It is unheard of to skip their Flame Grilled Pork Jowl with Thai Dip (S$15.80) because the succulent pork slices are grilled to perfection and come with a slightly charred exterior that goes really well with the lean meat.

Another classic dish that is worthy of praises includes the Pineapple Tom Yum soup served in Husk (S$16.80). Diners get to drink it straight from a pineapple husk and we’ve got to say, this is the most aesthetically-pleasing tom yum soup we have ever seen so far! Other noteworthy dishes are the Thai Soufflé Steamed Egg (S$10.80) and Pineapple Sang Som (S$26.80).

#4 GREENWOOD FISH MARKET

The chic seafood restaurant is the ideal social gathering spot for groups of friends and is also a romantic dining destination for couples too. We always enjoy a visit to Greenwood Fish Market because of the plethora of fresh seafood that is available on their menu.

Look forward to the upcoming 6th World Oyster Festival from 1st to 31st July where you get to sample on different species of oysters (prices vary according to species of oysters) that are sourced from all over the world—Mary Points, Ostra Regal and Barron Points are just some to name. Boy, we had such a good time slurping them all up and comparing the differences in taste. Yes, each variety of oyster has their own unique identity!

Otherwise, opt for the Rock Lobster Thermidor (S$69.95) if you are up for something more premium—the luscious meat was covered in a blanket of brandy cream sauce topped with cheese before it is baked in the oven till golden brown. Another excellent option is the Hot Smoked Ocean Trout (S$35.95) which came with Portobello mushroom confit and grilled lettuce.

#5 MISKA CAFÉ

With tables that come with colourful squared tiles and an al fresco dining area, Miska Café emits cheerful and laid-back vibes that encourage you to stay on for a tipple or more.

Modern mediterranean food is what Miska Café specialises in and their menu boasts a mixture of Greek, Turkish and Middle Eastern food. Prepare yourself for some fresh produce, rich spices and exotic flavours that are uncommon on our tiny island.

We recommend the Lamb Kofta Wrap (S$22) for the hearty eaters as the wraps that are served to you are filled with generous portions of grilled marinated lamb, thinly sliced onions, romaine lettuce, tomato slices, tzatziki sauce and parsley. All wraps come with your choice of side salad or fries.

New on the menu is the Shrimp Shakshouka (S$26), which is essentially oven-baked eggs with roasted stewed tomato, fetacheese, chilli peppers, onion and a generous serving of shrimps. If not, another typical Mediterranean option is the Chicken Sanga (S$18.50) and it features breaded chicken, tomato chutney and machego cheese in between ciabatta bread.

#6 MUSEO

Museo is where the artistic community will find like-minded creative individuals; the restaurant-cum-bar also houses its own art studio so guests are able to unleash their inner Picasso potential to the fullest. All necessary supplies—including a canvas, unlimited acrylic paint and brushes—are provided.

When it comes to their food, Museo aims to reshape the way you think about fine dining. Their casual fine dining concept involves serving food in elegant glass jars which invoke some fun into the dining experience.

Some dishes to try are the Cold Pasta (S$11), Pan-Seared Hokkaido Sea Scallop (S$14), Smoked Roast Pork (S$12) and Deep-Fried Camembert Cheese (S$13) before rounding your meal with the refreshing Red Wine Poached Pear with Berry Compote (S$15) and Cream Cheese Panna Cotta with Watermelon Freeze (S$13).

Should you be looking for something more luxurious, the Buttered Glaze Lobster (S$45) that comes with lobster bisque, couscous, caviar, Chardonnay jelly and watermelon cloud will definitely be something worthy to splurge on.

#7 MYKONOS ON THE BAY

If taking the next flight out to Greece is not on your calendar anytime soon, Mykonos On The Bay is the next best alternative. Decked out in a calm oasis of blue and white interior, walking into the restaurant is as if you are walking along the coastline of Mykonos.

There is no better way to discover Greece than through its gastronomy and at Mykonos On The Bay, you can be assured that every dish is prepared with utmost precision by following traditional Greek cooking techniques.

Start your meal with the Mykonos Dip Platter (S$26) where you are treated to three types of dips to pair with homemade pita bread—namely Tzatziki (cucumber yoghurt), Taramasalata (fish roe) and Melitzanosalata (eggplant).

Other crowd favourites include Graviera Saganaki (S$15.50), Moussaka (S$27) Pita Gyros (S$27.50) and Baklava (S$15.90).

#8 SABIO BY THE SEA, TAPAS BAR & GRILL

Paying homage to Spanish cuisine, Sabio by the Sea, Tapas Bar & Grill has a culinary team that is trained to whip up impeccable Spanish tapas and grilled dishes. The charming restaurant is where working professionals head to after work for a splendid dinner and their range of alcoholic drinks.

For communal dining, the Seafood Paella (S$29) is an excellent option that will satisfy all the seafood lovers at the table. Just imagine the medley of fresh seafood atop a bed of warm, fluffy rice that has been seasoned with saffron and other spices.

If you are just looking for some light bites to go along with drinks, their Ceviche de Gambas (S$18)—essentially Tiger prawns served with corn tortilla chips—and Carpaccio de Pulpo (octopus carpaccio, S$18) are the top picks on their tapas menu.

#9 SCHMEAR

Schmear—opened by a New Yorker who wanted to share his passion for bagels—is where you can walk into the smell of freshly baked New York-style bagels and over-the-top meat platters.

Their hand-rolled NY bagels are obviously the best sellers on the menu and you can either choose to personalise your own bagel with various toppings or go for scrumptious options such as The New Yorker (S$8) and The Central Park (S$14). These bagels come with different types of cream cheese and sides such as salmon and eggs—talk about a breakfast fit for kings.

For the carnivores, Schmear’s BBQ Babyback Ribs (S$32, full size) and the House-Ground Steak Burger (S$18) will leave your tummies satisfied and happy. The former is succulent pork ribs coated with Schmear’s homemade tangy BBQ sauce and the latter is a 200g house-ground all-beef patty with caramelised onions, California cheddar cheese, BBQ sauce, lettuce and tomato, with the option to add bacon, egg, and/or guacamole ($3 each or $8 for all).

Sentosa has a myriad of different restaurants and cuisine types for the whole family. A fun day at the beach includes dining at one of the many F&B establishments within the island, and the options range from luxurious restaurants to casual beach eateries.

Amidst all the laughter and fun, the thought of where to grab a good meal in Sentosa has probably crossed your mind. Contrary to most expectations, the island of Sentosa is filled with plenty of good eats from a range of different cuisines; you will never be bored!

There are so many cafes and restaurants in Sentosa that will be worth travelling all the way into the heart of the island for. Whether you head down as a family or with friends, you will find a restaurant that suits you. Here are 9 Cafes & Restaurants In Sentosa You Must Check Out.

#1 COASTES

Coastes sits by the shore on Siloso Beach and its massive space allows for awesome communal dining in big groups. Coastes is just a 5-minute walk from the Beach Station.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>//

Most of the food at Coastes makes for a great communal dining experience. Pizzas, platters and sharing snacks; just to speak of a few. The Big Bad Wolf Pizza (S$25) has a simple mix of bacon, roast chicken, capsicum and mushrooms as toppings that we thoroughly enjoyed, especially with its thin and crunchy crust.

The Bourbon-Glazed Pork Ribs (S$20 Half/ S$30 Full) was so tender and soft that it fell off the bone as soon as we cut into it. Come in a bigger group and you should order the giant Seafood Platter (S$52)—an assortment of seafood that includes pan-fried crayfish, crab salad, fish stew, poached tiger prawns with pineapple salsa, chilli clams and calamari rings.

Coastes
Getting there: Alight at Beach Station and take a 5-10min walk towards Siloso Beach

#2 FOC SENTOSA

FOC Sentosa has a Spanish menu that is wholesome and very palatable. We started our meal with the Spanish Vermouth, which is a combination of several different starters such as the Bread with Tomato (S$10), Iberico Ham (S$30) and Anchovies in Olive Oil (S$16).

The food might seem simple but we were blown away by the quality. The Jamon Iberico Ham was tantalising when eaten with the tomato bread.

The Senyoret Paella (S$40/2 pax) was the highlight of our meal. Cooked with squid and monkfish, every mouthful was a literal burst of flavours from the spices and herbs used to cook the Paella.

We ended our meal off with an interesting dessert. The Yin Yang Cracker (S$14) is more than just its novelty appearance. The hazelnut cream centre was so rich and cold, almost like ice cream.

#3 GIN KHAO BISTRO

Recognised for its authentic Thai cuisine which showcases the very best of Thai flavours, Gin Khao Bistro prides itself as the first and only restaurant in Singapore that serves the restaurant’s Signature Watermelon Fried Rice (S$25.80). A must-try, this dish is essentially a feast of seafood and fried rice imbued with a distinct “wok hei” flavour, plated in a watermelon. Take your time to enjoy this amazing creation and savour the sweetness from the watermelon chunks.

The Crayfish with glass noodle served in claypot (S$20.80) is arguably another one of Gin Khao Bistro’s best dishes. Picture this: Juicy crayfish is simmered in Thai garlicky and peppery sauce in a claypot over high heat. Paired with glass noodles bursting with the flavours of the rich sauce, your taste buds will not be disappointed.

Gin Khao Bistro also carries a range of other Thai delights such Deep Fried Sea Bass with Thai Sauce, Steamed Scallop with Thai Tang Hoon and Garlic Sauce and Stir Fried Roast Duck in Hot Thai Basil Sauce.

An inviting Thai restaurant with a relaxing atmosphere, feast to your heart’s content by the stunning waterfront at Gin Khao Bistro.

#5 MYKONOS ON THE BAY

Mykonos On The Bay is probably the closest we can get to authentic Greek dining experience in Singapore. With a blue and white theme juxtaposed against the tiled rock floor, we felt ourselves being transported to the idyllic Mykonos the moment we stepped into the restaurant.

The serene atmosphere at Mykonos On The Bay is complemented by its wonderful spread of Greek delights; there is just so much to celebrate!

Begin your meal with the Mykonos Dip Platter (S$26) comprising of Tzatziki, Taramasalata and Melitzanosalata. Then, feast on the Mousaka (S$27) which although resembles a lasagna, is actually an eggplant and potato dish with ground meat and béchamel sauce. Or, try the Pita Gyros (S$27.50), which is a marinated pork belly served with homemade pita bread and tzatziki.

#6 OLA BEACH CLUB

Ola Beach Club is the newest kid on the block, having only opened its doors a mere 5 months ago. Besides being a beach club and a water sports centre, Ola Beach Club dishes out traditional Hawaiian fare that is true to its roots.

The Ahi Poke (S$20) is a classic favourite that is a bowl of beautifully marinated ahi tuna, guacamole, ebiko, pomegranate and kimchi! If you want something a little more filling, The Huli Huli Chicken (S$20) can do no wrong. Both chicken breast and thigh are well marinated with Teriyaki sauce before being served with charred leek, a carrot, root vegetable purée and natural jus.

However, our absolute favourite dish was the Loco Moco (S$25). A thick 150g Wagyu patty sits on top the most fragrant and tasty kombu rice. The rice itself was so good, and atop the Wagyu patty sits a panko poached egg. Cut through it and watch the magic happen.

#7 WAVE HOUSE SENTOSA RESTAURANT & BAR

Known for being a water sports destination, especially with its iconic wave pool, you should be no stranger to Wave House Sentosa Restaurant & Bar. This beach club occupies the area towards the end of Siloso Beach Club and dishes out great casual communal Western fare.

After trying out the water sports, you should be positively starving. So why not grab a plate of the Nachos Supreme (S$16.30)? The portion is extremely generous and you get a side of guacamole, salsa and sour cream to dip.

For your main course, try the 6 OZ Handmade Beef Burger 9 (S$17) that includes spicy roasted peanut sauce, cucumber, lettuce and roasted red onions, served with salad greens and straight cut fries.

Try the All Time Favourite ‘Wipe-Out’ Pizza (S$17.80). This crowd-favourite is topped with beef pepperoni, smoked chicken, chicken bratwurst, mushrooms, capsicum, pineapples, olives and herbs.

#8 WOK°15 KITCHEN

Tucked away in the corner of the first level of the prestigious ONE°15 Marina Club, WOK°15 Kitchen is a Chinese restaurant that offers a menu which includes local specialities and Cantonese cuisine.

An array of astounding seafood delights awaits, such as the Garoupa served two ways which comprises sliced sautéed Garoupa fish fillet and deep-fried Garoupa fish bone served with chilli salsa on the side. This dish had an immaculate presentation and also featured a delicate bird hand-crafted from just carrots. Impressive, to say the least.

The nourishing Double Boiled Sakura Chicken Soup was something that we really enjoyed and though light, it was extremely fragrant and flavourful.

Your meal will not be complete without the Wok°15 Signature Chilli Crab—Sri Lankan crabs stir-fried in spicy sweet chilli sauce and served in a wok. Of course, you have to dip your deep-fried mantou buns in the sweet chilli crab sauce. Let no sauce go to waste!

Alright, this is a bonus that is out of the island of Sentosa.

Offering an excellent alfresco dining experience atop Mount Faber, Spuds & Aprons is a dining destination that is suitable for both families and couples, complete with stunning views of the Sentosa Express and city landscape that forms a picturesque backdrop to your meal.

Amongst the wide selection of Western and Asian fusion dishes at Spuds & Aprons, signatures you must try include the Tobiko Crusted Cod (S$32) and the Oven Roasted Mustard Marinated Chicken (S$19).

However, what took the prize for us was the visually arresting Grilled King Prawns pasta (S$32). A Thai-inspired dish, succulent prawns grilled to perfection were served atop a bed of silky al dente squid ink pasta, shimeji mushrooms, cherry tomatoes and a tangy tom yam broth.

Sentosa is an island in Singapore we escape to when we need to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. A game of volleyball, a stroll along the beach or nature trails, sunbathing, a ride down the Luge, a walk around the Merlion… the island sure is one to keep us occupied with its sheer number of outdoor activities and array of themed attractions, but the island is also home to some amazing restaurants, bars and cafés that you might have overlooked while having fun.

A trove of different dining concepts and cuisines makes Sentosa an island worth checking out when you need meal ideas. Brunch spots by the marina, fresh seafood, modern Chinese cuisine, burgers at beach bars, fine dining… these are just some of the exhilarating dining options you can expect when in Sentosa.

#1 COASTES

Coastes is probably everything that you would imagine a beach bar & restaurant to be. It sits along the shores of Siloso Beach, and is furnished with beach benches and lounge chairs that allow you to take in the beach view while eating.

The restaurant serves up classic Western fare such as burgers, pizzas and pastas, together with a selection of different drinks – both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. The Spaghetti Vongole (S$22++) and Duck and Arugula Pizza (S$22++) were some standout dishes we had.

#2 WAVE HOUSE SENTOSA RESTAURANT & BAR

You’ve probably heard about Wave House Sentosa before – it is where you can try your hands (or legs) at surfing in the wave pool. But do you know about Wave House Sentosa Restaurant & Bar, where you can dine at and enjoy some California-Asian fare?

They carry a range of tapas, and the Nachos Supreme (S$16.30++) is hands down the best thing on the menu. Of course, we would do a Handmade Beef Burger With Spicy Roasted Peanut Sauce (S$15.90++) after “surfing” in the wave pool.

From now until 31 October 2016, Ladyironchef readers can enjoy a complimentary glass of wine with every 3-course meal (soup/starter, main, and dessert) ordered. Flash this article to redeem the promotion.

Nestled in the serene quarters of Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa’s So SPA, The Garden is a tranquil restaurant to retreat to on hot afternoons. It is one of Sentosa’s best-kept secrets.

The interior is minimally decorated, with a single tree growing within the restaurant itself. Soft, peaceful music will keep you company as you indulge in The Garden’s beautifully-plated dishes.

The Garden focuses on healthy, conscious dining. Our favourite main is the Wasabi Miso Glazed Chilean Sea Bass (S$38++). Even the desserts here are sin-free, such as the Dark Chocolate and Avocado Mousse (S$12++) that is a very healthy treat for your sweet tooth.

The restaurant is keeping things fresh with a Weekend Lunch Menu that starts at just S$18++ for a main dish.

The Assam Curry Barramundi Fish Fillet harmoniously blends spicy with sour, and the barramundi is cooked to soft, tender perfection. And the Signature Chicken Rice Paella is the restaurant’s star dish; who would have thought that the classic Hainanese Chicken Rice could be reinvented with such allure?

They are well-known for their Crispy Calamari (S$20++). The all-new Lobster Bun (S$38++) is a twist on the conventional lobster rolls, and comes with a hefty side of fries. And you see that gorgeous pineapple in the photo?
#7 LATEST RECIPE

Latest Recipe — located at the Heritage Wing of the upscale Le Méridien Singapore, Sentosa — will treat your taste buds to a sensory experience. Tucked away in a quieter part of the island, the restaurant is one that will make you feel exclusive. Great venue for business luncheons and undisturbed dates, we’d say.

Latest Recipe brings in a plethora of Western and Asian fare with elegant twists.

Take the Black Pepper Char Kway Teow (S$20++) for instance. It blends in the comforting Singaporean taste of good ol’ hawker food with refreshing hints of black pepper.

Seafood-lovers are in for the treat. Sabio By The Sea, Tapas & Grill at Quayside Isle specialises in fresh seafood and authentic Spanish dishes such as the signature paella. The décor takes after Spanish influences, with vibrant pop art on the walls.

You shouldn’t miss out on the Paella de Pescado, which is cooked with squid, sea bass and mussels. These paellas come in sharing portions and starts from S$29++ that is good for two.

We always spoil ourselves with a glass of Sangria (S$12++), that comes in both red and white wine options.

#10 THE KNOLLS

The Knolls is a high-end restaurant that sits within five-star Capella Hotel and Resort, and it is elegant, to say the least. The restaurant almost looks like a winding hallway, with plush seats and velveteen walls.

The Sesame Pan Fried Duck Liver (S$28++) was of melt-in-the-mouth consistency and it was probably the biggest slab of foie gras we have ever seen. There is the Roasted New Zealand Lamb Rack (S$78++) that is accompanied with Mediterranean couscous, and the massive portion is good for two to share.

Having a lovely meal while enjoying a fantastic view of the Quayside Isle’s marina; that is the winning formula for an enjoyable lunch. Now, what if we tell you that a stellar lunch here can go for less than S$25?

If you had your initial doubts about the price tag of dining at Quayside Isle, you need not to anymore. For less than S$25, you can grab a great lunch here with so many options to choose from. Greek food? Burgers? North Indian food? Quayside Isle provides an eclectic mix of different cuisine types from all around the world.

Here are 10 Affordable Lunch Options at Quayside Isle for Under S$25, so you have no reason to not make a trip down for a quiet afternoon or two. Or more.

#1 &MADE BURGER BISTRO L’ENTRECÔTE EXPRESS

&Made Burger Bistro might be a new addition to the enclave of restaurants at Quayside Isle, but is definitely no stranger to those in the know. Previously located in town, the diner has now moved to Sentosa Cove and is still serving mouthwatering gourmet burgers at affordable prices. The ‘B’ Burger (S$19) is the most popular item on the menu, featuring a succulent dry-aged beef patty topped with caramelised onions, French comté, caper and garlic mayo.

There are two other tantalising options priced under S$25 too, namely the &Made Beef Burger (S$16) and the Los Amigos (S$23). The former comprises a juicy beef patty, fresh lettuce, onions, cucumber pickles, garlic and caper mayo; the latter is a delectable dry-aged beef patty served with capsicums, double cheese jalapeños and spicy guacamole.

#2 COVE STADIUM

Cove Stadium is for all the sports enthusiasts out there. With huge plasma screens showing the latest sports hustles, lunch here sounds fun already. We were amazed while skeptical about a sports bar and restaurant serving Fish Head Curry but all our doubts were washed away after the first taste of this flavourful curry. IT. WAS. SO. GOOD.

Guess what? A small portion of this (good for 1-2 pax) goes for only S$21! If this curry is not your thing, you may opt for their signature Cove’s Chilli Dog (S$22) if you prefer something just as substantial. And also, all their salads are under S$25 too.

#3 EARL OF HINDH

Earl of Hindh brands itself as a semi-fine dining Indian restaurant, focusing on North Indian fare. If you are curious as to whether the restaurant has anything under S$25, they do!

A great lunch option would be the Gobhi Ke Shammi Kabab (S$20) and half portions of the curries and meats – Dhaba Chicken Curry (S$17) and Rogan Josh (S$18). The latter is a tasty lamb dish – also our favourite – that is best eaten with white rice or naan. Don’t belittle the portion for it is honestly pretty filling.

#4 KITH CAFÉ

Kith Café boasts a total of three outlets across sunny Singapore but it is their branch in Sentosa Cove that stole our hearts. With an amazing view of the tranquil yacht harbour and a comprehensive brunch menu that is available till 5pm, Kith Café is indeed a wonderful venue to unwind at with friends and family over a table of good coffee and food.

The Kith Super Salad (S$16) is a nourishing dish that packs a punch in every bite. The healthy salad – consisting of kale, quinoa, feta, crunchy greens, blueberries, cherry tomatoes, walnuts, sun-dried tomatoes, roasted garlic and tahini dressing – comes customisable with protein add-ons for a heartier alternative. We love this so much. Other tasty mains include the Smoked Salmon & Scrambled Eggs (S$20) and Roasted Beef Wrap (S$20).

#5 MISKA CAFÉ

This relaxing café has an inviting interior dominated by Mediterranean colours, and it is one of those places where you should kick off your shoes for a laid-back afternoon. They have several lunch options here that range from light to heavy selections, and prices are really reasonable.

The Baked Cypriot Halloumi (S$18) is a light option of lightly charred halloumi cheese that is so flavourful and addictive. For fuller portions, choose from the Seafood Pasta (S$24) that features a medley of ocean treasures tossed ala Marina style, or Chicken Kebab Wrap (S$21).

#6 MYKONOS ON THE BAY

Stepping into Mykonos On The Bay is like being transported to Mykonos in Greece. Everything is blue and white, bright and colourful; just like how it would be at Mykonos. The food here is fully authentic, and to quote the restaurant owner, their food is “better than the same items in Greece”.

Thankfully, he did not oversell himself, because everything we had was perfect. We really couldn’t pick on anything even if we had wanted to! For options under S$25, pick the Greek Salad (S$22.90) or the Spankopita (S$22.90), both delightful representations of true blue Greek food.

#7 NOTE DI SICILIA

Note di Sicilia has been commonly overlooked as a gelateria, but is in fact also a bar and a restaurant! The restaurant specialises in Sicilian dishes that will have you instantly teleported to the Mediterranean. For a substantial meal, choose the Spaghetti Parmigiano (S$22) or Gnocchi Gorgonzola (S$21).

Those with smaller appetites should order the traditional Fresh Burrata (S$24) served with roma tomatoes, olive oil and tapenade. For first-timers, this classic traditional entree is made from cream and mozzarella, hence giving a solid outer case with soft creamy insides. Note di Sicilia’s Melon Parme (S$14) and Swordfish Carpaccio (S$22) are equally delicious too!

#8 QUAYSIDE FISH BAR & BISTRO

This name is no stranger to seafood lovers. Quayside Fish Bar & Bistro is where fresh seafood is flown in daily for all their patrons. A plus point of dining here is, of course, the stunning view of the marina both in the afternoon and at night.

Quayside Fish Bar & Bistro has many options available under S$25 and these include Steak of the Sea Burger (S$22), Seafood Caesar Salad (S$18), Seafood Roll (S$24) and Halibut and Chips (S$24). If we had to choose, we would go for the fish and chips as it is Tiger Beer-battered with a side of wasabi-infused yuzu shoyu and tartare.

From Tuesdays to Fridays, Quayside Fish Bar & Bistro also offers its executive set lunches (choose from either 2-course or 3-course set).

#10 SOLEPOMODORO

SolePomodoro is an Italian trattoria known for their pastas and pizzas. Start your lunch with an appetiser of Calamari Fritters (S$18.50) before tucking yourself into their hearty Penna O Spaghetto Carbonara (S$24.50). The scrumptious cream-based pasta is served with an egg, smoked bacon and black pepper.

Their impressive pizza menu features up to 10 pizzas and a few vegetarian options all freshly baked from their wood-fired oven are available for those who are on meat-free diets, namely the Margherita Pizza (S$19.90) and Ortolana Pizza (S$24.50). For something even more filling, we are certain that the SolePomodoro Burger (S$24.50), which comes with the side dish of the day, will fit the bill.

Anytime is a good time for steaks, but SKIRT at W Singapore – Sentosa Cove is one chi-chi steakhouse that we prefer to reserve for dates with the discerning loved ones. And this is why this Valentine’s Day, there is nowhere better than romancing your date with an unforgettably lavish dinner at SKIRT. After all, you need a reliable outlet where the service is impeccable and professional, and SKIRT is ideal with its mix of elegance and chic factor.

This Valentine’s Day, SKIRT presents a 5-course dinner menu (S$350++ for 2) with a bottle of Auris Spumante Brut. Wake your palate up with a trio appetiser, the Titanic – starring the Tuna Tartar with avocado puree that is a brilliant blend of the fish’s freshness and the rich taste of the creamy fruit; luxurious chicken pate accompanied by fragrant homemade roasted chicken crackers; and cured halibut with grapefruit that is a refreshing juxtapose to the first two strong flavours. Quite a myriad of flavours and textures to begin the evening, indeed.

Succeeding the trio is the Casablance that further pays homage to the ocean’s freshness – generous chunks of crab meat with tomato jelly and an apple sphere beautifully set in a martini glass. Moulin Rouge Champagne & Roses will take your breath away – seared scallop covered with champagne foam and rose petals. Nothing quite like celebrating the love in the air with a gorgeous dish like that. Every bite is pleasure to remember.

When Harry met Sally is when we indulge in a main course of Steak Sandwich – Black onyx sirloin with Marrow crumbs, tomato and onion puree. The meat is served medium, and the marrow and bread crumbs complemented the creaminess of the beef so well.

Last but certainly not least, show your date how intricately delicate and poignantly rich your love is via the dessert of 5 textures of chocolate. We really loved the chocolate ice-cream!

Quayside Isle (www.quaysideisle.com) is a destination that Melody and I frequent, and it makes us very happy to return because there is always a place to dine at, no matter what we feel like having.
The romantic setting and the exclusivity of Quayside Isle also makes it a perfect place for celebrations. For those of you who are still undecided about where to go for Chinese New Year and Valentine’s Day, why not discover somewhere for a change? Here are some snippets of Valentine’s Day and Chinese New Year promotions at Quayside Isle.

Blue Lotus – Chinese Eating House

Blue Lotus – Chinese Eating House is the only Chinese restaurant at Quayside Isle, and it offers simple but very well-executed Chinese food. Think classic dishes that are familiar and comforting, yet refined and exquisite with the use of premium ingredients.

For Chinese New Year 2014, Blue Lotus has several CNY set menus available from 13 Jan to 14 Feb 2014, ranging from Happiness (S$88/pax, minimum 4 guests) to Prosperity (S$288++/pax, minimum 10 guests). Among the dishes that we have sampled, the most outstanding ones are the Foie Gras and Wagyu Beef Sang Choy Bow that left us lingering for more, and the signature Pomelo Crab Claw – Blue Lotus’s take on the iconic chilli crab, less the mess.

Blue Lotus opens daily for lunch and dinner during the Chinese New Year period from 30 Jan to 14 Feb 2014 except 31 Jan and 1 Feb 2014.

Yusheng is a must-have dish during Chinese New Year, but most places serve it with the usual ingredients and dressing. Why not try something special this year? Brussels Sprouts has the Poisson Cru Platter – its rendition of a “Belgian” Yusheng. Consisting of turnip, beetroot, Sirop de Liege, peanuts, raspberry vinegar, rollmops and mussels crackers, this Yusheng will definitely stand out among the rest you will be having this year.

Museo

A sexy restaurant that sits on the second level, boasting a panoramic view of Quayside Isle, Museo is among our favourites, and we will tell you just why. Apart from their stylish take on the furniture and tableware, their Valentine’s Dinner menu – available on 13 and 14 Feb 2014 – is that of a spectrum of flavours so beautifully complex, we strongly urge couples to spend the special occasion there.

Following which, enjoy the Three-appetisers Platter, a medley of smoked duck breast, chicken consomme flavoured with cepes mushrooms, and basil cheese baked king oyster. They are all flavourful but the star of the show has definitely got to be the main courses. Choose from Grilled Wagyu Beef Rump and King Prawn in Crispy Kataifi Pastry or Grilled Half Lobster and Chicken Roulade. Dessert is a serving of Tiramisu with almond tuile, panna cotta and mango caviar.

Picotin Express

This well-loved European bistro has an astounding take on the Lunar New Year this year. You are in for a treat with the festive creations of Guoxia Pizza and Lijiang Pizza which are both S$22 each. The former is a bold and unique pairing of roast duck, plum sauce and water chestnut; the latter is Picotin’s rendition of a Chinese-inspired pizza, featuring a brilliant combination of Chinese sausages and spring onions. And in case the tastes do not wow you enough, take delight in the names that are bestowed upon – both are named after Chinese horse breeds in lieu of the celebratory year of the Horse. Talk about paying homage to Chinese traditions!

Quayside Fish Bar & Bistro

One of our favourite places for fresh seafood is Quayside Fish Bar & Bistro.
Highlights of the menu include a starter of oyster platter showcasing oysters prepared in various styles like Ponzu dressing, Mornay, Kilpatrick and Sea Foam and followed by a choice of appetiser – Saffron Seafood Broth featuring king crab, prawn beignet, blue mussels with herb oil or Homemade Lobster Tofu with foie gras jam, bonito flakes and melon gel – to share. Additionally, select a serving of main course each between the interestingly delicious Wrapped Crispy Potato Cod Bouillabaisse with sesame tuile and pumpkin curd or the tender and juicy Char-Grilled Tenderloin with sous vide white asparagus, baby vegetables, apple puree and black truffle reduction. The dessert took our breath away – an unbelievably special Black Ash Pudding which is made of edible charcoal with squid ink and glutinous rice, lavishly topped with dehydrated fruit and raspberry sauce.

Skirt at W Hotel Singapore has been winning raved reviews since opening a few months ago, so I had to check it out to find out for myself. Indeed, the restaurant lives up to the hype, and it has rocketed to become my favourite steak restaurant in Singapore. It is a top-class steakhouse with middle-range pricing.

At the entrance of the restaurant, there are “aging cabinets” which contain choice meats alongside specialty cuts of milk-fed lamb and venison. For those who like to have a drink before having dinner, the bar tucked at one end of the restaurant offers bespoke cocktails. The restaurant itself is elegant and stunning. It is classy, yet not pretentious; it gives off a cool and hip vibe effortlessly.

We started our meal with the Tuna Tartar ($28) with avocado and wasabi; and Iberico Pork Belly with Bean Cassoulet ($20). The former was decent, but unremarkable. The latter saw chunks of pork belly with white beans and carrot in a pork broth made with pork loin and spices like star anise, cinnamon and honey.

Next, we had the delightful Grilled King Prawns ($25) from the grilled picadas menu. Fat, juicy and fresh prawns were split and generously peppered, then put to grill, producing a hint of smokiness and a lot of sweetness for our indulgence.

The Seared US Scallops ($35) – with dashi, apple and Jamon – are what dreams are made of. Plump and meat, they were the easily the biggest scallops I have ever had. This was my favourite starter.

And the highlight of our meal – steaks. Skirt has an impressive selection sourced from Australia and USA: Blackmore Australian Full Blood 9+ Wagyu, Tajima Australian Crossbred Wagyu, Creekstone Farms USDA Corn-fed Black Angus, Cape Grim Australian Grass-fed Angus, and Donald Russell Irish Grass-fed Aberdeen Angus. Prices range from $35++ to $158++, and most of the steaks are priced below $60.

The 250g Blackmore Wagyu Skirt Steak ($48) is one of the most popular options on the menu. We had the Tajima Australian Crossbred Wagyu, a 25 Day Dry Aged Ribeye ($70/140 for 250g/500g). It was a good piece of meat prepared at the highest level. We enjoyed every bite.

The other steak that we tried was the chef’s special ‘Skirt Steak Sandwich’ – a Blackmore Australian Full Blood 9+ Wagyu Tenderloin served with beetroot and Jamon. This was an off-the-menu item which is reserved for regulars and those in-the-know. If you plan to try this dish at your next visit to Skirt, inform the chef and I am sure they will be glad to prepare it for you.

And oh, did I mention about the sides and condiments? Unlike other steakhouses where the sides tend to be over-priced, the ones here are decently priced between $5-12.

The steaks are served with seven condiments – Red Wine & Marrow Sauce, Peppercorn Sauce, Horseradish Cream, Bloody Mary Butter, Cherry Tomato Relish, Blood Orange and Tarragon Bearnaise Red Chimichurri and three kinds of mustard. In addition, they also come with six different types of salt: garlic salt, beef salt, rosemary salt, Hawaiian red salt and smoke salt.

While steaks are the main focus at Skirt, the restaurant also offers quite a few main courses on the menu. The Braised Dorper Lamb Leg ($45), Dover Sole ($50), Cinnamon Poached Maine Lobster ($85) and Iberico Pork Skirt ($40) are tempting options.

We went for Skirt Beef Wellington ($58) because not many restaurants in town do this dish well. Beef tenderloin coated with pate encased in a crispy puff pastry; it was faultless. That said, while Skirt’s rendition was executed perfectly, I am not sure if I would pay for this. I am not a fan of Beef Wellington to begin with. Moreover, some of the steaks on the menu are more appealing and affordable.

The Toasted Honey Meringue ($18) came highly recommended and it did not disappoint. It came in the form of coconut and pineapple ice cream on a digestive biscuit base, topped with a beautiful sheet of pineapple jelly and meringue.

We also had a Warm Venezuelan Chocolate Mud Cake ($18) with poached wild strawberry and tarragon. Other desserts include: White Chocolate Parfait ($18), Chocolate Forest Cake ($18) and Crepes with Dulce de Leche and Chocolate Lava ($15).

A meal at Skirt need not be expensive if you order wisely. Their signature 250g Skirt Steak is only $48, and other affordable cuts include a 250g Irish Grass-fed Sirloin ($35), and the 250g Cape Grim Australian Ribeye ($42). In conclusion: if you love steaks, you must make a trip to Skirt at W Hotel Singapore.

The dining landscape in Singapore has changed remarkably in the last few years and it is exciting to be here at this time.

On the contrary, despite what some people might think, the arrival of big-name-chefs have benefited the food & beverage industry as they provide invaluable experience, and at the same time, they create healthy competition that “forces” other restaurants to up their game.

Over at Osia Restaurant in Resorts World Sentosa, we have Chef Scott Webster from Australia who is a consultant to the restaurant. He plays a big role in influencing the menu along with Chef de Cuisine Douglas Tay.

The restaurant has recently started a ‘Cooking with Friends’ series, where Chef Scott Webster would invite his chef friends to cook in Singapore. For the first instalment back in July, Chef Chris Taylor from Perth created a delectable menu with inspirations from Western Australia, including yellow tail kingfish, sea urchin roe, and truffle.

The theme of our meal: fresh Western Australia flavour.

We started with a ceviche of yellow tail kingfish with a lemon olive dressing.

Next up was the Manjimup winter truffle and porcini mushroom soup with truffle cream. It was a soul warming dish. I wish they would put this on the ala carte menu.

For main course, we had a golden spiced fillet of red sea bream on black dahl, pan fried gnnochi with goat cheese, and lamb shoulder slow cooked with walnut and chick peas. Then we ended the meal with a lovely Valrhona chocolate tart, served with espresso ice cream.

These dishes were prepared specifically for the week while chef was in town, so you won’t find them on the regular menu. But with Chef de Cuisine Douglas Tay at the helm, the food is always good at Osia (especially the flat bread, duo of Tasmanian lamb, and Valrhona hot chocolate soup).

If you are looking for a romantic restaurant to celebrate a special occasion, Osia Restaurant at Resorts World Sentosa should be at the top of your list.

With the opening of the Resorts World Sentosa (RWS), we have seen the addition of a dozen new restaurants to the Singapore food scene. While it is good that we have more options now, deciding on a place for dinner can also be quite a headache.

We were choosing between Starz Restaurant (Hard Rock Hotel) and Fiesta Restaurant (Festive Hotel), and we went for the latter because I’ve heard about their BBQ buffet.

Unfortunately, we were there on a Wednesday and the BBQ buffet dinner is only available from Fridays to Sundays. On weekdays, Fiesta has a semi-buffet dinner where the appetiser and dessert buffet is included in the price of a main course.

It was getting late and we didn’t want to find another restaurant, so we settled for the semi-buffet and ordered from the ala carte menu.

I know we shouldn’t complain about the complimentary appetiser/dessert buffet since we are only paying the price of the main course, but they were pathetic. It makes me wonder why the restaurant even bother to offer the semi-buffet in the first place.

That said, the main courses which we had were pretty decent.

There are eleven dishes on Fiesta’s ala carte menu, and it has a good mix to satisfy everyone. Meat lovers will be tempted by the Ribeye ($32), Pineapple Pork Ribs ($32) and Grilled Spring Chicken ($38). I find it funny that the chicken is actually more expensive than the steak. That aside, other interesting choices include the Feijoada ($32) – traditional Brazilian black bean stew with pork & beef; and the Brazilian mix platter ($36) – combination of sausage, ribeye steak and spring chicken.

As we were in a big group, we managed to try quite a few dishes. Most of them were not bad, but they were not outstanding enough for me to stop and really take notice of it.

I might go back to Fiesta Restaurant to try the BBQ buffet dinner ($55++/pax) from Fridays to Sundays, but if I am at Resorts World Sentosa on weekdays, I’d probably give the ala carte menu a miss.

Tanjong Beach Club (TBC) by the Lo & Behold Group is the perfect place to escape from the city and enjoy a day of sun, sand and sea. It has a restaurant (The Dining Room), a bar and a pool facing the beach.

The Dining Room at Tanjong Beach Club offers a unique beach dining experience, and after dinner, you can laze by the pool and enjoy a Tanjong Martini with truffle fries. The beach house at Sentosa is modern, sexy and definitely the place to see and be seen.

The crowd at Tanjong Beach Club is quite diverse. From the beach goers in cargo shorts, bikinis and flip flops, lazing by the pool side during the weekends; to young working executives on a romantic dinner date; to well-heeled cliente with an appreciation for the finer things in life – there is a good mix of crowd.

Since it was a Friday night, we had a glass of champagne each. Actually, even if it wasn’t a Friday night, I’d still have a glass of champagne.

As usual, we had a hard time trying to decide on the dishes. So we took the easy way out and asked for recommendations. On my own, I probably would not order a salad, but the Bean Salad ($19) came highly recommended so we started with that.

We followed up with the Salt-cured Foie Gras ($27), which I thought was pretty cool. The goose liver was served with toasted brioche, kaya and house-made jam. Eaten together, the cold foie gras combination was quite amazing. But I would very much prefer to have pan seared foie gras.

The best, however, had yet to come – we had the freaking awesome truffle fries. Having heard so much about Tanjong Beach Club’s popular bar snack – which my friend proclaimed as the best truffle fries in Singapore – I wasn’t prepared to leave the place without trying it.

The bar menu isn’t available in the dining room, and vice versa. Still, we managed to convince the waitress to serve us the truffle fries while waiting for the rest of the appetisers to be served.

The dining room at Tanjong Beach Club has a good mix for its main course menu. We were tempted by the Crispy Atlantic Cod ($42) and the Spicy Crab Spaghetti ($32); while the Roasted Kurobuta Pork ($43) and Asparagus Risotto ($26) also called out to us. We eventually settled for the Maine Lobster Pot Pie ($58) and USDA Prime New York Strip Steak ($58).

Encased by flaky pastry crust, the lobster pot pie was quite a visual treat for the senses. We watched as the waitress poked a hole into the crust and unearthed the lobster from within. It was like digging for treasure!

The USDA Prime New York Strip Steak ($58) came with potato puree, roasted mushroom, and smoked eggplant. It was a gorgeous piece of meat, but unfortunately, it was way too salty.

We used the elimination method to choose our desserts. Since we weren’t keen on the Mixed Berry Bowl and ice cream, it was down to the Coconut Panna Cotta ($14), Chocolate Ganache Tart ($16) and Tea & Honey Parfeit ($14). We decided to leave the Panna Cotta for another day and had the other two desserts to end off the meal.

I thought that the Chocolate Ganache Tart – which was accompanied by salted candied hazelnuts, butterscotch sauce and vanilla bean ice cream – was pretty fabulous.

The Tea & Honey Parfeit ($14) came in a pretty glass of earl grey crémeux, honey ice cream, house-made honeycomb and chocolate crisp.

The Dining Room at Tanjong Beach Club (TBC) is a great option if you want a nice romantic dinner away from the city. The food is not out-of-this-world good, so don’t come here expecting a life-changing experience. Instead, come here if you want a unique beach-dining experience. The TBC, is after all, one of the few Beach restaurants in Singapore.

I will definitely go back for brunch during weekends.

Il Lido Italian Dining at Sentosa Golf Club is a restaurant that has consistently been voted as one of the best restaurants in Singapore, and it is frequently praised for the quality of Italian food.

Compared to its sister restaurant, Forlino at One Fullerton, il lido Italian restaurant is slightly more casual – think of it as a semi fine dining restaurant that comes with everything you would expect from a top-notch restaurant.

With new Chef de cuisine Alessandro Delfanti taking over the helm in the kitchen, the italian restaurant has recently revamped its entire menu. It now focuses on mainly seasonal and native produce from Italy and Europe.

We entered the restaurant through a narrow walkway at the side of the Sentosa Golf Club entrance. The interior of the Italian restaurant has a dark and sexy tone, while the al fresco dining area comes with a nice sea-breeze, making it the perfect place to have a romantic dinner at night.

Like Forlino, Il Lido has thoughtfully provided beautiful stools for putting our bags. It is simple gestures as such that make a difference. We started off our meal with some bread, eagerly anticipating what the chef would come up with.

Eating is a lot more fun when you have someone who appreciates good food, loves having desserts first and has a huge appetite. My dining companion and I had two appetisers, one pasta, one risotto, two main courses and three desserts.

There are around 10 items on Il Lido’s antipasti menu and we had a hard time trying to decide on them as all of them seemed to be screaming “EAT ME”. Among them, I was attracted by the Pan-roasted Goose Liver with Figs, Vincotto Sauce and Rosemary Oil ($32), but then again, I always have, and always will love foie gras.

We were recommended the Venison Carpaccio with Roman Zucchini and Smoked Ricotta Cheese ($25). Instead of the typical beef carpaccio, Il Lido serves a Venison version and it was outstanding.

I would have ordered the classic Parma Ham with rock melon ($26), but we decided to try something different, so we had the Sea Scallops with Chanterelle Mushrooms and Blueberries ($28). Seared with tiny criss-crossing grilled marks on the surface, the scallops were meaty and very fresh. The use of blueberries gave the otherwise ordinary dish a refreshing twist and the accompany mushrooms were also very tasty.

Il Lido Italian restaurant has two types of risotto on the menu: Basil & Pecorino Cheese Risotto with Crispy Bacon ($35) and Baby Squid Risotto with Black Ink Sauce and Chili Peppers ($38). We had the latter, but I thought that it was only decent.

If I were with a larger group of people, I would have ordered the Tagliatelle with Rabbit & Marjoram Ragout ($38), but we only had two stomachs so we stuck with the Veal Agnolotti with Mushrooms and Truffle Cream ($38) – which came highly recommended.

We were told that the chef actually put a frozen veal juice cube within the ravioli to ensure the moistness and flavour. I’m sure I wouldn’t have been able to eat an entire bowl of ravioli on my own, so make sure you order this to share.

For main course, I wanted to get the Black Angus Beef Tenderloin ($58) but the manager suggested the Pan-roasted Cod with Smoked Caviar Sauce and Whipped Potatoes ($45), saying that it’s very good (although I’m quite positive that he thinks everything on the menu is good). I’m happy to say that it was excellent. The whipped potatoes, in particular, were quite interesting – you could taste the potato without the heaviness of it.

I don’t usually order chicken in a restaurant nowadays, but hey, this is a Guinea Fowl Supreme with Goose Liver and Apricot Sauce ($56) that we are talking about. It was slightly tougher than chicken, and the apricot sauce managed to bring out the flavour of the meat. However, I am not sure if I’d pay so much for a meat that has a flavour similar to chicken. The other meats on Il Lido’s menu like Suckling Pig Saddle ($58) and Wagyu Beef Cheek ($45) are more appealing to me.

That said, the Guinea fowl remains a rarity on menus in Singapore, and if you’ve never tried it before, this is a good place to start.

We were told that Il Lido’s tiramisu ($15) is probably not the best in Singapore, but we decided to go ahead and have it as my dining companion was craving for it. Only a foolish guy would stand between a girl and her craving. And true enough, the tiramisu was only decent.

Thankfully, the Molten Lava Chocolate Cake with Yogurt Ice cream ($18) was pretty good. The ubiquitous Chocolate lava cake was so pretty that I thought it would be a shame to dig a hole into it, but that feeling quickly passed and I poked it with a spoon. Molten chocolate oozed out, and slowly, it covered the entire top of the cake.

The pairing of the slightly yogurt ice cream with the chocolate cake was a good decision; the sourish yogurt cut through the sweetness of the chocolate, giving it a perfect balance.

Among the three desserts that we had, the Vanilla Crème Brûlée with Blueberries ($15) was our favourite. The inclusion of berries within the crème brûlée was a lovely surprise. Every few bites or so, you would hit a pocket of blueberries. Lovely.

In terms of the overall dining experience, Il Lido Italian restaurant at Sentosa Golf Club is easily one of the best restaurants in Singapore.

I don’t think they have the best Italian food in Singapore (my favourite is still Ristorante Da Valentino), but I do think that it is a great all-round restaurant, with the right combination of good food, ambience and service.
