Maison Sucrée – New Muslim-Owned Bakery In Redhill By Ashes SG

The team behind hawker gourmet burger stall, Ashes SG, has opened a new Muslim-owned bakery in Redhill.

Maison Sucrée is located at the void deck of 63B Lengkok Bahru, which is just a short walk from Redhill MRT Station.

You can look forward to bakes including croissants, lemon meringue, chocolate salted caramel and blueberry tarts.

The croissants are available at S$3.50 each while stocks last.

Easties, rejoice! We have a Muslim-owned neighbourhood bakery to introduce to you, and it is Shubby Sweets. Nestled in the quaint Chai Chee estate a mere stone throw’s away from Bedok MRT, this halal bakery doles out handcrafted artisanal bakes including the likes of brownies, blondies, cakes, and choux.

A successful homegrown business, Shubby Sweets have become the go-to takeaway spot for residents in the area to curb their sweet cravings. The folks behind this bakery also pride themselves on creating bite-sized goodies in small batches to achieve utmost quality and consistency.

Expect a different menu each week — you are in for a sweet treat each time you pop by.

Step in and you will be greeted by the aroma of butter and tantalising display of baked desserts. Be spoiled for choice with their selection of brownies; there are six different flavours to choose from. Do note that their brownies and blondies are not sold à la carte and you have to get them in a box of five at S$7.50.

We went for the Magic Fudgy Brownie, Red Velvet Brownie, and Sticky Chewy Brownie. Their treats come in a luscious, buttery base reminiscent of a cake. We also appreciated how each brownie had a different flavoured base such as red velvet or chocolate, allowing for a change in taste.

Out of the trio, our favourite was the Sticky Chewy Brownie. The dessert had a thick chocolate chunk atop a decadent, creamy chocolate base. Each bite was chock full of melted chocolate — true to its name, the middle of the brownie was laced with rich chocolate and had a gooey, slightly chewy consistency.

We also opted for two of their blondies: Speculoos Biscoff Blondie and Nutella Blondie. The Speculoos Biscoff Blondie had a crumbly, biscuit-like texture with a soft middle that oozed nutty, caramelised flavour.

The Nutella Blondie was a tad bit disappointing. There was no distinct hazelnut flavour and we could not taste the Nutella at all. We suggest skipping this flavour.

The star of the show, however, was the Lemon Loaf (S$3). The cake was incredibly moist and fluffy and flavoured with aromatic lemon essence. We could also taste a slight bitterness, balancing out the treat’s tart sweetness. The crust was also well-toasted, adding a crisp textural contrast to the soft cake.

Mother Dough – Halal Bakery Near Bugis With One of Singapore’s Best Flaky Croissants

When it comes to croissants, French buttery flaky rolls full of crisp goodness springs to mind. Yet, not many bakeries in Singapore do them right — they often end up missing the mark, resulting in overly-soggy and tasteless croissants.

Recently, we have found one hole-in-the-wall bakery near to Bugis that churns out one of the best croissants! Introducing Mother Dough — each labor-intensive pastry sold in their quaint little shop is freshly baked to perfection and well-crafted, ensuring fluffiness and depth of flavours. Not to mention, they are Halal-certified too!

Offering a tantalising array of croissants, sourdough bread, pastries, cakes as well as coffee, this artisanal bakery is best known for its flaky croissants. Ever since it first opened its doors, it has gained popularity amongst both tourists and locals alike, with its baked goods often selling out by late morning.

We opted for their Sourdough Plain Croissant (S$4), and the goodie was crisp, complete with a flaky crust. It had just the right amount of butter, resulting in a non-greasy croissant that was both light and airy.

When we bit into it, it broke apart easily, revealing fluttery, paper-thin layers and a dense middle chock full of buttery goodness. This is the croissant to go for if you prefer having your pastries plain! It is also best paired with a cup of joe.

Our personal bias is their Almond Chocolate Croissant (S$5.20) that is flecked with a generous topping of almonds. The croissant is well toasted with a slight char, lacing the pastry with subtle nutty notes.

It also encased airy, flaky layers consisting of thick, gooey chocolate and frangipane cream, and sprinkled with cinnamon. Though crisp on the outside, it had a chewy, soft middle that melted in our mouths, oozing a sweet mixture of both cream and chocolate.

The Iced Latte (S$6) was aromatic, smooth and not acidic. It was also well-balanced with both slightly bitter and sweet accents.

The bakery first went the e-commerce way with an Instagram account, after which their fame propelled and finally led to the opening of its current flagship store.

Fluff Bakery sells homemade cakes and interesting local fusion cupcake flavours. At S$4 a piece, these cupcakes are handcrafted with quality ingredients, and the freshness is evident.

Coveted flavours include the Ondeh Ondeh, Teh Tarik, Salted Caramel, Maple Pecan Creme Brulee and Horlicks. The menu changes weekly, so be sure to check the menu online before heading down to avoid disappointment.

The people at Fluff Bakery are passionate in what they do, and their love for cupcakes shone through every single cupcake. Don’t their creations just look so lovely?

The bakery operates from 12pm daily until they are sold out, so it is best you head down early if you are keen on bagging one of their yummy bakes home. We don’t need worms for being early because worms are icky, but we want our cupcakes.

Tucked away in the stretch of shophouses on Dunlop Street, Rouse can be easy to miss because of their simple shop front. But if you spot it and step into the cafe, the intimate setting will instantly make you feel at home. Rouse has a quaint industrial-style interior with beautiful low-hanging bulbs and art murals on the walls.

Looking for a cosy space with free wifi to get some work done? Rouse is a lovely Muslim-owned cafe with great fresh coffee, and the food served here are pretty wholesome too.

We like how the fusion dishes served here are nothing too far-fetched and still very easy on the palates.

Small bites such as the addictive Sweet Potato Fries (S$7.90) and Orange-Glazed Chicken Wings (S$12.90) are great options for a bigger group to share, but of course, we won’t judge you even if you order a serving for yourself.

If you are thinking basic cafe fare such as Eggs Benedict and Carbonara, Rouse took a step further and will delight with their fusion creations such as the Tandoori Chicken Linguine. Effort was definitely put in in this dish and we love the traditional rub and marinate to the chicken thighs to give it full flavour. The linguine was tossed in a lot of garlic and parmesan, for a bonus flavour-enhancer.

Tucked away in a small corner of Crawford Lane – just next to Tolido’s Espresso Nook – And All Things Delicious stands out with their attractive storefront. Once you step in, you will feel a sense of warmth and comfort, both from the enchanting smell of freshly-baked pastries to the overall cosy vibe of this halal-certified cafe.

Displayed beautifully in the shop is an impressive array of desserts ranging from pastries, scones to cakes. They also have a savoury menu, where you can pick from a selection from quiches and more.

Because they specialise in mainly cakes and pastries, we suggest digging straight into their dessert selection because it can do no wrong.

The Sticky Toffee Pudding (S$5.90) was so well-made, we finished it in a few bites. While we were slightly apprehensive about the generous drizzle of toffee sauce, we came to realize that the sauce was actually just right and the sweetness did not overwhelm us. The sponge cake underneath was nice and fragrant with evenly grounded pieces of dates.

What we loved most about And All Things Delicious is how unpretentious it is; just simple and wholesome pastries and cakes that people of all ages would love. For afternoons, you can hop on down and grab some Scones (S$5 for 2) with a cup of Iced Latte (S$5.50) and unwind with a book.
