OMNIA Bali—the famous dayclub from Vegas under the Hakkasan Group—seems to be reopening as Savaya Bali.

For the uninitiated, OMNIA Bali is an all-day party destination in Uluwatu, Bali which is perched atop a cliff, 100 meters above the Indian Ocean.

It closed earlier this year just ahead of its second birthday after Bali’s tourism sector was affected by Covid-19.

Savaya Bali’s Facebook and Instagram account has been sharing snippets of the new concept which shows OMNIA’s iconic Cube.

Savaya Bali is reopening on 26 Dec 2020 and for those of you who are currently in Bali, it has announced its NYE party as well.

Warang Cahaya’s crispy pork rice with sambal matah is one of our all-time favourite things to eat in Bali.

This nondescript local eatery is as old school and local as you can get. It looks super unassuming but what do you know? It has one of Bali’s best local-style crispy pork rice!

This is one eatery we always return to over the years and we have never once been disappointed.

Warang Cahaya in Legian is a gem. There is nothing quite like enjoying a plate of unpretentious Indo-style crispy pork and chicken rice with kickass sambal matah, and that’s exactly what you would get here.

Inexpensive and every bit authentic, the crispy pork rice is really just a simple but very comforting serving of, well, crispy pork and rice and raw chilli. There is also a chicken option if you are not a fan of pork.

The menu is concise and straightforward. Just pick your choice of meat. And regardless of your choice, you’d have to enjoy it with the raw chilli that’s made in-house. That is the game changer. Indonesians are known for their sambal and here at Warang Cahaya, they use sambal matah as a condiment for all their rice options.

For the uninitiated, sambal matah is actually Indonesian raw spicy shallow salsa and mainly comprises onions, chilli and lime. It can be really spicy so if you can’t hold your chilli well, go easy.

The prices at Warang Cahaya are averagely RP40,000 per portion, and we advise you to go early lest be disappointed. They usually sell out on their pork shortly after lunch hours.

Talk about beach clubs and Bali is home to aplenty, but one that we really love is Ulu Cliffhouse. Situated at Uluwatu, Ulu Cilffhouse has a panoramic view of the sea and is one of the best spots in Uluwatu to catch the sunsets.

Sexy vibes, a great drinks menu, a comprehensive food menu, a retail store, and unbeatable vantage points; a trip to this beach club is definitely a must when in Bali.

With direct access to the beach, vantage points to catch the sunsets, an infinity pool, an open-air restaurant and a cliff-side ocean deck, Ulu Cliffhouse is a lifestyle destination that has gained immense popularity among Indonesians and visitors alike.

There are multiple deck chairs, cabanas and tables spread out all over the huge space, so whether you are visiting alone, as a couple or in a large group, you’re at the right place.

On its food menu, the dishes are prepared using mostly locally sourced ingredients so as to integrate its local cultural flavours. From small sharing plates to salads and pizzas, fill your tummies while you laze the afternoon away.

Need a drink? But of course. Lots of cocktails and wines options await, and non-alcoholic drinks include cold pressed juices and local kombucha.

Ulu Cliffhouse is also known for their events. Expect weekly Sunday brunches with free-flow drinks and live DJ-ing. Parties are also lined up every month.

Folie Kitchen & Patisserie has been gaining popularity and it is not hard to understand why. The gorgeous space sits in Canggu, Bali and it is the new it spot for dining and OOTDs.

Well, these days, these factors come hand in hand for travellers who cafe-hop on holidays, and the Bali restauranteurs are definitely upping their game to stay in trend.

Folie Kitchen & Patisserie is helmed by a French chef who has relocated to Bali and brought along with him his passion and flair for French culinary. You can expect nothing short of a good meal.

The restaurant is split into two parts—indoor seating and alfresco. Upon stepping in, what you won’t miss is its iconic wall painting that is really a myriad of patterns splashed across in striking hues. This wall is no stranger on Instagram now and a quick search would lead you to thousands of OOTDs taken against this Folie wall.

The indoor seating area is a cosy one, with small tables for couples and long ones for bigger groups. At the back of the restaurant is the outdoor alfresco area, and the pastel blue booth seats are set against a pretty pastel pink wall, making it the perfect setting for photos too!

On the food menu, expect mainly French fare such as fresh Nicoise Salad, Croque Monsieur, Pan-seared Foie Gras, Beef Stroganoff and a whole range of hearty pasta. They may not be the cheapest but the quality of the cooking cannot be denied; it is, if any, one of the best restaurants in Canggu.

The dessert selection is extensive too. We were spoilt for choices; it was like we were transported to France. Expect an array of French classics such as lemon meringue tart, eclairs in a range of flavours, madeleine, croissants, banoffee etc.

If dining on the table is too basic, well, you can now dine in the pool at Cabina Bali. We kid you not; brunch is served on a tray that floats on the in-house pool and you dine from the pool. Sounds cool already?

Cabina Bali is a tropical paradise with lots of palm trees, deck chairs, fairy lights, a bar and the coolest vibe. There is also a pool that sits in the middle of the space, and that is where the floating brunch happens.

The Floating Brunch Experience happens from 9am to 12pm, and it costs IDR180,000 per person and IDR350,000 for a pair. Reservations are highly recommended to avoid disappointment.

Every set comes with coffee/ tea, a glass of pressed juice served in a pineapple, a main and a dessert.  There are vegan and gluten-free options, too.

We have to say that the food wasn’t the most impressive. It was the novelty of the idea that attracted us (and the world). You do not even have to bring your own towels; Cabina Bali will provide you with fresh ones once you are done dining in the pool.

Its regular all-day menu is a comprehensive one that includes a huge selection of breakfast items, salads, sandwiches, tapas, and pasta.

Coffee is good here, and you’d be happy to know that Cabina Bali works with ST. ALi Melbourne to serve specialty coffee. The daily Happy Hour happens from 5pm to 8pm, where you enjoy 1-for-1 cocktails.

Seminyak is every cafe-hopper’s dream, and it just got better with the addition of KYND Community in the Jalan Petitinget area.

Of smoothie bowls, cold-pressed juices, salads and coffee, KYND Community is an Australian-owned cafe that has something for you all day long and needs to be on your itinerary.

With a distinct pink and green interior and a now iconic OOTD wall that has dominated social media feeds, KYND Community prides themselves as a plant-based cafe that aims to showcase just how wonderful plants can taste. Gone are the days when vegetarian food is just boring vegetables; vegans don’t have to lead a sad life when there are more options for plant-based food.

KYND Community encourages healthy eating without compromising on taste, and we love how they say “by living a plant-based lifestyle, you are not only making a positive impact on the planet but you age slower, have way more energy and look even better naked!”

Very true.

So, what is on their menu?  We see lots of smoothie bowls on every table so that is evidently what is most popular. Indeed, their smoothies bowls didn’t disappoint. They weren’t the best we’ve tried in Seminyak but they made us feel good nonetheless. There are only two kinds—Berry Tropical and Green & Grind, both at RP73,000. We went for the former and it tasted predominantly like dragonfruit, with nuances of sweetness from the bananas and strawberries. Topped off with granola, gluten-free option is also available upon request.

There is also a wide range of beverages—from your regular latte and mocha in both hot and iced versions, plant-based milk, milkshakes, smoothies to chai lattes. The juice menu is even more impressive. A whole list of house creations awaits, and there are what they call “elixirs”—essentially shots that boost your immunity.

And if you want something more substantial to fill your tummies, KYND Community will have you covered with their range of toasts, salads, waffles and brunch fare.

There is no lack of pretty cafes in Bali but one newbie in Seminyak deserves a special mention—Coffee Cartel.

This cafe has been getting so much attention on Instagram and it is not difficult to understand why. The cafe is MADE for Instagram with its numerous photo opportunities—from OOTD corners, a huge mural to the prettiest food and drinks.

We paid a visit to this LA-inspired cafe and here’s what we loved about Coffee Cartel, Bali.

We have to, however, admit that upon stepping into the indoor dining area, we were pretty underwhelmed. The main dining area on the first level of the cafe is pretty dull; minimal efforts were taken to “beautify” the place.

The saving grace of the first level is the outdoor seats, complete with patterned floor tiles and marble tables. That’s where most of the food shots you see on Instagram were taken.

There is also a little outdoor area at the back of the cafe where a fake dining table is set up. Well, you can really sit there if you wish to but the cacti in the background are huge—if it doesn’t bother you.

On the second level of Coffee Cartel is a quaint, home-like space with couch seats and an outdoor “balcony”.

The menu is definitely one to love. Much thoughts have been put into curating a wholesome, (relatively) healthy Aussie-style selection. You can expect a whole range of fresh juices and smoothie bowls, coffee and flavoured lattes, salads and brunch mains, as well as interesting Indonesia-influenced dishes.

You have to go for the smoothie bowl. We tried the Pink Smoothie Bowl (IDR 65,000) and it was fresh and refreshing. And very photogenic; that’s what we all care about too, right?

There is also the Zucchini & Corn Fritters that is a very typical Australian-style brunch dish and Coffee Cartel did it well. Generous pieces of fritters were complemented with a side of mashed avocado and chilli salsa, all for IDR 60,000.

The Mie Goreng Crumbed Chicken Burger (IDR 75,000) may sound weird at first, but it deserves a mention too. As the name suggests, the chicken patty comes with a Mie Goreng Crumb and it is accompanied by tomato, smashed avo and sambal mayo.

And forget regular coffee, you all. Go for the Pink Beetroot Latte (IDR 35,000) or the Turmeric Latte (IDR 35,000). Sure, besides making your social media feeds pretty, these naturally-flavoured lattes are actually very light yet tasty!

No effort has been spared in sourcing for their own green Arabica coffee beans from the local farms in Bali and the baristas make it a point to roast their own coffee beans too. Do not be shy to spend on their specialty coffee and baked items such as Carrot Cake and Banana Bread.

Give this homey cafe a chance the next time you are looking for a place to chill and have a hearty breakfast in Seminyak.

The Koop Roaster & Cafe is a place that will instantly remind you of home. With wooden furniture in both pale and dark wood and fluffy pillows to make your stay more comfortable, it is an ideal location for those who wish to do some work in peace.

Travelers to Bali are spoilt for choice when it comes to the best restaurants and bars in Seminyak. One of the hottest hangout spots in Bali right now is Char Char Bar & Grill, situated near to our favourite Italian restaurant, Ultimo.

Walk up to Char Char Bar & Grill and the first thing you will notice is a flight of steps where guests can chill and have a drink with some finger food. This is the best place to people watch and see all the action going down at Jalan Kayu Aya, a bustling street with tourists and locals. 

Those who are there for a drink and light bites may prefer to sit on the tiered steps. The dim lighting and tight seating arrangement encourages heart-to-heart conversations with your companion.

However, we would recommend the rooftop al fresco area for diners who are there for a proper meal. The impressive Mongolian Grill serves up a range of meat (duck/ chicken/ beef/ lamb/ pork) and seafood (fish/ prawn/ crabstick) grilled on a hot plate before it is served to your table.

Pick what you fancy from the Mongolian Grill menu featuring Trio Pepper Beef (RP95,000/ S$9.50), Duck Noodle (RP75,000/ S$7.50) and Chicken Sunny Side Up (RP75,000/ S$7.50).

Fans of seafood can opt for the Fresh Seafood Omelette (RP95,000/ S$9.50). Alternatively, you can also build your own platter for RP85,000/ S$8.50—you get four varieties of meat, five types of vegetables and a sauce of your choice.

On top of that, there is also a salad bar surrounding the grill station.

Looking for something more? Char Char Bar & Grill offers mains from their House Speciality menu too. The Spicy Barramundi (RP180,000/ S$18) is a pan roasted barramundi fillet paired with sambal and drizzled over with rich clam butter sauce.

Another item we tried was their Australian Striploin (RP225,000/ S$22.50) in medium rare doneness. While we love the juicy beef steak which came with homemade caramelised red wine onion sauce, it was nothing fantastic.

At the side, you will find creamy mashed potato, steamed baby carrot and broccoli.

Other mains to try at Char Char Bar & Grill would be the Bacon King Prawn (RP190,000/ S$19), Black Forest Pork Rack (RP175,000/ S$17.50) and Char Roasted Beef (RP220,000/ S$22).

Kim Soo is a lifestyle and retail space in Seminyak, Bali.

What attracts the great throngs of visitors to Kim Soo is the remarkable range of homewares sourced across the Indonesian Archipelago and works of art that are manufactured by the brand itself.

The place will draw you in inexplicably and keep you lingering for hours as you explore the corners of the charming shop and rest your weary feet at their in-house cafe. If you are up for anything bohemian and contemporary, Kim Soo is one place to note down for your next Bali itinerary.

Visitors are welcomed by a treasure trove of homewares and interior decorations the moment they step into Kim Soo. It is a homemaker’s heaven—you can find everything from wooden carvings, ceramics, chopping boards and kitchenware to cushions and rugs.

Wander around the shop and you will find plenty of OOTD-worthy spots against the monochrome backdrop, Grecian patterned tiles, and marble tables. In fact, the place looks almost like a villa, complete with a turquoise splash pool at the back of the retail space.

When you are ready for a drink and some light bites, head to Cafe Kim Soo which is just beside the retail section. Food selection is kept simple and you can expect to see French Toast, Pumpkin and Garlic Quiches and a range of cakes as part of the menu.

Out of the few Kim Soo Handmade Cakes, we chose the Lemon Pound Cake (RP39,000/ S$3.90). The cake was light and had just the right amount of moisture without it being too dry. We could taste the zesty lemon flavours infused in the pound cake as well.

If you are looking for more options besides the Lemon Pound Cake, why not try their Choc Coconut Slice (RP20,000/ S$2), Carrot Cake (RP35,000/ S$3.50) or their signature Kim Soo Chocolate Cake (RP39,000/ S$3.90)?

Complement your food with their aromatic house brews such as the Cappucino (RP29,000/ S$2.90), Long Black (RP29,000/ S#2.90) and Iced Latte (RP29,000/ S$2.90).

The Slow is a gorgeous boutique hotel in Canggu, Bali and nestled on the first level of the hotel is Eat & Drink, a contemporary cafe by day and restaurant by night. Expect to see an interesting combination of culture influences from Europe, South America and Asia when you are dining there.

Swing by in the day for savoury cafe fare or drop in at night to feast on wood-grilled meats and seafood while having a cocktail or two with your companions. 

Featuring a minimalistic interior with clean lines, long wooden communal tables, and potted plants, Eat & Drink at The Slow is a spacious dining area where you can spread open the morning papers and have a cuppa or do some work.

The venue provides a calm oasis of greenery, blonde wood and friendly service from the staff. We love the muted tones which make great backdrops for your OOTD pictures!

No one should skip on the Blue Ribbon Burger (RP130,000/ S$13) which came with melt-in-your-mouth Angus beef, rich cheddar, tomato relish, and pickles. This is one of the best burgers we had during our trip to Bali!

For the health conscious, there is also the option of Green Tea Noodles (RP75,000/ S$7.50). Apart from soba, you get a generous portion of seaweed, cucumbers, tuna, edamame and ponzu. And yes, healthy food can taste amazing too!

Other choices you have in the day include Crab Sandwich (RP80,000/ S$8), Pide (RP100,000/ S$10) and Tiger Prawn (RP80,000/ S$8).

Milk & Madu is a popular local Berawa family cafe in Canggu, Bali visited by many visitors for their hearty breakfast, well-cooked lunch and signature revolver coffees. For those of you who are familiar with Bali’s cafe scene, Milk & Madu is owned by the same team behind Watercress Cafe in Seminyak.

We are glad to share that the cafe did not disappoint with the overall dining experience. On top of that, diners can also get nutritious grub from Nalu Bowls—Bali’s first smoothie bowl shack—which is famous for their colourful smoothie bowls.

Boasting long wooden communal tables both al fresco and indoors, guests are able to interact freely with other diners and travelers over good coffee and brunch. If not, you can also choose to sit at smaller tables though we find that a slight squeeze.

The Madu (RP80,000/ S$8) is your typical brunch fare with organic poached eggs, smashed avocado, crispy bacon, onion jam and creamy hollandaise sauce. Squeeze a few drops of lemon juice over for a tangy taste.

Next up, we had the Marinated Chicken (RP80,000/ S$8). It is a tortilla wrap filled with avocado, sundried tomato, pesto, grated cheddar, baby rocket and radish. We love how the gooey cheese flow out when we pulled the wrap apart.

We chose Mavericks (RP85,000/ S$8.50) among the various choices they have on the menu. It is a Nalu Bowls Original recipe consisting of their secret acai blend with granola, banana, strawberries, coconut flakes and honey.

Something to share among the group is their Shoestring Fries (RP40,000/ S$4) which is accompanied with flavourful garlic aioli for the extra oomph. We love munching on the crispy fries and wash it all down with cold beer.

Other food items on their menu include Steak Sandwich (RP90,000/ S$9), Babi Guling Style Pork Belly (RP120,000/ S$12) and Prawn Tacos (RP100,000/ S$10).

Panama Kitchen & Pool (@SunOfPanama) is easily the nicest cafe in Canggu, Bali. It is every bit photogenic and it is frequented by both locals and tourists.

Like a scene set in Mykonos, the tropical atmosphere is one so charming. It is a beach club and cafe all in one, and the menu is nothing too exorbitant.

The next time you find yourselves in Bali, make a trip to Canggu and have a meal at Panama Kitchen & Pool. You will not regret it. Here is what to expect.

Be welcomed by the outdoor bar at the foot of Panama Kitchen & Pool. Grab a drink, have a sip of your cocktail then head into the gorgeous space. Get your cameras ready.

You will be transported to Mykonos right away. With a predominant blue and white decor, Panama Kitchen & Pool is a photo spot at every corner. Swirl and twirl in your maxi dress, change into your bikini and plunge into the pool, or read a book on one of the many deck chairs. That is what the idyllic life at Panama Kitchen & Pool is all about.

There is a minimum spend (approximately RP70,000) per person but don’t worry too much about that because there is surely something on the menu for you. Drink options are aplenty and if you are not after anything alcoholic, go for the milkshakes or juices.

On the food menu, there is the Eggs Ben that is a classic favourite and comes with a beautiful, runny egg yolk for that mandatory #eggporn shot. Otherwise, there is also the Pulled Pork Sandwich that we loved.

Panama Kitchen & Pool redefines a cafe experience in Bali and it is one hangout we will definitely visit again and again.

Quince is a beautiful lifestyle cafe in Canggu, Bali that is major #interiorgoals.

Offering mostly organic food made from both local and imported ingredients, one can expect to see Asian and Mediterranean cuisines on the menu. Look forward to a range of nutritious vegetarian delights that will keep you coming back for more.

What keeps people coming back though, is the warm hospitality and homey vibes at Quince. The owners Armen and Michelle are known to enjoy mingling around with guests and you are likely to see them taking orders as well.

The cafe is split into two sections for dining— the terrace where you can people watch during fine weather and a spacious indoor sitting area boasting clean, functional aesthetic.

When at Quince, there is one item you must try and that is their Avocado Toast (RP70,000/ S$7).

You get a generous portion of herb and garlic smashed avocado on multigrain toast with boiled eggs. It is lastly topped off with black and white sesame seeds, sumac with feta cheese and a handful of watercress.

Super healthy, yet it does not compromise on taste!

Quinoa Porridge (RP75,000/ S$7.50) is a vegan dish with vibrant colours that will look great on your Instagram feed. Expect three colours quinoa, coconut porridge with cinnamon, shredded coconut, chia seeds and banana.

Alternatively, there are also options including Bruschetta (RP70,000/ S$7), Breakfast Bagel (RP75,000/ S$7.50) and Polenta Pancakes (RP75,000/ S$7.50).

Motel Mexicola is easily the sexiest restaurant-bar you can find in Seminyak, Bali.

With its flashy and colourful interior decorations, Motel Mexicola is unabashedly loud and funky; it would be a crime to not stop by the popular Mexican joint for some drinks and OOTDs.

Siddle up to the bar for an ice-cold Bintang beer and other refreshing cocktails. If you are feeling hungry, their food menu consists of traditional Mexican food with a modern twist and diners can expect both finger food and main dishes such as quesadilla and tacos.

Motel Mexicola is a dream spot for photographers and fashionistas who are searching for the perfect backdrop for their OOTDs.

No matter where you turn to, every spot in Motel Mexicola is extremely photogenic. And more than that, take time to appreciate the colour coordination and mismatched furniture; they are works of art.

Moving onto the food, we had De Chorizo (RP80,000/ S$8) which is a quesadilla stuffed with homemade chorizo (pork sausage) and melted cheese. All quesadilla dishes at Motel Mexico are served with black beans and pico de gallo (salsa).

Looking for some finger food to complement your drinks? Motel Mexicola has a range of tacos with different flavours to choose from. We picked Camarón and Al Pastor (RP30,000/ S$3), which came with tempura prawn and chargrilled marinated pork respectively. The former was really good, with crispy prawn and tangy salsa fillings.

If you are there for some sweet treats, you have to try their Churros (RP50,000/ S$5). The Mexican doughnuts are crispy and we liked that they are not overly dry. Dip them into caramel or chocolate sauce!

Hailing from Sydney, Mrs Sippy is the hottest pool club, restaurant and bar in Seminyak, Bali right now.

Step into Mrs Sippy Bali and you would feel as though you are on another island. Known for its fantastic saltwater pools and dive tower, the modern pool club features a man-made beach, tall palm trees and comfortable day beds. Treat yourself to a tipple at the bar and satisfy your tummy with grub from their open-air kitchen.

Oh, and did we mention that the party never stops there?

With resident international DJ’s playing on a weekly basis and exciting events filling up their calendar, there is no reason why this is not one of the coolest place to be seen at. If you are feeling confident, head for their 5m diving platform and get your friend to take a Boomerang video of your dive!

Drinks such as the classic margarita, martini and wine are best enjoyed at the open bar, located beside the pools. Guests can get an alcoholic beverage for (RP120,000/ S$12), which we find rather decent for the ambiance you are getting.

Obviously, you should not miss out on lounging on these huge inflatable pool floats too. There are various designs available with the magical unicorn being the crowd favourite. These make for incredible pictures which will level up your Instagram game!

If pool floats are not your thing, why not rest on these day beds instead? Sip onto champagne or nibble on finger food while you chill the day or night away.

Those who are looking for something more substantial can try their Fish & Chips (RP110,000/ S$11). We enjoyed the crispy beer-battered skin and juicy fish meat which taste better with tartare mayo and a few drops of lemon.

Another item you may want to consider is Chicken Burger (RP100,000/ S$10). Ours came in a beautiful presentation with grilled chicken, guacamole, red cabbage, lettuce, tomato and spiced up with spicy mayo.

It is no secret that Bali is home to some of the best cafes and restaurants. While we enjoyed visiting all the cafes that we have been to on our trip to Seminyak, one place that won all our hearts in an instant is NOOK, a gorgeous local eatery overlooking breathtaking views of the paddy fields.

What we love about NOOK is that the cafe is tucked away from the bustling Seminyak area, but still within walking distance to the main street. Escape from the crowd and enjoy some traditional Indonesian delights that do not lose out to those you will find in warungs.

NOOK is busiest during the day, as visitors are able to take in beautiful views of the paddy fields and even pose for some pictures with the green pastures as their backdrops. Head over in the evening to catch a magnificent sunset during good weather.

NOOK’s Nasi Goreng Ayam (RP45,000/ S$4.50) was decent, but it paled in comparison to the signature Nasi Campur.

Nasi Campur Special (RP49,000/ S$4.90) is our favourite dish at NOOK—in fact, it is the one of the best Nasi Campur we have tried in Bali. Every side dish is so delicious and diners get a variety of mixed meat, vegetables, tempeh and egg given in bite-sized portions.

We would travel all the way to NOOK just to eat the Nasi Campur.

Another dish to try at NOOK is Ayam Betutu (RP55,000/ S$5.50). This is a traditional Balinese dish featuring steamed chicken cooked in bumbu betutu, a type of spice mix. It was full-flavoured and we enjoyed every morsel.
