I like to go to the Killiney area for food as it is within town, yet slightly off-the-track. Most of the restaurants there are usually not very crowded; you can easily walk in and get a table without making any reservation.

However, if you are thinking of going to Suanthai Restaurant after reading this review, make sure you call to reserve a table – the $19.9++ Thai Buffet is one of the most popular options in town, and they are always packed during mealtimes.

I didn’t get to try their buffet as I was there for a tasting, but I was told that the items for the buffet are from the ala carte menu (appetisers from $6-9; mains from $10-12; seafood from $13-28; and desserts from $3.5-7.5), except that they are done in smaller tasting portions.

We started with a simple Thai Green Mango Salad ($9.3), and Suanthai Boneless Stuffed Chicken Wing ($7 for 2 pcs). Both were good, but the deep-fried chicken wings were particularly outstanding with the sweet-and-spicy sauce.

The Tom Yam Goong ($12) was equally good. Hot and spicy, I was downing glasses of water after having it, but I didn’t care. The heat was so good!

For our mains, we had the famous Thai Green Curry with Chicken ($11.3), Pad Thai ($9.8), and Pineapple Rice with Chicken Floss ($9.8). A special mention has to go to the Pad Thai which almost tempted me to order a second portion.

The Steamed Seafood Platter ($28) was the highlight of our meal – it had contrasting flavours of sweet, sour, and spicy. Delicious.

For desserts, the signature Mango Sticky Rice ($5.8) was served, and it was a nice ending for our Thai feast.

To be completely honest, my initial impression of Suanthai Restaurant wasn’t good. I had always thought that it was one of those mediocre buffet restaurants, that explains why I never thought of trying it until the guys at Outlet recommended it to me.

If you don’t want to stuff yourself with too much food, order a few ala carte items to share. Otherwise, the Thai Buffet at Suanthai restaurant is one of the most value-for-money buffets in Singapore.

I had a great time in Seminyak, Bali. The restaurant scene is simply amazing – there are so many nice restaurants with stunning interiors and good food. We stayed in Ranadi Villa and the service was impeccable.
