Located a few units down the road from Supernova is another new cafe, Bella People and Coffee which opened less than a week ago.

Taking over the space vacated by the now-defunct Little Ice Cream Kafe, Bella People and Coffee is a small and cosy cafe which serves a selection of breakfast dishes, pasta, sandwiches, burgers and coffee.

It is a comfortable space where you can enjoy a simple brunch and coffee with your friends.

For those of you who prefer sitting outdoor, Bella People and Coffee has two tables at the outdoor patio area.

It has a small and concise menu with prices ranging from S$18 to S$25 for a main course and some of the more interesting dishes include:

Le Matin Patisserie is opening a new full-fledged cafe at 77 Robinson Road by mid-April.

Helmed by Chef Mohamed Al-Matin who has previously worked at Noma, Restaurant Andre, Black Star Pastry, Zumbo, Le Matin Patisserie first started as an online pastry shop during Circuit Breaker, and it has also opened a physical shop at Raeburn Park.

We love their classic pastries such as Kouign Amann, Pain Au Chocolat and Brioche Feuilette.

Laminated with lots of butter, the Brioche Feuilette—a croissant-brioche hybrid—was truly outstanding with an extremely buttery and crispy pastry. The signature Kouign Amann was equally buttery, flaky and had subtle hints of vanilla.

Chocolate lovers will love the Pain Au Chocolat which was stuffed with Valrhona dark chocolate and came with a molten chocolatey center.

At Le Matin Patisserie’s new cafe, you can look forward to the full range of sweet and savoury pastries including croissants, Kouign Amann, tarts, eclairs, soft serve as well as speciality coffee.

And on top of that, Chef Matin will be introducing a new set of Breakfast Cakes—individually sized Petit Gateaux that resemble your favourite Breakfast dishes.

Fans of Le Matin Patisserie will be happy to know that they are also having a pop-up cafe at Paragon Orchard. They have taken over the cafe in Porcelain Origins and they are serving their classic pastries, bottled cold brews, seasonal kombuchas and pour-over coffee.

Established in 2016, The Ice Cream Bar is an ice cream shop in Malaysia that specialises in alcoholic ice cream flavours.

The Ice Cream Bar currently has three outlets in Malaysia at Hartamas, 1 Utama and Seapark, and the outpost in Singapore at 59 Kampong Bahru Road is their first outlet outside of Malaysia. It has officially opened its door to the public on 17 Sep 2021.

Other than the classic Rum & Raisin, The Ice Cream Bar offers a wide range of alcoholic flavours which include liquours, spirits, beers and wines.

Located just a few steps from Apartment Coffee, Glacier is a new minimalist botanical-themed cafe in Lavender.

The Lavender neighbourhood is home to many wonderful cafes and several new cafes have opened in the area recently including of Habitat Coffee, and Pacto by Parchmen.

Opened by the team behind Onalu—a bagel specialist at SMU—Glacier is an all-white cafe which offers the standard cafe fare, coffee and desserts.

Glacier’s menu is small and concise, with prices ranging from S$16 to S$24 for a main course. Some of the dishes that you can look forward to are:

Foreword Coffee Roasters is a coffee chain and social enterprise which serves speciality coffee from Asia, while training and hiring persons with disabilities and special needs in their coffee kiosks to spread more awareness and empower the differently-abled in Singapore.

Foreword Coffee Roasters has opened its 5th outlet at Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music in National University of Singapore (NUS). But before you make a trip there, do note that the gorgeous coffee shop is currently open to NUS staff and students only.

Foreword Coffee Roasters serves a myriad of coffee drinks and a few signature concoctions. In addition to these cuppas, they also offer rice bowls, waffles, pastries and cakes at the new outlet.

One of Foreword Coffee Roasters’s signature drinks is the Timeless Yuan Yang (S$6.50). A ristretto shot of their Yunnan Ouyang coffee blend with an Earl Grey tea ice ball blends perfectly with milk.

The first sip brought out the bright flavour of the Earl Grey instantly and as it faded on your tastebuds, the fruity yet bitter note of the Yunnan Ouyang Coffee could be tasted. It was an excellent modern rendition of the traditional Yuan Yang.

Foreword Coffee Roasters’s next signature drink, the 70% Dark Chocolate (S$6.50), was a delight to drink. This would be perfect for those who enjoy a milkier hot chocolate drink but want that rich chocolate aroma.

The new space is using upcycled furniture—made of milk bottles and caps—which are made by sustainability partners with different expertise that turn waste into gems.

To further reduce waiting time, self-collection at UTown is available for NUS staff and students now, throughout this Phase 2 (HA)! Collection timings are from 12pm – 2pm with a minimum order of S$20.

Local bakery, Edith Patisserie has opened a new cafe at 9 Penang Road (the former Park Mall building) in Dhoby Ghaut.

Edith Patisserie Cake Bar is a cosy space that will be offering a selection of Edith Patisserie’s signatures cakes, bakes, waffles, as well as coffee.

Established in 2013, Edith Patisserie is a local bakery specialising in layered cakes, brownies and tarts for special occasions such as birthdays and weddings.

Pâtisserie CLÉ is opening a second outlet at Lucky Heights neighbourhood near Siglap and Bedok.

First established as an online pâtisserie in 2018 by local pastry chefs Germaine Li and Joy Chiam, Pâtisserie CLÉ (clé is French for ‘key’) specialises in French cakes, tarts, and bakes.

The local brand opened its first physical space in Paya Lebar Office and the second outlet will be located in Lucky Heights neighbourhood where fans can get a range of tarts and
entremets as well as a new selection of viennoiseries.

The star highlights are unique creations that pay homage to the Lucky Heights neighbourhood and they include The Lucky Clover—a twist on puff pastry swirls with generous sprinkles of fragrant spring onion, garlic and bacon—and the Truffle Ziggy, a savoury bite filled with truffle cream, wild mushrooms, arugula, cherry tomatoes and feta cheese, which is inspired by the iconic zig-zag stairway in the Lucky Heights neighbourhood.

Pâtisserie CLÉ is perhaps best known for its Tart Gift Box with a choice of eight tarts and you have to try the signature Orh Blanc Tart which is an interesting fusion of the French Mont Blanc dessert and the local orh nee flavour.

Do note that Pâtisserie CLÉ Paya Lebar will be closed momentarily for renovations. It will be re-opened in April with a refreshed look.

Established in 2012 at Tanglin Post Office Building, Nassim Hill Bakery is best known for its brunch dishes and fresh bakes. The original outlet is a pet-friendly cafe and it is absolutely perfect for families looking to unwind over the weekend, if not, casual drinks at the bar with your mates.

Nassim Hill Bakery has opened a second outlet at the Killiney Post Office building, on Level 2 of KPO Café Bar.

The menu is a distilled version of the original Nassim Hill brunch menu. CAF Clickafood—a new cafe by Boat Noodles and popular singer, Ang Juyang—has an off-the-menu Crab Omelette Fried Rice at only S$10.90!

The new family-friendly cafe at 339 Upper Paya Lebar Road (near to Lorong Ah Soo) features 5 different menus including Korean, Local, Western, Thai cuisine and drinks at reasonable prices. It is also a cloud kitchen concept that delivers islandwide.

The Crab Omelette Fried Rice (S$10.90) is available for a limited time period only and you won’t find it on the a la carte menu. You just have to ask the staff for the special Crab Omelette Fried Rice when you are placing your order. Do note that this dish is only available for dine-in, and not takeaway.

The omelette comes with huge chunks of crab meat and it sits atop a bed of fried rice.

Most of the dishes on CAF Clickafood’s menu are affordably priced from S$8.90 onwards.

You also have to try CAF Clickafood’s Thai Omelette Bomb (S$8.90)! It is one of the best Thai Omelettes we’ve had in Singapore.

Prairie by Craftsmen is a new cafe & restaurant at Cluny Court near Botanic Gardens which has an outdoor alfresco dine-in concept, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Opened by Craftsmen Specialty Coffee, the new concept took over the former premise of Bar Bar Black Sheep at Cluny Court and they had a soft launch on 20 Jan 2021.

Prairie by Craftsmen has a rather extensive menu. There is a selection of breakfast options as well as pastas and mains including Duck Confit, Ribeye Steak and Fish & Chips.

If you are heading over to Prairie by Craftsmen in the afternoon, do note that the kitchen will be closed from 3pm to 5pm, with the last order for lunch at 2.30pm. In that period of time, drink, pastry and cake will still be available for order. Their dinner service will resume at 5pm.

Cupping Room Coffee Roasters is opening its first outlet in Singapore at Ngee Ann City.

One of the most established independent coffee shops in Hong Kong, Cupping Room Coffee Roasters is opened by the champion of the Hong Kong Barista Championship 2013.

Cupping Room Coffee Roasters Singapore is located on level two of Ngee Ann City, taking over the unit directly opposite Van Cleef & Arpels. The hoarding is already up and they will be officially opening to the public on 10 Oct 2020.

The space is conceptualised and designed by Brewin Design Office and it is inspired by the layers of coffee and milk mixing; nude tones weave between solid brown shades and are held together by concrete and stone elements.

The arrival of Cupping Room Coffee Roaster in Singapore is definitely great news for coffee lovers.

Run by the same guys behind the now-defunct Ronin and Punch at North Canal Road, Gather is their new concept at Raffles Hotel Arcade that opened its doors on the 1st of February.

Gather serves both sweet and savoury French crêpes, sandwiches, baked goods, coffee and other beverages. Being a treat loved by most, crêpes are no stranger to us, but what makes Gather stand out amongst the rest? Read on to find out!

Being situated in a British colonial designed building, Gather boasts an old-school charm. The simple interior and open concept was inviting and comfortable;  it is a cosy place to unwind and spend some private time.

They have a merchandise corner as well for those who might be interested in take-homes such as soap, fragrance oil and so on.

We had the Parma Ham (S$18) that came with Italian parma ham, Gruyère, cheddar and egg. It was absolutely delightful with a crispy outer layer and when layered and folded, it had a chewy and fluffy texture. The parma ham and cheeses paired well with the light batter, while the egg in the middle helped to reduce the saltiness.

You’d expect this combination to be too overwhelming with sodium that it might be cloyingly sick but we promise you, it isn’t.

You get to witness the skilful crêpe making process over the counter as they freshly prepare it upon ordering at their open-concept kitchen.

Currently, they have six types of savoury and three types of sweet crêpes on their menu. Main or dessert, up to you!

Breakfast is never complete without a cuppa. The White (S$5 for 5oz) had a nice froth and was fragrant, but no wow-factor from it nor a differentiating flavour from other coffee shops. Still, it is a decent cup of coffee for a casual caffeine fix.

The crêpe itself was enough to make us want to revisit this cafe again. Good ambience and great hospitality from the staff there! They were really cheerful, welcoming and polite, constantly making sure everything was of satisfaction and made appropriate recommendations.

Also, they are still in their soft launch period until the 5th of February where payment is by a tipping basis to pay-as-you-like. Give these guys a visit ASAP for some great food and vibes!

Lucid is a new addition to the cafes in Lavender that serves artisanal coffee and pastries in a comforting and cosy setting. If you’re on the hunt for a quiet place to work or a place for good conversations, Lucid will fit the bill perfectly.

Its quiet ambience and clean aesthetic completely won us over. Kickstart your day at this cafe which offers a quick caffeine fix for coffee junkies or sweet treats for dessert addicts. Good vibes guaranteed.

This minimalistic cafe with mainly grey cement tones had a modern industrial design that was aesthetically pleasing with beautiful natural lighting that entered the space. You’d definitely be able to capture some good pictures for the gram!

We do not need to travel to JB just for Hiap Joo Bakery anymore because Lucid’s Banana Bread (S$3.50) won our hearts with its dense and immense banana flavours. It had the right amount of sweetness along with slight notes of savouriness from the butter. Undoubtedly one of the best banana breads we’ve had so far.

They have other in-house bakes like brownies and cakes that are made fresh daily at the open-concept kitchen situated in the cafe as well.

Served in a cute glass, the Iced White (S$6) comes with two shots of espresso, cold milk and ice. An antidote for sunny days indeed, the coffee had a nutty aroma with a bitter profile, hitting the right spot when in search of a good cuppa.

This mellow cup of coffee made a good pair with the Banana Bread available amongst their bakes.

On a rainy day or not, a cup of hot Chocolate (S$5) will warm your soul and soothe your heart. Aromatic flavours of the semi-sweet cocoa layered our tongues concomitantly with the velvety and creamy consistency, we did not want to put the cup down. This is a perfect drink for those who are in search of caffeine-free options.

Though they offer a small menu, we will definitely be back to Lucid for their up to snuff drinks and pastries!

Hasten your footsteps and visit this cafe pronto because they are operating with a tipping-only system for their soft launch until 31 January 2020.
