICHES AND WRAPS

Roasted chicken aside, Chick Can Rotisserie also offers two baked dishes—Chicken Baked Rice (S$15) and the Chicken Baked Pasta (S$15). Also, you can expect dishes such as Club Sandwich with Chicken (S$15), BBQ Chicken Wrap (S$15) and Spicy Chicken Wrap (S$15).

SUGAR PIE

All of us agreed that the Sugar Pie (S$6.50+) at Chick Can Rotisserie is a wonderful option for those with a sweet tooth. It is unabashedly sweet and comes accompanied with smooth whipped cream. The classic French-Canadian pie is served warm from the oven to our table and was demolished within minutes.

I love KFC! I’m referring to Korean Fried Chicken, not Kentucy Fried Chicken (even though I will find it hard to say no to that too).

Kko Kko Nara Korean Restaurant on Tras Street (Tanjong Pagar) is a mom-and-pop chicken place that has been around for a while. They are famous for their Korean Fried Chicken, and the best part is they operate till late night 4am. For those of you who are always on the lookout for new supper place in Singapore — how about some Korean Fried Chicken and soju?

The Korean Fried Chicken craze actually took over New York City back in early 2007, but in Singapore, the term “Korean Fried Chicken” has not generated as much interest as KOI or Gong Cha Bubble tea.

Who cares if nobody knows about Korean Fried Chicken? I’m glad that there are a couple Korean Restaurants in Singapore serving them, and the best thing is: there’s no need to queue up.

After settling down, I was delighted to hear Koreans chatting in their native language. It’s always a good sign to see that the Korean Restaurant has the stamp of approval from their own people.

We started with the pickled daikon, a very good appetiser to wake the palate. Like Togi Korean Restaurant, Kko Kko Nara only serves 6 side dishes: kimchi, potato, black lotus root, and beansprout. My favourite place for Korean food in Singapore: Kim’s Family Restaurant is still the best, with 10 side dishes and a whole fish!

The Stone Pot Bibimbap ($10) came first. What’s there not to like about it? Add in the hot chilli sauce, and mix everything together in the hot stone pot — this is a must-order Korean food whenever I eat at Korean Restaurants. FYI: Kko Kko Nara only serves Bibimbap for lunch, it’s not available during dinner. I’ll touch on this in a while.

My friend wanted to try the Spicy Korean Ramen ($7), the stock was average, nothing to shout about. It’s also available for lunch only.

And finally, Korean Fried Chicken (KFC)!

Kko Kko Nara’s Korean Fried Chicken comes in four different flavours: original, soy garlic sauce, sweet & spicy, and hot & spicy. Since it was our first time there, we decided to go for the Small Chicken Combo Set ($20) which comes with 3pc of original, sweet & garlic. For those who prefer to have just a particular flavour, the Korean Fried Chicken is $15 for half and $25 for whole during lunch time (different pricing for dinner).

What’s so special about Korean Fried Chicken?

From what I understand, the chicken pieces are lightly coated with flour and deep-fried twice till a gorgeous shade of golden brown with shattering crisp. I tried the original flavour first, it was like normal deep-fried chicken, only leaner and crispier without any fats. Seriously, I could eat a dozen of the chicken wings on my own.

I proceeded with the sweetish Soy Garlic sauce chicken wings which had more depth in flavour and taste. It was a right decision to leave Kko Kko Nara’s Sweet & Spicy KFC for the last, the spiciness only hit you after a while. I started to sweat, but I didn’t stop eating. They were awesome – Awesome with a capital A!

Is KFC the best fried chicken in Singapore? I don’t know about others, but I preferred Korean Fried Chicken to the ‘best chicken wings’ that I had at No. 5 Emerald Hill.

If you are keen to try out Kko Kko Nara korean restaurant for the Korean Fried Chicken, I’d advise you to go during lunch. The same chicken wings cost $5 more during dinner, and the ‘cheaper’ main dishes like Bibibamp, Bulgogi are not available at night. Unless you just want the fried chicken wings, the other main courses for dinner are in the $20-$40 range. I’m guessing that the premium is probably to cover their cost for opening till late night. But like what I have mentioned, Kko Kko Nara at Tras Street (Tanjong Pagar) is a great supper place for some drinks and Korean Fried Chicken.

I’m gonna try the Korean Fried Chicken from Woori Nara Korean Restaurant at Lorong Kilat next. KFC FTW!

While we were having brunch at Wild Honey, my friends casually mentioned that 4 Fingers Bonchon at Ion Orchard has the best chicken wings in Singapore. Since then, I have been thinking about their chicken wings all day long, and when my friend wanted to meet at Ion Orchard, I told her that we had to try the 4 Fingers Bonchon crispy chicken!

If I become fat one day, I will blame everything on “causal talks” like this. Coincidentally, my visit to No. 5 Emerald Hill for their chicken wings also started with an innocent chat on twitter.

We had the Bonchon crispy chicken, which consisted of wings and drummettes in either soy garlic or spicy flavors. The crispy skin was well marinated with soy garlic, but the meat was lacking in terms of depth – it just tasted ordinary. Despite that, it’s definitely easy to finish a dozen chicken wings on your own and the fries that came with the set meal were actually quite good.

4 Fingers Bonchon at Ion Orchard also has other items like chicken chop on the menu, and they also sell ‘party-packages’ for their famous chicken wings.

Have you tried the 4 fingers bonchon chicken wings before? I’m just curious, but where do you usually eat when you are in Ion Orchard?
