Folie Kitchen & Patisserie has been gaining popularity and it is not hard to understand why. The gorgeous space sits in Canggu, Bali and it is the new it spot for dining and OOTDs.

Well, these days, these factors come hand in hand for travellers who cafe-hop on holidays, and the Bali restauranteurs are definitely upping their game to stay in trend.

Folie Kitchen & Patisserie is helmed by a French chef who has relocated to Bali and brought along with him his passion and flair for French culinary. You can expect nothing short of a good meal.

The restaurant is split into two parts—indoor seating and alfresco. Upon stepping in, what you won’t miss is its iconic wall painting that is really a myriad of patterns splashed across in striking hues. This wall is no stranger on Instagram now and a quick search would lead you to thousands of OOTDs taken against this Folie wall.

The indoor seating area is a cosy one, with small tables for couples and long ones for bigger groups. At the back of the restaurant is the outdoor alfresco area, and the pastel blue booth seats are set against a pretty pastel pink wall, making it the perfect setting for photos too!

On the food menu, expect mainly French fare such as fresh Nicoise Salad, Croque Monsieur, Pan-seared Foie Gras, Beef Stroganoff and a whole range of hearty pasta. They may not be the cheapest but the quality of the cooking cannot be denied; it is, if any, one of the best restaurants in Canggu.

The dessert selection is extensive too. We were spoilt for choices; it was like we were transported to France. Expect an array of French classics such as lemon meringue tart, eclairs in a range of flavours, madeleine, croissants, banoffee etc.

If dining on the table is too basic, well, you can now dine in the pool at Cabina Bali. We kid you not; brunch is served on a tray that floats on the in-house pool and you dine from the pool. Sounds cool already?

Cabina Bali also has many OOTD spots to boast, so pack along your cutest bikini and prettiest dress for a trip to this tropical paradise in Canggu!

Cabina Bali is a tropical paradise with lots of palm trees, deck chairs, fairy lights, a bar and the coolest vibe. There is also a pool that sits in the middle of the space, and that is where the floating brunch happens.

The Floating Brunch Experience happens from 9am to 12pm, and it costs IDR180,000 per person and IDR350,000 for a pair. Reservations are highly recommended to avoid disappointment.

Every set comes with coffee/ tea, a glass of pressed juice served in a pineapple, a main and a dessert.  There are vegan and gluten-free options, too.

We have to say that the food wasn’t the most impressive. It was the novelty of the idea that attracted us (and the world). You do not even have to bring your own towels; Cabina Bali will provide you with fresh ones once you are done dining in the pool.

Its regular all-day menu is a comprehensive one that includes a huge selection of breakfast items, salads, sandwiches, tapas, and pasta.

Coffee is good here, and you’d be happy to know that Cabina Bali works with ST. ALi Melbourne to serve specialty coffee. The daily Happy Hour happens from 5pm to 8pm, where you enjoy 1-for-1 cocktails.

Bali has no lack of cafes, especially in the Seminyak area.

Seminyak is every cafe-hopper’s dream, and it just got better with the addition of KYND Community in the Jalan Petitinget area.

Of smoothie bowls, cold-pressed juices, salads and coffee, KYND Community is an Australian-owned cafe that has something for you all day long and needs to be on your itinerary.

With a distinct pink and green interior and a now iconic OOTD wall that has dominated social media feeds, KYND Community prides themselves as a plant-based cafe that aims to showcase just how wonderful plants can taste. Gone are the days when vegetarian food is just boring vegetables; vegans don’t have to lead a sad life when there are more options for plant-based food.

KYND Community encourages healthy eating without compromising on taste, and we love how they say “by living a plant-based lifestyle, you are not only making a positive impact on the planet but you age slower, have way more energy and look even better naked!”

Very true.

So, what is on their menu?  We see lots of smoothie bowls on every table so that is evidently what is most popular. Indeed, their smoothies bowls didn’t disappoint. They weren’t the best we’ve tried in Seminyak but they made us feel good nonetheless. There are only two kinds—Berry Tropical and Green & Grind, both at RP73,000. We went for the former and it tasted predominantly like dragonfruit, with nuances of sweetness from the bananas and strawberries. Topped off with granola, gluten-free option is also available upon request.

There is also a wide range of beverages—from your regular latte and mocha in both hot and iced versions, plant-based milk, milkshakes, smoothies to chai lattes. The juice menu is even more impressive. A whole list of house creations awaits, and there are what they call “elixirs”—essentially shots that boost your immunity.

And if you want something more substantial to fill your tummies, KYND Community will have you covered with their range of toasts, salads, waffles and brunch fare.

We will definitely be back at KYND Community for more wholesome goodness!

There is no lack of pretty cafes in Bali but one newbie in Seminyak deserves a special mention—Coffee Cartel.

This cafe has been getting so much attention on Instagram and it is not difficult to understand why. The cafe is MADE for Instagram with its numerous photo opportunities—from OOTD corners, a huge mural to the prettiest food and drinks.

We paid a visit to this LA-inspired cafe and here’s what we loved about Coffee Cartel, Bali.

We have to, however, admit that upon stepping into the indoor dining area, we were pretty underwhelmed. The main dining area on the first level of the cafe is pretty dull; minimal efforts were taken to “beautify” the place.

The saving grace of the first level is the outdoor seats, complete with patterned floor tiles and marble tables. That’s where most of the food shots you see on Instagram were taken.

There is also a little outdoor area at the back of the cafe where a fake dining table is set up. Well, you can really sit there if you wish to but the cacti in the background are huge—if it doesn’t bother you.

On the second level of Coffee Cartel is a quaint, home-like space with couch seats and an outdoor “balcony”.

The menu is definitely one to love. Much thoughts have been put into curating a wholesome, (relatively) healthy Aussie-style selection. You can expect a whole range of fresh juices and smoothie bowls, coffee and flavoured lattes, salads and brunch mains, as well as interesting Indonesia-influenced dishes.

You have to go for the smoothie bowl. We tried the Pink Smoothie Bowl (IDR 65,000) and it was fresh and refreshing. And very photogenic; that’s what we all care about too, right?

There is also the Zucchini & Corn Fritters that is a very typical Australian-style brunch dish and Coffee Cartel did it well. Generous pieces of fritters were complemented with a side of mashed avocado and chilli salsa, all for IDR 60,000.

The Mie Goreng Crumbed Chicken Burger (IDR 75,000) may sound weird at first, but it deserves a mention too. As the name suggests, the chicken patty comes with a Mie Goreng Crumb and it is accompanied by tomato, smashed avo and sambal mayo.

And forget regular coffee, you all. Go for the Pink Beetroot Latte (IDR 35,000) or the Turmeric Latte (IDR 35,000). Sure, besides making your social media feeds pretty, these naturally-flavoured lattes are actually very light yet tasty!

Biku—known for its traditional Indonesian classics and afternoon tea—is one of our all-time favourite Indonesian restaurants in Seminyak, Bali. While the naysayers may argue that Biku is touristy and only caters to the foreigners, the food and ambience are excellent; it is a place that we always visit every time we are in Bali.

Opened throughout the day, the restaurant is also a tea lounge during the day where ladies love to gather for afternoon tea with cakes and a wide array of tea selections from China, India and Indonesia. Their lunch and dinner menus are primarily inspired by Indonesian flavours but Biku does not shy away from infusing international culinary influences either.

Set in a 150-year-old teak joglo (Javanese wooden house), Biku blends rustic style with luxury—think wooden pillars, glistening chandeliers, vintage dark reddish brown furniture and heavy drapes in red.

Lighting is dim at night and candles are placed on every table to create a lovely, romantic ambience for diners. The setting is perfect for a dinner date or even family dinner with your loved ones.

Biku makes wonderful Indonesian classics and one item you should order from the a la carte menu is their Nasi Campur A’la Biku (RP55,000/ S$5.50). The filling dish came with rice, two types of vegetables, shredded spicy chicken, spicy egg, beef rendang, satay lilit chicken, tofu and tempe.

We were addicted to the juicy shredded spicy chicken and satay lilit chicken which came with a hint of lemongrass flavour. If you are someone who can take spicy, mix all the side dishes with their homemade chilli sauce because Nasi Campur tastes best with Indonesian chilli!

Another dish that left a great impression on us was the Nasi Goreng Special (RP48,000/ S$4.80). It is an Indonesian-style fried rice and the one at Biku comes with chicken sate, krupuk and fried egg. It is a simpler dish compared to the Nasi Campur A’la Biku but we enjoyed the fragrant fried rice just the same.

Other Indonesian dishes to look forward to are Mixed Sate (RP55,000/ S$5.50), Babi Kecap (RP60,000/ S$6.60) and Mie Goreng (RP43,000/ S$4.30). For variety, Biku also offers Western mains such as burgers and sandwiches.

KILN Petitenget in Bali is the choice destination for every occasion—gathering with friends, lunch with your family and even a romantic date with your partner in the evening.

Taking over the space of the now-defunct Petitenget, KILN Petitenget’s food menu is designed with inspiration from Eastern Mediterranean influences and diners can expect to munch on wood oven baked flatbreads, chargrilled skewers, various dips and more.

Give KILN Petitenget a chance and you will see why it is a great addition to Seminyak’s lively food and nightlife scene.

You may be surprised to find out that KILN Petitenget is actually the brainchild of a young Singaporean, Nicholas Scorpion and his partner Morgan McGlone, an Australian celebrity chef.

They started this venture with an aim at providing a space where only good vibes and the best Balinese culinary practices can be found at one destination.

We started our meal with the Grilled Beef Cevapi (RP70,000++/ S$7++). For those who are unaware of what a Cevapi is, the dish is usually made of grilled minced meat. The savoury beef is enhanced with spicy red pepper relish and topped off with onions and a dollop of sour cream.

Of course, we did not skip their signature skewers which came fresh off the charcoal grills. While we preferred the Grilled Beef Cevapi, their Pork Neck (RP60,000++/ S$6++) and Chicken (RP55,000++/ S$5++) skewers are decent and worth a try. It is recommended to pair the skewers with beer or cocktails on tap.

Other food choices you may be interested in include Wood-Fired Pita (RP30,000++/ S$3++), Smashed Roti Prata (RP30,000++/ S$3++) and Grilled Barramundi Wrap (RP65,000/ S$6.50++).

Kim Soo is a lifestyle and retail space in Seminyak, Bali.

What attracts the great throngs of visitors to Kim Soo is the remarkable range of homewares sourced across the Indonesian Archipelago and works of art that are manufactured by the brand itself.

The place will draw you in inexplicably and keep you lingering for hours as you explore the corners of the charming shop and rest your weary feet at their in-house cafe. If you are up for anything bohemian and contemporary, Kim Soo is one place to note down for your next Bali itinerary.

Visitors are welcomed by a treasure trove of homewares and interior decorations the moment they step into Kim Soo. It is a homemaker’s heaven—you can find everything from wooden carvings, ceramics, chopping boards and kitchenware to cushions and rugs.

Wander around the shop and you will find plenty of OOTD-worthy spots against the monochrome backdrop, Grecian patterned tiles, and marble tables. In fact, the place looks almost like a villa, complete with a turquoise splash pool at the back of the retail space.

When you are ready for a drink and some light bites, head to Cafe Kim Soo which is just beside the retail section. Food selection is kept simple and you can expect to see French Toast, Pumpkin and Garlic Quiches and a range of cakes as part of the menu.

Out of the few Kim Soo Handmade Cakes, we chose the Lemon Pound Cake (RP39,000/ S$3.90). The cake was light and had just the right amount of moisture without it being too dry. We could taste the zesty lemon flavours infused in the pound cake as well.

If you are looking for more options besides the Lemon Pound Cake, why not try their Choc Coconut Slice (RP20,000/ S$2), Carrot Cake (RP35,000/ S$3.50) or their signature Kim Soo Chocolate Cake (RP39,000/ S$3.90)?

EatWell is a casual eatery among the many boutiques and restaurants along Jalan Basangkasa in Seminyak, Bali. Do be warned this is a place for meat lovers only as their menu specialises in a range of quality Australian steaks, pork dishes, and burgers that start from RP100,000/ S$10.

Popular among both locals and tourists, its no-frills concept focusing on affordable, yet delicious food adheres strictly to the restaurant’s slogan—to live well is to EatWell (eat well). Yes, happiness can be that simple. 

The interior is kept fuss-free with vintage filament bulbs and long wooden tables that are great for sharing among groups. If you are escaping from the heat, head for the indoor air-conditioned dining area instead.

EatWell has a fine range of steaks and you can get the Sirloin Steak for RP100,000/ S$10. We find this a steal considering the large cut of beef steak you get with a potato side of your choice (gratin, mashed or fries). Accompanying the main dish is creamy sauteed spinach and blue cheese sauce.

To be honest, we were slightly taken aback by the dark reddish colour of our medium rare steak when it was cut in the middle but our concerns were completely unfounded. The meat was juicy and flavourful on every bite and left us wanting more.

Next up, one of our favourites at EatWell—Crispy Pork Belly (200g for RP120,000/ S$12, 100g for RP70,000/ S$7). The succulent pork belly was so crispy, we could hear them cracking in our mouths as we bite. Those who prefer it spicy can dip the pork belly into chilli mayo sauce for the fiery kick.

The EatWell Burger (RP65,000/ S$6.50) came with 200g Australian minced wagyu beef patty, fries and homemade mayo sauce. You can get that or make it even better with homemade crispy bacon (RP15,000/ S$1.50), mozzarella cheese (RP15,000/ S$1.50) and egg (RP12,000/ S$1.20).

That’s not all! You also have other meat options including EatWell Special Steak (RP140,000/ S$14), Pork Knuckle (RP240,000/ S$24) and Grilled Chicken (RP65,000/ S$6.50).

Avocado Cafe is the answer to all health junkies who are looking for a vegan cafe in Bali serving fresh, organic meals. It sits in Canggu, and though it may take a little travelling from the main areas of Seminyak and Kuta, we are telling you it is worth it.

The waffle has a very light taste; you could almost taste the “organic-ness” in it. Boasting a mild sweetness, it is accompanied with fresh avo slices and a dollop of sour cream on top.

Acai bowls are often the top-of-mind dessert when it comes to health food. Of beautiful presentation and a slew of health benefits, they generally contain ingredients that help to enhance the functions of your nervous system.

Avocado Cafe’s Acai Green Bowl (RP85,000/ S$8.50) is essentially an acai and banana spinach mix topped off with dragonfruit, chia seed, homemade vanilla granola, toasted cashew nuts and mango. Very refreshing, very satisfying.

Those who are looking for something classic to fill their stomachs can go for the Avocado Eggs II (RP64,000/ S$6.40). Note that ‘II’ is the most lavish option as you get two poached eggs atop mashed avocado on toasted bread. This is all made better with a touch of roasted sesame and feta.

Be welcomed by the outdoor bar at the foot of Panama Kitchen & Pool. Grab a drink, have a sip of your cocktail then head into the gorgeous space. Get your cameras ready.

You will be transported to Mykonos right away. With a predominant blue and white decor, Panama Kitchen & Pool is a photo spot at every corner. Swirl and twirl in your maxi dress, change into your bikini and plunge into the pool, or read a book on one of the many deck chairs. That is what the idyllic life at Panama Kitchen & Pool is all about.

There is a minimum spend (approximately RP70,000) per person but don’t worry too much about that because there is surely something on the menu for you. Drink options are aplenty and if you are not after anything alcoholic, go for the milkshakes or juices.

On the food menu, there is the Eggs Ben that is a classic favourite and comes with a beautiful, runny egg yolk for that mandatory #eggporn shot. Otherwise, there is also the Pulled Pork Sandwich that we loved.

Panama Kitchen & Pool redefines a cafe experience in Bali and it is one hangout we will definitely visit again and again.

Hailing from Sydney, Mrs Sippy is the hottest pool club, restaurant and bar in Seminyak, Bali right now.

Step into Mrs Sippy Bali and you would feel as though you are on another island. Known for its fantastic saltwater pools and dive tower, the modern pool club features a man-made beach, tall palm trees and comfortable day beds. Treat yourself to a tipple at the bar and satisfy your tummy with grub from their open-air kitchen.

Oh, and did we mention that the party never stops there?

With resident international DJ’s playing on a weekly basis and exciting events filling up their calendar, there is no reason why this is not one of the coolest place to be seen at. If you are feeling confident, head for their 5m diving platform and get your friend to take a Boomerang video of your dive!

Drinks such as the classic margarita, martini and wine are best enjoyed at the open bar, located beside the pools. Guests can get an alcoholic beverage for (RP120,000/ S$12), which we find rather decent for the ambiance you are getting.

Obviously, you should not miss out on lounging on these huge inflatable pool floats too. There are various designs available with the magical unicorn being the crowd favourite. These make for incredible pictures which will level up your Instagram game!

If pool floats are not your thing, why not rest on these day beds instead? Sip onto champagne or nibble on finger food while you chill the day or night away.

Those who are looking for something more substantial can try their Fish & Chips (RP110,000/ S$11). We enjoyed the crispy beer-battered skin and juicy fish meat which taste better with tartare mayo and a few drops of lemon.

Another item you may want to consider is Chicken Burger (RP100,000/ S$10). Ours came in a beautiful presentation with grilled chicken, guacamole, red cabbage, lettuce, tomato and spiced up with spicy mayo.

It is no secret that Bali is home to some of the best cafes and restaurants. While we enjoyed visiting all the cafes that we have been to on our trip to Seminyak, one place that won all our hearts in an instant is NOOK, a gorgeous local eatery overlooking breathtaking views of the paddy fields.

What we love about NOOK is that the cafe is tucked away from the bustling Seminyak area, but still within walking distance to the main street. Escape from the crowd and enjoy some traditional Indonesian delights that do not lose out to those you will find in warungs.

NOOK is busiest during the day, as visitors are able to take in beautiful views of the paddy fields and even pose for some pictures with the green pastures as their backdrops. Head over in the evening to catch a magnificent sunset during good weather.

NOOK’s Nasi Goreng Ayam (RP45,000/ S$4.50) was decent, but it paled in comparison to the signature Nasi Campur.

Nasi Campur Special (RP49,000/ S$4.90) is our favourite dish at NOOK—in fact, it is the one of the best Nasi Campur we have tried in Bali. Every side dish is so delicious and diners get a variety of mixed meat, vegetables, tempeh and egg given in bite-sized portions.

We would travel all the way to NOOK just to eat the Nasi Campur.

Another dish to try at NOOK is Ayam Betutu (RP55,000/ S$5.50). This is a traditional Balinese dish featuring steamed chicken cooked in bumbu betutu, a type of spice mix. It was full-flavoured and we enjoyed every morsel.

We love Bali for a sheer number of reasons; its beautiful beach clubs, serene rice paddies, mouthwatering Balinese cuisine, therapeutic body massages and more. But the highlight of our recent trip to Bali was the strenuous hike up Mount Batur – an active volcano located 1,717 metres above sea level – where we caught the most gorgeous sunrise in our entire lifetime.

Like most other travellers, we wanted to catch the glorious sun rising from the horizon and that meant we had to start our ascent at an unearthly 4am in complete darkness. Armed with nothing but a mini torchlight, we navigated our way up the unpaved mountain. The route was extremely steep and narrow, and we urge those suffering from scotophobia and acrophobia to think twice.

But trust us, the high from watching the stunning sunrise is absolutely worth the physical pain. From sacrificing sleep, hiking in pitch darkness to wearing appropriate clothing, here are 9 Things One Should Expect and Prepare For When Trekking Up Mount Batur Before Sunrise.

#1 IT IS TOUGH AND NOT FOR EVERYONE

We don’t want to give you false hopes and claim that the hike is easy because it really isn’t. The entire trek covers approximately 12.5 kilometres and it would take slightly more than two hours to reach the summit. Getting down the mountain is even more challenging as the descent is characterised by slippery scree fields, broken rock fragments and steep inclinations.

A fellow hiker in our group gave up midway and she was a fit yogi, mind you. Evidently, stamina is not the only prerequisite – those who are afraid of darkness and heights will have to overcome their fears too.

#2 SACRFICING SLEEP IS MANDATORY

We left Ubud at 2.30am and commenced our climb at 4am. Those living in Uluwatu, Kuta or Sanur area would have to leave at 1.15am, 1.30am and 1.45am respectively. We suggest you have an early night (sleep in the evening) so that you are well rested for the exhausting trek.

#3 YOU WILL BE HIKING UP IN DARKNESS

You are climbing up an active volcano after all, so don’t expect lampposts to light up your pathway. There isn’t even a pathway to begin with… Bring along a handy torchlight with you just in case your tour guide runs out of torches.

#4 BE IN THE RIGHT ATTIRE

Don’t let Bali’s warm and humid climate fool you. Temperatures do dip during dawn so it is recommended that you bring along a light windbreaker. Do not overdress though – the key is to layer! You are bound to break into beads of perspiration, so we recommend wearing a tank top and a pair of long pants. It is best to cover up your legs in case you fall and scrap your knees.

Needless to say, for your own safety, please wear comfortable trekking or sports shoes. Any other footwear should not be considered.

#5 LOOK UP FOR A SKY FULL OF STARS

Walking endlessly for two hours in darkness is not only physically draining but mentally challenging too. Each time you are bored out of your wits or find yourself almost reaching the saturation point of exhaustion, look up and gaze at the countless number of twinkling stars! That should keep you going and will make the hike worth the while.

#6 WATCH YOUR FOOTING OR RISK FALLING

As you proceed further into the hike, you will realise that the ground gets looser and slopes get steeper. Do watch your footing as one wrong step could result in dire consequences. Falling while making your way down the steep and slippery slopes is actually common – yes, we fell.

#7 FOLLOW YOUR LOCAL GUIDE CLOSELY

The numerous operating tour groups can cause confusion when you arrive at the peak of Mount Batur. Follow your tour guide closely or you might lose him/her in the sea of people. The last thing you want to happen is to be stranded alone and struggle to find your way back, especially when there are multiple routes to descend.

#8 BEWARE OF THE WILD MONKEYS

Wild monkeys are aplenty and while they may look adorable, please refrain from provoking them. These creatures, however tiny, are actually very aggressive – some actually tried to attack the hikers who had bananas with them. Do take extra precaution if you’re carrying food.

#9 TAKE YOUR CAMERA WITH YOU

The view from up above is one so incredibly stunning and unbelievably gorgeous, and surely you would want some pictures for memory keepsake. But we’d say bring along a compact one that will not weigh you down.

For those who are on a journey to seek solace and to hideaway in peace and calmness, the luxury 5-star beach resorts in Nusa Dua will be your cup of tea.

Couples on honeymoon should check out romantic villas in Jimbaran – a sleepy seaside village known for the freshest seafood and gorgeous sunsets. Ubud, the heart and soul of the real Bali, remains a popular spot for visitors who are seeking spiritual enlightenment and cultural realisations.

JIMBARAN: THE TRADITIONAL HONEYMOON SPOT

With many romantic villas and resorts in the area, Jimbaran is traditionally a low key honeymoon spot. The luxurious and spacious oceanfront villas at Four Seasons Resort in Jimbaran Bay is the destination if you are looking for a little privacy, and to escape from the world. Another villa that we like is Kayumanis Private Villa & Spa. The property only has 18 private villas, which explains its meticulous and personalised hospitality and service.

Jimbaran is also one of the best vantage points to watch sunset in Bali. Rock Bar at AYANA Resort is popular as a destination for sunset cocktails.

This sleepy seaside village is synonymous with the most delicious and freshest seafood in Bali. For the best seafood in Jimbaran Bay, go to Menega Cafe. Indonesians and tourists go there for a seafood feast while enjoying the marvellous sunset.

Two of our favourite restaurants in Jimbaran are Cuca Flavours – for its delicious and playful cocktails, and bold and refreshing tapas using locally-sourced ingredients – and Balique, a beautiful vintage restaurant which serves a good balance of Indonesian food and western food.

KUTA: HEAVEN FOR BACKPACKERS AND BUDGET TRAVELLERS

Developed in the 1970s to 1980s as Bali’s prime tourism spot, Kuta has always been known for a heaven for backpackers and budget travellers. It is the most heavily developed area in Bali, with plenty of hostels, motels, bars, clubs, eateries and cheap massage parlours. As compared to Seminyak which has many upscale clubs and bars, Kuta is the centre of lower-end partying on the island.

In recent years, big hotel brands such as Sheraton Bali Kuta Resort, Pullman Hotel, and The Stones Collection have opened in the area, giving Kuta a face lift.

NUSA DUA: POSTER BOY FOR 5-STAR RESORTS AND BEAUTIFUL BEACHES

Promoted as the poster boy for Bali’s luxury 5-star resorts and beautiful beaches, Nusa Dua is where tourists flock to for a relaxing retreat. Besides being home to luxury hotels like The Mulia, St Regis, Westin, Conrad and Grand Hyatt, Nusa Dua also houses the main convention centre on the island. Nusa Dua boasts the most beautiful beaches in Bali. Bring on your most fashionable swimwear, frolic by the pool and get ready for a tan, we’d say!

Tanjong Benoa, a popular water-sports destination in Bali, is in the same area. Go there for a day of fun and enjoy snorkelling, para-sailing, and other water sports.

SEMINYAK: THE HIPPEST AREA IN BALI, WITH LOTS OF FANCY RESTAURANTS, BEACH CLUBS AND BARS

Seminyak is easily our favourite area in Bali. If this is your first time to Bali, and you are looking for a fun and vibrant place to chill out with your loved ones, Seminyak is the place to head to. Jalan Petitenget is the culinary epicentre of Bali, and food lovers will be thrilled with the numerous options in the area.

Jalan Laksmana, the main street in Seminyak, is littered with boutiques, restaurants, and random shops.

There is also no lack of trendy drinking spots. From Ku De Ta, to Woo Bar and Potato Head, some of the best beach clubs in Bali can be found in Seminyak.

Our favourite restaurants in Seminyak include Biku, Mama San, Merah Putih, Metis, Petitenget, Sardine, Ultimo, Sea Circus and Sarong.

If budget is not an issue, stay at the swanky W Retreat & Spa. Another good option is B Villa + Spa. Its 3-room villa is perfect for families and those who are travelling in a big group.

UBUD: THE ARTS AND CULTURAL CENTRE OF BALI

The arts & cultural centre of Bali, Ubud has since been put on the world map by Julia Robert’s movie ‘Eat, Pray, Love’. Paddy rice fields, white water rafting, Monkey Forest, and lots of arts & crafts shops are the main attractions in the area. There are two things that you must try in Ubud – the legendary ‘dirty duck’ and Balinese’s national dish, Babi Guling (Balinese suckling pig).

Warung Babi Guling Ibu Oka is a landmark in Bali, and it is known to serve one of the best, if not the best Babi Guling.

For the traditional Balinese deep-fried duck, Bebek Bengil – also known as the Dirty Duck Diner – rose to fame with its crispy dirty duck, and it is now a dining destination in Ubud. Another dirty duck place that you must try is Bebek Tepi Sawah Restaurant. It specialises in duck dishes, and it has a huge outdoor dining area with many pavilions perched atop paddy fields.
