Whenever we talk about Vietnamese food, the first thing that comes to mind is a cuisine that boasts complex heady aromas of fresh herbs and robust flavours that pack a punch yet remain light on the palate.

An amalgamation of fresh and exotic flavours hailing from various regions of Vietnam, newly-established Paper Rice aims to give diners nothing short of the real taste of Vietnam. This new concept by Arteastiq Group—you may know them for their stellar range of brewed teas and art jam spaces—sees a collaboration of colossal proportions, tying in the skillsets of Arteastiq’s award-winning Executive Chef Yip and Vietnamese-born Chef Minh.

Officially opening its doors at Changi City Point on 30 November 2018, Paper Rice takes diners through Vietnam’s rich gastronomic history encompassing the cuisine’s signature clean, exotic and robust flavours. Think nostalgic classics such as the hearty pho, smoky street-style grill and Vietnamese drip coffee, as well as other traditional and uncommon Vietnamese delights.

As part of their launch, you get to enjoy Saigon Export beers at just S$2 and 50% off Kirin beers with any purchase of food from 30 November to 31 December 2018. The best part? That’s probably the least exciting promotion the restaurant has in store. Make sure to read till the end of this article for more details.

STARTERS

Offering a pretty decent selection of starter dishes, these are what we advise you to start with to give you a more restrained introduction to the courses to come.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

Our patty was beautifully cooked, achieving the perfect medium-rare. During the cooking, the cooks press the patties down hard against the griddle to achieve a deep and even crust, all while expertly flipping and timing each one to ensure that every patty is done just right.

What we particularly enjoyed about the Wolf Burger, despite it being so simple and ordinary, was the fact that neither one of the ingredients were overly assertive, allowing us to truly appreciate the quality of the beef.

Every burger here is fully customisable, so feel free to exclude or include whatever you want from the type of cheese to their wide selection of toppings. We requested for some pickled gherkins to be added as well as we wanted something acidic to cut through the richness of the beef and melted cheese.

For an additional S$3, you can choose to upgrade to a meal that comprises any side item and a drink of your choice. There were quite a few interesting choices but the Sweet Potato Fries (S$4) seemed like the most enticing.

Crispy from edge to edge, every shoestring of sweet potato brimmed with a deep caramelised flavour—a quality that complemented our burger extremely well.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

For the uninitiated, Sangria is an alcoholic beverage commonly enjoyed in Spain. It is made with brandy, sliced fruits, red/white wine and a sweetener.

Over at Changi City Point’s RessRoom, Australian Katherine Hills Cabernet Sauvignon, Martell and Soda Water are used. Do note that the exact ingredients and amount used vary – depending on one’s preference.

The recipe is a relatively simple one to follow and every attendee had a go at creating this Spanish classic concoction alongside other invited guests. It was really heartwarming seeing everyone work together as a team; we work hard and play hard together, right?

The best tasting sangria would be those mixture that have been left to sit overnight, for the sweetness of the fruits to add a touch of flavour to the alcohol, and for the wine to be absorbed into the fruits.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

The thoughtful guys at RessRoom had already prepared a gigantic amount of red wine sangria for all our guests the night before, and we all got to taste the refreshing traditional Spanish sangria; talk about the best thirst quencher with juicy fruit bits! We are guessing all our guests can now make this crowd-pleaser cocktail on their own at home!

We also had the privilege to catch a glimpse of and to sample RessRoom’s new menu. We started with the zesty Gazpacho Soup – a peppery tomato-based broth served with prosciutto-wrapped potato.

Honestly, a good gazpacho can be so satisfying. We always seek comfort in a bowl of piping hot soup, but gazpachos are exception and we would gladly have them anytime, anywhere. The RessRoom’s version is made even better with that savoury potato ball!

And of course, what is Spanish food without some paella? Here at RessRoom, you get a simple Seafood Paella served with squid, prawns and mussels that is prepared fresh in-house with premium prawn stock. Squid ink has been used to blacken the rice’s colour and enhance its flavour.

And then we dived right back into everyone’s favourite part – alcohol. The entire party shifted to the long bar this time to watch the exciting preparations of Mojito, Flaming Lamborghini and the Waterfall Cocktail!

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

From basic must-have equipment to preparation techniques, he went through every single nitty gritty detail that could essentially attribute to the success/failure of your concoction. He even went through the history of cocktails in the most amusing way! Whoever said history lessons were boring has yet to meet Dave.

It was an eye-opening sight as Dave explained the impact when using different shakers, strainers and muddlers etc. Being a professional bartender is seriously no easy feat. There are so many techniques to master and so many things to learn about, e.g. pairing of ingredients. Advanced bartending is a skill that can only be acquired with experience and time.

Fortunately, an economical basic bartending set costs less than S$50 and is great for any rookie who would like to try making cocktails at home. You read that right – S$50 is all you need to start.

A few of our lucky readers volunteered to join Dave on a hands-on demo. From mixing the concoction in a Boston Shaker to straining out the liqueur mixture, we kept our eyes peeled on the steps.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

The volunteers did a great job, especially when it was all their first time preparing a cocktail! Alongside with Dave, they went through the preparation of Table Manners’ tasty cocktails, including Table Manners’ SG50 Red Lion Cocktail.

All attendees were invited to sample Table Manners’ delicious concoctions of Rhubarb Caipirinha, Southern Old Fashioned, Passionfruit Martini and SG50 Red Lion Cocktail. Dave as he self-confessed, has a sweet tooth, which explain the relative sweetness and fruitiness of each cocktail we had sampled.

You know you have to head down to Table Manners for more of these alcoholic goodness! You will be in good hands with Dave. And if there is nothing on the menu you fancy, no worries! Just share your preference with him anyway, and he will create something just for you. He’s so talented, and our readers can vouch for that.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

The event ended off on a high note with everyone indulging in samples of mouthwatering cocktails and taking part in a useful Q&A segment with Dave. We had an enjoyable time learning how to prepare cocktails and interacting with our readers.

Once again, special thanks to Changi City Point, Table Manners, Dave Koh and our awesome readers for making this event possible! Till the next, which is pretty soon!

Here is what to expect, and how to win entries to this event:

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
// ]]>

We will also be given an introduction to Mixology, the origin and history of cocktails, common terms and definitions, as well as Bar Equipment familiarisation. Of the three cocktails that we will be learning to make, one of them is a special concoction by the Table Manners’ team – the SG50 Red Lion Cocktail. The other 2 cocktails will be revealed during the workshop itself. And the cherry on top is that four lucky readers will be chosen to take part in the hands-on demonstration.

What most people do not know about Changi City Point is the existence of a hidden gem called The Oasis; we love that place. The serene sanctuary is tucked away at a far corner of level one and surrounded by beautiful lush greenery. It is home to four established restaurants and bars, namely FIVE Izakaya, MOA Tiki New Zealand Bar & Grill, RessRoom and Table Manners.

Hot favourites include the mouthwatering French classic Duck Confit. The duck meat is slow cooked until meltingly tender and its skin pan-seared to a golden brown crisp. The poultry sits on a bed of soft mashed potatoes with orange sauce and served with a generous portion of sautéed mushrooms.

The King Prawn Aglio Olio (S$19.90) is also a crowd pleaser – the gigantic Myanmar imported King Prawn is cooked in a char-broiler and served with stir-fried aglio olio. Meat lovers should not miss out on the Lamb Shank and Char-grilled Peri Peri Chicken.

The all-encompassing menu extends its audience to those of vegetarian diets and even the little ones. Parents can order from kids-size fish and chips (S$12), mini beef burger (S$12) to chicken cutlet (S$12) for their children. Every child will also receive a scoop of chocolate or vanilla ice cream on the house.

Live music will be played on Wednesday to Friday nights from 7 – 9pm. If you are not feeling peckish, why not order a glass of Sauvignon Blanc or a pint of Erdinger and loosen up whilst listening to the live band’s performance? In conjunction with Singapore’s 50th Birthday, RessRoom is giving a generous promotion of 50% off all cocktails from 7 – 10 August 2015.
