We know for a fact that we absolutely do not have to sell Bangkok, because it already is a top tourist destination for Singaporeans, especially. The airfares are affordable, food and shopping are similarly low-priced and everything about Bangkok just boasts an aura of awesomeness.

However, we also know that some people have their qualms about Bangkok and we are here to change that. Bangkok is so beautiful, we want you to see it too. Besides the shopping, food and all the well-known night markets, Bangkok has ancient temples, rich culture & heritage, and more!

Here are 16 Reasons to Love Bangkok, Thailand. You will definitely be booking your next trip by the end of this!

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

#1 AFFORDABLE MASSAGE & SPA

This is our favourite past-time in Bangkok and we do it almost everyday! Foot or full body massages are so affordable there (approx. S$10 or 250 baht) that we will never skip it when we visit this beautiful city. The masseuses are also very well-trained to really give you the best massages to relax your muscles and make you rid of any tension in your body.

#2 AFFORDABLE SEAFOOD MEALS

Seafood is generally pricey in Singapore. However in Bangkok, we can have a very big and satisfying full seafood dinner for about S$10 or so each. You can never find seafood prices like these in Singapore.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

#3 AFFORDABLE TRANSPORTATION

We all love Bangkok for this reason. Whether you’re grabbing a taxi or tuk tuk, they’re all extremely inexpensive. However, remember to insist on them turning on the meter to not get conned!

#4 AMAZING STREET FOOD

We don’t know about you, but the street food in Bangkok is to-die-for to us! Everything is so tasty and flavoured so well that we sometimes skip meals just to eat a variety of street food (so much so that it fills our tummy up!). Quail eggs, deep-fried squid, roadside Phad Thai – we are hungry just thinking about it.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

#7 CONVENIENCE STORES

Strangely enough, we visit the 7/11 in Bangkok, more often than we would admit. Do you know a delicious pre-made and packed Thai Basil Chicken Rice is only barely S$1 there? And it’s really good too, trust us on that! Everything else from bottled drinks to snack are all generally much cheaper than in Singapore.

#8 COOL CAFES & COFFEE HOUSES IN BANGKOK

Bangkok is also no stranger to the cafe scene with popular destinations such as Karmakamet and its iconic candy floss desserts, and others such as After You and Mr. Jones’ Orphanage, offering affordable and delicious cafe fare.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

#9 EVERYWHERE IS EASILY ACCESSIBLE

We like that it is easy to get to anywhere in Bangkok. Not once, were we ever lost. The roads might look messy but all the cab and tuk tuk drivers we’ve had, never had a problem.

#10 FRIENDLY LOCALS

Of course we will bump into rude and uncouth people any where in the world, but we are sure that Bangkok has some of the nicest and most polite locals around who will take the time to chat with you, even if they are not proficient in English – something that really warms our heart.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

There is nothing spectacular to shout about when it comes to Pee Aor’s simple interior design but that is precisely why we love the place. The Thai eatery focuses all its attention on whipping up excellent local dishes which are comforting and reminds us of home.

Lobster Tom Yum Goong is available in two sizes—regular (THB999/S$41.11) and large (THB1200/S$49.38). We went for the latter and it came in a giant bowl filled halfway with lobster, crabs, mussels, a large piece of salmon, fresh squid, an egg and silky rice noodles.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

The tangy and spicy broth was extremely flavourful and reflects the true Thai-style tom yum soup. We could taste a hint of the lemongrass which they added into the soup—an essential ingredient found in all authentic Tom Yum Goong dishes.

There were hits and misses when it comes to the ingredients. The lobster and salmon boasts good flavour, but we felt that they were a tad underwhelming when compared to the rest.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

On the flip side, we loved the fleshy crabs most as the meat was tender and came with a decent amount of roe. The mussels also left a deep impression on us as they were not just fresh but incredibly plump as well!

So is Pee Aor’s Lobster Tom Yum Goong Noodle worth the hype? It is not bad, but at THB999, we find it too expensive for a local Thai eatery. We’d say that it is a dish that you can consider trying once for the novelty. And if you are feeling rich.

Just a few months shy of its first birthday, Shinsen Fish Market is supposedly inspired by and modelled after Taipei’s Addiction Aquatic Developments.

The modern fish market in Sukhumvit is a must-visit when you next visit Bangkok. Here’s everything to love about Shinsen Fish Market.

Live aquamarine and sea creatures in tanks, fresh Japanese fruits and vegetables, wine cellar and all sorts of Japanese choya & sake, hot food stations and sushi bars, some good steaks… these are but a few highlights of Shinsen Fish Market.

The establishment seeks to provide seafood lovers one space where seafood-everything is congregated and you can find almost anything you need—live products, fresh produce, cooked dishes etc.

When at Shinsen Fish Market, you must have a taste of the freshest seafood. Grab a seat at one of the bar counters; they don’t differ much, and the menu revolves mainly around sushi, sashimi and cooked food. And what we’d highly recommend is the live seafood.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

Sitting on the second level of The Taste Thonglor, Endo Sushi is a lot posher than its humble space in Osaka Central Fish Market. The seating capacity is a lot bigger as well, and the restaurant is segmented. Pick from counter seats where you can watch the chefs in action, individual tables of 4, and private rooms.

The menu differs slightly too. From appetisers to main courses, everything is as Japanese as it can get.

Of course, you have the classic Endo Sushi sushi platter. Each set is THB480, and it comes with five pieces per platter. We went with Sets A and D, and loved every single piece from Set A that we had to get another serving.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

Set A includes a piece of the much-coveted Toro sushi—fatty tuna that is so creamy with a melt-in-the-mouth texture; something that Endo Sushi is known for.

While prices are significantly higher than its original Osaka branch—THB480 (S$18.80) as compared to ¥1,050 (S$13.90)—you should still go ahead with that little splurge at Endo Sushi.

The freshness is unrivalled, and the high standards the chefs hold for their sushi is definitely worth appreciating.

Little Bao – a modern Chinese diner in Hong Kong – shot to fame with its signature mini sliders, sharing plates and cocktails since its opening in Hong Kong three years ago.

Chef and owner May Chow is now bringing Little Bao to Bangkok – its first overseas outpost. Like the original Little Bao in Hong Kong, the new Little Bao in Bangkok follows the same formula by dishing out familiar and sexy renditions of our Asian favourites over the counter and in many unpredictable and refreshing manners.

Little Bao in Bangkok will sit in Thonglor, and it features an identical menu as its original in Sheung Wan, Hong Kong. You can find the famous Baos (THB240) such as Pork Belly, Sichuan Chicken and Fish Tempura.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

Sharing dishes include Scallop & Chips (THB240), Fried Cauliflower (THB240), Orange Chicken (THB240) with Salted Egg Yolk, and Truffle Fries (THB290).

And of course, nobody leaves Little Bao without having its Ice Cream Bao (THB120). It is so iconic that it is now synonymous with the hippie brand.

Fans of Little Bao can also have their cocktail fix in Bangkok with the Yuzu Leaf and Punch Sai Gua cocktails. There is also a range of Japanese craft beers, sakes and wines from Little Bao Bar.

Little Bao is a place that is full of energy, and is the kind of swanky spot which will easily fit into the linear of New York or London. And we are sure it will soon become one of the hottest dining destinations in Bangkok.

Now, May, can you bring Little Bao to Singapore too? We are jealous.

The EmQuartier is one of the most gorgeous shopping malls in Bangkok, Thailand. The EmQuartier is part of the EM District, and just when you think it is yet another shopping mall with all the predictable luxury brands, think again.

Comprising three buildings – Helix Quartier, Glass Quartier and Waterfall Quartier - The EmQuartier is a lifestyle mall that will meet all your shopping, lifestyle and dining needs. The three buildings are differentiated by their concepts and tenant mix, and the Helix Quartier has a secret world to offer.

We’ve always been a big fan of EmQuartier’s Gourmet Market – A Taste of Gastronomic Sophistication with products sourced from throughout Thailand and around the world.

Other than the Gourmet Market, what most people may not know is The Helix – a different zone that sits on level 6 to 9 in Helix Quartier. It is a whole new world up there, with the best restaurants and F&B kiosks that totally left us in awe.

The next time you are in Bangkok, drop by EmQuartier and have your meal(s) at The Helix – which is truly a Dining Extraordinaire. Here are 10 Hidden Gems To Dine At in The EmQuartier in Bangkok.

BELLA ROCCA

This is one of the most stunning restaurants in The EmQuartier and it is one of those perfect spots for a romantic date. Bella Rocca’s sexy atmosphere includes dark elements – from the furniture to the decor.

Bella Rocca focuses on dishing out contemporary Italian cuisine and its classic pastas such as Aglio Olio and Vongole are priced at THB260. We loved the Porcini Mushroom Risotto (THB580) with pan-fried sea bass too. There is also a Warm Chocolate Lava Cake (THB220) if you need some sweets to end off your date.

BULGOGI BROTHERS

Bulgogi Brothers should be a familiar name for those who visit South Korea regularly. Known for serving quality bulgogi and a wide selection of Korean dishes, Bulgogi Brothers is one of the few Korean restaurants in The EmQuartier.

Bulgogi Brothers is all the rage because it is home to a very satisfying pot of Korean Army Stew (THB550), and the King’s Bibimbap (THB350) with beef is a satisfying one-dish wonder if you need a quick meal. The Bulgogi Brothers Special (300g for THB465) is one fantastic K-BBQ that features well-marinated fresh meat that is tender and flavourful.

CRAB & CLAW

Crab & Claw is essentially a New England-style seafood shack that has a menu made up of sustainable seafood. Lobsters are imported live from Maine, U.S.A., and you can have them in three ways – Steamed with Drawn Butter (THB1,900 for 700gram), Grilled with Garlic and Butter (THB1,900 for 700gram), or Baked in Organic Uni Butter and topped with Uni Roe and Flying Fish Roe (THB2,300 for 700gram).

The other dish that you must try at Crab & Claw is the New England style C&C Lobster Roll (THB950). Lobster rolls are all the rage in Bangkok now, and Crab & Claw’s version features big lobster pieces that are not cut up so as to retain its freshness. For sharing, get the communal pots – Crab Boil (THB1,200) or Crab Bucket (THB1,300).

EMACK & BOLIO

Wanna have some ice cream party? Then it has to be at Emack & Bolio! Over at this little kiosk, you get to build the towers of your dreams – with ice cream, of course. Some of our favourite flavours include Cake Batter, Peach, Deep Purple Cow, Salted Caramel Chocolate Pretzel, S’mores with Oreos and Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup.

Regular size comes with two scoops (THB190), while the Large comes with three scoops (THB250). Stack your ice cream scoops on waffle cone (THB25), chocolate cone (THB50), or marshmallow cone (THB70).

FULL FLAVOUR

Full Flavour is a gorgeous bistro, and it is among the most photogenic. It is one of those spots where you would cosy up with a book and enjoy a meal while resting your feet in between shopping.

WIth a menu that focuses on traditional Thai food – prices start from THB130 – Full Flavour is well-loved by locals for its strong flavours (full flavour, indeed) and spiciness. The Yen Ta Fo is what you must try here, as it is as authentic as it can get. Primarily made with tofu, Yen Ta Fo is a steamboat dish that comes in a personal pot with pink soup that is naturally coloured, alongside ingredients such as meatballs, liver and vegetables.

LA MONITA

La Monita is a sexy Mexican establishment that offers a menu with a variety of quintessential Mexican staples including Ceviche (THB240), Taco (THB125), Quesadilla (THB290) and Fajita (THB750).

Our choice of drink at La Monita? The wicked Margarita – perfect to go along with the Tacos and Fajita. Yes, you must try the tacos. They come with several types of fillings – from duck breast to beef tongue to mushrooms. And we have to say that we really like the outdoor al fresco spot which offers a quiet respite from the city.

MAN FU YUAN

Singapore’s very own Man Fu Yuan has opened in Bangkok. The posh outlet also sits within The Helix, and it is where your folks who cannot live without Chinese cuisine will truly enjoy.

You can expect the signature dishes such as the roasts and dim sum (THB100 to THB145), and the Classic Tea Smoked Duck (THB350) was exceptionally memorable.

SAVA DINING ROOM

The man behind Sava Dining Room is the founder of popular label Asava – Polpat Asavaprapha. The restaurant is an absolute stunner, because the leading Thai designer wouldn’t produce anything less. The whole idea behind Sava Dining is luxury home-cooked meal using locally and internationally sourced produce.

SHIO YOSHOKU

Shio Yoshoku is one of the pricier outlets, but it is well worth paying to dine there. Fine cuisine and elegant environment; that’s what you would get. ‘Yoshoku’ refers to the style of Western-influenced cooking which originated during the Meiji Restoration; which is what this Japanese-fusion restaurant prides itself for.

Standouts include Salmon Tartare (THB350), Duck and Waffle (THB490), Squid Ink Pasta with prawn and scallop. And the Lobster Mac & Cheese with Truffle is not to be missed. We also had the most amazing Japanese beef here. Shio Yoshoku is such an indulgence, indeed.

THE CHOP

Right next to Bella Rocca on the top level of EmQuartier Helix, The Chop is another one of those places you would bring a date to for a romantic meal. The dimly lit space creates a mysterious yet inviting environment, with each table comfortably spaced out for privacy.

We liked the Surf & Turf Combo (THB990) and Chop Original Burger (THB320), and there are several steaks for you carnivores and that includes Striploin (THB1,480), Ribeye (THB890) and Tenderloin (THB890).

This Tom Yum UFO from Sansab Restaurant has been making waves in Bangkok, and it is one of the more commonly photographed food dish on Instagram these days,

In case you are wondering what it is, it really is a simple steamboat of sorts, with additional ingredients on the side. Is it really that worth the hype though?

We made a trip to the restaurant during our recent trip to Bangkok, and here’s our take.

San Sab is a pretty comfortable restaurant that sits on level 4 of Siam Paragon. It is spacious, brightly lit, and has booth seats for big groups.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

Its regular menu is unassuming – your regular Thai dishes, occasional inserts of random Western dishes, and a whole menu of sweet and colourful drinks that you would typically see in Bangkok. Nothing too out of the norm.

But the recent introduction of this Tom Yum UFO got everyone going gaga over. More than just a steamboat, it has four separate pockets on the circumference of the pot, and in its pocket are complements to the steamboat.

The UFO comes in three variations – all meat (THB499), regular seafood (THB579) and premium seafood (THB799). Whichever variation you are going to order, they all come with the extra ingredients on the outside – cheese, corn, quail eggs and seaweed soup.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

San Sab probably got this inspiration from famous K-bbq Kang Ho Dong Baekjeong, which is famous for the addition of cheese, corn and steamed eggs on the outer pockets of their grills.

Unfortunately, the whole pot didn’t taste as good as it looked in pictures. We went for the premium seafood version, but it was not worth THB799 at all. The big prawns as pictured were far from fresh, and while the tom yum soup tasted decent, it was nothing much to shout about. But we made ours a tad better by adding the cheese to the soup, and the melted goodness added a nice sweetness to the soup.

Stick to the regular version and don’t bother “splurging” on the expensive version. It still makes a fun meal with pals, and its location makes it a convenient spot for a quick dinner.

The Commons at Thonglor is Bangkok’s Hottest Destination right now.

With 28 restaurants, cafes and shops to boast, it is an enchanting space in Thonglor that opened its doors to public in January 2016. It is not “just another mall”; it is a community, and a way of life to the guys who envisioned and built The Commons.

“Our intention is to build first a community, then a mall. We want to become Thonglor’s backyard – a gathering ground for specialized producers and their customers. We hope to promote wholesome living and a true sense of community.”

With the words of the founder of The Commons, you know this is where you should be.

At The Commons, one should first know that going with an empty stomach and a thirsty desire to explore is necessary. For one, The Commons is anything but common and conventional.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

The beef comes in different cuts such as sirloin (THB170), under-rib (THB350) ribeye (THB 450), Australian Wagyu (THB 550), and Kobe (THB950). You pick your preferred cut, then choose the carbs add-on. There’s a choice of Japanese steamed rice, but the wiser choice is to go for noodles (both flat and slim ones work) that comes in a bowl of fragrant, savoury broth.

There is also a traditional beef broth noodles (THB85) option – which is a friction of the cost of the premium beef noodles.

We went for the Ribeye Beef Noodles and it sure lived up to expectations. The ribeye beef came soaked in a bowl of warm and rich beef broth. Every slice was slightly under cooked with its marbling well retained.

Everything was gone in a flash. Killed it in less than five. Our only gripe was the small portions and we’d probably need at least two bowls to be full.

Continue filling yourselves up, we say! That was what we did.

Beef rice bowls, darling. Glorious beef rice bowls!

Nuer Koo’s Australian Wagyu Rice Bowl (THB 570) has their own version with slices of (slightly overcooked) beef and sweet onions. Not too keen on well done beef, and maybe that’s why the beef bowl disappointed us a little. And there could have been a runny onsen egg too. Nonetheless, still a decent one if noodles ain’t your thing.

The beef noodles may be pricey by Bangkok’s standard, but by its quality and taste, it is still considerably reasonable, especially when we are talking about premium beef cuts such as wagyu and kobe.
