While the main draw of POLLEN is the restaurant at level one that offers multi-course dining, the terrace bar on level two is equally worth visiting too. Unlike many open bars in Singapore where you will have to bear with the midday heat, the temperatures at POLLEN will always remain at a cool 20 degrees Celsius.

It is always a great time to have a tipple at POLLEN; the curated beverage menu comprises their signature cocktails, wines and beers from both international and local brands.

Have a starter to whet your appetite. POLLEN’s couscous, duck ham, date and pomegranate salad (S$19++) is a visual feast that is refreshing and palatable on the taste buds as well.

One of our favourites on the menu, the Saffron risotto with beef cheek (S$34++) came with a chunk of juicy beef cheek placed on a bed of creamy saffron risotto that reminds us of the Spanish paella. We would, however, recommend this only for the light eaters or for sharing with other mains as the serving size is not substantial.

POLLEN’s 1,000 Guineas Shorthorn Beef (Striploin – S$38++, Ribeye – S$48++) is a treat for the senses.

From the perfectly seared edges to the medium pinkish interior, this one is for all the meat lovers. Accompanied on the side is a serving of fluffy, buttery mashed potato and a grilled portobello mushroom.

Fancy yourself an accurate shot? There a few dart bars or dart joints, which open till late. We chanced upon Darts Culture at Cineleisure (it closes at 4am!) when we were thinking of places to head to after midnight, and this one didn’t disappoint. The dart machines are electronic, and definitely safe for everyone, including beginners.

Other places to try: i Darts Singapore (1am for weekdays and public holidays and 3am for weekends and eves of public holidays) and Forest Darts Café & Pub (2am).

#7 WALK IN THE PARK

For those seeking a tranquil environment not far from the city centre, you can take a leisurely stroll around the Gardens By The Bay (Bayfront Station, Exit B). The Gardens offers a verdant respite as you take in the plants and sights of the city amidst the cool night weather. While the conservatories and the Dome close earlier, the Bay South Outdoor Gardens open till 2am.

#8 LATE-NIGHT SHOPPING

Perfect for night owls and those who’re too busy to shop for their groceries in the day, Mustafa Centre (Farrer Park Station, Exit G) offers a myriad of items for sale. From fragrances to jewellery, everyday items such as shampoo, soap and produce (through its supermarket upstairs) are available as well.

#9 SECONDS? YES, PLEASE!

What’s a foodie to do in the middle of the night when most eateries are closed? Seek out the ones which aren’t (duh!). #8 GO ON A FREE TOUR AROUND SINGAPORE

The Singapore Footprints team will take you around the Singapore River and Bugis and Bras Basah area, enthralling you with tales of the yesteryears. The tour is run by a bunch of passionate students from the Nanyang Technological University’s Tourism and Hospitality Management Club; you can leave a donation if you enjoyed yourself so they can continue providing the service for free.

#9 GET OUT TO THE COUNTRYSIDE

It’s hard to fathom that we have a countryside, beyond the city skyscrapers, high-rise residential areas and industrial parks – so get out there and see it for yourself. The Kranji area is home to a wetland reserve, vegetable farms, fish farms and even a frog farm. A Kranji Countryside Express Bus service takes you from Kranji MRT station to several points of interests like Bollywood Veggies, Jurong Frog Farm and Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve (which has a free guided tour). If you are up for spending some money and want to take the experience up a notch, stay the night at D’Kranji Farm Resort. You shouldn’t expect city-slick amenities and 5-star service because then you’re missing the point. There are going to be bugs flying around – it is the countryside after all, people.

Go for a romantic Picnic

A romantic picnic is a wonderful way to spend a lazy day with your boyfriend/girlfriend, and best of all, it’s a romantic gesture which doesn’t have to cost a lot. You can pack sandwiches, and your partner’s favourite snacks.
