I do think that the 1-course menu is truly a fantastic deal. Your friend and you pay only $6/pax (after tax and service charge) for a main course, which is almost the same price as compared to a meal in a food court.

Ciki and I were bar-hopping after our dinner at Ippudo Ramen, and before going to our second stop at Orgo Bar, we decided to have some snacks at Tomo Izakaya, Esplanade Mall.

The Japanese casual dining restaurant has an original outlet at Clarke Quay, and they serve a variety of small dishes together with Japanese beers and sake.

Izakaya is a term referring to a Japanese drinking establishment that’s focused on drinks, but like many bars, serves food so that you will not drink on an empty stomach.

Besides the branch at Esplanade, folks working in the Marina Bay area will also be happy to know that they have a new sister restaurant – Akari Dining & Bar – at Marina Bay Link Mall.

Looking at Tomo Izakaya’s menu, the dishes are standard to any usual Japanese restaurants – Sushi ($8-20), Sashimi ($18 upwards), Makimono ($4.5-12.5), Kushiyaki ($5-12/skewer), Agemono ($7.5-18), and Udon/Soba ($10).

As we already had dinner, we ordered mostly skewers like Okura Bacon ($7) and Enkoi Bacon ($8.5), as well as Tori Karaage ($10). The food that we ordered was decent, nothing exceptionally fantastic, but good enough to go along with our sake.

A good place to hang out with colleagues after work for drinks and a simple dinner. Tomo Izakaya at Esplanade also has an ala carte buffet lunch (12pm – 2.30pm daily) for $23.8++, which includes around 25 to 30 items like sushi, sashimi and others. I’d probably drop by to try the buffet when I am craving for Japanese food.

Regular readers will know that I am a fan of Paradise Pavilion at Marina Bay Financial Centre. Not only is it one of the most gorgeous Chinese restaurants in town, it also serves Chinese food of unimpeachable quality. I have been to Paradise Pavilion on several occasions, and they have always maintained a high standard.

Paradise Pavilion on level 2 of Marina Bay Link Mall has an excellent view of the Marina Bay area – definitely the place to go to watch fireworks on National Day, New Year’s Eve and Chinese New Year.

There is only one word to describe Max Brenner’s Chocolate Souffle – addictive.

It may seem like an ordinary chocolate dessert, but it is much more than that. Put it in front a bunch of rowdy kids and you will have silence immediately. Magic.

Try it out by placing the molten chocolate cake in front of a group of adults, and they will be admiring it like kids in Disney land. But do make sure that there’s enough for everyone, otherwise you will be looking at the ugly side of human beings instantly.

Ever since the last visit to Max Brenner Chocolate Bar, I am not ashamed to say that I have been thinking about it regularly. Day and night. Night and day.

“Shall we go to Max Brenner again?”

I’m not going to try and describe it, because there’s hardly any vocabulary that will do it justice. Max Brenner names this as a chocolate souffle, but it is actually a chocolate lava cake. After finishing the dessert, we sighed, and moaned and wished that we could order a second serving.

Lets face it, EVERYBODY loves 1-for-1 dining promotion! Be it a 1-for-1 pasta lunch deal, 50% off ala carte menu or a 1-for-1 buffet promotion (by making use of the credit cards dining promotion), what’s there not to like when we get to enjoy the restaurant’s usual offering at half the price?

I have not been to any of the selected ten restaurants at Esplanade Mall, but I have always taken an interest to Barossa Australian restaurant as some of my friends mentioned that they have one of the best fish & chips in Singapore. Am I tempted by their 1-for-1 fish & chips at $18++? Hell yes!

With 1-for-1 lunch choices of Tandoori wrap, spaghetti prawn Aglio Olio, Portobello burger or fish & chips at just $25 nett, I think there’s a high chance that I will check out Harry’s @ Esplanade very soon!
