After a two-year long renovation, Higher Ground Melbourne alas opened its doors to the public on 04 July 2016. The venue—located just across Southern Cross train station in the city—is housed within a heritage-listed 19th-century former power station and characterised by exposed brick walls, high ceilings of at least three storeys and beautiful arched windows.
Higher Ground Melbourne’s old-world charm is juxtaposed with lounge-style nooks, split-level mezzanines, potted greenery and minimalistic decors. The new dining establishment is brought to you by the same team behind Top Paddock and Kettle Black; and a formidable line-up of chefs with reputations of pushing boundaries helm this gorgeous space.

Living in Melbourne city has been an exciting gastronomical experience for me. Being surrounded by endless food and beverages on a daily basis has prompted me to come up with a list of 5 special foodie experiences that are reasonably priced.
Forget about walking along the main roads, it’s time to venture further, turn into laneways and walk up/down dark stairways. These precious gems that I am about to talk about (an open concept roof top bar, a tram stop café, an Italian restaurant managed by a mischievous boss, a floating bar and an underground Japanese restaurant) are located in the city vicinity but often in unnoticeable places. There’s so much Melbourne can offer!
