The Dark Gallery is a popular chocolate-themed cafe from Malaysia that specialises in all things chocolate and good news—they have just opened their first outlet outside of Malaysia at Millenia Walk.

Expect to savour a wide variety of chocolate desserts from artisanal ice creams to pastries to truffles to the best hot chocolate you will ever taste at this chocolate-themed establishment. The sheer decadence from the chocolate goodies makes The Dark Gallery every chocolate lover’s dream and a must-try for all.

If you find yourself overwhelmed by the immense variety of chocolate types, feel free to approach the staff. They will be more than happy to educate you on the different types of chocolates

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

We found it rather helpful as it gave us a better understanding of what we were having, allowing us to better appreciate the subtleties in flavours from chocolate sourced from different parts of the world.

The Ice Cream Waffle (S$14) comes with two ice cream flavours of your choice. We went for two different dark chocolate varietals with cocoa percentages from both extremes—the Madagascar Dark Chocolate (64%) and the Venezuela Dark Chocolate (72%).

Both flavours of ice cream were so incredibly decadent and we liked that they were not overly rich and sweet. The Madagascar Dark Chocolate struck a perfect balance between sweet, bitter and chocolatey, whereas the Venezuela Dark Chocolate was just slightly bitter in comparison. It was the best chocolate ice cream we have ever had.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

We started off with the elemen Starter – a trio of green bean paste with cucumber and teriyaki sauce, sesame tofu with sesame dressing and alfalfa sprouts and lastly, cherry tomato soaked in plum sauce that bursts upon bite.

We could all taste the strong Japanese flavours and influences in the starting appetiser and could not wait for our main course to come. It is one of those rare moments in life where we were truly excited about vegetarian food.

We were each served a tasting portion of elemen’s bestselling ‘Main’ – Mushroom Risotto with Black Truffle.

This risotto is not made the conventional way and has a interesting textural variety from the vegetables and rice itself. The truffle flavours were pleasant and really enhanced the dish.

Some readers loved it so much, they had more than one serving! And so did we. Oops! Couldn’t help it, really. You have to try this for yourself to believe it.

We ended off with a dessert and their specialty drink. Our dessert of Chilled Coconut Puree was the best-selling one in the restaurant. True to its hype, the rich coconut puree was complemented with a scoop of peach gum, said to have the same beauty benefits as bird’s nest! Such a treat it was, and once again, most of us had a second helping!

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

And a cup of specially-concocted Sea Salt Coffee ended our meal at elemen; the sea salt really brought out the nutty flavours of their coffee and we were all pleasantly surprised by how drinkable it was despite its intense caffeine.

By this time, we were almost full, but not before we had our decadent tarts from Tart Blanc, an artisanal dessert cafe that specializes in French-style tarts.

Every tart from Tart Blanc is made with extreme intricacy and all of us were eyeing the tarts, even before we settled down.

We had two of Tart Blanc’s specialty tarts – Blood Orange Matcha Tart and Peach and Salted Egg Yolk Tart. The latter was served to us warm for the optimal taste.

We were so amazed by the use of salted egg yolk and peach in one tart; it was a lethal combination that got us hooked. We really loved everything about it. From the slightly gushing and creamy salted egg yolk center to the butter crust, everyone was happily gobbling these tarts up and they were practically gone within seconds!

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

The Blood Orange Matcha tart has long been one of the most popular tarts at Tart Blanc and it came as no surprise that it was well-received. All of us enjoyed the tart and acidity of the blood orange center, evened out by the crusty matcha tart base.

It was an unforgettable afternoon of non-stop eating with all our readers and we hoped you had as much fun as we did. We are ever thankful of all the support from you lovely people.

And from now till 31 Oct 2015, you too, can embark on a culinary adventure and create your very own food journey at Millenia Walk with the various deals that the restaurants are offering. You can find out more details here.

Everyone places emphasis on Mother’s Day, and every child goes to great lengths to express their love for the women of their lives. And while mothers are more than noble, we must not forget the man of the family – Fathers.

With Father’s Day round the corner, should we all also set aside some time to pamper our dads and to remind them of how much we love them? Sure, Dad may not be a fan of shopping, but we would like to think that he just needs to be brought to the right shops and he would be happy as a lark.

With Millenia Walk being the top-of-mind choice for shopping, delectable dining choices and quality home products, why not bring Dad there for a day of pampering? It won’t be just shopping, because the way to a man’s heart is through his tummy, yes? Eat your day away, shop a little, and it will put a smile on Dad’s face.

We went on a hunt and sussed out many great options that fathers will love. Here is how to spend a day at Millenia Walk to pamper Dad this Father’s Day:

BREAKFAST AT PATISSERIE G

Start your day at Millenia Walk with a breakfast at Patisserie G. Apart from their usual delectable desserts, it is marvellous to know that Patisserie G now dishes out hearty savoury dishes too.

The Scrambled Eggs (S$15) is served with a side of freshly baked croissant or toasted brioche soldiers. But what stole our hearts was the Eggs Cocotte (S$16) that is served with toasted brioche soldiers – warm, comforting, and surprisingly very filling!

Purchase any serving of eggs and receive a free 250ml bottle of fresh fruit juice.

LUNCH AT SABOTEN

Saboten is a household favourite for its consistency and affordable price point. The menu is well-rounded with meat and seafood options, but the star dish is the Iberico Katsu Gozen (S$28.00). We can never get enough of the beautiful, golden brown beauty.

SCRUMPTIOUS ITALIAN DINNER AT BEL MONDO

End off the day with a scrumptious Italian dinner at Bel Mondo, where the chef has specially created two dishes for Father’s Day 2015. Treat Dad to the Octopus Carpaccio in potato vinaigrette (S$24++) – this is our favourite. We always love a good carpaccio, but they are ubiquitously fish and beef. An octopus variation is a nice change, indeed.

Then, there is the Sautéed Venison Chop (S$58++) that is dressed with sweet potato fries and spinach in red wine sauce and apples. You guessed it – we wolfed this down. To let you in a little, the Italian chef spent half his life cooking meat, and he is certainly very experienced in cooking game meat.

Maybe you have heard about the vast dining options at Millenia Walk – they’ve got all sorts of cuisines there, from German to Italian and even Swiss. But do you know that it is also a little Nippon there?

Yes, the Japanese dining options at Millenia Walk will actually take you by surprise. From the new brands to the evergreen and to the upcoming, the mall offers a variety of Japanese restaurants for you to take a nosh at, and we promise you will never see Millenia Walk the same way again.

We share with you some of the finer Japanese options that we covet, and why you should also swing by Millenia Walk for a delightful dining experience. And, in the month of April, there is a series of promotions all lined up and ready to excite, too.

Here is our guide to Millenia Walk’s Japanese restaurants.

[ Giveaway ] We are giving away 3 X S$50 Millenia Walk dining vouchers. Leave a comment below, and share this post on your Facebook timeline to win. More details on the giveaway at the end of this post.

MIHARU SAPPORO RAMEN

The first few brands that we fell in love with when the ramen trend hit Singapore was Miharu Sapporo Ramen. It used to sit along Robertson Quay, at Gallery Hotel. When the hotel ceased operations, Miharu fans were left upset and deprived of their favourite Sapporo ramen. However the good news is that NOW, they are exclusively at Millenia Walk and you can enjoy a bowl of Miharu’s goodness!

Rejoice, ramen fans! The outlet at Millenia Walk is slightly bigger and very comfortable, while your favourite ramen with the famous Nishiyama noodles specially imported from Japan, and rich miso broth is still flavourful as always. Our favourite ramen is most definitely the Tokusen Miso Ramen with a special miso blend (S$14.80++).

Celebrate “All Things Japanese Fridays” and enjoy two bowls of ramen at only S$20++, applicable for shoyu and miso ramen.

PULLMAN BAKERY

Looking to grab a quick breakfast or some bread to take home after work or just to snack during the day? Pullman Bakery is your answer. We love this Hokkaido bakery for its premium offerings of breads and cakes.

The Hokkaido Curry Bun (S$2.50) is its bestseller, and because the curry paste is air-flown from Hokkaido in limited quantities, these buns are often snapped up by midday. Fastest fingers first, so we’d say: grab it in the morning while it is still warm and steamy on the inside – definitely your perfect breakfast on the go. Also, try the Bacon Egg (S$2.30), Raisin Walnut Milk Stick (S$2) and Premium Toast Type Rich (S$4.30 for half a loaf).

Bring your kids (<12yo) along on Saturdays and they will receive a bag of cookies for free when Daddy and Mommy make a purchase of S$10 and above.

RAKUZEN JAPANESE RESTAURANT

Now, Rakuzen is a hidden gem! This Japanese restaurant at Millenia Walk has an amazing variety in its menu that is pleasantly affordable. We are regulars, and as much as we’d love to keep this place a selfish secret, we know it deserves your attention. Their set lunches in particular are very value for money!

There is this highly popular Maru Bento set that is enough for two to share. It consists of yasai tempura, sashimi, a plate of sushi assortment, chicken stew, grilled unagi, chawanmushi and a side salad and dessert- all these at only S$45++! And if you are game for some maki rolls, the Aburi Beef Roll ($18++) is the absolute crowning glory!

TEPPEI SYOKUDO

Teppei first rose to fame with its super value-for-money chirashi-don at its nondescript outlet in Tanjong Pagar. Long lines have often formed during lunch hours, but not all are fans of queueing. Let’s do a takeaway instead!

Over at Millenia Walk, Teppei Syokudo is a hassle-free outlet where you can choose to eat in the outlet or takeaway your favourite sashimi rice bowl, and it is simply perfect for days when you need to pack lunch back to the office. Everyone’s favourite Kaisen-don is at S$16 for a serving, and you can top up S$8 for some chopped negitoro (tuna with spring onions). But if you do not want raw fish, sure, there is the Katsu-don (S$15.80) and Saba Miso Bento (S$12.80).

TOMI SUSHI

Tomi Sushi is an under-the-radar Japanese restaurant that has been around for a while. We love its simplicity, and it is one restaurant that we often turn to when we need some fuss-free Japanese food. While there is nothing too lavish about having a meal at Tomi, you can still expect hearty servings at friendly price tags for a decent Japanese meal.

Outback Steakhouse, the largest steakhouse chain in the world, is a household name and its flagship store at Millenia Walk has been in Singapore since 2000. Known to serve reasonably-priced steaks and mains in a casual ambience with friendly service, Outback Steakhouse never goes out of fashion, and we really love its menu; it is much more comprehensive than we thought, and even if you are not a fan of steaks, you will be spoilt for choice with its array of mains. They have a fantastic range of cocktails as well! Martinis and Ribeye; how wonderful life is.

We swung by its newest outlet at orchardgateway, and sampled many signature dishes. Here are 10 things we love about Outback Steakhouse at orchardgateway.

SIRLOIN, RIBEYE, PRIME RIBS, NEW YORK STRIP… OUTBACK STEAKHOUSE IS A HEAVEN FOR STEAK LOVERS

Let’s just go straight to the point: steaks take center stage at Outback Steakhouse. From the well-marbled Ribeye (S$37.90/10oz) to slow-roasted Seasoned and Seared Prime Rib (S$37.90/10oz, S$39.90/12oz), and the much-loved Outback Special (S$27.90/6oz, S$31.90/10oz) – nothing disappointed and you would only wish you had more tummies to eat them all.

SPECIALITY CUTS AND COMBOS SECTION PROVIDES THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS

Having difficulty trying to decide on whether to have the steak or other savoury main courses such as the baby back ribs or Alice spring chicken? Why not have both? Under the Speciality Cuts & Combo section, you can have your favourite steak alongside one of Outback Steakhouse’s classic dishes.

The Steak & Ribs Combo (S$39.90) is perfect for gluttons like us. A 6oz signature sirloin with half a rack of baby back ribs and fries; life would be complete. We also enjoyed the Toowoomba Topped Sirloin (S$36.90) – a lovely seared sirloin with sautéed shrimp and button mushrooms tossed in a tomato and Parmesan creme sauce.

AN EXTENSIVE LIST OF NINE SIDE DISHES TO GO ALONG WITH THE STEAKS

All steak orders come with two sides, which you can choose from a list of nine that includes Corn on the Cob, Mashed Potatoes, Baked Potato, Aussie Fries, Rice Pilaf, Sweet Potato Fries, and the new Sweet Baked Potato with honey butter and cinnamon sugar. Yes, we know. Decision-making is not easy.

… AND EVER MORE APPETISERS TO CHOOSE FROM

Crispy Calamari (S$13.90), Crab Cakes (S$15.90), Spinach Artichoke Dip (S$13.90), Kookaburra Wings (S$9.90/half, S$14.90/full)… The appetisers selection at Outback Steakhouse is pretty damn amazing and nothing is crazily expensive.

One thing that you must not miss is the Typhoon Bloom (S$14.90) – a super tall stack of hand-cut onion strings fried till golden brown and served with Outback Steakhouse’s signature spicy bloom sauce. And the Spinach Artichoke Dip used to be on the Limited Time Offer menu only, but due to overwhelming response, it is now a mainstay!

Just remember to pace yourself and save room for desserts.

FANTASTIC LOCATION AT ORCHARDGATEWAY

One of the things that we like about Outback Steakhouse’s new outlet is the location. Not only is the restaurant centrally located in town, the space on the fourth floor of orchardgateway also comes with a good view overlooking the main Orchard Road.

The restaurant is brightly lit and airy in the day; it is a comfortable place where you can slow down your pace and enjoy a steak feast with your loved ones.

OUTBACK STEAKHOUSE IS MORE THAN JUST STEAKS

While Outback Steakhouse specialises in steaks, it also dishes out an array of main courses and seafood. Favourites include Alice Springs Chicken (S$25.90), BBQ Chicken (S$19.90/half), Grilled Pork Chops (S$24.90), Grilled Salmon (S$26.90), and Seafood Pasta (S$22.90). Even if you do not feel like having steak, there is always something new to try at Outback Steakhouse.

Our pick has got to be the Tilapia with Pure Lump Crab Meat (S$27.90). Fresh white fish accompanied with crab stuffing, and topped with a copious amount of sweet crab meat, complete with lemon butter Chablis sauce – seafood lovers, you know what to do now.

FINGERS LICKING GOOD BABY BACK RIBS

Outback Steakhouse’s Baby Back Ribs is a dish that will have us coming back again and again. Accompanied with fries, and drizzled with homemade BBQ sauce, the fork-tender Back Back Ribs (S$19.90/half, S$32.90/full) was sensational – we would gladly wolf down a whole rack on our own!

A LINEUP OF COCKTAILS MADE USING FRESH FRUITS AND JUICES

Beyond the range of steaks and savoury main courses, Outback Steakhouse also emphasises on serving good cocktails that are made at the bar using fresh fruits and juices.

There are too many choices on the cocktail menu, but we recommend Strawberry Basil Lemonade (S$13.90) – a refreshing blend of fresh strawberries and basil with house-made lemonade and Absolut® Citron Vodka; Watermelon Margarita (S$14.90) which combines fresh watermelon chunks, Jose Cuervo Silver Tequila, citrus juices; and Apple Mojito (S$12.90), a cheerful concoction of Bacardi silver rum, diced red apples, limes and mint.

KID’S MENU FOR THE LITTLE ONES

The little ones get to enjoy good food, too! The kid’s menu at Outback Steakhouse features choices like Kid’s Fish & Chips (S$9.90), Kid’s Burger (S$12.90), Kid’s Chicken Finger (S$9.90). Each selection comes with a free soda.

RICH, SINFUL AND DECADENT DESSERTS

Desserts at Outback Steakhouse are a meal on its own. We could not stop gushing about the Chocolate Thunder from Down Under (S$14.90) – a humongous dessert of pecan brownie topped with a huge scoop of ice cream. Drowned in warm chocolate sauce, this is one dessert to die for!

The Carrot Cake (S$9.90) also caught us by surprise. The light, cloud-like vanilla cream cheese icing that rested on the extremely moist carrot cake with pecan and coconut did not disappoint, not one bit. Actually, we might just go back for a serving of this amazing rendition.

On weekdays, Outback Steakhouse is offering value-for-money set lunches (Mon to Fri 11.30am – 5pm) starting from S$12.90 to S$22.90. Options include Black Pepper Steak, Grilled Fish Marsala, and Outback Special Sirloin. All lunch entrées are served with soup of the day and a glass of soda.

One of the things that we did not know about Millenia Walk, until we went on a food tour around the mall recently, is that there are so many good dessert hideouts that will make you go weak in the knees.

Among all the unique food places that we have tried at Millenia Walk, the two joints that stood out were Patisserie G and Tart Blanc. The former is a locally-founded patisserie that offers an amazing array of French cakes, pastries and desserts; the latter is an absolute gem that specialises in tart-based desserts. We are head over heels in love with Tart Blanc’s raspberry praline tart!

And to our Muslim friends, when you dine at Fika Swedish Cafe & Bistro, be sure to save room for their red velvet cake and cheesecake. Rainbow cake lovers have to try MEDZS’ rendition, which is soft, moist, and pretty. And how can we say no to the freshly baked waffles from Commune Cafe & Bistro No. 50?

Other desserts that are worth trying at Millenia Walk are the chocolate lava cakes from 3 Inch Sin; lemongrass & ginger ice cream from Ruby, Thai Inspired Cuisine; and the panna cotta from Bel Mondo.

By the way, do you know that Millenia Walk currently has an ongoing Nosh on the Finer Side promotion (till 3 August 2014) with different treats every day?

Speak about Arteastiq, and its tea lounge at Mandarin Gallery instantly comes to mind. Recently, the good people behind this one-of-its-kind art jamming cum studio café have gone traditional with its new restaurant Arteastiq Tea Bone China at Millenia Walk.

The décor was effortlessly classy, bringing a sense of nostalgia without the tackiness. We were especially fascinated by the birdcages that dangled from the ceiling, an attempt to recreate the experiences of olden-day Chinese merchants who’d bird-watch while sipping pots of tea.

The hotpot menu is limited, with a choice of 3 soup bases – Bak Kut Teh ($5.50), Pork Bone ($6.50) or Ginseng Chicken ($8.80), and a selection of ingredients such as Sliced Salmon ($14.80), Kampong Chicken ($11.80) and Vegetables ($6.80).

We went for the pork bone soup, which was comforting and flavourful, if just a tad heavy-handed on the salt. The Sliced Beef ($12.80) which a at first glance looked fresh and promising, turned out to be sinewy and lacking in flavour. Vegetables are, well, vegetables. But they made for a feel-good meal together with a bowl of brown rice ($2), which was cooked with a mish-mash of vegetables and beans.

Apart from the hotpots, Arteastiq dishes up a variety of communal dishes, from the ubiquitous pan-fried Silver Cod Fish ($16.80) to the intriguing Crispy Tofu with Chicken and Avocado Cream ($12.80).

We enjoyed the Siew Mai ($4.80) from the dim sum menu, but found the signature Xiao Long Baos ($6.80) unremarkable. If there is one dish we’d return to Tea Bone China for, it is the Wanton with hot chilli sauce ($5.80). Sitting in a pool of sourish, slightly spicy Chinese vinegar were 6 plump, juicy prawn and pork dumplings encased in a silky wanton skin. These were remarkably satisfying.

Arteastiq’s attempt to recreate the hotpot experience fine-dining style is commendable, but would probably not please traditionalists looking for a hearty hotpot meal since portions are small. While the experience is worth a visit, the food is not. With so many other dining options at Millenia Walk, we doubt we will be hurrying back any time soon.

There are many Japanese restaurants in town, but to find one that has good Japanese food at reasonable prices? That’s no mean feat. So imagine my happiness when I chanced upon Rakuzen Japanese Restaurant at Millenia Walk.

The restaurant has a comprehensive menu, with many choices in the sushi, sashimi, fried, and grilled section. Most of the items are priced below $20. For instance, you can get a yakiniku set (with rice and miso soup) for $16, and there is the option of adding sashimi to the set at $23. The prices here are almost comparable to everyone’s favourite Sushi Tei, and the best part is you don’t have to queue for a table.

Rakuzen offers a fanciful range of sashimi – from a nice platter of eight kinds of sashimi ($80) for 3-5 persons; to a chef’s special sashimi set ($40/pax) – but we opted for a simple salmon sashimi ($13 for 7 pcs).

The cranky salmon roll ($9) and California roll ($9) arrived shortly after. Both rolls were simple – the former, salmon in spicy mayonnaise roll topped with flakes and flying fish; and the latter, an avocado roll with omelette, and crabstick – nothing crazy in terms of flavour, but just done well enough to hit the spot.

Next, we had the sukiyaki-style beef set ($18), which was hearty and soulful.

If you like unagi, you should also try Razuken’s roasted eel set ($18).

All in all, the food at Rakuzen is of a good standard, and coupled with the fact that it is wallet-friendly, I would certainly go back when I want Japanese food.

I, Willy Wonky, have decided to allow three children, to visit my Research facility this year. These lucky three will be allowed to see all the secrets and the magic of my facility. Then at the end of the tour, as a special present, one of them will be given enough chocolates and sweets to last him/her for the rest of the life! So watch out for the Choc Tickets!

The Chocolate room. An important room, this! This is the heart of the whole research facility. And so beautiful yes! Below the melting chocolate wall, are bars and bars of chocolate, 100 different flavours! There, it’s all chocolate!

The inventing room. All the most secret new inventions are cooking and simmering in here. The connoisseur, exotic, double fruit series are some of the ones which will make your saliva-gland start working. Not to mention there’s the classic, nut, coffee and tea series.

Only Brad Brat left. The winner, with enough chocolate & sweets to last him for the lifetime! The dark chocolate 70% from Saint domingue in the spotlight.

***

Chocolate Research Facility (CRF) is a chocolate boutique, which comprises of a retail store and a cafe. The interesting layout of the shop, the unique packaging of the chocolate bars, the intriguing combination of flavours available, meant that you need to grab a bar here! The chocolate are priced at $8, 10, & 12 for different flavours. I brought one bar, guess the flavour!

This post is inspired base on the story, Charlie & the chocolate factory by Roald Dahl. I have made some changes to parts of it, no intention of misusing the author’s right.
