Scotch eggs are such best bundles of joy.

Essentially 6-minute hard-boiled eggs wrapped in minced meat before being breaded and deep fried, scotch eggs are easy to prepare, and make splendid breakfast options and picnic treats.

Nothing gratifies us more than slicing through the breaded pork, adorned with a crispy golden exterior, and witnessing the translucent yolk oozing out of the egg that is beautifully encased in the meat – that is when you know you have got yourself a good scotch egg. Scotch Eggs are often served alongside sauces such as mayonnaise, mustard or even a gorgeous salad.

Here is an easy Scotch Eggs Recipe that you can try out at home.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

INGREDIENTS NEEDED FOR COOKING SCOTCH EGGS

3 large eggs
350g minced meat, preferably pork
1 bowl of spring onions
2 teaspoon of salt
1 teaspoon of pepper
1 teaspoon of mustard powder (optional)
1 bowl of plain flour (for dusting)
1 bowl of beaten eggs, for the egg wash
1 bowl of breadcrumbs
Vegetable/Cooking oil

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

STEP-BY-STEP DIRECTIONS ON HOW TO PREPARE SCOTCH EGGS

1. Boil water in the saucepan. Add 3 eggs into the boiling water and cook them for around 6 minutes so that they will form a runny yolk center. After which, scoop up the eggs and plunge them into ice water.

2. Mix the minced meat, salt, pepper, mustard and spring onions together.

3. Gently crack and peel the cooled eggs.

4. Take a chunk of meat and flatten it on your palm until it resembles a patty. Encase the boiled egg in the middle of the meat and mould them together with your hands. Ensure that there are no gaps in the meat.

Tip: It is best to wet your fingertips with water to prevent the minced meat from sticking to your hands.

5. Dip the Scotch egg in flour, egg wash and coat it with breadcrumbs before deep frying.

6. Heat the oil till 350 degree Celsius. Lower the Scotch eggs in and deep-fry evenly for around 5 to 8 minutes.

7. Arrange them on a plate with a side salad or mustard sauce, and you are ready for some awesome snacking!

One of the perks of being on a holiday is experiencing the different cultures and trying local foods offered by the country/ city. And street food is something that always gets us all excited.

If you ever find yourself in Johor Bahru – a land where a truckload of delicious street food and shopping haven awaits - here are 10 Amazing Malaysian Street Food that you should try.

#1 APOM BALIK

Apom Balik is essentially sticky rice flour pancakes with peanut shavings and sweetened corn sandwiched in between. Relish the sweet, chewy and crispy combination that will leave you wanting more.

These goodies are typically RM1 for two.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

#3 PHOTOGRAPHS ARE HIGHLY ENCOURAGED

Or self-encouraged. We often get too excited when a pretty egg dish is served up to us, and we are not letting go of any chances to photograph our glorious flowy egg yolks.

Any egg lover will have tons of photos/ videos of what we deem as “egg porn”.

Here are 11 things you never knew about eggs, including some fun facts and its health benefits.

#4 WE KNOW OUR EGGS

Walk through the supermarket, and one will be greeted by trays of eggs in various colours, sizes and nutrient compositions. We understand our eggs, and are acquainted with facts about them – whether it is the differences between white or brown eggs laid by different breeds of hens, or the health benefits associated with consuming them.

Fun fact though: Eating 5 quail eggs is equivalent to 1 hen’s egg!

#5 ALWAYS EXPERIMENTING WITH COOKING THEM

Since we are such major fans of these wondrous shells of goodness, it piques our interests in knowing how they are prepared in various ways. We are even more tempted in getting down to preparing them in the consistency we want.

It is every egg lover’s pride to present you a plate of perfectly executed sunny side up, or know Gordon Ramsey’s secret recipe to a beautiful plate of scrambled eggs (Video is on YouTube, by the way).

Heck, we would even get the half-boiled eggs perfect, else we are not eating them!

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

#6 YOU STOCK THEM UP AT HOME

It is almost illegal to have a refrigerator without eggs, and egg lovers will never let this happen. What is a kitchen without eggs?!

And, it is the security that lies within knowing that we are well-stocked with eggs at home, and that our source of comfort is always available when we need to whip up a meal.

#7 YOU’VE TRIED THEM RAW

It is true that egg yolks are high in cholesterol, but only the good kinds that are beneficial for your heart and your brain. Most egg enthusiasts would know, as they would have tried consuming this even without cooking, and there are tons of ways to eat them raw.

Break them into a bowl of porridge for breakfast, or use it as a dip for your meat when having steamboat. For those who have not heard of the latter, you are totally missing out.

Egg lovers must read our guide on the 10 most photogenic egg dishes in Singapore.

Speculoos Cookie Butter, or Cookie Butter in short, has been famed for its nutty and creamy flavour worldwide. This spread is essentially made with baked cookies, before crushing and mixing them with oil until they become a mouth-watering spread – akin to the texture and colour of peanut butter, but even better. We love cookie butter for its addictive taste and would eat it straight from the jar if it was not so fattening.

Speculoos Cookie Butter spread has been leaving its mark across desserts as one of the ultimate ingredient that can never go wrong – macarons, cakes, waffles, ice cream – you name it, they would probably have dominated it all already.

Join the party as we uncover 7 Speculoos Cookie Butter Desserts For The Cookie Butter Fanatics.

If that is not enough to impress, the cupcake is also topped off with a velvety buttercream and a little piece of Lotus cookie for an elevated texture. If you are a big fan of Speculoos Cookie Butter, you have to try this.

Strawberry Jelly Hearts Cheesecake is not just another stunning dessert; if you do not have a clue, it actually tastes as good as they look, if not better. When the decadent cheesecake filled with fresh strawberries marries the distinctive crust base, and is topped off with a soft jello layering, it transforms into a medley of contrasting textures that will send you scrambling for seconds.

Gift ideas for Valentine’s Day? Checked! Or a simple birthday present that is filled with sincerity? This will do just fine! Sometimes, an afternoon of baking and a dosage of love is all we need to bring a smile to our loved ones’ faces.

Forget about purchasing them from the stores. This no-bake recipe for the strawberry jello cheesecake can be assembled in a timely fashion with a pocket-friendly cost. Who said preparing desserts are a chore? We can assure you this will be easy peasy.

INGREDIENTS FOR THE STRAWBERRY JELLY HEART CHEESECAKE

For the crust layer:
8-9 Crushed digestive biscuits
40g Melted butter

For the cheesecake layer:
250g Cream cheese
1 tablespoon Gelatin powder
50g Icing sugar
40ml Boiling water
1 teaspoon Vanilla essence
10-12 Strawberries

For the jelly layer:
2 boxes of Strawberry/Raspberry-flavoured Tortally
1/2 cup Boiling water
1/2 cup Cold water

DIRECTIONS ON HOW TO MAKE THE STRAWBERRY JELLY HEART CHEESECAKE

1. Mix the digestive biscuits and butter together until you achieve a crumbly base. Line it at the bottom of the baking pan with a spoon while pressing them down simultaneously. After which, pop it into the refrigerator to chill while you start on the cheesecake filling.

2. With an electric mixer, beat the cream cheese, icing sugar, and vanilla essence until they become fluffy.

3. In a small bowl, combine the gelatin powder and boiling water and stir continuously.

4. Add the gelatin mixture to the cream cheese mixture and continue whisking.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

5. Pour the final cream cheese mixture onto the hardened crust layer. Cut up a few strawberries in half (you may want to use a heart-shape cutter for prettier pieces), and assemble the strawberries on the cream cheese layer.

6. Pop it back into the refrigerator to chill for around 4-5 hours until the cream cheese layer is hardened completely.

7. Prepare the jelly layer by adding hot water to the Tortally jelly bits. Stir them until they melt. Pour in the cold water and mix well.

8. Pour the Jelly mixture on top of the cream cheese layer, and let it set in the refrigerator.

9. Slice and serve! You might want to dip your sharpened knife into hot water and clean them consistently while slicing through the Strawberry Jello Cheesecake to prevent crumbs from sticking to the knife.

This marvellous handmade dessert – or what is better known now as Ice Cream Rolls – from Thailand has been the talk of the town of late, and we are here to check out the hype.

Ice Cream Rolls are essentially made from pouring milk on an iced grill, before continuously smashing and chopping them skillfully while mixing in various toppings, be it fruits, chocolates or even marshmallows. The slightly hardened ice cream is thereafter rolled into thin pieces and drizzled with dessert sauces – so wickedly sinful, which makes us love them more.

If you have been salivating at videos of this sweet creation on your social media feeds, you should be treating yourself to a helping already. Many ice cream parlours in Singapore have picked up on this trend, bringing these Ice Cream Rolls closer to our doorsteps and our hearts.

That being said, check out these 5 Places In Singapore To Get Ice Cream Rolls!

#1 21 CUBE ARTISAN ICE CREAM

21 Cube Artisan Ice Cream is conveniently located at the premises of SCAPE. Thank God we have something chilled to pamper ourselves with after all that shopping in town.

Their Ice Cream rolls are sold at S$5.90 for 2 mixers and S$4.90 for 1 mixer – with your choice of base flavours and toppings. The chewy, melt-in-your-mouth ice cream rolls definitely did justice to the latest dessert obsession, and we want more.

#2 COYORO

Good news for all the North-siders! Situated at the basement of the recently revamped Sunplaza, cOyOrO is the first stall that sells yogurt ice cream rolls. Yes, you heard us right! For those who prefer a lighter option, opt for this yogurt rendition instead.

Although the Cocoyoro (S$7.90) might seem a little pricey, it is prepared with fresh coconut, dried cranberries and even topped with a yoghurt soft-serve. With their intrinsically soft consistencies, Yogurt Ice Cream Rolls are more prone to melting, but it does not bother us because we finished ours within minutes (glutton like that).

Granted, it requires a certain amount of courage to proclaim oneself as The Famous Ice Cream Rolls Shop and that further sparked our curiosity to check them out. This newest addition to Thomson V Two is a cosy Halal establishment selling mainly Ice Cream Rolls with a humble cafe seating.

At S$3.90 a cup, you can select from 6 yummy flavours and it comes with 2 toppings. For additional toppings, you can get it at S$0.50 each. So is it really so good that they deserve their name? We say it is definitely worth a try!

Old School Delights at Upper Thomson Road is possibly one of the most interesting vintage cafes around, with an interior modelled after a typical classroom – wooden tables, tiled walls, menu in the form of a student handbook and vintage supplies packed at the corner of the cafe. The cafe ties in with the cultural roots of Singapore, dishing out old-school favourites such as Nasi Lemak (S$6.90) and Hainanese Chicken Cutlets (S$8.90).

It sits at the foot of a two-storey old shophouse and is embellished with wooden stools, old marble table tops and a welcoming front. It also has an alfresco dining area where you can soak in the quaint vibes of the neighbourhood.

If you are looking for a place to spend a quiet afternoon at, Lepark at People’s Park Complex – an unlikely location for a cool mod-sin tapas bar, we know – counts as a recent discovery and is now our new hideout.

With its hole-in-the-wall setting, it might take a little more effort to hunt this cafe down, but we promise you will not be disappointed with a rooftop dining experience unlike any other.

With a scenic view overlooking Chinatown and the Central Business District, its name was inspired by the Malay slang “Lepak”, which was recently adopted by the Oxford Dictionary to mean the act of chilling or hanging out.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

Lepark prides itself in that motto, evidently seen in the unique bench seatings rendered in the cafe that propels diners to bask in an atmosphere with great chill-out music at an alternative social space.

Lepark offers a menu with interesting fusion options, such as the SEY (S$12) – comprising soft shell crab, crab cake balls sitting on two nicely toasted mantou buns and finally drizzled with salted egg yolk sauce – where the medley of the bold flavours and distinct textures proved that one serving is simply not enough.

Another dish worth mentioning is their Poached Chicken Sushi (S$8 for 5 pieces) that is prepared by rolling homemade chicken rice into balls of sushi and wrapped with a thin strip of seaweed. A dollop of garlic chilli, egg floss and cherry tomatoes are then draped over it.

Our only gripe is that Lepark does not serve water. But fret not, for it carries a vast range of beers and drinks specially sourced from New Zealand. Beer flight options are also available for those who wish to sample a variety of beers at once.

#2 NUTELLA BROWNIES

Nutella Brownies are an easy feat. When done well, it forms a fudgy and cakey texture that will have you falling in love over and over again. We had a ball of fun whipping up this delicious creation, and guess what? This recipe only took us 3 ingredients and 30 minutes to prepare!

Ingredients:
1 1/4 cup Nutella
2 Eggs
1/2 Self-raising flour.
Chopped Walnuts (Optional)

Preheat the oven at 180 Degree Celsius. Mix all the ingredients together till smooth, and pour the mixture into a baking dish that is lightly brushed with oil/ butter. Sprinkle chopped walnuts on the batter, then put to bake for around 20-25 minutes. Allow it to cool before serving.

#3 NUTELLA MUG CAKES

Surprise, surprise! These gorgeous no-bake mug cakes only took us 5 minutes to assemble. Best part? Every bite was packed with a resounding burst of flavours. Serve them with marshmallows, or you can even top it with your favourite fruits. Granted, this mother of all Nutella recipes is the first you should get your hands on.

Ingredients:
4 tablespoons Self-raising flour
1 egg
3 tablespoons Nutella
2 tablespoons Milk
3 tablespoons Vegetable/ olive oil.
Icing sugar (optional)

Combine the ingredients together and mix until smooth. Pour the mixture into a mug (choose a pretty one if you are intending to take a hundred photos of it!), then pop it into the microwave oven for approximately 2 minutes on ‘high’. Sprinkle some icing sugar for a finishing touch.

#4 NUTELLA POPSICLES

Nutella Popsicles can be made with a grand total of two ingredients, and we love how they resemble our childhood favourite PaddlePops! This snack is a crowd-pleaser among children and also serves as a fuss-free dessert for anyone who has a sweet tooth.

Ingredients:
1 cup Milk
1/3 cup Nutella

Mix the Nutella and milk together until the Nutella has completely melted. It would be easier if you heat your milk up a little before mixing the Nutella in. Then, simply pour the mixture into your popsicle moulds. Freeze for around 3 hours before serving.

#5 NUTELLA S’MORES

S’mores are essentially dessert sandwiches made of two graham crackers, melted marshmallows and a chocolate spread of your choice. But of course, being the huge Nutella fans we are, we decided to create our own rendition of the dessert with a Nutella spread. Why not, right?

Ingredients:
1 Marshmallow
2 Graham Biscuits (Or just any biscuits of your choice)
Nutella Spread

Sit the marshmallow on one side of the graham biscuit and pop it in the oven for around 5 to 10 minutes at 120 Degree Celsius. In the meantime, spread the Nutella on the other side of the biscuit. Once the marshmallow has melted, take the graham biscuit out of the oven and piece the two biscuits together. Best served hot.

#6 NUTELLA FUDGE

This rich and creamy dessert is definitely the most sinful one of the lot (you will soon find out from the ingredients list), but that did not deter us from experimenting with the recipe. These gorgeous Nutella Fudge got our taste buds tickling with excitement, and yes, you need to try it too. Forget about calories; they don’t count when we are partying with Nutella.

Recipe:
1 cup Nutella
2 sticks Butter
1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon Salt
3/4 cup diced Walnut (optional)

Line a baking pan with Aluminium Foil. Melt the Nutella and butter together in a bowl – you may want to seek some help from the microwave oven to do so. Continue stirring the mixture until it smoothens out. Add in the rest of the ingredients, and stir them together until the mixture thickens. Pour the concoction into the baking pan while smoothing the top. Refrigerate for at least 3 hours, and cut them up to your desired size before serving.

#7 NUTELLA COFFEE MILKSHAKE

Nutella Coffee Milkshake is probably the most decadent dessert drink to serve at a house party. Or it can simply be a sweet treat, because we do not exactly need a reason to reward ourselves. It requires the use of everyday ingredients which you can easily get from any supermarket – no more excuses to not make them!

Ingredients:
2 scoops of Vanilla ice cream
1/4 cup Coffee
2 tablespoon Nutella

Pour all ingredients into a blender and blend – yes, that is all you need to do!

#8 NUTELLA ICE CREAM

Nutella Ice Cream? Well, yes please! This scores as a comfort food for many, and even though it requires ingredients that are less sought after, we promise that the efforts would be worth it.

Ingredients:
1 cup Nutella
1 cup Condensed milk
1 cup Heavy cream / Thick cream

In a mixing bowl, beat the heavy cream with a whisk until it becomes stiff – to the point where the cream would not topple even when you flip the mixing bowl upside down. Add in the Nutella and condensed milk and continue beating the mixture until it becomes stiff again. Freeze it for 5 hours or more before serving.

#9 NUTELLA FRENCH TOAST

French Toasts are incredibly easy to prepare, and the ingredients are very cheap and easy to find – just eggs and bread is all you need. But we like ours jazzed up with Nutella; it will make a splendid breakfast to get you pumped up for the day. Don’t forget to throw in some berries!

Ingredients:
1/2 Eggs
White Bread
Nutella Spread

Crack the eggs into a bowl and whisk them until they turn fluffy. Sponge the bread in the egg mixture and fry it till golden brown – the control of fire is important as you would not want the bread to become charred. Lastly, slather your Nutella spread in between the slices of goodness, add your favourite berries, and breakfast is ready!

Their Injeolmi Bingsu (S$11) remains the best seller with finely shaved ice topped with soy powder, Korean rice cake, almond slices, and comes with an additional serving condensed milk – a dessert experience you will not and may never want to forget.

#2 CHICK N KEN

Other than serving mouth-watering Korean Fried Chicken, Chick and Ken also serves up beautiful bowls of Bingsu with a twist – the syrup comes in syringes, so that you can add in as much as you like, depending on your preferred levels of sweetness.

The Korean ice shavings here at Chick and Ken are coarser with slight similarities to our local Ice Kachang. We suggest you opt for their Cha-Yen Bingsu (S$12.90), an amalgamation of Thai and Korean flavours with honeyed Cornflakes, homemade Red Rubies and Thai Tea Agar.

#3 CAFE INSADONG

Finally, a cafe in Singapore that serves Bingsu affordably priced less than S$10! Even though prices are slightly cheaper, Cafe Insadong is always more than generous with their serving portions. Many people flock to the cafe for their famed Sweet Potato Patbingsu (S$9.80) with rice cakes sufficiently stuffed with sweet bean paste, sugared nuts and sweet potato mash to accompany the ice shavings. We have to say this bowl is a pretty photogenic one, huh?

#4 NUNSONGYEE

This is undoubtedly one of the best Bingsu cafes in Singapore. Also known as “snowflake” in Korean, Nunsongyee has literally lived up to its name with their thinly shaved ice which has beckoned patrons to go back for more. Some of the signature Bingsus include their Black Sesame Bingsu (S$18.90) with black sesame powder, almond flakes, red bean paste and topped with Korean rice cakes which piqued our interests with its wondrous melt of flavours.

#5 NUNSARAM KOREAN DESSERT CAFE

If you are heading to town, do swing by Nunsaram. Conveniently located at Orchard Central, it prides itself as the go-to cafe for desserts or simply a place where friends can hang out after a meal.

Most of the Bingsu in the cafe are presented with a scoop of ice cream sitting glamorously atop the pile of ice. We heard that they use fresh ingredients for every serving of Bingsu – such as the Sweet Potato Bingsu (S$12.90), where the purple paste is acquired from the sweet potato root itself.

#6 O’MA SPOON

Oma Spoon is a clear winner for us. Having their Bingsu was akin to eating snowflakes with a melt-in-your-mouth texture that all of us approved. Their Patbingsu (S$12.80) did the phrase “less is more” justice. We were in awe of how a classic Bingsu that was served in just sweet azuki beans atop milk ice shavings could rock our worlds with its heavenly medley of textures and flavours.

Their Yoghurt Cheesecake Bingsu (S$12.80) had an interesting fusion of flavours, with cheesecake toppings and delicate yoghurt ice flakes melting almost immediately in our mouths.
Being one of the new members to the cafe-hopping family in Singapore, OMB at Dunlop Street will be the dream come true of all bacon lovers. You probably already got that from its name – Oh My Bacon, geddit?

Let’s cut the chase and go straight to the point – bacon is used as much as possible in every dish in the menu at OMB – Singapore’s first bacon-inspired cafe. Even the simplest of dish will have its flavours elevated with bacon. You see, anything bacon is always good.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

That said, OMB does a pretty fine job in whipping up both savoury and sweet treats. You can find many uncommon variations of bacon-infused desserts here such as Bacon Macarons, Bacon Brownies, Bacon Scones, and even Bacon Ice-Cream. Go crazy right about now.

Once you step into the cafe, you will be greeted with quotes and illustrations in relation to all things bacon. For the shopaholics, you can also grab your favorite bacon-inspired merchandises such as pillows, tote bags, and plushies decked out at the cafe.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

Savoury bacon lovers should totally give the Bacon Bomb (S$28) a shot. Listen – pork, bacon, beef and cheese all wrapped nicely in a roll; how enticing does that sound? The original bacon roll is around 4 times the size of the samplers shown. Take a bite into it and you will find yourself sinking into a mass of deliciously grilled meat. We say get a fellow badass friend to get this badass job done.

Another crowd favourite is notably the Bacon Brownie (S$4.50). The chocolate fudge sitting on the brownie was generously topped with bacon slices; this dessert was a joy to savour. You can also opt for additional toppings of Vanilla or Bacon Ice Cream.

Being in a food haven like Singapore allows us countless opportunities to encounter new dishes and experiment with local flavours while meeting new people. Being Singaporeans, we are bound to possess certain dining traits that make us truly Singaporean.

Take a look around you and you might just see these interesting habits in those closest to you. Ever been asked by foreign friends about how Singaporeans are like? Here’s a sneak peek into some of the dining etiquettes that most Singaporean diners possess!

Here are the 10 Types Of Singaporean Diners You Will Meet Once In Your Life.

#1 THE CALCULATIVE ONES

These people are usually the ones who would provide us with the exact sum to pay at the end of the meal. Trust them to whip out their handy calculators to divide the bill down to the last cent – GST and service charge included! They are also usually the ones who will know of exclusive dining discounts and privileges, so do check with them often!

#2 THE SHARERS

The Sharers are the ones who will never fail to offer their bowl of Laksa or a piece of their gorgeously executed steak to their friends or loved ones. They are always the first ones to share, and the last to ask for anything in return. It is usually through these kind souls that we get to try the rest of the other items on the menu!

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

#3 THE DIVA

When it comes to The Diva, cafes and restaurants should brace themselves for some serious nitpicking! Extra gravy smudge? Plate with a chipped corner? Water not being topped up regularly? The Divas will be the ones to kick up a fuss over the smallest details and seem to have a liking for meet-and-greet sessions with restaurant managers.

#4 THE MOMS

As the name suggests, these people are, well, very motherly. They will be the first ones who would fill your plates to the brim, and are always going around to check if you’ve had enough to eat. Everyone loves going for BBQ or steamboat sessions with them as they would be the ones to cook and feed everyone with an endless supply of food! We do wish for our other halves to be like this, since the key to the heart, as they say, is through the stomach!

#5 PHONE ADDICTS

When we dine with the Phone Addicts, they are often seen having their heads burrowed in their phones, scrolling through social media platforms or chatting with someone else instead of engaging in a conversation with us. We know that you cannot get enough of your friends or cannot stop checking your Instagram, but many times, we wish that you would shower us with more attention because, well, we asked you out for a reason, right?

Read: 10 Signs You Are An Instagram Addict – And What You Should Do About It.

#6 FUSSY EATERS

These are the people whom you would hear saying, “I want to eat Char Kway Teow but I do not like it when they do not pluck the tip of my bean sprouts”. Or, “I am craving for a good cuppa, but I am also yearning for something cold and more refreshing”.

Yes, ’nuff said.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

#7 THE INDECISIVE

One way to combat these people: look up the cafe or restaurant menu online and send it to them before you meet. That way, they will have ample time to decide what they want to order before the meal. Sometimes, it really kills the mood to dine with the indecisive ones especially when you are on an empty stomach or are already one step away from fainting.

#8 THE FOMOS

The FOMOs, or also known as Fear Of Missing Out. Those who have had buffets, you will know what we mean. These are the ones who would arrive right before the buffet commences and would start by piling food on their plates, even if it looks impossible to finish, just so that they do not miss out on anything.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

#9 THE INSTAGRAMMERS

Alas, the ones that can be spotted almost everywhere! Friends dining with the Instagrammers, please be warned to not touch anything until they are done with snapping a hundred and one pictures.

And do not be alarmed if they stand up and start rearranging everything on the table!
From the people behind Lucha Loco, Super Loco is an upbeat Mexican restaurant along Robertson Quay that boasts Mexican vibes; it will enchant you to no end. The specially curated menu features Mexican street finds, power packed with delicious flavours that would be an absolute delight to your tastebuds.

The restaurant follows the colour theme of pastels and neon – inspired by the owner’s travels in the city of Mexico – and that adds to the fun of dining by the river walk.

With a menu full of Mexican delights and alcohol, be ready for a unique dining experience as you sip on some of their signature alcoholic concoctions while enjoying a dish or two from their dinner menu.

Since last year, Super Loco introduced a series of Mexican brunch items available on weekends. A striking contrast from the usual run-of-the-mill breakfast staples, these wondrous creations are usually found on the streets of Mexico, then gradually being served in cafes, and now, brought here to Singapore and onto your brunch plates.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

HOW IS IT PREPARED?

Though the flavours found in the Assam Laksa can be intense, its ingredients can be easily assembled and sourced from the wet markets. As derived from its name, one of the main ingredients found would be Tamarind, also known as Assam in Malay to give it a needed punch of tartness. Other than that, polygonum leaves, tamarind juice, lemongrass and mackerel are used to create a distinct sweetness in the Assam stock.

A spicy paste consisting of diced chilli, belachan and shallots are then poured into the stock before completion. Rice noodles are added in before garnishing it with chopped mint leaves, polygonum, lettuce, cucumber, pineapple and kantan.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

HOW MUCH IS IT SOLD FOR?

The Assam Laksa is incredibly affordable, and can be purchased at RM5 – which amounts to less than S$2. Being one of the most famous hawker food in Penang, we are confident to say that one bowl is simply not enough. We always leave Penang with thoughts of having another serving of this spicy and appetising dish on our next visit.

WHERE CAN YOU FIND IT?

It can be found everywhere, and we really do mean everywhere. Since it is a commonly enjoyed hawker fare, we would recommend you to savour this from one of the street stalls for the most authentic flavours and a knoll of fresh ingredients. Who else is up for this great bowl of Assam Laksa?

Located in the Central Region of Singapore, Toa Payoh is evidently one of the oldest regions in the country and is fondly remembered for its iconic dragon-shaped playgrounds. In the recent years, cafe entrepreneurs have started to take notice of the estate and introduced the cafe culture there, making it a perfect afternoon escapade for many.

More often than not, cafe hoppers are greeted with a peaceful and quaint environment that will never remind them of the stressful life in a city. Most of these cafes are situated near to one another, making it irresistible to conquer them all while you are at Toa Payoh – like a day trip in Toa Payoh, yes?

So, we did some rounding up, and here are the Cafes To Visit In Toa Payoh while you are in the area!

Picture this scenario: You are down and beaten up by the dreaded Monday blues and are in need of some comfort food to brighten up your day. You google for your preferred choice of cafe, only to realize that they are indeed too, not functioning on the first day of the week.

We have been there, done that and very much want to elevate your dull Mondays. Nothing screams comfort as much as food does, which makes it even more frustrating when some of the cafes you want to visit so badly are closed on the day you need them the most.

With that said, we are here to help you kickstart the week with a bang. Check out the cafes in Singapore that are open on Mondays to bring a smile to the start of your week.

Drury Lane Café’s muffins have captured the attention of many for its tastiness and unique payment concept – you get to pay whatever amount you deem fit and we hope everyone takes this opportunity to be generous and to appreciate the bakers, instead of stingy. The shophouse-cafe can be easily spotted with its bright red doorframe and workaholics rejoice – there’s free WI-FI too!

While the taste of the special dishes remain debatable, Miss Molly at Tanjong Pagar definitely deserves some recognition for their brave attempt in marrying Asian flavours with Western cuisine.

The Daily Roundup at The Working Capitol – one of the hottest co-working spaces in Singapore – serves a simple purpose of offering fresh food and coffee. The menu is conceptualised by French chef Julien Royer (formerly of JAAN fame), and the star dish has to be their great selection of both sweet and savoury crepes. We love the space for its free wifi and minimalistic interior.

By the owners of The Bravery and Ronin, The Plain offers a fresh experience to cafe hopping with its casual and relaxed ambience. If you are not an early riser, you will be heartened to know that The Plain serves all-day breakfasts such as their Darling’s Eggs (S$14) – which was an absolute darling to our taste buds. The coffee served here were well-executed too.
