Famous Hong Kong Wonton Mee Mak’s Noodle is closing its last outlet in Singapore at The Centrepoint on 28 Feb 2021.

Mak’s Noodle is well-loved by food connoisseurs from all over the world, who return regularly for the restaurant’s legendary wonton noodles.

Coined as one of Hong Kong’s best dining destinations, Mak’s Noodle has been a mandatory attraction on every gourmand’s checklist, and we are no exception. We saw ourselves returning to the renowned eatery even on our umpteenth Hong Kong trip.

Mak’s Noodle Singapore has announced on their Instagram page that they will be ending their business operations by the end of Feb 2021.

Mak’s Noodle first opened in Singapore back in 2015, but they are unable to come to an agreement for the lease renewal with the mall management.

It is unfortunate that Mak’s Noodle will be closing the last outlet in Singapore. Do drop by to satisfy your wonton mee craving before they close for good on 28 Feb 2021.

The Salted Plum is closing both outlets at Circular Road and Suntec City on 13 Dec 2020.

Known for its affordable Taiwanese-style meals and Taiwanese “tapas” that are priced at S$5, S$10 and S$15, The Salted Plum is one of our go-to places for Taiwanese food in Singapore and we are sad to share this announcement.

The modern Taiwanese concept specialises in Taiwanese street food—from favourites such as Braised Pork Belly, Braised Pig Intestines and Taiwanese Sausage Patties to other interesting options including the likes of Salted Pork and Oyster Steamed Egg.

The Salted Plum has been around for 4 years and it suddenly announced the closure of both outlets on Facebook on 10 Dec 2020.

Fans of The Salted Plum have three more days to enjoy their Lu Rou Fan and other Taiwanese street food before their last day of operations on 13 Dec 2020.

Sum Yi Tai—which houses 3 concepts over 3 storeys in a conservation shophouse—is another Covid-19 casualty.

Sum Yi Tai was a popular hangout spot in the CBD which offered dim sum lunch and tapas-style dishes in a crimson-lit gangland bar. It has shut down its establishment at 25 Boon Tat Street because of the high rental in the CBD.

Conceptualised to pay tribute to the decadent glamour of 1980s Hong Kong, Sum Yi Tai (meaning “Third Wife” in Cantonese) propels traditional Chinese cuisine into the realm of designer bars.

For fans of Sum Yi Tai, it is not goodbye forever, yet. They are looking to move to another location in the near future.

Yoogane Singapore has closed its last outlet in Singapore at Westgate on 1 Nov 2020.

Probably the most popular chicken galbi restaurant in South Korea, Yoogane opened to much fanfare when it first arrived in Singapore but the business slowly died down over the years.

It is such a shame because we have always loved Yoogane’s highly-acclaimed chicken galbi and we will no longer get to eat it in Singapore.

In Yoogane Singapore’s Facebook announcement, they claimed that they will be back once they’ve found a suitable location. Yoogane Singapore has also closed Bugis Junction, 313@somerset, nex and Tampines Mall over the past two years.

Accordingly to Facebook user Daniel Chia, Yet Con Chicken Rice’s iron hate was firmly shut when he was there today and the iconic red Yet Con decals on the front door had been removed. Mr Daniel Chia checked with Chin Chin Eating House—Yet Con’s neighbour across the street—and the reply from them was “they were closed, for now.”

It remains to be seen if Yet Con Chicken Rice will reopen again. We are definitely keeping our fingers crossed that this is not the end of another heritage restaurant in Singapore.

Eateries have been struggling to make ends meet and despite many of them still allowing takeaway or delivery, it is not always enough.

So, it isn’t surprising that a number of these dining establishments have had to shut their doors and leave Singapore’s F&B industry. Over the past few months, we’ve heard of the closing of a number of reputable restaurants across our little red dot and it is truly heartbreaking.

Just recently, there have been rumours that Stärker Group has become one of the next casualties of the pandemic. Are these, however, true? We will find out by 10 June 2020.

For a little context, the Stärker Group owns a chain of German bistros and restaurants that specialises in German-style fresh beer and hearty sharing platters that you can enjoy with some live music.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>//

The Stärker Group has put a notice up on their social media platforms stating that they are temporarily closed during the pandemic period, but there have been no updates since, which has caused plenty of speculation.

We’ve recently discovered that a “Notice of Creditors Meeting” under section 209 of the Companies Act has been put up for “Stärker Brewery Pte. Ltd” and “Stärker F&B Pte. Ltd.”, and that a fully electronic meeting conducted by video-conference will decide their fate. This meeting will be held on 10 June 2020 at 3pm and 4pm and will discuss the company’s affairs, estimate amounts of creditors’ claims, appointing a liquidator, appointing a committee of inspection and any other business.

If you love Japanese food and have been a huge fan of Isetan’s popular Japan Food Town at Wisma Atria, you’d be sad to know that the place has closed down due to non-payment issues.

Isetan has officially issued them a notice to quit and their tenancy has since been terminated.

The 20, 075 square feet food hall on the 4th level of Isetan Singapore at Wisma Atria was home to 16 restaurants. Each of these offered a plethora of well-curated Japanese dishes at wallet-friendly prices.

Well patronised by both locals and Japanese who wanted a taste of home, the food hall provided diners with a taste of authentic Japanese cuisine without having to leave sunny Singapore.

It’s a shame that they’ve closed down as the entire concept, in our opinion, was well thought out, and the featured restaurants did serve some really good food.
