Consecutively awarded the ‘World’s Best Airport’ for its sixth year in 2018—the first time in the history of the awards—, Changi Airport dubs itself as ‘an airport worthy of being a destination in itself’ for good reason.

Jewel Changi Airport will be Singapore Changi Airport’s newest addition and unmistakably one of the most highly-anticipated openings in our city. Opening on 17 April 2019, this complex will house some of the world’s biggest f&b brands such as popular American burger franchise Shake Shack, A&W and London’s famous Burger & Lobster.

Before the official opening, a public preview will be held from 11 to 16 April 2019 for everyone to have a sneak peek. A total of about 500,000 free tickets will be available and it will run in four three-hour time blocks from 10am to 10pm daily.

The 14,000 sq m Canopy Park—located on the top floor of Jewel Changi Airport—is not available and it will be open to the public only in the middle of the year.

Here’s what you can expect to find in Jewel Changi Airport!

The 10-storey complex will cover a gross floor area of 134,000 meters square and will comprise a whole range of play attractions for both kids and adults alike, a variety of popular restaurants and retail brands.

To date, more than 90% of their retail space has already been occupied by big brands, including NYC’s famous Shake Shack and sportswear giant Nike. Whether you’re looking for international cuisines or local fare or even a place to sit down and sip on a pint of beer, this new mall has covered it all.

After having left our sunny shores 10 years ago, we thought that the popular American fast food chain A&W will be gone for good.
The famous London dining concept Burger & Lobster is finally opening in Singapore on 20 May 2019 with its first outlet at Jewel Changi Airport.

This isn’t the restaurant chain’s first outlet in Asia—there’s one at Genting Highlands and another in Bangkok—but we are glad that there is no need to cross the borders anymore if we want to have a taste of their iconic grilled lobster and lobster roll.

Burger & Lobster Singapore will be located at the Canopy Park on Jewel’s topmost level. Changi Airport has just announced that Jewel Changi Airport will be opening on 17 April 2019, but the Canopy Park will be open to the public only in the middle of the year.

Are you ready for Lobster and Burger to open at Jewel Changi Airport? We definitely are!

For those of you who are not familiar with Burger & Lobster, its rustic, yet luxurious concept is fairly straightforward—diners choose among three options on the menu that see the likes of burger, lobster and lobster roll.

Other than the three main dishes, you can also look forward to new dishes that are inspired by local flavours at the Singapore outpost.

As mentioned earlier, Burger & Lobster is opening its first Singapore outlet at Jewel Changi Airport and we have no doubts that the queue will be insane! The 81-seater restaurant is going to comprise both seating areas and a bar, just like how its London restaurants are. There will be live lobster tanks too.

The prices of the dishes are unknown so far, but we heard from the Marketing Manager himself that the menu is going to be very similar to London’s where you get a burger option, lobster rolls and whole lobsters, along with some side dishes.

With the opening of Pokémon Centre, A&W, Shake Shack and Burger & Lobster, Jewel Changi Airport is set to be the dining destination in Singapore.

Burger & Lobster is opening in Bangkok next! Riding on the wave of its recent opening in Genting Highlands, it looks like Burger & Lobster’s Asian invasion is set to continue.

It is believed that Burger & Lobster will be opening in March on the ground floor of Gaysorn Plaza, but no official date has been announced yet.

It is a huge win for the high-end shopping mall given that it has been losing out to other malls—such as Siam Paragon, EmQuartier—in attracting high-profile tenants.

For the uninitiated, there are only three items on Burger & Lobster’s menu—burger, lobster and lobster roll.

The first outlet of Burger & Lobster started out in an Irish pub in Mayfair and has now grown into 14 outlets all over the United Kingdom. Burger & Lobster also has international outposts in Dubai, Jeddah, Kuwait, New York, Stockholm and Malaysia.

Given how Burger & Lobster Genting Highlands has several new options—Chilli Lobster, Lobster Roll with signature sauce, and Beef burger topped with lobster—on the menu, you can expect Burger & Lobster Bangkok to be doing the same. Tom Yum Lobster, maybe?

Much ado about Lobster Rolls.

Life at The Big Apple revolved largely around the crustacean, and we stuffed ourselves silly with the endless lobster options. While the co-relation between New York City and lobsters is debatable, we would like to think no trip to NYC is complete without having a lobster roll or two. Or three. Or how about every day?

So we did lots of research, asked for recommendations, and spent our weeks trying lobster rolls from every corner of Manhattan. Not quite sick of them yet, and instead, we wished we were residents of NYC so that we could party with lobster rolls more often.

Where do you find New York City’s Best Lobster Rolls, and what are your favourites? Here’s our guide on 9 of the Best Lobster Rolls in New York City.

#1 BURGER & LOBSTER

Fans of Burger & Lobster – the famous Brit restaurant which only serves three items on the menu: Burger, Whole Lobster and Lobster Roll – will be thrilled to know that it has opened its first restaurant in United States. Like its restaurants in U.K., the three items are all served at US$20 each, and even after adding in taxes and tipping, it actually works out to be a lot cheaper than what you would have to pay for in the U.K. (as compared to £20 each).

The beef for the burger is from Nebraska, while the lobsters come from Nova Scotia. At US$20, Burger & Lobster’s Lobster Roll is extremely value-for-money and worth every cent, especially when you compare it to other lobster rolls in New York.

#2 ED’S LOBSTER BAR

Lobster Roll, Lobster Pot Pie, Lobster Ravioli, Steamed Lobster, Grilled Lobster, Broiled Lobster, and Lobster Burger – you name it, Ed’s Lobster Bar has it. It is a lobster heaven. The Grilled Lobster is decent, but the must-try is the Lobster Roll (US$30, varies with market price).

Filled with chunks of lobster flesh, the Lobster Roll is easily the best we’ve had at New York City. Fresh, red meat lightly tossed in mayo and lemon juice, pillowed in a toasted, buttered brioche; the end result is a Lobster Roll so heavenly, it got us slightly obsessed.

There are tons of restaurants that sell lobster rolls in New York City, but Luke’s Lobster has made a name for itself by bringing the best of the Maine Coast to New York City with fresh Maine lobster, crab and shrimp rolls at unbeatable prices.

The Shrimp Roll starts at just US$8, while the Crab Roll is US$13. Unlike most seafood restaurants in the Big Apple which charge over US$30 for a Lobster Roll, Luke’s is selling its Lobster Roll at a jaw-dropping price of only US$16!

#4 LURE FISHBAR

Said to be a place that celebrities and famous connoisseurs patronize, Lure Fishbar at SoHo indeed has one of the best lobster rolls in New York City. But first, let us warn you about the staff and their snobbish attitude. It is honestly not the nicest place to hang out at – the vibe is so pretentious, with glum-looking staff who are not the most polite.

If you are look beyond that, Lure Fishbar has Lobster Rolls at US$30 per serving that we wolfed down within five minutes. The bread’s nicely toasted and warm on the inside, and the overflowing chunks of lobster flesh are evenly coated with the homemade sauce.

#5 RED HOOK LOBSTER POUND

Just to be clear, Red Hook Lobster Pound is not exactly a hidden secret. If any, it is a popular Brooklyn seafood chain with an outlet in Manhattan, as well as a food truck. Cool, yes?

Its Manhattan outlet is tucked in a small alley off East 1st Street. There are five lobster rolls on the menu – Maine Style (US$16), Tuscan Style (US$16), Connecticut Style (US$16), Lobster BLT (US$18), Bikini Style (US$16) – and every lobster roll comes with 1/4 lb fresh-picked Maine lobster on a grilled, top-split hotdog bun with a Brooklyn Brine Pickle.

Pick the Connecticut Style lobster roll – hot, buttery and very robust. We couldn’t get enough of that one there.

#6 THE LOBSTER PLACE (CULL & PISTOL)

At US$16.95, the Lobster Roll from The Lobster Place at Chelsea Market represents superb value. Sure, it is not the fanciest, but it works great as a fuss-free meal and if you need to grab a lunch on the go. This is for takeaway, but you can sit at the few tables at the entrance of The Lobster Place.

For a proper sit-down meal, you can head next door to Cull & Pistol which shares the same kitchen. The Maine Style Lobster Roll (US$25) and Connecticut Style Lobster Roll (US$25) are served with fries on the side.

The Lobster Place opens from 9.30am, but the lobster roll kiosk only starts operating from 11am onwards.

#7 MARY’S FISH CAMP

This tiny seafood restaurant in West Village is always packed for a reason – it dishes out well-cooked New England fish shack-style seafood. The much-lauded Lobster Roll (US$32, varies with Market Price), with huge chunks of lobster meat served in a delicious roll, also lived up to the hype.

The serving is not exactly the most generous, but we would say you are paying for the supreme quality. Here, you get an honest roll that is as simple as it can get – the freshness of the crustacean flaunts its natural sweetness, and the brioche is soft and warm. We wish it was slightly more buttered, though.

#8 PEARL OYSTER BAR

Sitting within West Village, Pearl Lobster Bar is a beautiful outlet with a minimalist interior. The menu is concise, with a large emphasis on oysters. They are also widely recognized for their Lobster Roll (US$29).

Sure, the serving is a generous one, and the shoestring fries are goddamn awesome. But we thought the lobster’s sweetness was overpowered by the mayo. It is still a pretty decent lobster roll, though. The bun’s alright, but we would prefer them go easy on the sauce to let the lobster’s freshness shine on its own.

#9 URBAN LOBSTER SHACK

Urban Lobster Shack is red and iconic, and is very much welcomed by executives and people who want a fuss-free lunch to go. It is not hard to love them – lobster rolls are pleasantly affordable at US$13 for the classic serving, and you have the option of topping up for soup and chips and other combos.

There are also several lobster options, like the BLT sandwich and grilled lobster. But we stood at Wall Street to observe, and everyone in the long queue simply went for the classic Lobster Roll. So, Lobster Roll it shall be for you too.

#28 FOSSILS AND MORE AT THE NATIONAL HISTORY MUSEUM

It is a fascinating world in here at the National History Museum. History buffs and the curious minds will be intrigued by all the fossils and skeletons, and all that ancient civilization has to tell us.

#29 LIBERTY – A SHOPPING EMPORIUM

The monochromatic building on Regent Street is an avant-garde shopping destination for classy finds and luxury buys. Quite unlike your usual modern malls, Liberty is an emporium that boasts a – for the lack of a better word – Brit interior with a sophisticated shopping environment.

#30 COVENT GARDEN

What used to be a fruit and vegetable market is another happening area to hang out for both locals and tourists. Today, Covent Garden is well-loved for its curated shopping, bars and little restaurants. Sitting on the fringe of West End, Covent Garden is a pit stop for entertainment and art lovers. The renown Royal Opera House sits proudly on this ground too.

#31 TAKE A WALK AT MAYFAIR

A prestigious area in Central London, Mayfair houses the most five-star hotels and luxury properties in London. Fancy taking a walk and breathing in the elegance of the area? Or do a little shopping at the exclusive boutiques? For classical music lovers, the Handel House Museum is also situated at Mayfair, to commemorate the late German-born baroque composer George Frederic Handel who eventually made London his home.

#32 A DISTINGUISHED BREAKFAST AT THE BREAKFAST CLUB

Dubbed as the best breakfast place in London, this small joint at Soho sees a long queue every day. With a casual 80′s interior, hippy music and a menu of comfort breakfast classics, you are in for a hearty and very filling (portions are relatively huge!) meal over at The Breakfast Club.

#33 A SPIRITUAL EXPERIENCE AT ST PAUL’S CATHEDRAL

Embodying the spiritual life and heritage of the British nation, St Paul’s Cathedral is the most highly recognised Cathedral for worship. Religious souls seek inspiration and enlightenment here, and visitors from all over the world are welcome to join the hourly prayers where they can pray in their own languages.

#34 MADAME TUSSAUD’S FLAGSHIP MUSUEM

Since she first opened doors to her wax museum on Marylebone Road, Madame Tussauds’ wax models have been a nationwide hit. Its flagship outlet at London is packed with visitors every day. And since it is impossible to ever meet Picasso and Charlie Chaplin, and even sheer luck may not have us bumping into Kate Winslet and Lady Gaga, why not exchange friendly banters with their life-size wax models at the museum?

#35 THE SHARD

Because it is not every day that you can find a triangular building as grand as The Shard of London.

Not the most pleasant word in the dictionary, but a dinner at Beast King Crab & Steak Restaurant is surely one of the most memorable dinners we’ve had at London. Fans of the ever-popular Burger & Lobster would know that Beast Restaurant is the other brainchild of the same owner, and it is a five-month-old joint that is the talk of the town.

It is similar, yet very different. Beast Restaurant is a posh outlet in Marylebone, and it is a stunning underground restaurant for diners of the after-dark. Longitudinal log tables and seats fill the indoor sitting area, together with endless candles to light up the restaurant. It felt like we stepped right in to a scene from Phantom of The Opera – the regal British atmosphere is second to none. The open kitchen makes the place less intimidating and we had fun exchanging banters with the chefs. The team of wait staff stands all around the space, ever ready to serve.

Be seated, have a drink, and the staff will brief you about how Beast Restaurant works. There is no menu. At £75 per person, you are in for a feast that is fit for even the biggest beast. Like many other things in London that will shock you with its price tag, this dinner is an indulgence, one that only those with a raw love for premium steak and Norwegian red king crab will covet. If you are willing to splurge, Beast Restaurant will promise you a theatrical and gastronomical experience.

And the night began with an appetiser of cheese platter for us. Presented in a hacked cheese wheel, dig in to crumbly good cheese and savour them with the accompanying olives and artichoke.

The succeeding salads come in different variations – every one so fresh and tasty. Beetroot and roasted potatoes, French beans and plump tomatoes, each salad came in a lovely portion and the plates fast filled our table. Refills are available and free of charge, and if you love beetroot as much as we do, one serving is definitely not enough.

But save some space for the stars of the show – Norwegian Red King Crab and Angus Beef. The sheer size of the crab was jaw-dropping for all of us at our table of four, and the slab of steak was so thick and perfectly medium rare – just the way we had wanted it. And we were to understand why the dinner was well worth the £75/pax we paid.

The king crab was the freshest we ever had, every leg so long with full chunks of sweet flesh. It was so good that we almost forgot that it came with condiments. We would suggest eating the crab on its own, but they taste marvellous too with the accompanying herb butter sauce and Thai sweet chili dip.

And we cannot get over how beastly the steak was! No pun intended. We spoke with the chefs and learned that each steak requires an average cooking time of 40 minutes – depending on the customer’s preferred doneness – and another 5 minutes of cooling down before it is served to pamper palates.

You get either a USDA Rib Eye or Striploin, or both if you have a group of four and more. The doneness can be done separately if not all diners have the same preference, but medium rare is the most ideal to fully enjoy the creaminess of the beef.

Think the show is over? Not really, because everyone needs some sugar for the soul. The daily desserts differ, but the mainstay – a very groundbreaking one – is the deconstructed cheesecake that we polished off despite the fact that we were already so bloated after our starters and mains. We were not told that desserts were to be served, but boy were we glad all the same. A very intricate creation, Beast Restaurant’s version of deconstructed cheesecake is presented like a work of art, and tasted better than it looked. Even our friend who is not usually a fan of sweets was wowed by it and couldn’t resist helping himself to more!

We went in starved, and left very stuffed. And very impressed with dinner. We love Beast Restaurant, as with Burger & Lobster. The owner is brilliant and he must feel so proud with two very successful concepts. The idea is to be so damn good at one thing, and leave people with no choice but to try it to complete their lives. And Beast Restaurant has done exactly just that.

The dining scene in London is very vibrant and there are so many good restaurants that it is almost impossible to keep up, even if you are living in the city. When I was doing my research for eating spots prior to the trip, one of the restaurants that kept popping out was Burger & Lobster – there are so many raved reviews about them online.

Of course, the question is: is the restaurant worth the hype? The answer is a big and undisputed YES. One of the most memorable meals that I had during my trip was at Burger & Lobster.

Tables at Burger & Lobster have been known to be hard to get – the waiting time is easily at least an hour or two. But when we were there in the middle of a weekday afternoon, we were very lucky as we only waited for 10 minutes.

The concept of Burger & Lobster is brilliant. There are only three items on the menu – burger, lobster and lobster roll – and at £20 each, they represent fantastic value. A whole fresh lobster grilled to perfection, a generous bowl of lemon butter dip, and served with a side salad and a bucket of fries – all for only £20? Forget about the burger, just go for the lobster or lobster roll.

The food is uncomplicated and nothing too fanciful – just delicious food that you can eat regularly. And the best part is dining here is actually fun. Everyone was having a great time.

Burger and Lobster has the winning formula: a sexy crowd, delicious cocktails, unpretentious and fun atmosphere, and brilliant food at unbeatable price. This would definitely be my top recommendation if you were to be in London for something special. It is a place where you can have a great time without breaking the bank.
