FLIPPER’S Singapore is opening its second outlet at Bugis Junction and it slated to open on 25 October 2021. The new outlet will have several new dishes which will be exclusive to the Bugis outlet.

For those of you who are not familiar with FLIPPER’S, it is a famous soufflé pancakes chain in Japan.

FLIPPER’S opened its first outpost in Singapore at Takashimaya Shopping Centre, Ngee Ann City in Nov 2020.

FLIPPER’S Singapore obtained its halal certification for the Takashimaya outlet in September last month and our Muslim friends can also enjoy their popular soufflé pancakes.

Here are some of the new items which are only available at FLIPPER’S Singapore new outlet at Bugis Junction:

• Honeycomb Butternut kiseki pancake
• Millennial pancake with daifuku
• Maple bacon and fried egg pancake
• Salmon avocado pancake

If you’ve never tried, soufflé pancakes melt-in-your-mouth and are just as tasty as they look. Basically, they’re so light and airy you can imagine yourself eating a pancake cloud.

We first announced the news of % Arabica opening in Singapore back in August last year and we are happy to report that the wait is finally over.

The ever so popular Kyoto coffee chain % Arabica has finally opened their doors in Singapore at Arab Street! And at a pretty apt location we’d say. Striving to let people “see the world through coffee” as their philosophy, they have currently 36 stores in 10 countries.

Taking up a corner shop space, the coffee shop is decked out in their signature minimalist white interior that is incredibly aesthetically pleasing. Serving up their specialty blends and single-origin coffees, we predict long queues for the next few days. Or months.

% Arabica prides themselves in quality coffee beans that are harvested from their own farm in Hawaii as well as sourced from around the world. Our blend Caffe Latte (S$7) in short was aromatic from perfectly roasted beans which were soothed by the mellow creaminess of the milk. There was a pleasant bitter aftertaste that was not too overwhelming on the palate too.

Next up was a very photogenic iced Matcha Latte (S$9.60) that had a beautiful gradient against the cup bearing their iconic % emblem. Earthy and smooth, % Arabica nailed the matcha to milk ratio, with the full-bodied milk harmonizing with the bitter notes of matcha.

Fans of % Arabica will be pleased to know that apart from an in-house coffee roaster where you can purchase their freshly roasted beans, you can also get your hands on a range of the brand’s merchandise as well.

Located at Bussorah Street, Lickety Ice Cream & Waffles—a new halal-owned dessert cafe by the team behind Fika Swedish Cafe & Bistro and Konditori Artisan Bakery—offers a pleasant array of ice cream and egglet waffles that will thrill the foodie in you.

Before we stepped into Lickety Ice Cream & Waffles, we were greeted by the ever so aesthetically pleasing Tiffany Blue that layered the exterior of this ice cream paradise. Decorated with pastel-coloured furniture and adorable ornaments, every corner of this cafe made for an Instagram-worthy shot.

Do note that seating at Lickety Ice Cream & Waffles is limited as there are only two tables with seats inside and outside the cafe.

You can enjoy their egglet waffles in two ways—Buttermilk and Red Velvet. Thereafter, choose from a selection of ice cream flavours such as Lingonberry Swirl and Hazelnut Rocher to enjoy with your waffle. Toppings you can pick from include crushed Oreo cookies and marshmallows.

1 scoop of ice cream with 1 topping and a waffle would cost you S$8.90 and 2 scoops, 2 toppings and a waffle would amount to S$11.90. All waffles come in a paper cup which makes it a convenient treat to have during your exploration of Haji Lane or even just to eat at the cafe.

We ordered the Red Velvet Waffle with a scoop of Hazelnut Rocher ice cream and Pocky sticks (S$8.90).

Aside from being an extremely pretty dessert, it was a pity that the waffle was not as crispy or “airy” as most egglet waffles usually are. Instead, it had a spongy texture similar to a regular waffle. Another thing that would have enhanced this dessert is if the red velvet taste of the waffle was not as muted.

We also tried the Buttermilk Waffle with one scoop of Thai Milk Tea ice cream and mini marshmallows (S$8.90). Just like the Red Velvet Waffle, the Buttermilk Waffle had a spongy texture but it fared slightly better.

For those of you who are familiar with the famous Oddies Foodies in Hong Kong, you might find that Lickety Ice Cream & Waffles has a rather similar concept. Lickety’s assembly of the dessert sure strikes a resemblance to the iconic Hong Kong dessert, except that Oddies Foodies’ version is a lot better.

But since nothing else in Singapore comes close, we’ll do with Lickety’s version whenever we have a hankering for some egglet waffle dessert.

EwF is known widely for their tasty yet affordable burgers, with prices as low as S$7.90. To complete a meal, you only have to top-up an additional S$2 for a serving of fries and a drink of choice. It is little wonder they’ve enjoyed popularity for as long as they have been around!

Now, EwF is back with new fries and burger options that are better than ever; think Shrimp Salsa Burger and Mexicana Fries. The other good news is the revamped EwF menu does not have any pork and lard!

THE FANTASTIC EWF BURGER IS GREATER NOW

As we were digging into the burger, we noticed the burger is slightly taller than before. We found out that EwF has decided to fatten up the beef patties in their signature burgers.

Yay to a bigger beef burger (S$7.90 for single patty, S$9.90 for double patty)!

HAR JEONG KAI NUGGETS

Perhaps unknown to some,EwF also serves the wicked Har Jeong Kai (prawn paste chicken) in bite-sized nuggets (S$6.90).

This deep-fried goodness is so tender and soft, with a lingering fragrance in the air and in our mouths, it makes us wonder why no one has done it before. But EwF is a genius; we are hooked to this already on the first bite.

SHRIMP SALSA BURGER

Meanwhile for the Shrimp Salsa Burger (S$7.90), we have a sea of salsa that sits atop a shrimp patty. We enjoyed the refreshing touch of salsa for it gave the burger a much-loved crunch. This burger is a relatively lighter option and with more veggies, and it is no surprise the females on our table loved it so.

CHAR-GRILLED CAJUN CHICKEN BURGER

If you are not a seafood person the Char-grilled Cajun Chicken Burger (S$7.90) is one to consider. It is built pretty similarly to the Shrimp Burger, with a chicken patty soaked with Cajun seasonings and accompanied by garlic aioli, green pesto and salsa.

SUPER CHEESY SLIDER

With all the magnificent burgers right in front of us, The Slider (S$7.90) also left us with an impression. At times when a typical burger is too big and messy to deal with, sliders come in to save our day.

The beef is well-marinated and shares its space with crispy turkey bacon and green pickles encased in a soft bun. Here comes the best part: the fillings are drenched in sticky, melty cheese.

EWF FRIES AS MAINS

Well, it is high time someone came up with this idea. Who said fries always have to be an accompaniment?

At EwF, fries are main courses too! Lunch can be a plateful of fries with Cajun Chicken on Fries (S$8.90) or Mexicana Fries (S$8,90) doused in cheese sauce. The Mexicana Fries come with fresh guacamole – which, of course, we couldn’t love more.

SUPER AWESOME EWF CHEESECAKE

EwF is also launching a dessert in conjunction with their reopening.

The Super Awesome EwF Cheesecake (S$6.50) is so soft upon slicing in, the cheesecake crumbs fall all over into a wonderful mess. The flavours are not overly intense, so this is also for non-cheese lovers! There was a slight salty note too, and it was only a matter of seconds before we devoured the creamy cake.

Pokémon Cafe is opening in Singapore this May 2016!

PARCO has recently announced that a pop-up Pokémon cafe will happen at Bugis Junction from 27 May 2016 to 31 July 2016. We can already predict a throng of hardcore fans queuing up, so mark down the dates in your calendar now to avoid disappointment!

The world’s very first pop-up Pokémon cafe in Japan was a roaring success with Pokémon lovers from all over the world flying in specially just to dine at the kawaii themed bistro.

And now, in Singapore, diners could literally teleport themselves into an epic fantasy realm of Pokémon World; enjoy a meal with life-size Pikachus and tuck into Pokémon savouries, sweets and whatnot.

The cafe is a collaboration with EWF, and it will feature 12 Pokémon themed dishes and a selection of merchandise. While not much information has been released about the menu, we are certain that every item would be irresistibly cute.

PARCO has also stated the possibility of a Pikachu mascot showing up during this two-month period at the pop-up Pokémon Cafe for photo taking opportunities – although nothing is quite set in stone yet.

As Pokémon fans ourselves, all we can hope for is that the pop-up cafe will eventually convert into a permanent one.

They are probably no strangers by now, for they have been dominating the social media platforms with their ultra adorable looking soft serve.

Soft serve is definitely here to stay and we are loving it. Those bright green coloured swirls of goodness that you have seen around? Yipe, they are amazing.

This comforting cafe reminds us a lot of Stateland Cafe – very minimal, warm and inviting. This simple concept is actually very refreshing. They did not overdo anything, nor did they try to fluff their interior and food; definitely something we appreciate very much.

We had the Classic (S$12.90) – which is soft serve with salted caramel, kinako powder, almond crunch and berries crisps. Every month, the folks at Brother Bird will whip up new flavours (two at a time, on a rotational basis) and we got a taste of two magnificent ones – Matcha & Cookie Butter.

On our plate, we were greeted by the ingenious ‘mochi donut’. Co-owner, lovingly nicknamed ‘Bird’, told us that when he first experimented with his donut recipes, he realised that the donut turned soggy very quickly with the soft-serve sitting on top. Hence, he used glutinous flour instead for the mochi-like texture, which is truly brilliant.

We picked a dual swirl of the two flavours to accompany our mochi donut, and it was topped off with crushed speculoos, kinako powder and crushed freeze-dried raspberries. All their toppings and condiments are freshly made in store.

We were amazed to see Matcha Lemonade (S$4.90) on the menu, two flavours that we never knew would go well together, but they did. However, it is definitely an acquired taste.

The bakery first went the e-commerce way with an Instagram account, after which their fame propelled and finally led to the opening of its current flagship store.

Fluff Bakery sells homemade cakes and interesting local fusion cupcake flavours. At S$4 a piece, these cupcakes are handcrafted with quality ingredients, and the freshness is evident.

Coveted flavours include the Ondeh Ondeh, Teh Tarik, Salted Caramel, Maple Pecan Creme Brulee and Horlicks. The menu changes weekly, so be sure to check the menu online before heading down to avoid disappointment.

The people at Fluff Bakery are passionate in what they do, and their love for cupcakes shone through every single cupcake. Don’t their creations just look so lovely?

The bakery operates from 12pm daily until they are sold out, so it is best you head down early if you are keen on bagging one of their yummy bakes home. We don’t need worms for being early because worms are icky, but we want our cupcakes.

Tucked away in a small corner of Crawford Lane – just next to Tolido’s Espresso Nook – And All Things Delicious stands out with their attractive storefront. Once you step in, you will feel a sense of warmth and comfort, both from the enchanting smell of freshly-baked pastries to the overall cosy vibe of this halal-certified cafe.

Displayed beautifully in the shop is an impressive array of desserts ranging from pastries, scones to cakes. They also have a savoury menu, where you can pick from a selection from quiches and more.

Because they specialise in mainly cakes and pastries, we suggest digging straight into their dessert selection because it can do no wrong.

The Sticky Toffee Pudding (S$5.90) was so well-made, we finished it in a few bites. While we were slightly apprehensive about the generous drizzle of toffee sauce, we came to realize that the sauce was actually just right and the sweetness did not overwhelm us. The sponge cake underneath was nice and fragrant with evenly grounded pieces of dates.

What we loved most about And All Things Delicious is how unpretentious it is; just simple and wholesome pastries and cakes that people of all ages would love. For afternoons, you can hop on down and grab some Scones (S$5 for 2) with a cup of Iced Latte (S$5.50) and unwind with a book.
