Loof is one of Singapore’s first rooftop bars and takes pride in its quirky local selection of Southeast Asian inspired cocktails and bar food that features local flavours.

Their time at Odeon Towers will draw to a close due to upcoming building renovations and the last day of service at Odeon Towers will be 27 Feb 2022 after being around for 17 years.

There is a certain exclusivity about the place, especially at night when neighbouring office buildings close by turn off their lights and the only thing illuminating the night sky is their iconic neon sign. Beautiful, casual and a fun place to hang out, Loof easily tops our list.

Fans of Loof will be happy to hear that it is set to return as soon as they find themselves a new home.

Sky Lido is a new rooftop bar & bistro that has opened up in Outram during the last Phase 2 HA. Located on level 5 of Concorde Shopping Centre, Sky Lido—a 6,000 sq ft open rooftop space—offers unobstructed views of the River Valley and Robertson Quay neighbourhoods.

The new rooftop bar & bistro is helmed by executive Chef Gabriel Cher who has over 18 years of experience in the F&B industry at establishments that include Klapsons The Boutique Hotel, and most recently as the Head Chef of Potatohead Folk.

OUE Downtown Gallery is one of our favourite hangout spots in the heart of town—there are endless dining options—such as The Autobus, Lunar Coffee Brewers and Omotesando Koffee—that leaves us spoilt for choice when we are feeling peckish.

Adding onto the long list of dining options is a relatively new vegan dining concept that has popped up in the mall—HRVST. Pronounced as ‘harvest’, this is one stylish cafe that will catch the fancy of all health and gym junkies.

The kitchen is helmed by a pair of partner chefs, Addis Tan and Dylan who have 20 years of experience working for established F&B names such as Tippling Club, Esquina and Cheek by Jowl.

Located just beside Kilter Avenue (a boutique gym), HRVST aims to redefine your expectations of vegan food—using only the freshest ingredients they can source and turning them into aesthetically pleasing dishes that do not compromise on taste at all.

While HRVST mainly gets their produce from reliable suppliers, they also make use of the edible garden outside the cafe for some of their dishes. Take a walk around the open rooftop garden where you can temporarily escape from the hustle of the city.

A favourite among their diners, the Sourdough with Orange-Glazed Grilled Tofu (S$16++) is a great brunch or lunch option that is appetising and wholesome.

Tuck into the dish and let your taste buds discover the layers of flavours and textures that come from the sourdough, nut spread, soft tofu, broccoli and cauliflower florets that are doused in kelp stock and pickled zucchini ribbons.

For those who are attempting vegan food for the first time, their BKT Barley Risotto (S$16++) will impress you it does replicate the original dish well—in terms of the oily texture (thanks to the garlic and coriander oil) and taste.

We were pleasantly surprised that all the spices of what you would expect from a regular bak kut teh were there sans the meat, of course. Instead, what diners can expect from this dish is diced fried daikon, pink radish, braised nuts and thin dough crisp that will remind you of you tiao.

We had the Matcha Ice Cream (S$8++) which was complemented with a touch of blood orange puree, poached plums and pistachio bits. To be completely frank, we still prefer our normal creamy matcha ice cream but the cafe’s vegan rendition wasn’t too lacklustre either as the ice cream was rich with matcha flavours.

On top of those that we have tried, HRVST’s straightforward menu also includes other dishes such as Pumpkin Fettucine (S$16++), Hay Salt Baked Celeriac (S$18++) and desserts including Caramelised Pineapple Ring (S$8++) and Blackforest Cake (S$8++).

Head right to the rooftop of Sofitel So Singapore and you will be greeted by a beautiful pool, surrounded by skyscrapers and office buildings in the Central Business District. Hi-So Rooftop Bar is a poolside bar in the hotel, and it is like a playground in the midst of the concrete jungle.

You can rest and relax on one of the sofa seats “cabana-style”, and sip on a tropical cocktail. Snap a few Outfit of The Day (#ootd) shots in this photogenic rooftop bar, too.

With the bright crimson sign that is synonymous with the bar’s names, Loof has always been popular and we lost track of how many times we saw a photo of the sign on our Instagram feed.

The entire place sure is photo-worthy – from the sleek bar to the casual seating area. Although the lighting at Loof is pretty dim and uneven, a photo as such is possible with the Canon Powershot G5 X. The signature low light feature had us snapping away with ease!

#6 MISCHIEF

When Mischief took over its predecessor’s place at Esplanade, we were wondering if the restaurant-bar would garner enough crowds to sustain itself. But the brainchild of Mediacorp artistes Cynthia Koh and Michelle Chong and ex-Radio Jockey Daniel Ong is one place with really great deals on their beer and house pours.

We love Mischief for their low-hanging fairy lights and multi-coloured chairs – perfect for some portraits, or wefie moments with friends. Here’s a tip – you can hold up your food or drinks against the fairy lights for a blurred out (bokeh) effect. That will be a gorgeous photo there!

The alfresco rooftop terrace at The Fullerton Waterboat House is the best place to savour the beautiful night skyline Singapore has to offer. TWG Tea Salon & Boutique

TWG Tea Salon has probably replaced Marmalade Pantry as the most popular atas cafe for rich tai-tai (wealthy married woman who does not work) to have afternoon tea. Its crown jewel at Marina Bay Sands is one of the most popular see and be seen places.

I am always good at finding the best places to eat, but when it comes to drinks, I am lucky to have a group of friends who are familiar with the Best Bars in Singapore. To most people, alcohol is very important, but I always prefer eating to drinking.

Together with Cafe Fables and A Thousand Tales (vintage furniture store), Bar Stories is a funky bar nestled within a shop house in Haji Lane. Apparently Cafe Fables operates in the day, and it transforms into Bar Stories when nightfall arrives.

Depending on individual preferences, the mixologists will create different cocktails right before your eyes. It was very interesting to watch them prepare each drink with different ingredients and liqueur – it felt like watching a performance.

The drinks at Bar Stories are very unique, and quite unlike the usual ones that you get from other bars. They use fresh food for every cocktail, so there is no artificial colouring.

I was tempted to reply “surprise me” when Jeff the mixologist asked me to make my order. Since it was my first time there, I decided to play safe and told him I like anything-sweet. He whipped out the Honeydew Sake Martini ($22, see above picture) in an instance, and I really enjoyed it.

My friends had the Midori Sour ($22) – a gorgeous shade of light green, pretty to look at and pleasant to drink; the Absinthe Forward Martini ($25) which had a heavy dosage of Absinthe & Gin and smacked us right in the face; and the Kyoho Grapes Martini ($25), a cheerful red mixture that made us rather gigglish. I don’t know about you, but pretty colours always make cocktails nicer to drink.

Gusttimo di Roma is first and foremost an ice cream place at Ion Orchard, sitting at the opposite end to Sephora Singapore. While they may not have the best service, Gusttimo’s Happy Hour house pours are priced at $6 per drink from 6pm to 9pm, and there’s also 1-for-1 beer all night long.

Prelude is an open-air rooftop bar on the Boathouse at Fullerton.
