10 SCOTTS Afternoon Tea at Grand Hyatt Singapore

10 SCOTTS

10 SCOTTS at Grand Hyatt Singapore is more than just a hotel’s tea lounge. Impeccably designed with a collection of rooms, it makes you feel right at home. Like being in your living room where you can host a group of close friends over drinks, the cosiness is unrivalled and one that replicates the warmth of home. Or, it can make a quiet meeting place to have coffee with your clients over some corporate talks. It also works as a lovely library where you can enjoy some me-time and retreat into your shell.

On days when you feel like taking a break and giving yourself a little treat, the afternoon tea at 10 SCOTTS at Grand Hyatt Singapore is just the thing you need. It comes in an elegant two-tier glass tray that is packed with lots of goodies. The items change periodically, but there will always be a staple selection of sandwiches, tarts and quiche, as well as all-time favourites like the delicious crab cakes with remoulade sauce that we are not ashamed to admit wolfing down several of it at a go. Other snacks include the freshly-made seafood popiah (spring roll), samosas, and scones served with homemade raspberry jam, clotted cream and kaya (coconut jam).

10 SCOTTS Afternoon Tea

There is a also a self-serve freezer that houses a varying selection of salads, cold dishes and homemade ice cream as well as a communal table with over six different freshly made desserts. The stars of the show include the anti-griddle fried egg – with vanilla ice cream forming the egg white and mango passion puree representing the yolk – and a beautiful flower pot dessert that is really a generous helping of salted caramel ice cream and chocolate soil, topped with chocolate brownies and delicate edible flowers.

In addition, the afternoon tea comes with a selection of hot dishes from the live station, cold cuts, artisan cheese and bread. And the best part of it all? Everything that you are served with at 10 SCOTTS’ afternoon tea is refillable. The only danger is you will end up eating more than you should. But sometimes, all of us deserve to indulge a little, so go ahead and spoil yourselves.

On weekdays, the afternoon tea at 10 SCOTTS is S$43++/pax with refillable tea, coffee and fruit juices; and S$73++/pax with free-flowing of Perrier-Jouët Champagne. On weekends and public holidays, the prices are S$53++/pax and S$83++/pax respectively.

Foodline: Your Go-To Portal For Finding the Best Buffet Catering in Singapore

Foodline

One of the questions that I get from readers frequently is to recommend caterers that offer good and reliable service at reasonable prices. The next time you are looking for a caterer to feed your guests, we have a recommendation.

Foodline (www.foodline.sg) is a Singapore based catering review website that partners with over 50 caterers. You can search for your ideal buffet catering by your budget, cuisine and requirement. Whether you are organising a mini buffet on a shoestring budget for a gathering, looking for a halal buffet caterer for your party, picking a high end caterer for your company’s corporate event, throwing a high tea for your baby’s first month, or choosing the right wedding caterers for your big day – Foodline will help you find the best buffet caterers in Singapore.

When your event is over, write a short review of the caterer’s service (with a photo) on Foodline to share with everyone your experience, and Foodline.sg will provide a cash reward (ranging from S$10 to S$30). Foodline.sg is also having a lucky draw where you can win S$500 worth of catering vouchers simply by joining their mailing list. URBAN Bakery Works’ Ball Law Cowssant is a Must-Eat in Hong Kong

URBAN Ball Law Cowwsant

Sexy. Artsy. Fuss-free. Comfort. URBAN Bakery Works presents itself as the it place in Hong Kong for all-day casual dining. Its concept shop at The Landmark is a stunner, and it promises nothing but a hip and fun experience. While there are many things that we love at URBAN Bakery Works, the highlight has got to be the Ball Law Cowssant. It totally blew us away. We will go so far as to say that it is a must-eat in Hong Kong.

A hybrid of croissant and po luo bao (pineapple bun) complete with a slab of French butter, the Ball Law Cowssant (Dare devil version) is nothing but sheer indulgence. If you love po luo bao, you will fall in love uncontrollably with URBAN Bakery Works’ divine creation!

Besides the Ball Law Cowssant, URBAN Bakery Works offers croissants (made with French A.O.C butter) in seven different flavours – like almond, Belgian chocolate, cheddar cheese, and brulee. The croissants that we’ve sampled are so well made that they are just as good, if not even better than the ones that we had in Paris.

What the fudge

That’s not all. The chic bakery cafe also serves excellent Vittoria coffee, a variety of salad and sandwiches which are perfect for a light and casual meal, as well as an array of decadent cakes and pastries. Our favourite is the What The Fudge – a luscious chocolate fudge cake that is enveloped with what seemed like a whole factory of kitkat and M&M’s. And this is what we call super photogenic and Instagram-worthy. Non-chocolate lovers might just be besotted, too!

We like that URBAN Bakery Works never rests on its laurels and is constantly coming up with new creations. Kiss My Butterfly is its latest invention. The classic Mille-feuille is given a modern twist by using caramelised palmiers layer with season fruits and custard fillings. Just the thought of it is enough to make us salivate. We cannot wait to try it the next time we are in Hong Kong!

TungLok XiHe Peking Duck Restaurant Singapore

TungLok XiHe

Where do you go to when you are beat from a whole day of shopping, laden with shopping bags and famished from all the walking? And you are just beat from the whole day of hubbub that you want nothing but familiar and hearty food to soothe the senses?

Well, if your craving is leaning towards Chinese food, then your answer is TungLok XiHe Peking Duck Restaurant, an outlet that offers a classic menu of modern Beijing cuisine. Conveniently located at Orchard Central and The Grandstand (Turf Club Road), the outlet is one that is clean and spacious, with a modern Chinese décor that is minimalistic and elegant.

Tunglok Xihe Peking Duck

There are many Chinese establishments that impressed us and left us good memories, but TungLok XiHe is one that is timeless. We love its concise menu and how it does not differ too much from its origins – nothing but the comforting familiarity of Chinese food at competitive prices. It is the kind of place that you can host your business associates, throw a celebration or to simply gather with your close ones.

When we had our meal, our tummies were so pleased with the quality meal that we were thinking about all the flowery adjectives and phrases to document the experience, but looking back now, we want nothing but to present TungLok XiHe Peking Duck as it is – unpretentious and classy. Here are our picks from the very good meal we had:

[ GIVEAWAY ] We are giving away 5 x TungLok XiHe Peking Duck vouchers (worth S$91.80 each). Leave a comment below, and share this post on your Facebook timeline to win. More details on the giveaway at the end of this post.

Seasonal Tastes’ Themed Night Buffet Dinners

Seasonal Tastes Dessert

Seasonal Tastes at The Westin Singapore has recently launched its themed night buffet dinners. Themed nights always mean more excitement and something special to look forward to, and with six different themes every night from Monday to Saturday, we just granted ourselves plenty more reasons to visit Seasonal Tastes again and again.

Mondays is Mama Mia Pasta Night. Go with a completely empty stomach, for you will be in for a treat – expect nothing short of a dream-like range of handmade pasta prepared with different sauces.

On Tuesdays, we pay homage to the Executive Chef’s roots with German Classics making a guest appearance. Crispy pork knuckles, farmer’s meatloaf, braised veal shank, bratwurst, kassler and sauerkraut… You get the idea. Go on and make your reservation!

We are big fans of Seasonal Tastes’ pastry chef, for she never fails with her divine creations, and the dessert buffet is always something that we look forward to the most. Wednesdays are ladies’ nights, with a dessert shrine – featuring sweets like profiteroles, mini cakes, cupcakes, macarons, and a berry pink chocolate fountain – that is specially set up with the ladies in mind. Go on, indulge in those sweets with your girls. We won’t tell.

Celebrate Thursdays with a Thai feast and enjoy favourite dishes like Thai green papaya salad, phad Thai with prawn and chicken, tom yum goong, and Chiang Rai-style steamed jumbo prawn.

Seafood buffet

Fridays are for T.G.I.F and for everyone to get together and catch up. What better way to welcome the weekend than to spend it with treasures of the sea? Seafood Nights at Seasonal Tastes come with the freshest selection of crustaceans like lobsters, crabs, prawns, mussels and freshly shucked oysters, and we trust you know that you should not miss this for the world.

Not forgetting the guys, Saturdays are your days to get your pals to pig out on carving and roasts. The chefs have prepared a fine selection of tender roasts – such as cold roast beef, crispy pork belly with cauliflower puree, slow-roasted beef prime ribs and BBQ beef short ribs – that will satisfy the carnivore in you.

Seasonal Tastes’ themed night buffet dinners at The Westin Singapore are priced at S$62++/pax for Monday to Thursday, and S$75++/pax on Friday. Diners enjoy complimentary per entry parking from 6pm onwards (Monday to Friday) and all-day (Saturday to Sunday).
